• Unable to Access Localhost after starting Xampp

  OS: Windows XP Professional, SP 2. Few days back i had xampplite 1.7.1 installed and was able to access localhost and phpmyadmin through browser...... Today it suddenly stopped working. In firefox after i type http://localhost/ nothing happens, just blank white screen. I removed all the files in xampplite folders and re-installed ver 1.7.1 again, it's of no use. Then i installed xampplite 1.7.2 (latest), which i had downloaded from xampp website, again it's of no use. Apache and MySql are running though. I tried using locally installing wordpress, as i have a theme ready and want to convert that design to wordpress, test it and start using it online. • How-To Configure Weblogic, Agile PLM and an F5 LTM

  Agile, Weblogic, and an F5 walk into a bar ... I've got this Agile PLM v 9.3 Running on WebLogic, two managed servers. An F5 BigIP LTM. We're upgrading from Agile v 9.2.1.4 running on OAS. The problem is that while the Windows client works fine the Java client does not. My setup is identical to one outlined in F5's doc: http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/bea-bigip45-dg.pdf When I launch the java client it returns this error "Server is not valid or is unavailable." Oracle claims Agile PLM is setup correctly, but won't comment on the specifics of the load balancer. F5 reports the configuration is correct but can't comment on the specifics of the application. I am merely the guy in a vortex of finger-pointing who wants my application to work. It's that or give up on WLS and move back to OAS. Which has it's own problems but at least we know how it works. Any ideas?

  I get a blue screen of death in my windows 98 machine every time I boot it. I can't reach to my desktop. The error is like this: A fatal exception 0E occured at 0028:C003CC2F in VxD IOS(01) + 0000156B This was called from 0028:C0082E60 in VxD VKD(01) + 000001D0 I have to then give it a three finger salute to restart the system. There is no other way to shut down the system at this point except pressing the CPU power button. What could be the problem? • Openldap, groups, admin groups, etc

  We have a samba server as PDC with OpenLDAP. So far everything is working, even windows 7 can log on to the Domain. Here is the tricky part. We have many departments, each department has it's own IT guys, and these IT guy should be able to create users in their department and change any info of the users in their department. My Idea was to create 2 groups for each department, For example: Department1 and Admins Department1. I dont want the Departments Admins to be Domain Admins because they have power over all the users, unless I am mistaken. I also have trouble with the ACLs. I was trying to create an acl for members of this Admins group, I was trying with this search, but didnt work ldapsearch -x "(&(objectClass=organizationalPerson)(member=cn=Admins Department1,ou=Group,dc=mydomain,dc=com,dc=ec))" I am open to suggestions.

• HTML tabindex: Put some links last without complete enumeration

  I know I can use the HTML anchor attribute tabindex to set the tabindex of links, i.e., in what order they get focused when the user hits Tab (or Shift-Tab). But, I have a home page with tons of links, and to enumerate all those is a lot of work. The actual case is, I have four image links that by default gets index 1, 2, 3, and 4 (well, the behavior is equivalent, at least). But, I'd much rather have the first non-image link as number 1. Check it out here and you'll understand immediately. I tried to give the first non-image link (the link I desire to have tabindex 1) - I tried to give it tabindex 1 explicitly, hoping that it would cascade from there, but it didn't (i.e., the first image link got implicit tabindex 2). I also tried to give the image links ridiculously high tabindexes, but that didn't work: as the other links didn't have tabindexes at all, those highs were still "first". As a last resort (the solution currently employed) I gave the image links all tabindex -1. That makes for logical tabbing, but, it is suboptimal, as those image links are excluded from the tab loop - a user tabbing away will probably never realize that the images are clickable. I'd like them to be reachable with tabbing, but last, after all the ordinary links. If you wonder why I'm so determined to achieve this, it has to do with my own finger habits: I almost exclusively search for links, tab back, tab forth, etc., and very seldom using the mouse. Note: I'll accept a script to change the actual HTML for a complete enumeration, if you convince me there is no "set" way to solve this problem.

• Netbook thinks it is a desktop

  Question: Are, and if so what, there packages for download that I can get netbook to understand it is not a desktop and that it is a netbook. Info: I'm running an Acer Aspire One with ubuntu desktop 9.10. I tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix first but it has graphics issues with the aspire one. So I changed to Ubuntu Desktop. It was the only distro (after debian, centOS, Fedora, and Knoppix all failed me) that I managed to get working. The only thing is that it is having issues doing things that a netbook/laptop should be doing. most notably is that it will run it's battery dead if I close the screen and throw it into my back pack. It seems to just stay fully on and runs it's self to death. also it will lock up some times if I close the screen and come back to it 10 or 20 minutes later. It also won't retain volume settings when I reboot, as well as screen brightness. and just a couple of other things that I can't quite put my finger on, but just seem amiss. like I said, Essentially my netbook thinks it is a desktop, how can I fix this? ~N

• Malware Defense Shows Up in PlayOn Settings/Logs Although System Has Been Thoroughly Cleaned

  I was hit really hard by some nasty malware: Malware Defense. I was doing something I should not have been doing when I got it (surfing Pirate Bay for TV shows). It locked up my system and I had to reboot in safe mode. I was able to shut down the process and remove it using a malware killer tool. I then installed, after my machine was cleaned up a bit, Clamwin, Malwarebytes, and another AV tool. I cleaned the heck out of my system. Simultaneously, while this was going on, I was having trouble with my media-server, PlayOn. This tool is great, but has some bugs. One in particular is that it will not function well with AV software running. I found a way to allow the new AV software to run while using PlayOn, but it still says I have Malware Defense on. Firstly, Malware Defense is long gone. I cleaned all remnants from my registry and scoured my system with the above tools multiple times. PlayOn is getting some information that I have this crap installed on my system, but it's not. The system runs OK, but not optimally. I have a feeling it is causing my streaming to be interrupted sometimes. How is it that I can't even find Malware Defense on my system if I tried but yet somehow PlayOn is getting a finger print of it somewhere? I have gone back and forth with MediaMall to no avail. I kind of just gave up, because the streaming works OK. BTW, I also uninstalled/reinstalled PlayOn several times, reverted back to previous versions, etc. The only thing I haven't done is reformat my disk and reinstall Windows. I really don't want to do this if there is another way to remove this little print. Any ideas?

• Scroll wheel causes browsers + Windows explorer to go back

  I use Windows 7 on a VirtualBox VM on a Mac. Lately, when I'm using any browser (IE9, Chrome or FireFox or even Windows Explorer), use of the scroll wheel followed by any movement of the mouse cursor causes the browser to go back. Very annoying. This happens when I use the scroll wheel on a USB connected mouse (brand/model unknown, since I don't have it in front of me as I write this) or when I use two-finger scrolling on the trackpad when no mouse is connected. When I connect from my VM to a remote Windows box (Windows Server 2008), I experience the same problem. I have tried rebooting the VM to no avail. I am not sure when the problem started exactly. It may or may not have been after I connected the USB mouse for the first time, but trying to unplug it and then rebooting didn't help. I have tried to google for a solution, but all I've found are people who accidentally pressed the shift key while scrolling, which will cause the browser to go backward or forward in the browser history. This however is not the problem I'm having. To be clear, in my case the browser only goes back when I move the mouse after I've used the scroll wheel. I'm at my wits end :(

• Screen Flickering: Hardware or Software?

  I have a Samsung N120 netbook (upgraded to 2GB DDR2 RAM) and there has been a screen flickering issue for some time now. However, I have not been able to accurately determine whether it is a software or hardware issue. Here are some of the symptoms: The flicker is white-colored and shows up as vertical lines. Flickering or not, there may be occasionally some random blue patterns (no image distortion) The screen tends to flicker more when the screen is not tilted back all the way. When tilting the screen back and forth, the screen will usually flicker. Some images on the screen may randomly distort without full-on flickering. The screen will flicker only on certain websites, but not on others. A certain part of a webpage may constantly be distorted randomly, even when scrolling. While flickering, the mouse will not move though I'm moving my finger along the touchpad. A connected external monitor does not have any problems. The flickering is completely random and does not seem to follow any CPU/GPU usage trends. Flickering usually gets worse when the screen brightness is turned higher. There will be flickering on battery and while plugged in. Search up "Samsung N120 - Screen Flickering" on YouTube for an idea of what the flickering looks like. However, there is no visible distortions and the flickering seems to stop when the screen has dimmed. Since the problems started, I tried formatting and using Windows 7, then formatted again and went back to Windows XP. The screen was also replaced sometime during this past summer. The uninstallation of the Samsung Battery Manager (on the original install of XP) seemed to reduce the flicker partially, but eventually got worse. So, what could possibly be the problem?

• Linux on HP Envy

  OK, the Ubuntu forums aren't helping and I thought maybe you guys here could help. First off, does anyone know the best flavor of Linux to use on an HP Envy? what has the best support out of the box? If not, does anyone know how the hell to get the following to work on Ubuntu 10.04: The touchpad to work at all? Right now, right clicking doesnt work at at all, and left clicks dont work while you have another finger on the pad at all. It jumps all over. ALSO, the multi-touch isn't clickable, but it's for sure a multi-touch touchpad. Works in W7 and can do things like a MBP in W7 The computer feels like it's on fire... i think im missing some driver. Seems odd that the random meta keys like calc, email, brightness, right click, etc work, but not the touchpad? The video card seems fine, but i haven't tested compiz fully yet... Thanks so much to anyone who helps. i want to get back to linux after a couple years on Mac. :)

• Installed Paragon HFS+ for Windows 8, now my pc won't recognize the external firewire drive

  I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about computers and I really need some help. Just got a Seagate external firewire drive this morning. I downloaded the necessary pc driver (Paragon HFS+ for Windows 8) through their website per the instructions that came with the drive. After installation, I restarted and the pc recognized the firewire drive just fine. About three hours into copying files from my pc to the firewire drive, it gave me an error and told me the files couldn't be copied. When I clicked to get out of the message, the computer crashed. After an hour of it trying to repair itself in safe mode, it restored me to an earlier version before the system crashed. Here's my current dilemma: The Paragon HFS+ is still showing up in my programs as installed, but the Device Manager is not recognizing the drive. When I try to uninstall and reinstall Paragon, it interrupts me with a message saying "The setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running" and basically gives me the finger. I have no idea what to do now, as it won't let me uninstall and reinstall Paragon, and I have no idea why it crashed my computer in the first place. Is there possibly another Mac - PC firewire driver I can try downloading instead? I really don't know what I'm doing and any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Denying access to website via htaccess based on http header

  I've been trying for ages to get this to work and I can't put my finger on it. What I'm trying to do is block access to a site from a number of countries, based on the CF-IPCountry header added by CloudFlare. I figured htaccess was a suitable way to do this. We are running LiteSpeed 4.2.4 on top of DirectAdmin for a control panel. The problem we having is the htaccess rule doesn't seem to do anything. Here's the rule we tried: SetEnvIf CF-IPCountry AU UnwantedCountry=1 Order allow,deny Deny from env=UnwantedCountry Allow from all That makes no difference at all, connections are still accepted. Just to check that the rule was at least being processed, I changed Allow from all to Deny from all, and connections were refused. So it appears to be a problem wit the variable. Here's the relevant headers that come in with the request. • How can I set up a touchscreen as the non-primary monitor in a dual monitor situation?

  I have been looking for information about using a second monitor, and thought of using a touchscreen. Will a touchscreen monitor work in a dual setup if it is not the main monitor? I haven't found any information on this; I've only found information about the touchscreen being the main monitor. That is, except at this SU question (snippet below): If you mean do the touch screen features still work on the other machine, the answer is yes. Past that, you can even see some of the touch screen features on a non touch screen monitor (just not the multi touch features!) For example, on the taskbar, click (without releasing) on any icon and then drag the mouse up, and you will see that it does the same as using your finger and dragging up. I have a HP 2510 for the main monitor. I'm thinking of adding a HP 2310ti (the touchscreen) as the secondary. My graphics card is a geforce gtx 295. I'm running Windows 7 Professional.

• How can I get Pinch to Zoom back in Desktop mode?

  Windows 7 had an old implimentation of Pinch to Zoom where bringing your fingers apart/together would act similar to ctrl + +/-, the standard zoom. It's not as nice as granular zoom (like iOS/Android use) but it worked. Most notably it doesn't work in Chrome (did before) but I haven't noticed it working in any other apps. In windows 8 desktop mode, pinch to zoom doesn't seem to work at all. It doesn't even work in One Note 2010, which, if I recall correctly, had granular zoom in Windows 7. I have an (older) 2 touch point multi-touch monitor, and I can see the visual feedback that the two touch points and coming closer/farther apart, but it doesn't zoom. Note I'm using the touchscreen, not a touchpad or the Arch mouse or other peripherals. Can I enable this somehow or is it gone from Desktop mode? It works fine in Metro apps. Additionally I get weird visual feedback when placing my second finger on the screen; a shrinking transparent square appears somewhere between the two fingers, visually similar to the Right Click visual queue when long-pressing. It's not a right click though, I can't tell what, if anything, it's doing.

• dell latitude XT touch screen issue

  yesterday I installed windows 7 ultimate after I had the enterprise version on this machine for a few months. the installation went smoothly and everything worked fine except for the finger detection of the screen(only the pen worked) and the bottom screen buttons for rotating and so. so I started to install all the missing drivers dell recommends for this model on their site, but once I tried to install N-Trig degitizer driver the installation said it was unsuccessful and since then the touch stopped working completely! I tried system restore but it didn't help so I went on and formatted the harddisk completely once again and installed windows but that didn't work either. I tried to install the N-Trig's driver but it was alarting for a fatal error and said that no device was detected. same story with N-Trig rollback. so I checked the device manager and saw an "unknown device" with VID and PID values set as 0000. I figured the N-Trig driver might have messed with the device firmware or something and now it doesnt know it's ID and munufactor... Is there anything that can be done? like forcing the N-Trig driver to install on this device or something? please help!

• Packet flooding while configuring a Debian L2TP/IPSec client?

  I'm currently at my wits end trying to configure an L2TP over IPSec VPN connection on my Debian using openswan and xl2tp box connecting to a server of unknown configuration. I've managed to successfully establish the connection and everything appears to be working well until I attempt to set the VPN connection as my default route, at which point I see a massive flood of packets simultaneously being transmitted (on the tune of ~1.5 GB in about 2min) until the server drops my connection. Prior to this network traffic on all my interfaces is minimal. According to iftop the majority of this traffic appears to be coming out of port 12, although I can't seem to figure out how to finger a specific process. If I instead just route traffic destined for 74.0.0.0/8 through it I'm able to access Google's servers through the VPN without issue. • Windows XP Freezes

  Hello. I'm running a machine with Windows XP Professional 64-bit. Every so often, it will freeze for no apparent reason. That is, everything stops responding, except the mouse. I can move the mouse around, but I can't click on anything. Keyboard input is also not accepted/received when this problem occurs. The three-finger salute fails to bring up the Task Manager. Even pressing the power button on my computer fails to shut it down. The only way out of this that I have found is to hard-reboot the machine (i.e. pull power or hold power button in for 10 seconds). This problem was occurring on the system when it had all its updates and after a fresh install when not everthing was quite yet updated. I've run the Scandisk utility and the latest version Memtest86 that supports 64-bit architecture; neither found any errors. The last time this happened was on a fresh install of Windows. Only Nero Essentials, Avast antivirus (disabled), Firefox, and Spybot were installed. I was not running Nero, Firefox, or Spybot at the time, and Avast was disabled, so I'm pretty certain this is a Windows issue. Is anybody familiar with this problem or have any pointers? Thanks.

  I'm looking for some software that would be useful for giving demonstrations. I regularly have to show the effects of scrips ect to classes while talking about their effects, and equaly regularly I have finger trouble and have to rewrite various commands - wasting class time and general energy. I'd like to be able to record a sequence of commands in advance, and then play them back at the speed of my choosing. So I might have a file that containes the commands: echo "hello world!" ls ls -l ls -l | sort I'd like to be able to play these commands back by typing similar ones in. So I'd have a blinking command prompt and if I typed 'echo "hxxx' the command prompt would read home$echo "hell and if I typed any other letters the terminal would fill up with the remainder of the command until I press enter, when it executes the command. The point is that even if I screw up the command when typing it, the command that I'd prepared in advance would be executed. My question is - does similar software exist for giving demonstrations? or even, is this an easy thing to script up...? EDIT - two quick things first of all I'm on osx - but it would be nice to get a general solution for other people who arrive here from google. and second a lot of the comments/answers are concentrating on, in effect, making it fast and easy to enter long commands by means of hotkeys and the like. Actually I'd like it to at least look like I'm typing live - that's why I put in the bit about the one-to-one keymapping, but I don't think I explained that quite as well as I could have...

• Booting Windows from different partition than system

  I have bought an SSD disk, but my laptop (Dell Precision M6300) refuse to use it as a target disk for windows (AHCPI on/off, BIOS up-to-date). I can't exchange the disk unfortunately... But fortunately, I've managed to install windows using USB disk case. The problem is, that when I put that disk as my internal drive it can't boot. (Disk read error, Three Finger Salute ... ) So I tried with Linux (openSUSE), I manage to install it as well, but when I tried to boot GRUB from internal drive I get errors again. (Should I try GRUB2?) I figured out that I can boot into that internal hard drive's openSUSE system using small USB drive with GRUB, kernel and image on it. So, I just run GRUB from USB drive, it loads necessary stuff from the USB drive and then continues from the internal drive. I want to do the same with Windows. But GRUB (rootnoverify and chainloader +1) does not boot my windows on internal drive. The question: is there any chance to copy the critical windows' boot files into the USB drive, to make it possible to boot from that USB drive, but continue booting from internal (different in general) drive? The USB drive would became a system hardware key! ;-) Disk: Plextor M5S 128GB Sata III, laptop has Sata II, but it's compatible anyway, right?

• Can't login after upgrading to Windows 8.1

  This afternoon, I upgraded my work laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I had previously had a local account, but after the upgrade, it prompted me to enter my windows account credentials, which I had set up beforehand at some point. I entered my password and clicked next, went through another screen or two, grew tired with the process, and clicked whatever the equivalent button to "skip this step" that I was presented with. Now I can't log in. Not with my (previous) local account password, and not with my windows account password. It's a Dell with biometric identification, which I had set up previously, so I put my finger on the reader and it complained that I couldn't use that fingerprint because I had changed my password. But, I hadn't wittingly changed my password at all. I assume that what happened is that, by entering my credentials, my local account was tied to the Windows account, but because I cancelled the process partway through, something went wrong and I cannot log in. A few questions: 1) How do I log in with my windows account credentials? Should LOCALMACHINENAME\username, which was my previous login method, still work for the Windows account? When I booted to safemode it prompted me with WindowsAccount\myemailaddress, which allowed me to login there, but the regular login doesn't accept the '@' symbol. 2) Is there any way to make that account local-only again? I can't find any way of doing it. 3) I managed to enable the local administrator account and get back into the box; failing all else, is there a quick way to migrate my old profile over to a new user?

• What Can We Learn About Software Security by Going to the Gym

  There was a recent rash of car break-ins at the gym. Not an epidemic by any stretch, probably 4 or 5, but still... My gym used to allow you to hang your keys from a peg board at the front desk. This way you could come to the gym dressed to work out, lock your valuables in your car, and not have anything to worry about. Ignorance is bliss. The problem was that anyone who wanted to could go pick up your car keys, click the unlock button and find your car. Once there, they could rummage through your stuff and then walk back in and finish their workout as if nothing had happened. The people doing this were a little smatter then the average thief and would swipe some but not all of your cash leaving everything else in place. Most thieves would steal the whole car and be busted more quickly. The victims were unaware that anything had happened for several days. Fortunately, once the victims realized what had happened, the gym was still able to pull security tapes and find out who was misbehaving. All of the bad guys were busted, and everyone can now breathe a sigh of relieve. It is once again safe to go to the gym. Except there was still a fundamental problem. Putting your keys on a peg board by the front door is just asking for bad things to happen. One person got busted exploiting this security flaw. Others can still be exploiting it. In fact, others may well have been exploiting it and simply never got caught. How long would it take you to realize that $10 was missing from your wallet, if everything else was there? How would you even know when it went missing? Would you go to the front desk and even bother to ask them to review security tapes if you were only missing a small amount. Once highlighted, it is easy to see how commonly such vulnerability may have been exploited. So the gym did the very reasonable precaution of removing the peg board. To me the most shocking part of this story is the resulting uproar from gym members losing the convenient key peg. How dare they remove the trusted peg board? How can I work out now, I have to carry my keys from machine to machine? How can I enjoy my workout with this added inconvenience? This all happened a couple of weeks ago, and some people are still complaining. In light of the recent high profile hacking, there are a couple of parallels that can be drawn. Many web sites are riddled with vulnerabilities are crazy and easily exploitable as leaving your car keys by the front door while you work out. No one ever considered thanking the people who were swiping these keys for pointing out the vulnerability. Without a hesitation, they had their gym memberships revoked and are awaiting prosecution. The gym did recognize the vulnerability for what it is, and closed up that attack vector. What can we learn from this? Monitoring and logging will not prevent a crime but they will allow us to identify that a crime took place and may help track down who did it. Once we find a security weakness, we need to eliminate it. We may never identify and eliminate all security weaknesses, but we cannot allow well known vulnerabilities to persist in our system. In our case, we are not likely to meet resistance from end users. We are more likely to meet resistance from stake holders, product owners, keeper of schedules and budgets. We may meet resistance from integration partners, co workers, and third party vendors. Regardless of the source, we will see resistance, but the weakness needs to be dealt with. There is no need to glorify a cracker for bringing to light a security weakness. Regardless of their claimed motives, they are not heroes. There is also no point in wasting time defending weaknesses once they are identified. Deal with the weakness and move on. In may be embarrassing to find security weaknesses in our systems, but it is even more embarrassing to continue ignoring them. Even if it is unpopular, we need to seek out security weaknesses and eliminate them when we find them. http://www.sans.org has put together the Common Weakness Enumeration http://cwe.mitre.org/ which lists out common weaknesses. • Think before you animate

  Animations are becoming more and more common in our applications.  With technologies like WPF, Silverlight and jQuery, animations are becoming easier for developers to use (and abuse).  When used properly, animation can augment the user experience.  When used improperly, animation can degrade the user experience.  Sometimes, the differences can be very subtle. I have recently made use of animations in a few projects and I very quickly realized how easy it is to abuse animation techniques.  Here are a few things I have learned along the way. 1) Don’t animate for the sake of animating We’ve all seen the PowerPoint slides with annoying slide transitions that animate 20 different ways.  It’s distracting and tacky.  The same holds true for your application.  While animations are fun and becoming easy to implement, resist the urge to use the technology just because you think the technology is amazing.   2) Animations should (and do) have meaning I recently built a simple Windows Phone 7 (WP7) application, Steeped (download it here).  The application has 2 pages.  The first page lists a number of tea types.  When the user taps on one of the tea types, the application navigates to the second page with information about that tea type and some options for the user to choose from.       One of the last things I did before submitting Steeped to the marketplace was add a page transition between the 2 pages.  I choose the Slide / Fade Out transition.  When the user selects a tea type, the main page slides to the left and fades out.  At the same time, the details page slides in from the right and fades in.  I tested it and thought it looked great so I submitted the app.  A few days later, I asked a friend to try the app.  He selected a tea type, and I was a little surprised by how he used the app.  When he wanted to navigate back to the main page, instead of pressing the back button on the phone, he tried to use a swiping gesture.  Of course, the swiping gesture did nothing because I had not implemented that feature.  After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the page transition I had chosen implied a particular behaviour.  As a user, if an action I perform causes an item (in this case the page) to move, then my expectation is that I should be able to move it back.  I have since added logic to handle the swipe gesture and I think the app flows much better now. When using animation, it pays to ask yourself:  What story does this animation tell my users?   3) Watch the replay Some animations might seem great initially but can get annoying over time.  When you use an animation in your application, make sure you try using it over and over again to make sure it doesn’t get annoying.  When I add an animation, I try watch it at least 25 times in a row.  After watching the animation repeatedly, I can make a more informed decision whether or not I should keep the animation.  Often, I end up shortening the length of the animations.   4) Don’t get in the users way An animation should never slow the user down.  When implemented properly, an animation can give a perceived bump in performance.  A good example of this is a the page transitions in most of the built in apps on WP7.  Obviously, these page animations don’t make the phone any faster, but they do provide a more responsive user experience.  Why?  Because most of the animations begin as soon as the user has performed some action.  The destination page might not be fully loaded yet, but the system responded immediately to user action, giving the impression that the system is more responsive.  If the user did not see anything happen until after the destination page was fully loaded, the application would feel clumsy and slow.  Also, it is important to make sure the animation does not degrade the performance (or perceived performance) of the application.   Jut a few things to consider when using animations.  As is the case with many technologies, we often learn how to misuse it before we learn how to use it effectively.

• Android: Autoscrolling HorizontalScrollView

  I'm using the following code to simulate tabs and since there are more tabs that width can accommodate user can scroll left or right to make a tab button visible. It all works, however I also provide user with ability to fling between tabs by swiping finger left or right on the tab contents. Again - it works. But when I fling to the rightmost tab its corresponding button is barely visible. I want to autoscroll table inside the HorizontalScrollView so the selected tab button will be visible but when I execute HorizontalScrollView.smoothScrollTo(300, 0) nothing happens. It doen't matter how high I set first x parameter nothing will ever move (yes I do have an algorithm to calculate exact position). • android: AbsListView.OnScrollListener SCROLL_STATE_IDLE is not called after SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROL

  I have a problem with android version 2.1. It looks like a bug. I attached an OnScrollListener to my listView. I'm using the method onScrollStateChanged(AbsListView view, int scrollState) for monitoring the scroll's state of my listview. The scrollstate could assume 3 value (taken from the documentation): SCROLL_STATE_FLING: The user had previously been scrolling using touch and had performed a fling. The animation is now coasting to a stop SCROLL_STATE_IDLE:The view is not scrolling. Note navigating the list using the trackball counts as being in the idle state since these transitions are not animated. SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROLL:The user is scrolling using touch, and their finger is still on the screen I assume that the SCROLL_STATE_IDLE will always be passed after one of other two states. It's always true excepted for android version 2.1. SCROLL_STATE_IDLE is not passed after SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROLL The problem happens also if you stop the fling by a touch instead of let the scroll stop by itself. This strange behaviour leaves my listView in an unconsistate state. Someonelse has the same problem? Suggestion for a "not-so-dirty" work around?
