    How can a dynamic programming solution for the unbounded knapsack decision problem be used to come up with a dynamic programming solution to the subset-sum decision problem? This limitation seems to render the unbounded knapsack problem useless. In the unbounded knapsack, we simply store true or false for if some subset of integers sum up to our target value. However, if we have a limit on the frequency of the use of these integers, the optimal substructure at least appears to fail. How can this be done?

I can create a text file with this information, but we need design time support as well, and it is not practical to have a connection string in every App.Config and Web.config file in the solution.     Hi, I'm currently working on a project using DSL tools in Visual Studio 2008. Is there a way to automatically add a resource into the solution explorer of the experimental hive at runtime? I'm creating new diagrams based on what is on screen, and saving them into the directory the project is stored in. I would like to know if there is a way to get them to automatically get added to the solution explorer? (I don't want to have to drag the files in manually each time)

    Hey everyone, I am working on a simple blogging type ruby on rails application and I have everything working through tinyMCE for a nice WYSIWYG editor so the user can add some simple things like images/youtube videos and lists. What I am looking for is a nice solution for blacklisting certain elements to be filtered out of the data when it is displayed.     We have a VS2005 solution and I want to convert it to VS2010. I figured an easy way to keep the old solution around (for other developers) is to create new sln and proj files specific to 2010. I hoped that the conversion wizard would do this easily but it doesn't seem to. Anyone know an easy way to copy all .sln and .csproj files, then convert to VS2010?

When I niavely just run it, the build fails because the 2008 Solution file needs to be upgraded (and presumably so would the project files). Can I tell MSBuild 2010 to just build the 2008 files?

In my experience I have never found a situation where that error wasn't caused by a flow in the program's logic. Are there cases where output buffering is actually the correct solution?

    I have a TFS 2008 Build Agent that has been used to build .Net 3.5 applications. I now have a .Net 4.0 app which i want to compile on the same build agent. I have ensured that MSBuild 4.0 is installed on there and all the required componentry is also installed, but i am getting the following MSB4062 error when building: [Any CPU/Release] C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets(244,5): error MSB4062: The "Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.GetSilverlightItemsFromProperty" task could not be loaded from the assembly C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll. Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. Confirm that the declaration is correct, and that the assembly and all its dependencies are available. I am presuming that i get this because the TFSBuild.proj gets executed by MSBuild 3.5 which in turn means my solution is compiled with MSBuild 3.5. Am i correct with my diagnosis? Is there any way to ensure that TFS2008 uses MSBuild 4.0 for my solution? Can it be done on a single team project so that it doesn't affect any other team projects being built on the same build agent? Note that i have checked the question Build failing - VS2010 solution on TFS2008 and this is not a duplicate. Thanks :)

But when trying to do so, as described in C# 4.0 in a Nutshell: The Definitive Reference, Fourth Edition, Chapter 20, each time I call Permission.Assert, an InvalidOperationException "Cannot perform CAS Asserts in Security Transparent methods" is thrown. So how is it possible to turn off transparency to be able to use CAS Asserts?

    I'm revising past midterms for a final exam this week and am trying to make sense of a solution my professor posted for one of past exams. (You can see the original pdf here, question #6). I'm given the original recurrence relation T(m)=3T(n/2) + n and am told T(1) = 1. I'm pretty sure the solution I've been given is wrong in a few places. The solution is as follows: Let n=2^m T(2^m) = 3T(2^(m-1)) + 2^m 3T(2^(m-1)) = 3^2*T(2^(m-2)) + 2^(m-1)*3 ... 3^(m-1)T(2) = T(1) + 2*3^(m-1) I'm pretty sure this last line is incorrect and they forgot to multiply T(1) by 3^m. He then (tries to) sum the expressions: T(2^m) = 1 + (2^m + 2^(m-1)*3 + ... + 2*3(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m(1 + (3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m((3/2)^m-1)*(1/2) = 1 + 3^m - 2^(m-1) = 1 + n^log 3 - n/2 Thus the algorithm is big Theta of (n^log 3). I'm pretty sure that he also got the summation wrong here. By my calculations this should be as follows: T(2^m) = 2^m + 3 * 2^(m-1) + 3^2 * 2^(m-2) + ... + 3^m (3^m because 3^m*T(1) = 3^m should be added, not 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^m) = 2^m * sum of (3/2)^i from i=0 to m = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(3/2 - 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(1/2) = 2^(m+1) * 3^(m+1)/2^(m+1) - 2^(m+1) = 3^(m+1) - 2 * 2^m Replacing n = 2^m, and from that m = log n T(n) = 3*3^(log n) - 2*n n is O(3^log n), thus the runtime is big Theta of (3^log n) Does this seem right? However, the user would pay $50 for the first time and $40 starting from next month.   • Converting VS2008 Solution to VS2010 Creates compile errors in ASP.NET 3.5 SP1

    I am converting a large solution from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. The conversion completes without errors. When I go to build the solution one particular section of the application throws error but it didn't when the solution was 2008. Error 1 Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. C:\MyProject\Results\Result.ascx 3 And C:\CMyProject\Results\Result.ascx(3): Build (web): Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. The dll is in the bin and it is not in the GAC. The .refresh file is pointing to the correct location. And all sections in the Web.Config are there, if you need to see them let me know. I have gone over the fixes I found online and nothing seems to help. I would really appreciate if someone could help me or point me in the right direction? Thank You.

We tried copying the generated apple-script code into the Apple Script editor, and here it works just fine.   • How do I add IIS Virtual Directories and arbitrary files in TFS Solution

    We have a web portal product from which we customize portals from customers. We use the precompiled web app and create a virtual directory (vd) where the customization resides. In addition to this we do some changes web.config in the web app folder. We would obviously like to keep these customizations under TFS source control. When I try to add the precompiled web app (which I don't want to add to source control), a warning tells me that the vds cannot be added. If I only add the folder that is referenced to by the vd, I lose the references to assemblies in the precompiled web app. My questions are: How do I structure a solution for adding IIS (sub application level) virtual directories and still retain the references to assemblies? Is it possible to add other directories/files from the web application level (like App_Theme, web.config etc.) to the solution? Since we already use Visual Source Safe, we have established a tree structure for each customization project: Project Root | |-Custom Sql | |-Custom Portal Files (which is added as a virtual directory) | |-Other Customizations I could probably do a lot of this manually through the source control explorer, but I'd like to have everything done through a solution. I've followed the instructions using this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb668986.aspx, but this doesn't address the exact problem that I have. Oh, and we are currently using Visual Source Safe for portal customizaton, but are eager to make the move to TFS. TIA

  • Migration solution for singletons in an OSGI environment

    I'm working in a JEE Environment in which each application is in a war file of its own. In the WEB-INF/lib of each application war file there is a common jar that is shared by all applications. This common jar contains several Singletons which are accessed from many points in the code. Because of the war-file boundaries each application has its own instances of the Singletons. Which is how we operate today, since we want to configure some of the singletons differently in each application. Now we are moving towards an OSGi environment, where this solution will no longer work since each bundle has its own class loader, so if I try to access MySingleton which resides in bundle "common.jar" from bundle "appA.jar" or from bundle "appB.jar" I will get the same instance. Remember I "want" a different instance of a singleton per bundle. (as ironic as it sounds) Now I realize the ideal solution would be to fix the code to not rely on those singletons, however due to a tight schedule I was wondering if you guys can suggest some sort of a migration solution that would allow me to use bundle-wide singletons so each of them could be configured per bundle.

But adding permissions after an AppDomain is created has no effect at all. There are no exceptions thrown (nor first-chance ones). What can it be? If the framework method (AddPermission) fails to do what it was expected to do, mustn't it throw an exception?
