  • Application doesn't exit with 0 threads

    We have a WinForms desktop application, which is heavily multithreaded. 3 threads run with Application.Run and a bunch of other background worker threads. Getting all the threads to shut down properly was kind of tricky, but I thought I finally got it right. But when we actually deployed the application, users started experiencing the application not exiting. There's a System.Threading.Mutex to prevent them from running the app multiple times, so they have to go into task manager and kill the old one before they can run it again. Every thread gets a Thread.Join before the main thread exits, and I added logging to each thread I spawn. According to the log, every single thread that starts also exits, and the main thread also exits. Even stranger, running SysInternals ProcessExplorer show all the threads disappear when the application exits. As in, there are 0 threads (managed or unmanaged), but the process is still running. I can't reproduce this on any developers computers or our test environment, and so far I've only seen it happen on Windows XP (not Vista or Windows 7 or any Windows Server). How can a process keep running with 0 threads?

  • iPhone OS: Tap status bar to scroll to top doesn't work after remove/add back

    Using this method to hide the status bar: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; When setting "hidden" back to NO, the tap-to-scroll-to-top (in UIWebView, UITableView, whatever) doesn't work any more, and requires a restart of the app to get the functionality back. Is this a bug (I filed a rdar anyhow) or have I missed a step? Should I perhaps expect this behavior since the statusBar "loses touch" somehow with the respective view?

    RFC1893 claims that status codes will come in the format below you can read more here. But our bounce management system is having a hard time parsing error status code from bounce messages. We are able to get the raw message, but depending on the email server the code will come in different places. Is there any rule on how to parse this type of messages to obtain better results. We are not looking for the 100% solution but at least 80%. This document defines a new set of status codes to report mail system conditions. These status codes are intended to be used for media and language independent status reporting. They are not intended for system specific diagnostics. The syntax of the new status codes is defined as: status-code = class "." subject "." detail class = "2"/"4"/"5" subject = 1*3digit detail = 1*3digit White-space characters and comments are NOT allowed within a status- code. Each numeric sub-code within the status-code MUST be expressed without leading zero digits. The quote above from the RFC tells one thing but then the text below from a leading tool on bounce management says something different, where I can get a good source of standard status codes: Return Code Description 0 UNDETERMINED - (ie. Recipient Reply) 10 HARD BOUNCE - (ie. User Unknown) 20 SOFT BOUNCE - General 21 SOFT BOUNCE - Dns Failure 22 SOFT BOUNCE - Mailbox Full 23 SOFT BOUNCE - Message Too Large 30 BOUNCE - NO EMAIL ADDRESS.   • chrome-like status bar in qt

    I'm not big on creating GUI's, and generally my philosophy is: I don't create them, or I make them as simple as possible (and convince myself that it's better for usability :) For my current project, I'm using Qt from Python (PyQt), and I want to start adding some GUI elements without cluttering the interface. My idea is to create these elements as sort of floating-shaped-widgets that only appear when necessary; pretty much like the status bar (and find bar) in chrome. Is there any standard api that enables creating this kind of interface?

  • C# Desktop Application "Encounters an error and has to exit" on first run of the day

    Hello, It seems I tend to attract strange issues. This time, I have written a C# application, and handled most of the exceptions I can find. The problem is, when I run the installed/bundled version on any PC for the first time in a day (after the PC has been shut down and started after a while) it comes across some error and has to shutdown the application (even though the try-catch block surrounding the Main() does not fire). The application does not throw the same error on subsequent runs. I added an #if(!DEBUG) ... #else ... #endif surrounding the Main() code. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

  • exec() in BeanShell macro causes jEdit to hang when it returns non-zero exit code

    I have a jEdit BeanShell macro that runs my Markdown files through Maruku when I save them: if (buffer.getMode().toString().equals("markdown")) { cmd = "C:\\Ruby\\bin\\maruku.bat -o " + buffer.getDirectory() + buffer.getName().replaceAll("markdown$", "html") + " " + buffer.getPath(); exec(cmd); } This works great when the Markdown file is valid. But if I've made a mistake, jEdit just waits around forever for the exec() call to "succeed," which it never will.     I just switched from Eclipse to NetBeans IDE 6.8 for my PHP/Ajax development. Eclipse always showed a little hard disk symbol over the file icon for files that were in sync with the svn repository, and an asterisk for files with changes that have not been committed. Is there a way to see the commit status in NetBeans? If not, what is your preferred way of recognizing which files to commit?
