    I use "Comic Sans MS" font on my web page. The web page looks OK if I open it under Windows and MAC. But it does not work under Linux. How can I solve this problem? May be I can put the font on my web server? Is this font available for free? Can it slow down my page? Or may be I can replace "Comic Sans MS" by another font which is similar and is available on the 3 operation systems?

  • How to make xlock use the first key I hit as a part of my password

    I just switched from Arch Linux to Ubuntu 10.10. I'm running the Fluxbox window manager, and I use xlockmore to lock my screen with the following key shortcut: 192 :Exec xlock-mode marquee +usefirst -icongeometry 240x240 -message "back in a minute..." The problem I'm having is that xlock is definitely not using my first key as part of my password. Instead, it uses some randomized fade pattern to fade to the password screen. I find this highly annoying, as when I get back to my desk and start entering my password it doesn't register password characters until the fade pattern is complete. I've also tried the following modifications with no difference: 192 :Exec xlock -mode marquee -usefirst -icongeometry 240x240 -message "back in a minute..." 192 :Exec xlock -mode marquee -icongeometry 240x240 -message "back in a minute..." The first example worked flawlessly on Arch. Does Ubuntu have some sort of system default that you can't override on the command-line?

  • Upcoming Carbon Tax in South Africa

    By Elena Avesani, Principal Product Strategy Manager, Oracle In 2012, the South Africa National Treasury announced the plan to impose a carbon tax to cut carbon emissions that are blamed for climate change. South Africa is ranked among the top 20 countries measured by absolute carbon dioxide emissions, with emissions per capita in the region of 10 metric tons per annum and over 90% of South Africa's energy produced by burning fossil fuels. The top 40 largest companies in the country are responsible for 207 million tons of carbon dioxide, directly emitting 20 percent of South Africa’s carbon output. The legislation, originally scheduled to be implemented from January 2015 to 31 December 2019, is now delayed to January 2016. It will levy a carbon tax of R120 (US$11) per ton of CO2, rising then by 10 percent a year until 2020, while all sectors bar electricity will be able to claim additional relief of at least 10 percent. The South African treasury proposed a 60 percent tax-free threshold on emissions for all sectors, including electricity, petroleum, iron, steel and aluminum. I've got the problem that the loop is correctly delayed only every second frame, so it runs one frame delayed at 60 FPS and the next without delay at over 1000 fps. I am searching the error quite a while now, but I do not find it. I hope somebody can point me in the right direction.

    I downloaded NetBeans IDE and Eclipse IDE from the internet and installed then. Well, the Eclipse IDE works fine, but when I execute NetBeans IDE directly from the link, without sudo permission, it shows me lots of error telling that some files are read only. This does not happens when I'm using the terminal to call the .sh script with sudo permissions. Another thing that bothers me: How can I fix my shortcuts in the Ubuntu's 12.04 sidebar? I want to combine a launcher with enough permissions to do everything it's needing and fix it in my sidebar. Is it possible?

She talks about installers now being standardized in Oracle for greater consistency -- no more WebLogic native installers. Also, JDK is no longer a part of the WebLogic install. The various installers she discusses include OUI, ZIP, OEPE, Coherence and more. Monica then takes us through a step by step install process. After the install process is complete the video takes us through the configuration wizard. The ZIP installer is then discussed and its effectiveness, such as it being the smallest downloadable option, easy, and very popular with our customers and limitations (such as for development only and not to be used in production) highlighted. Monica then takes us through the configuration wizard, its usage, and when to use WLST scripts. The video then discusses NodeManager and its usage and discusses how to reconfigure a WebLogic domain on upgrade – through our GUI tools or through command line interface.   • Lock screen elements frozen on desktop

    I have finally made the switch from Windows to Ubuntu and now have to ask the first question because search did not help me this time. (Please help me in a newb-friendly way) The problem is easily described: The elements shown in the lockscreen on boot (ubuntu logo in the middle and watermark in bottom left corner) stay there even when I'm entering desktop. How can I remove them again? They haven't been there in the first place, but after updating Ubuntu with Update Center, the problem occured.   • Dual Monitor Lock Screen Problem

    Ubuntu 12.04 Nvidia GTX 550-Ti x-swat Nvidia driver Problem: Using 2 monitors. When screen locks there is a blue box on top of the wallpaper and password dialog box that hides the field for entering your password or switching users. Problem is on 2 systems with similar hardware (Nvidia card, x-swat driver, dual monitors) You can still type your password in blindly and hit enter to login but it's irritating to not be able to see the dialog box.

  • How do I prevent the Sleep button from locking the screen

    My keyboard has a Sleep button. I defined a shortcut in System Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts own settings (or similar), so that the Sleep buttons runs a script. That works. But since my upgrade to Oneiric, something also locks the screen (in the same way the screen is locked when I press Ctrl+Alt+L). Can I disable that behaviour? What's the name of that lock screen? I tried hiding gnome-screensaver and /etc/acpi/ and I looked in gconf-editor /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons. I didn't find anything related in dconf-editor.

  • poor font rendering in browsers on 12.04

    I'm using a Lenovo B570e. I've installed the mesa-utils for the graphic driver because it wasn't recognized by default. Now I have this: graphic card : Intel® Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2. I don't know if it's just my impression but I think all the images are a little bit pixelated and I think it have something to do with the drivers. Maybe is not the correct driver associated with it, I'm saying this because when I was on Windows 7 the name of the driver was something like " Intel hd graphics..." Any suggestions? Thank you! Later edit: This seems to happen only in browsers.

  • Render SVG font in Adobe Illistrator or Corel Draw

    Hello! I'm developing a project that produces SVG files with custom embed fonts. SVG font definition I compose as SVG font tag with help of http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator or Batik SVG Toolkit. The resulted SVG file I try to open in following applications: Adobe Illustrator CS4 - text has default font and message noticed about font not found in system CorelDRAW X5 - text has default font and any messages don't noticed Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) - renders text correctly The problem is all modern typographies use CorelDRAW and Abode Illustrator for print vector graphic and them render not correctly SVG. Solution As for me, I see follow solutions: Save the text with custom font as SVG path. This will work but, I can't find any solution that can convert text + TTF to SVG path data; Use other vector format, f.e. AI, EPS or CDR. This solution is difficult for me, because I use SVG paths as part of input data; Recommend our users to use Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) or any other application which are based on Batik SVG Toolkit library. Batik SVG Toolkit requires Java runtime :( If anyone know some knowledge to open SVG embed fonts in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW please share them. I would be grateful for any help.
