  • How can I access IEnumerable<T> extension methods on my custom subclass of BindingList<T>?

    - by Dan
I have a custom subclass of BindingList<T> that I want to execute a LINQ query over using the handy extension methods. For example: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return list.Sum(x => x.Value); } But the compiler complains that it can't resolve Sum because it doesn't recognize list as an IEnumerable<T>, which it obviously is, because this works: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return ((IEnumerable<T>)list).Sum(x => x.Value); } Anyone have a clever way I can avoid the ugly and unecessary cast?

  • Parallelism in .NET – Part 8, PLINQ’s ForAll Method

    - by Reed
Parallel LINQ extends LINQ to Objects, and is typically very similar.  However, as I previously discussed, there are some differences.  Although the standard way to handle simple Data Parellelism is via Parallel.ForEach, it’s possible to do the same thing via PLINQ. PLINQ adds a new method unavailable in standard LINQ which provides new functionality… LINQ is designed to provide a much simpler way of handling querying, including filtering, ordering, grouping, and many other benefits.  Reading the description in LINQ to Objects on MSDN, it becomes clear that the thinking behind LINQ deals with retrieval of data.  LINQ works by adding a functional programming style on top of .NET, allowing us to express filters in terms of predicate functions, for example. PLINQ is, generally, very similar.  Typically, when using PLINQ, we write declarative statements to filter a dataset or perform an aggregation.  However, PLINQ adds one new method, which provides a very different purpose: ForAll. The ForAll method is defined on ParallelEnumerable, and will work upon any ParallelQuery<T>.  Unlike the sequence operators in LINQ and PLINQ, ForAll is intended to cause side effects.  It does not filter a collection, but rather invokes an action on each element of the collection. At first glance, this seems like a bad idea.  For example, Eric Lippert clearly explained two philosophical objections to providing an IEnumerable<T>.ForEach extension method, one of which still applies when parallelized.  The sole purpose of this method is to cause side effects, and as such, I agree that the ForAll method “violates the functional programming principles that all the other sequence operators are based upon”, in exactly the same manner an IEnumerable<T>.ForEach extension method would violate these principles.  Eric Lippert’s second reason for disliking a ForEach extension method does not necessarily apply to ForAll – replacing ForAll with a call to Parallel.ForEach has the same closure semantics, so there is no loss there. Although ForAll may have philosophical issues, there is a pragmatic reason to include this method.  Without ForAll, we would take a fairly serious performance hit in many situations.  Often, we need to perform some filtering or grouping, then perform an action using the results of our filter.  Using a standard foreach statement to perform our action would avoid this philosophical issue: // Filter our collection var filteredItems = collection.AsParallel().Where( i => i.SomePredicate() ); // Now perform an action foreach (var item in filteredItems) { // These will now run serially item.DoSomething(); } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } This would cause a loss in performance, since we lose any parallelism in place, and cause all of our actions to be run serially. We could easily use a Parallel.ForEach instead, which adds parallelism to the actions: // Filter our collection var filteredItems = collection.AsParallel().Where( i => i.SomePredicate() ); // Now perform an action once the filter completes Parallel.ForEach(filteredItems, item => { // These will now run in parallel item.DoSomething(); }); This is a noticeable improvement, since both our filtering and our actions run parallelized.  However, there is still a large bottleneck in place here.  The problem lies with my comment “perform an action once the filter completes”.  Here, we’re parallelizing the filter, then collecting all of the results, blocking until the filter completes.  Once the filtering of every element is completed, we then repartition the results of the filter, reschedule into multiple threads, and perform the action on each element.  By moving this into two separate statements, we potentially double our parallelization overhead, since we’re forcing the work to be partitioned and scheduled twice as many times. This is where the pragmatism comes into play.  By violating our functional principles, we gain the ability to avoid the overhead and cost of rescheduling the work: // Perform an action on the results of our filter collection .AsParallel() .Where( i => i.SomePredicate() ) .ForAll( i => i.DoSomething() ); The ability to avoid the scheduling overhead is a compelling reason to use ForAll.  This really goes back to one of the key points I discussed in data parallelism: Partition your problem in a way to place the most work possible into each task.  Here, this means leaving the statement attached to the expression, even though it causes side effects and is not standard usage for LINQ. This leads to my one guideline for using ForAll: The ForAll extension method should only be used to process the results of a parallel query, as returned by a PLINQ expression. Any other usage scenario should use Parallel.ForEach, instead.

  • One method with many behaviours or many methods

    - by Krowar
This question is quite general and not related to a specific language, but more to coding best practices. Recently, I've been developing a feature for my app that is requested in many cases with slightly different behaviours. This function send emails , but to different receivers, or with different texts according to the parameters. The method signature is something like public static sendMail (t_message message = null , t_user receiver = null , stream attachedPiece = null) And then there are many condition inside the method, like if(attachedPiece != null) { } I've made the choice to do it this way (with a single method) because it prevents me to rewrite the (nearly) same method 10 times, but I'm not sure that it's a good practice. What should I have done? Write 10 sendMail method with different parameters? Are there obvious pros and cons for these different ways of programming? Thanks a lot.

  • Is there a better way to create a generic convert string to enum method or enum extension?

    - by Kelsey
I have the following methods in an enum helper class (I have simplified it for the purpose of the question): static class EnumHelper { public enum EnumType1 : int { Unknown = 0, Yes = 1, No = 2 } public enum EnumType2 : int { Unknown = 0, Dog = 1, Cat = 2, Bird = 3 } public enum EnumType3 : int { Unknown = 0, iPhone = 1, Andriod = 2, WindowsPhone7 = 3, Palm = 4 } public static EnumType1 ConvertToEnumType1(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType1.Unknown : (EnumType1)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType1), value, true)); } public static EnumType2 ConvertToEnumType2(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType2.Unknown : (EnumType2)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType2), value, true)); } public static EnumType3 ConvertToEnumType3(string value) { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) ? EnumType3.Unknown : (EnumType3)(Enum.Parse(typeof(EnumType3), value, true)); } } So the question here is, can I trim this down to an Enum extension method or maybe some type of single method that can handle any type. I have found some examples to do so with basic enums but the difference in my example is all the enums have the Unknown item that I need returned if the string is null or empty (if no match is found I want it to fail). Looking for something like the following maybe: EnumType1 value = EnumType1.Convert("Yes"); // or EnumType1 value = EnumHelper.Convert(EnumType1, "Yes"); One function to do it all... how to handle the Unknown element is the part that I am hung up on.

  • chrome extension: get specific part of the current tab page in DOM object and display it in either popup.html or new html page?

    - by sandeep
IS there any way so that i can convert any DOM object into HTML page within the script ? suppose I have dom object like this: content script.js chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) { if (request.method == "fromPopup") { console.log("got Request from Popup"); var myDivObj = document.getElementById("definition"); //sendResponse({data: "from Content Script to Popup"}); if ( myDivObj ) { sendResponse({data:myDivObj}); } else{ sendResponse({data:"Empty or No Tag"}); } console.log("sent Response1"); } else { sendResponse({}); // snub them. console.log("sent Response2"); } }); here is my popup.html <body> <Div>Searching..</Div> <Div id="output">Response??</Div> <script> console.log("Pop UP Clicked"); chrome.tabs.getSelected(null, function(tab) { chrome.tabs.sendRequest(tab.id, {method: "fromPopup", tabid: tab.id}, function(response) { console.log("got Response from Content Script"); document.getElementById("output").innerHTML=response.data; }); }); </script> </body> I know we can send onaly JSON type of data to the popup.html page.. am i right ? If yes is ther any way that I can creat HTML page with DOM Object( myDivObj ) which I collected.. Any alternative solution..? In short i want get only specific part of the current tab page in DOM object and display it in either popup.html or separate html page..

  • If I cast an IQueryable as an IEnumerable then call a Linq extension method, which implementation gets called?

    - by James Morcom
Considering the following code: IQueryable<T> queryable; // something to instantiate queryable var enumerable = (IEnumerable<T>) queryable; var filtered = enumerable.Where(i => i > 3); In the final line, which extension method gets called? Is it IEnumerable<T>.Where(...)? Or will IQueryable<T>.Where(...) be called because the actual implementation is still obviously a queryable? Presumably the ideal would be for the IQueryable version to be called, in the same way that normal polymorphism will always use the more specific override. In Visual Studio though when I right-click on the Where method and "Go to Definition" I'm taken to the IEnumerable version, which kind of makes sense from a visual point-of-view. My main concern is that if somewhere in my app I use Linq to NHibernate to get a Queryable, but I pass it around using an interface that uses the more general IEnumerable signature, I'll lose the wonders of deferred database execution!

  • Hiding an item conditionally through SPEL in OAF ( VO Extension + Personalization )

    - by Manoj Madhusoodanan
In this blog I will explain how to conditionally set property of an item through personalization.Let me discuss using a business scenario. My customer wants to make Hold from Payment/ All Invoices column readonly when the Operating Unit is UK ( Configured in a lookup XXCUST_EXCLUDED_ORGS ). Analysis First thing is we have to find out the page and business components. Page: /oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/QuickUpdatePGView Object: oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.SitesVO Solution Download oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.SitesVO from $JAVA_TOP to JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects.Make sure the transfer mode of the file (See below table). Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} File Type Transfer Mode .xml ASCII .class Binary .tar Binary .java ASCII  Since there is no VO attribute available to determine the Site Org against the lookup Org we have to add the logic inside a custom VO attribute. So VO extension is required in this scenario. Add an attribute "isPymtReadOnlyStr" in the existing query. This column returns 'Y' if there is a match in the lookup otherwise 'N'. Create a transient attribute "isPymtReadOnly" of type BOOLEAN.This will return TRUE if "isPymtReadOnlyStr" is "Y" otherwise FALSE. The reason behind adding the "isPymtReadOnly" is we are setting the item property as readonly through SPEL.It will recognize only BOOLEAN.But SQL query doesn't support BOOLEAN.So we are building a BOOLEAN attribute from the SQL which will use in the personalization layer to set the item property. Steps 1) Create a new VO xxcust.oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.XXCUSTSitesVO which extends from oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.SitesVO. Make sure the binding style should be same as SitesVO. Create the XXCUSTSitesVO which same query of SitesVO.Later we will add the new attribute to XXCUSTSitesVO. At this point of time all the existing VO attributes are of Updatable property as "Always". Press Finish without creating XXCUSTSitesVORowImpl.java 2) Select the XXCUSTSitesVO from JDeveloper Application Navigator. Modify the query and add the extra column. 3) Create a new transient attribute as follows. 4) Once you modify the query all the existing attributes Updatable property will change to Never. So revert that property back to orginal. 5) Create XXCUSTSitesVORowImpl.java by checking the following check box. 6) Add the following code snippet in XXCUSTSitesVORowImpl.java 7) Create the substitution for SitesVO as follows. Following entry will get created in current jpx file.    <Substitutes>      <Substitute OldName ="oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.SitesVO" NewName ="xxcust.oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.XXCUSTSitesVO" />   </Substitutes> 8) Migrate XXCUSTSitesVOImpl.java,XXCUSTSitesVORowImpl.java and XXCUSTSitesVO.xml from desktop to actual instance. 9) Migrate the substitution using jpximporter. 10) Restart the server and verify the substitution has done perfectly. 11) Go to /oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/QuickUpdatePG and personalize the page.Set the item read only property to ${oa.SitesVO.IsPymtReadOnly} 12) Click on Apply and in next page click on Return to Application. Verify your output.  Note: You can remove the substitution using following script. Please click here.

  • Creating extendible applications with MEF

    - by Visual WebGui
Ever wanted to create an application that is easy to maintain and even more easy to extend? Then the following piece by Michael Hensen about Microsoft Extension Framework (MEF) could be a solution for your needs! With MEF, which is part of VS2010 own extensions platform, you can write parts of an application is an enclosed dll. This way you can build up your application the normal way and based on the requirements of a client you can add or remove functions as easy as removing a dll from the base...(read more)

  • Nautilus and file command in 11.04 don't show metadata for WebM files

    - by Pili
The file-name extension .webm is used for media files using the WebM multimedia format, which consists of the WebM container (a subset of the Matroska container) and audio and video streams with independet enconding and quality settings. Description of the issue: For files in the WebM format, the program file says that files are raw data, instead of determining and displaying the real file-format, which is WebM. Besides, Nautilus doesn't display the technical metadata of files in this format. Why is the file program not displaying the file format for WebM files?

  • extension methods with generics - when does caller need to include type parameters?

    - by Greg
    Hi, Is there a rule for knowing when one has to pass the generic type parameters in the client code when calling an extension method? So for example in the Program class why can I (a) not pass type parameters for top.AddNode(node), but where as later for the (b) top.AddRelationship line I have to pass them? class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { // Create Graph var top = new TopologyImp<string>(); // Add Node var node = new StringNode(); node.Name = "asdf"; var node2 = new StringNode(); node2.Name = "test child"; top.AddNode(node); top.AddNode(node2); top.AddRelationship<string, RelationshipsImp>(node,node2); // *** HERE *** } } public static class TopologyExtns { public static void AddNode<T>(this ITopology<T> topIf, INode<T> node) { topIf.Nodes.Add(node.Key, node); } public static INode<T> FindNode<T>(this ITopology<T> topIf, T searchKey) { return topIf.Nodes[searchKey]; } public static void AddRelationship<T,R>(this ITopology<T> topIf, INode<T> parentNode, INode<T> childNode) where R : IRelationship<T>, new() { var rel = new R(); rel.Child = childNode; rel.Parent = parentNode; } } public class TopologyImp<T> : ITopology<T> { public Dictionary<T, INode<T>> Nodes { get; set; } public TopologyImp() { Nodes = new Dictionary<T, INode<T>>(); } }

  • What is the easiest way to get the property value from a passed lambda expression in an extension me

    - by Andrew Siemer
I am writing a dirty little extension method for HtmlHelper so that I can say something like HtmlHelper.WysiwygFor(lambda) and display the CKEditor. I have this working currently but it seems a bit more cumbersome than I would prefer. I am hoping that there is a more straight forward way of doing this. Here is what I have so far. public static MvcHtmlString WysiwygFor<TModel, TProperty>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> helper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression) { return MvcHtmlString.Create(string.Concat("<textarea class=\"ckeditor\" cols=\"80\" id=\"", expression.MemberName(), "\" name=\"editor1\" rows=\"10\">", GetValue(helper, expression), "</textarea>")); } private static string GetValue<TModel, TProperty>(HtmlHelper<TModel> helper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression) { MemberExpression body = (MemberExpression)expression.Body; string propertyName = body.Member.Name; TModel model = helper.ViewData.Model; string value = typeof(TModel).GetProperty(propertyName).GetValue(model, null).ToString(); return value; } private static string MemberName<T, V>(this Expression<Func<T, V>> expression) { var memberExpression = expression.Body as MemberExpression; if (memberExpression == null) throw new InvalidOperationException("Expression must be a member expression"); return memberExpression.Member.Name; } Thanks!

  • OSX: Selecting default application for all unknown and different file types (extensions)

    - by Leo
I work in cluster computing and am using Mac OS X 10.6. I send off hundreds of computing jobs a day, and each one comes back with with a different extension. For example, svmGeneSelect.o12345 which is the std output of my svmGeneSelect job which is job number 12345. I don't control the extensions. All files are plain text. I want OSX to open any file extension that it hasn't seen before with my favorite text editor when I click on it. Or even better set up file association defaults for extension patterns ie textEdit for extensions matching *.o*. I do NOT want to create file associations for individual files since this extension will only ever exist once, and I do not want to go through the process of selecting the application to use for each file. Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Shell extension installation not recognized by Windows 7 64-bit shell

    - by Avalanchis
I have a Copy Hook Handler shell extension that I'm trying to install on Windows 7 64-bit. The shell extension DLL is compiled in two separate versions for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. The DLL implements DLLRegisterServer which adds the necessary registry entries. After adding the registry entries, it calls the following line of code to nofity the Windows shell: SHChangeNotify(SHCNE_ASSOCCHANGED, SHCNF_IDLIST, NULL, NULL); Everything works great on Windows7 32-bit. The shell recognizes the extension immediately. On 64-bit, the shell extension is only recognized after the shell is restarted. Is there anything I can do to cause the extension to be recognized without restarting the 64-bit shell?

  • templated method on T inside a templated class on TT : Is that possible/correct.

    - by paercebal
I have a class MyClass which is templated on typename T. But inside, I want a method which is templated on another type TT (which is unrelated to T). After reading/tinkering, I found the following notation: template <typename T> class MyClass { public : template<typename TT> void MyMethod(const TT & param) ; } ; For stylistic reasons (I like to have my templated class declaration in one header file, and the method definitions in another header file), I won't define the method inside the class declaration. So, I have to write it as: template <typename T> // this is the type of the class template <typename TT> // this is the type of the method void MyClass<T>::MyMethod(const TT & param) { // etc. } I knew I had to "declare" the typenames used in the method, but didn't know how exactly, and found through trials and errors. The code above compiles on Visual C++ 2008, but: Is this the correct way to have a method templated on TT inside a class templated on T? As a bonus: Are there hidden problems/surprises/constraints behind this kind of code? (I guess the specializations can be quite amusing to write)

  • Enumerable Interleave Extension Method

    - by João Angelo
A recent stackoverflow question, which I didn’t bookmark and now I’m unable to find, inspired me to implement an extension method for Enumerable that allows to insert a constant element between each pair of elements in a sequence. Kind of what String.Join does for strings, but maintaining an enumerable as the return value. Having done the single element part I got a bit carried away and ended up expanding it adding overloads to support interleaving elements of another sequence and support for a predicate to control when interleaving takes place. I have to confess that I did this for fun and now I can’t think of any real usage scenario, nonetheless, it may prove useful for someone. First a simple example: var target = new string[] { "(", ")", "(", ")" }; var result = target.Interleave(".", (f, s) => f == "("); // Prints: (.)(.) Console.WriteLine(String.Join(string.Empty, result)); And now the untested but documented implementation: using System; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; public static class EnumerableExtensions { /// <summary> /// Iterates infinitely over a constant element. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="T"> /// The type of element in the sequence. /// </typeparam> private class InfiniteSequence<T> : IEnumerable<T>, IEnumerator<T> { public InfiniteSequence(T element) { this.Element = element; } public T Element { get; private set; } public IEnumerator<T> GetEnumerator() { return this; } IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator() { return this; } T IEnumerator<T>.Current { get { return this.Element; } } void IDisposable.Dispose() { } object IEnumerator.Current { get { return this.Element; } } bool IEnumerator.MoveNext() { return true; } void IEnumerator.Reset() { } } /// <summary> /// Interleaves the specified <paramref name="element"/> between each pair of elements in the <paramref name="target"/> sequence. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="T"> /// The type of elements in the sequence. /// </typeparam> /// <param name="target"> /// The target sequence to be interleaved. /// </param> /// <param name="element"> /// The element used to perform the interleave operation. /// </param> /// <exception cref="ArgumentNullException"> /// <paramref name="target"/> or <paramref name="element"/> is a null reference. /// </exception> /// <returns> /// The <paramref name="target"/> sequence interleaved with the specified <paramref name="element"/>. /// </returns> public static IEnumerable<T> Interleave<T>( this IEnumerable<T> target, T element) { if (target == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("target"); • Trying to install pdo_oci via PECL fails asking for PDO extension

    - by Igoru
I'm using Linux Mint 11 (based on Ubuntu 11.04) and I need to use PHP with Oracle through PDO, a requirement of the framework we will work with. I've installed various PDO extensions using the normal apt-get method, like php5-mysql, etc, and they loaded just fine, along with the initial PDO extension. But there's no package for Oracle bindings. So, when I try to run sudo pecl install pdo_oci it throws me this: WARNING: "pear/PDO_OCI" is deprecated in favor of "channel://http://www.php.net/pdo_oci/ext/pdo_oci" pear/PDO_OCI requires PHP extension "pdo" (version >= 1.0) No valid packages found install failed How can I add this channel, or is there a better way to install the PDO_OCI extension?

  • Find and hide file extension

    - by Daveo
I am trying to find all files that have the same filename (excluding the file extension) that occur 3 times. I also need the full path to the file. What I have currently is #get file without extension alias lse="ls -1R | sed -e 's/\.[a-zA-Z]*$//'" #print out the current dir and get files occuring 3 times lse | sed "s;^;`pwd`/;" | sort | uniq -c | grep " 3 " This runs howver pwd prints the folder I ran the command from not the path to the file. So I tried find find . -type f | sed "s#^.#$(pwd)#" | sort | uniq -c This runs but includes the file extension. When I try to add sed -e 's/\.[a-zA-Z]*$//'" I get errors as I am not sure how to combine the two sed commands and I cannot seem to pipe a second time to sed? so what I am trying to do is find . -type f | sed "s#^.#$(pwd)#" | sed -e 's/\.[a-zA-Z]*$//'"| sort | uniq -c | grep " 3 " but this does not run.

  • Installing Wordpress - constant PHP/MySQL extension appears missing

    - by Driss Zouak
I've got Win2003 w/IIS6, PHP 5 and MySQL installed. I can confirm PHP is installed correctly because I have a testMe.php that runs properly. When I run the Wordpress setup, I get informed that Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. But in my PHP.ini in the DYNAMIC EXTENSIONS section I have extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll I verified that mysql.dll and libmysql.dll are both in my PHP directory. I copied my libmysql.dll to the C:\Windows\System32 directory. When I try to run the initial setup for WordPress, I get this answer. I've Googled setting this up, and everything comes down to the above. I'm missing something, but none of the instructions that I've found online seem to cover whatever that is.

  • How can I return an object into PHP userspace from my extension?

    - by John Factorial
    I have a C++ object, Graph, which contains a property named cat of type Category. I'm exposing the Graph object to PHP in an extension I'm writing in C++. As long as the Graph's methods return primitives like boolean or long, I can use the Zend RETURN_*() macros (e.g. RETURN_TRUE(); or RETURN_LONG(123);. But how can I make Graph-getCategory(); return a Category object for the PHP code to manipulate? I'm following the tutorial over at http://devzone.zend.com/article/4486, and here's the Graph code I have so far: #include "php_getgraph.h" zend_object_handlers graph_object_handlers; struct graph_object { zend_object std; Graph *graph; }; zend_class_entry *graph_ce; #define PHP_CLASSNAME "WFGraph" ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_one_arg, 0, 0, 1) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_two_args, 0, 0, 2) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() void graph_free_storage(void *object TSRMLS_DC) { graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)object; delete obj-graph; zend_hash_destroy(obj-std.properties); FREE_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); efree(obj); } zend_object_value graph_create_handler(zend_class_entry *type TSRMLS_DC) { zval *tmp; zend_object_value retval; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)emalloc(sizeof(graph_object)); memset(obj, 0, sizeof(graph_object)); obj-std.ce = type; ALLOC_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); zend_hash_init(obj-std.properties, 0, NULL, ZVAL_PTR_DTOR, 0); zend_hash_copy(obj-std.properties, &type-default_properties, (copy_ctor_func_t)zval_add_ref, (void*)&tmp, sizeof(zval*)); retval.handle = zend_objects_store_put(obj, NULL, graph_free_storage, NULL TSRMLS_CC); retval.handlers = &graph_object_handlers; return retval; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, __construct) { char *perspectives; int perspectives_len; Graph *graph = NULL; zval *object = getThis(); if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "s", &perspectives, &perspectives_len) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } graph = new Graph(perspectives); graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(object TSRMLS_CC); obj-graph = graph; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, hasCategory) { long perspectiveId; Graph *graph; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(getThis() TSRMLS_CC); graph = obj-graph; if (graph == NULL) { RETURN_NULL(); } if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "l", &perspectiveId) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } RETURN_BOOL(graph-hasCategory(perspectiveId)); } PHP_METHOD(Graph, getCategory) { // what to do here?   • Need help profiling .NET caching extension method.

    - by rockinthesixstring
I've got the following extension Public Module CacheExtensions Sub New() End Sub Private sync As New Object() Public Const DefaultCacheExpiration As Integer = 1200 ''# 20 minutes <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal generator As Func(Of T)) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, If(generator IsNot Nothing, generator(), Nothing), DefaultCacheExpiration) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal generator As Func(Of T), ByVal expireInSeconds As Double) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, If(generator IsNot Nothing, generator(), Nothing), expireInSeconds) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal obj As T) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, obj, DefaultCacheExpiration) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal obj As T, ByVal expireInSeconds As Double) As T Dim result = cache(key) If result Is Nothing Then SyncLock sync If result Is Nothing Then result = If(obj IsNot Nothing, obj, Nothing) cache.Insert(key, result, Nothing, DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(expireInSeconds), cache.NoSlidingExpiration) End If End SyncLock End If Return DirectCast(result, T) End Function End Module From here, I'm using the extension is a TagService to get a list of tags Public Function GetTagNames() As List(Of String) Implements Domain.ITagService.GetTags ''# We're not using a dynamic Cache key because the list of TagNames ''# will persist across all users in all regions. Return HttpRuntime.Cache.GetOrStore(Of List(Of String))("TagNamesOnly", Function() _TagRepository.Read().Select(Function(t) t.Name).OrderBy(Function(t) t).ToList()) End Function All of this is pretty much straight forward except when I put a breakpoint on _TagRepository.Read(). The problem is that it is getting called on every request, when I thought that it is only to be called when Result Is Nothing Am I missing something here?
