  • Display a input type=file over another input type=file

    WARNING: Lengthy description coming up! I have written an uploader based upon APC progress uploader for PHP. This works fine and dandy, but the script as a whole (apc etc) is intended to be used only for those with Javascript. To achieve this, I have searched for any input type=file, and replaced these with an absolutely positioned form that appears over the original area where the old file input area was. The reasons for this are so the new uploader can submit to a hidden in page IFrame has to be in a seperate <form> in order to submit to the APC reciever to display the progress upload bar. allows it to be used within any form with an input type=file throughout the site I have used JQuery to do this, with the following code: Original HTML form code: <div><input type="file" name="media" id="media" /></div> Find position of div block code: // get the parent div, and properties thereof parentDiv = $(this).closest('div'); w = $(parentDiv).width(); h = $(parentDiv).height(); loc = $(parentDiv).offset(); Locate new block over old block: $('#_sender').appendTo('body').css({left:loc.left,top:loc.top,position:'absolute',zIndex:400,height:h,width:w}).show(); This works fine, and shows over the old block OK. The problem: When other elements in the DOM before or above it change (in this case a "tree view" selector is pushing the old block down) the new upload form gets moved over other elements. Is there a JQuery (or JS) method for changing this upon DOM change? Some kind of .onchange for the page?! Or an .onmove for the original block?     This is an offshoot question that's related to another I asked here. I'm splitting it off because it's really a sub-question: I'm having difficulties casting an object of type dynamic to another (known) static type. I have an ironPython script that is doing this: import clr clr.AddReference("System") from System import * def GetBclUri(): return Uri("http://google.com") note that it's simply newing up a BCL System.Uri type and returning it. So I know the static type of the returned object. now over in C# land, I'm newing up the script hosting stuff and calling this getter to return the Uri object: dynamic uri = scriptEngine.GetBclUri(); System.Uri u = uri as System.Uri; // casts the dynamic to static fine Works no problem. I now can use the strongly typed Uri object as if it was originally instantiated statically. however.... Now I want to define my own C# class that will be newed up in dynamic-land just like I did with the Uri. My simple C# class: namespace Entity { public class TestPy // stupid simple test class of my own { public string DoSomething(string something) { return something; } } } Now in Python, new up an object of this type and return it: sys.path.append(r'C:..path here...') clr.AddReferenceToFile("entity.dll") import Entity.TestPy def GetTest(): return Entity.TestPy(); // the C# class then in C# call the getter: dynamic test = scriptEngine.GetTest(); Entity.TestPy t = test as Entity.TestPy; // t==null!!! here, the cast does not work. Note that the 'test' object (dynamic) is valid--I can call the DoSomething()--it just won't cast to the known static type string s = test.DoSomething("asdf"); // dynamic object works fine so I'm perplexed. the BCL type System.Uri will cast from a dynamic type to the correct static one, but my own type won't. There's obviously something I'm not getting about this...

  • Algorithm for Negating Sentences

    I was wondering if anyone was familiar with any attempts at algorithmic sentence negation. For example, given a sentence like "This book is good" provide any number of alternative sentences meaning the opposite like "This book is not good" or even "This book is bad". Obviously, accomplishing this with a high degree of accuracy would probably be beyond the scope of current NLP, but I'm sure there has been some work on the subject. If anybody knows of any work, care to point me to some papers?

    I'm writing my first DSL with Oslo and I am having a problem with a recursive syntax definition. The input has sections which can contain questions or other sections recursively (composite pattern) like this: Section: A Question: 1 Question: 2 Section: B Question: 1 End End My definition for a Section looks like this syntax Section = "Section:" id:Text body:(SectionBody)* "End Section"; Which works (but doesn't handle recursive sections) if I define SectionBody like this syntax SectionBody = (Question); but doesn't work with a recursive definition like this syntax SectionBody = (Question | Section); What am I missing?

  • Jquery Table sorter and special characters

    Hi there, am using jquery tablesorter plugin and in my "country" column i got special characters like this: Índia. The fact is that when i hit the header of the column to sort it, it puts my "Índia" at the end of the column. I guess the nav sees the Í instead of the real "I" with an accent. Any clue on how to make it work even with accents ?   • How do I disable "eager" validation entirely using jquery validate ?

    Is there a way to disable "eager" validation using the jquery.validate plugin? Either through an option in the script or as a hack? "Eager" validation kicks in once the form has been validated once - after that, invalid fields are validated onfocusout. I want to disable this behavior, and change my forms to only be validated when the submit button is pressed. I don't mind hacking through the validate script itself also, so if that's what the solution requires that's acceptable.

  • How to properly force a Blackberry Java application to install using Loader.exe

    I want to include the Application Loader process in a software installation, to ensure that users get our software installed on their Blackberry by the time our installer software finishes. I know this is possible, because Aerize Card Loader (http://aerize.com/blackberry/software/loader/) does this. When you install their software, if your Blackberry is connected the Application Loader will come up and force the .COD file to install to the device. I can't make it work. Looking at RIM's own documentation, I need to: Place the ALX and COD files into a subfolder here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Applications\ Add a path to the ALX file in HKCU\Software\Research In Motion\Blackberry\Loader\Packages Index the application, by executing this at the command line: loader.exe /index Start the force load, by doing this: loader.exe /defaultUSB /forceload When I execute that last command, the Application Loader comes up and says that all applications are up to date and nothing needs to be done. If I execute loader.exe by double-clicking on it (or typing in the command with no parameters), I get the regular Application Loader wizard. It shows my program as listed, but un-checked. If I check it and click next, it will install to the Blackberry. (This is the part that I want to avoid, and that Aerize Card Loader's install process avoids.) What am I missing? It appears that the Aerize installer is doing something different but I haven't been able to ascertain what.

  • Javascript onunload form submit isn't submitting data

    I currently have form that checks if a user has unsubmitted changes when they leave the page with a function called through the onunload event. Here's the function: function saveOnExit() { var answer = confirm("You are about to leave the page. All unsaved work will be lost. Would you like to save now?"); if (answer) { document.main_form.submit(); } } And here's the form: <body onunload="saveOnExit()"> <form name="main_form" id="main_form" method="post" action="submit.php" onsubmit="saveScroll()"> <textarea name="comments"></textarea> <input type="submit" name="submit2" value="Submit!"/> </form> I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The data gets submitted and saved in my database if I just press the submit button for the form. However, trying to submit the form through the onunload event doesn't result in anything being stored, from what I can tell. I've tried adding onclick alerts to the submitt button and onsubmit alerts to the form elements and I can verify that the submit button is being triggered and that the form does get submitted. However, nothing gets passed stored in the database. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

  • Enable intellisense for imported tlb in VC++ 6

    We have a library for a complex COM object that we are importing using the following: #import "library.tlb" this works fine, VC++ compiles a tli file and somehow that gets magically included in the build process, so code written against the tlb works. However, intellisense doesn't pick up the library entries. This is a crazy complex COM component, and having intellisense would help immensely. Can anyone provide some pointers on how to get intellisense to work properly with this? I have tried deleting the .ncb file, and that had no effect.

Apparently people are finding difficulties knowing how it really works and they don't see at first glance that there are more events under each month (that you click to expand) So I was thinking about opening two at a time (the current month and the next) .. but I'm not sure how to enable both to be open at once ... any ideas?

  • Can I detect if higher subview has been touched?

    I've got a big UIView that responds to touches, and it's covered with lots of little UIViews that respond differently to touches. Is it possible to touch anywhere on screen and slide around, and have each view know if it's being touched? For example, I put my finger down on the upper left and slide toward the lower right. The touchesBegan/Moved is collected by the baseView. As I pass over itemView1, itemView2, and itemView3, control passes to them. If I lift my finger while over itemView2, it performs itemView2's touchesEnded method. If I lift my finger over none of the items, it performs baseView's touchesEnded. At the moment, if I touch down on baseView, touchEnded is always baseView and the higher itemViews are ignored. Any ideas?

    Hello, I have a form that is generated on a customer's website (lets say customer.com) with javascript that a user fills out and it sends to my site (app.com). I would like to be able to provide information to the customer such as how effective their AdWords campaign was and what search engines users used to end up filling out the form. I have started looking at the multiple domain linking option but I am not sure this is the right way. Is there a way to query what search engine and key words they used and pass this along with the form?

  • Altering lazy-loaded object's private variables

    I'm running into an issue with private setters when using NHibernate and lazy-loading. Let's say I have a class that looks like this: public class User { public int Foo {get; private set;} public IList<User> Friends {get; set;} public void SetFirstFriendsFoo() { // This line works in a unit test but does nothing during a live run with // a lazy-loaded Friends list Users(0).Foo = 1; } } The SetFirstFriendsFoo call works perfectly inside a unit test (as it should since objects of the same type can access each others private properties). However, when running live with a lazy-loaded Friends list, the SetFirstFriendsFoo call silently fails. I'm guessing the reason for this is because at run-time, the Users(0).Foo object is no longer of type User, but of a proxy class that inherits from User since the Friends list was lazy-loaded. My question is this: shouldn't this generate a run-time exception? You get compile-time exceptions if you try to access another class's private properties, but when you run into a situation like this is looks like the app just ignores you and continues along its way.

  • What is the best way to extend restful_authentication/AuthLogic to support lazy logins by an anonymo

    I'm building an iPhone application that talks to a Ruby on Rails backend. The Ruby on Rails application will also service web users. The restful_authentication plugin is an excellent way to provide quick and customizable user authentication. However, I would like users of the iPhone application to have an account created automatically by the phone's unique identifier ([[UIDevice device] uniqueIdentifier]) stored in a new column. Later, when users are ready to create a username/password, the account will be updated to contain the username and password, leaving the iPhone unique identifier intact. Users should not be able to access the website until they've setup their username/password. They can however, use the iPhone application, since the application can authenticate itself using it's identifier. What is the best way to modify restful_authentication to do this? Create a plugin? Or modify the generated code? What about alternative frameworks, such as AuthLogic. What is the best way to allow iPhones to get a generated auth token locked to their UUID's, but then let the user create a username/password later?

  • Saving complex aggregates using Repository Pattern

    We have a complex aggregate (sensitive names obfuscated for confidentiality reasons). The root, R, is composed of collections of Ms, As, Cs, Ss. Ms have collections of other low-level details. etc etc R really is an aggregate (no fair suggesting we split it!) We use lazy loading to retrieve the details. No problem there. But we are struggling a little with how to save such a complex aggregate. From the caller's point of view: r = repository.find(id); r.Ps.add(factory.createP()); r.Cs[5].updateX(123); r.Ms.removeAt(5); repository.save(r); Our competing solutions are: Dirty flags Each entity in the aggregate in the aggregate has a dirty flag. The save() method in the repository walks the tree looking for dirty objects and saves them. Deletes and adds are a little trickier - especially with lazy-loading - but doable. Event listener accumulates changes. Repository subscribes a listener to changes and accumulates events. When save is called, the repository grabs all the change events and writes them to the DB. Give up on repository pattern. Implement overloaded save methods to save the parts of the aggregate separately. The original example would become: r = repository.find(id); r.Ps.add(factory.createP()); r.Cs[5].updateX(123); r.Ms.removeAt(5); repository.save(r.Ps); repository.save(r.Cs); repository.save(r.Ms); (or worse) Advice please! What should we do?

  • Client/JS Framework for "Unsaved Data" Protection?

    Hey all- we have a typical web application that is essentially a data entry application with lots of screens some of which have some degree of complexity. We need to provide that standard capability on making sure if the user forgets to click the "Save" button before navigating away or closing their browser they get a warning and can cancel (but only when there is unsaved or dirty data). I know the basics of what I've got to do-- in fact I'm sure I've done it all before over the years (tie in to onbeforeunload, track the "dirty" state of the page, etc...) but before I embark on coding this YET AGAIN, does anyone have some suggestions for libraries already out there (free or otherwise) that will help out?   • Generate a set of strings with maximum edit distance

    Problem 1: I'd like to generate a set of n strings of fixed length m from alphabet s such that the minimum Levenshtein distance (edit distance) between any two strings is greater than some constant c. Obviously, I can use randomization methods (e.g., a genetic algorithm), but was hoping that this may be a well-studied problem in computer science or mathematics with some informative literature and an efficient algorithm or three. Problem 2: Same as above except that adjacent characters cannot repeat; the i'th character in each string may not be equal to the i+1'th character. E.g., 'CAT', 'AGA' and 'TAG' are allowed, 'GAA', 'AAT', and 'AAA' are not. Background: The basis for this problem is bioinformatic and involves designing unique DNA tags that can be attached to biologically derived DNA fragments and then sequenced using a fancy second generation sequencer. The goal is to be able to recognize each tag, allowing for random insertion, deletion, and substitution errors. The specific DNA sequencing technology has a relatively low error rate per base (~1%), but is less precise when a single base is repeated 2 or more times (motivating the additional constraints imposed in problem 2).

  • Determine if a url matches a Route, and pull out the terms if it does

    I've got a big old log file I'm trying to break down in terms of routes. Essentially, I'm getting input of a path (/questions/31415 for example) and a list of all the registered Routes. What I want out is a Route and the parameters specified in the route (so in, /questions/{id}/{answer} I'd get id and answers out). I've got a working solution that basically generates a nasty bit of regex on the fly with named groups to do matching and parsing all-in-one. My gut tells me this is a brittle way to do it, and frankly there has to be a better way, right?

    for my app each annotation on a map corresponds to a mine locality. each mine has its own unique 7 digit integer identifier. I'm trying to add the property minesEntryNumber to the annotation so when the annotation is clicked on later I can bring up specific information on the selected annotation. This is part of my code: for (id mine in mines) { //NSLog(@"in the loop"); workingCoordinate.latitude = [[mine latitudeInitial] doubleValue]; workingCoordinate.longitude = [[mine longitudeInitial] doubleValue]; iProspectAnnotation *tempMine = [[iProspectAnnotation alloc] initWithCoordinate:workingCoordinate]; [tempMine setTitle:[mine mineName]]; tempMine.minesEntryNumber = [mine entryNumber]; //other code for dealing with mine types and adding the annotation to the mapview } the code works fine without the "tempMine.minesEntryNumber = [mine entryNumber];" part. It loads the map and shows the annotations. however when I try and put this in it brings up an error. So how do I add this property to each annotation and how do I access it later in a different .m file?
