• iPad modal form sheet takes up the whole screen anyways

  I'm trying to create a form sheet modal on iPad, which should be a 540x620 modal view. I've created a view controller with a NIB file whose view is a 540x620 sized UIView (with stuff on it). I set the modal presentation style to UIModalPresentationFormSheet, and call presentModalViewController:animated: on the current view controller. My view slides in from the bottom, but instead of being a form sheet, it takes up the whole screen (my view elements are all anchored in the top left of the screen). Even stranger, when I dismiss it, all the UI that was "underneath" it, is all re-layed out to be in the center, in approximately a form sheet sized area in the center of the screen. Bizarro! Anyone have any suggestions as to what could cause this behavior? Thanks.

  With reference to the question I asked couple of days back, it seems to me that address bar cannot be hidden from a xpages mobile web application when it is launched from a href link. Choice is limited to href as "location.assign" or any javascript will not work on mails accessed by lotus traveller. I tried almost 20 different variations published by other experts to hide address bar and none seems to work. Am I wrong in stating that "it is not possible to hide address bar in Xpages mobile web application on ipad when not launched from home screen"?

• Core Data iPad/iPhone BLOBS vs File system for 20k PDFs

  I'm designing an iPad/iPhone app using core data. The main focus of the app is sorting and viewing up to 20,000 PDFs They are ~200KB each. Typically its best to not store BLOBS in a DB, but for desktop systems I've typically seen it said that if the blobs are < 1 MB then its fine to use the DB. Any considerations I should take into count? If I store them in the file system can I store them all in one directory and not have performance issues (I won't need to ever get a directory list since I'd store each's path in the DB)? Should I divide them among a handful of directories? If so is there a good rule on # of files per dir?

• Core Plot on iPad Runs with Debugger, not Standalone

  Hey guys, Thanks to Ole Begemann, I spent yesterday digging around in Core Plot to explore adding graphing to an iPad application that I've been working on. I was fairly satisfied with it, and wanted to show it off to a friend of mine - so I stopped the debugger, took the device off the dock, handed it over to my friend and pushed the icon. Lo, it started and then immediately crashed. I figured that it was using the release profile, and on a whim went ahead and compiled and ran (through the debugger) under the release profile instead of the debug. As expected, it crashed right away with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I have added the relative path to the core plot to Release configuration and -all_load and -ObjC to the "other" linker flags - just like in the debugger profile and googled all around. IT seems that most people with this issue have forgotten to add the linker flags. Does anyone have any suggestions for next steps in figuring out this issue?

  I'm porting my iPhone app to iPad. I have a bunch of detail views that derive from UIViewController and implement UITableViewDelegate. (Basically TableViews but not derived as such). The old app used TabBar, but now I'd like to use SplitView with toolbars on the Detail and Master views. How do I enable a toolbar on my UIViewController inside a UISplitViewController? • iphone/ipad orientation handling

  This is more of a general question for people to provide me guidance on, basically Im learning iPad/iPhone development and have finally come across the multi-orientation support question. I have looked up a fair amount of doco, and my book "Beginning iPhone 3 Development" has a nice chapter on it. But my question is this, if I was to programatically change my controls (or even use different views for each orientation) how on earth to people maintain their code base? I can just imagine so many issues with spaghetti code/thousands of "if" checks all over the place, that it would drive me nuts to make one small change to the UI arrangement. Does anyone have experience handling this issue? What is a nice way to control it? Thanks a lot Mark

• iPad/iPod: autoRotate resizes view in window

  Developing an iPad interface, I have a scenario where I have a UIViewController which manages a view that gets placed directly as a subview of the main UIWindow. Before being placed in the UIWindow, that view gets resized to a non-standard size, let's say, 768x460, and positioned at the bottom of the screen. When rotating the device, the autoRotate feature of the UIViewController causes the view to be resized so that it fills the entire UIWindow space. I thought this might be because in the XIB, the view is set to window size, but when I changed it to reflect the desired size, it still expanded it to the window size. Then I went into the MainWindow XIB and turned off autoresizeSubviews, and it still happens. This is a very frustrating problem, I am hoping that there is merely something obvious that I am missing out on. Anyone have any bright ideas?

  Trying to get my Universal app released and I rely on AdMob ads for revenue in this particular app. I'm having an issue getting AdMob support working, though I keep finding references to people actually running AdMob on their iPad Simulators. Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'AdMobInvalidLibaryVersionException', reason: 'This version of AdMob SDK is incompatible with the iPhone 3.2 SDK or above. Make sure your Active SDK is set to 3.1.X . If you need to build with 3.2, use the 3.2 preview library.' I have not been able to find this "3.2 preview library" anywhere. Any ideas?

• TeX on iPad compatible with Apple's policy?

  Hi, As a nerd, I think it would be nice to have a TeX editor on the iPad. But TeX is a Turing-complete language, and it is arguably a general-purpose compiler/interpreter. Does that make it unacceptable to the App Store? Furthermore, if somebody ports TeX compiler to javascript and runs inside WebKit, does it make acceptable to the App Store? FYI, here's the section of the developer's agreement: 3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and builtin interpreter(s).

• Why is my ipad's wireless so flakey?

  I'm the proud owner of a new IPad here in the UK. All is good, except for the wifi, which is a bit flakey. It connects fine to my Draytek router which is set for WPA/WPA2 and 56g only, displaying full signal strength. Then, after a few minutes, it goes down to minimum strength... And sometimes it goes back up again. A few times, it seems to loose connection completely, and needs to be turned off and on again. I've looked at the Apple support site, and have tried their recommendations (which are not really very relevant), but still nothing. I've tried setting the router to wpa2 only, and setting long-preamble. Right now, I guess I want to know if it's a hardware problem with my device and should be returned, or if it's a problem with all ipads which will be resolved. Guess I could take it back to the Mac genius bar, but I find those guys so incredibly pretentious and, frankly, rather useless, that i'd rather wait until I've exercised other options!

• Custom size app screen on iPad

  I am trying to create a mid-size screen for my app on iPad. In didFinishLaunchingWithOptions(), I do this: CGRect winRect = CGRectMake(100,100,500,500); navController.view.frame = winRect; the screen comes up fine and I can click around and do stuff until the orientation changes. It takes the screen to original full size - how can I make it stick to my winRect frame? I tried setting the parentViewController.view.frame/view.frame to winRect in willRotateToInterfaceOrientation() but no good. Any ideas? Thanks.

• iPhoneOS SDK - Remove Corner Rounding from views (iPad problem)

  Hi Guys This might be a little bit picky, but in the iPad SplitViewController setup, there are 2 views. Each of the views has a very small black corner rounding. (This is probably the same with iPhone apps too). This rounding is visible in the image below. What I would like to do is remove the black rounding, so the UI doesnt get these two little bumps along the bottom. Has anyone done this, or know how to? -Its surely possible. • iPad: CoreData FetchedRequest Ignores Changes in Predicate

  Hi there, While programming an iPad-app, I'm just running into trouble using a fetchedResultsController with a "dynamic" predicate. it seems the changes to the predicate get ignored.   Hi, I want to create and sell book / cartoons by individual episodes. What's the best way to to this? iBook from the apple store tends to sell by entire volume / book... I see an App from Marvel sells its contents by individual episodes, but I don't want to create / maintain shopping carts and stuff. (I am assuming iPad / iPhone users are downloading each cartoon episodes by their Marvel servers) I want to utilize Apple iBook / iTune store... I never intended for it to be an iPhone application because the content it displays really doesnt lend itself to such a small screen. However, I have been getting a lot of requestes for the application to be compatible with iPhones as well. Can someone point me in the direction of some documentation that may help me figure out how to convert my app. I presume it's not so simple as having aanother set of XIB files for iPhone and just have it display them if the app is running on a phone...

• memory issue iPad 4.2 crashes

  I am developing a application which receives 600-700 KB of XML data from the server. I have to do some manipulations in that data so once received the data the memory increases to 600 KB to 2 M.B. Already view occupied 4 M.B of memory in the application. So while processing the XML data i m doing some manipulation(pre-parsing) and the memory increases to 600 K.B to 2 M.B and finally decreases to 600 K.B. due to increase in memory, application gives the memory warning. While getting memory warning i m releasing all the views in the navigation controller but it releases only 1 M.B of memory. Even though I release all the views the application is crashing. Please help me out in this issue. It happens in iPad 4.2. Thanks in advance

• focus on page scroll navigation when using iPad

  I've used Page Scroller Lite http://pagescroller.com to set up a single-page site at http://www.thestitchshop.co.uk There seems to be an issue that scolling works only once when clicking on a menu item. It will only work again after one touched scrolls the page 'manually' by sliding the finger across the page. Apparently, the issue is that the content gets the focus after the scroll and tapping on navigation then actually taps behind it. I've tried contacting the author of pagecroller, but no luck. So, how do I fix it? I don't have any JS knowledge, so I need a little more help along the way. Many thanks.   I've been working on a site where 2 video clips are streamed using Amazon Cloudfront and Flowplayer. You can see one video/page here: http://graemeclarkoration.org.au/gcorationp1.htm (works as a Highslide popup/modal window, hence the lack of adornment). While it works in all browsers and Android devices, I can't get it to work on an iPad or an iPhone; the page opens fine and the video box appears but the video never loads. • Why would a "view" object in Interface Builder prevent my didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from

  You may have already come across some of my other questions related to question, but I was having an issue with a SplitView iPad app where my application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method stopped executing after I went into Interface Builder and changed around the structure of my apps interface. I couldn't figure out what was preventing my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method from executing, but then I removed a "view" object I had in my view heirarchy (shown below) and suddenly my didFinishLauchingWithOptions method started executing again. I've moved passed it now, but I'm still unclear why that would cause the problem. Any ideas why that "view" object would prevent the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method from executing?

• UITableViewController truncating section header title

  I've got an iPad app with a UITableViewController. I am setting the header titles for my table sections using - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section When the table loads, if I scroll down too quickly, when a section header appears on screen it will be truncated to the first letter and ... (ie "Holidays" is trucated to "H..."). If I keep scrolling down until the header goes off the top of the view and then scroll back up to it, the title appears correctly in full. Has anyone ever experienced this?

  Hi, I'm working on a project for the iPad, I need to read and write to an xml file, which is also used by the counter part of the application in windows. The problem that I have is that I've been looking around but I haven't found a way to modify an element or attribute in an xml, without having to build the whole xml again. I saw this other post, which is basically the same problem that I have, and I also end it up in the same point as the person asking the question, NSXMLParser and TouchXML are read only and do not allowed me to modify my xml. • Link to specific page on Google Document Viewer on iPad

  I am thinking of using the Google Document Viewer to show PDF files that are hosted by our company server. The scenario is: A webpage will contain a menu with menu items that are actually different pages of a PDF file. After clicking a menu item, that particular page from the pdf will be displayed on that same web page This project is targeted for mobile devices (iPad, for now) Now, I am using an iFrame like below: But I don't know if linking to a specific page is possible or Google would like that because I tried the solutions posted on how to open specific page on Google's docs viewer and http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/11/link-to-page-in-googles-document-viewer.html but all of them seem to be outdated.
