    Hello, I recently made a start on learning BDD (Behaviour Driven Development) after watching a Google tech talk presented by David Astels. He made a very interesting case for using BDD and some of the literature I've read seem to highlight that it's easier to sell BDD to management. Admittedly, I'm a little skeptical about BDD after watching the above video. So, I'm interested to understand if BDD is indeed nothing more than a change in vocabulary or if it offers other benefits.

  • Does Jquery and Mootools usually have conflict if both are used on a webpage? [migrated]

    I have this website am designing, i tried using mootools 1.31 to animate some of the div boxes when clicked or when the mouse hover rounds it, to shows the content. the thing is that it doesn't seem to work on the webpage, but if i try the same script on a blank webpage it works, am thinking probably it's because i have Jquery 1.52 on the same page and maybe both scripts are conflicting with each other because, if i remove the Jquery, the Mootools works. What should be my option, because i need the Jquery to do some validations for me, so i can't remove it completely.     This questions is about what things I can do to reduce the size that Windows 8 uses. Background For example: At present and with only one programm installed (MS Access 2007) I have a about 15GB of my harddisk space used. I have little space (its a 17 GB partition on a SSD disk). I would like solutions that are like: Remove files not really needed (drivers not actually needed in the system) Help files not really needed (documentation) pagefile.sys (assuming I would have 4GB ram and no real need for swaping) hiberfil.sys (used for hibernate and sleep... I need that. though I would regain about 4GB space) At best I would like to delete mostly files that I would most likely not need. Though I have no good idea where to start there. Since my setup (hardware will not change) I would be willing to delete all the drivers that windows 8 has for hardware I do not have.... The question is about ways to reduce the space that Windows 8 uses.

    Hi, So using the regular MongoDB library in Ruby I have the following query to find average filesize across a set of 5001 documents: avg = 0 total = collection.count() Rails.logger.info "#{total} asset creation stats in the system" collection.find().each {|row| avg += (row["filesize"] * (1/total.to_f)) if row["filesize"]} Its pretty simple, so I'm trying to do the same using map/reduce as a learning exercise. This is what I came up with: map = 'function(){emit("filesizes", {size: this.filesize, num: 1});}' reduce = 'function(k, vals){ var result = {size: 0, num: 0}; for(var x in vals) { var new_total = result.num + vals[x].num; result.num = new_total result.size = result.size + (vals[x].size * (vals[x].num / new_total)); } return result; }' @results = collection.map_reduce(map, reduce) However the two queries come back with two different results! What am I doing wrong?

  • Why does my computer beep when i type <shift>-DE quickly?

    I'm writing a report on developing EJBs in Jdeveloper and every time i type "IDE" my laptop beeps twice in quick succesion. Actually, whilst typing this I've worked out that any combination of shift plus two adjacent keys, one from the row that starts qwerty and one from the row that starts asdfg will beep. It's really quite annoying. It's a hp laptop. Anyone know how I can make it stop?

    Ever since i installed windows 8, I'm unable to use Ctrl + Shift + Arrow Keys (to select words and phrases quickly in text editors) with any program. Ive found the same issue with other models of Logitech keyboards (not with any other brand, though) however, the solutions provided to those other models aren't working for me (or are impossible to complete, because of the difference in the model) If you have a possible solution, please reply!   • Big Data – Buzz Words: What is MapReduce – Day 7 of 21

    In yesterday’s blog post we learned what is Hadoop. In this article we will take a quick look at one of the four most important buzz words which goes around Big Data – MapReduce. What is MapReduce? MapReduce was designed by Google as a programming model for processing large data sets with a parallel, distributed algorithm on a cluster. Though, MapReduce was originally Google proprietary technology, it has been quite a generalized term in the recent time. MapReduce comprises a Map() and Reduce() procedures. Procedure Map() performance filtering and sorting operation on data where as procedure Reduce() performs a summary operation of the data. This model is based on modified concepts of the map and reduce functions commonly available in functional programing. The library where procedure Map() and Reduce() belongs is written in many different languages. The most popular free implementation of MapReduce is Apache Hadoop which we will explore tomorrow. Advantages of MapReduce Procedures The MapReduce Framework usually contains distributed servers and it runs various tasks in parallel to each other. There are various components which manages the communications between various nodes of the data and provides the high availability and fault tolerance. Programs written in MapReduce functional styles are automatically parallelized and executed on commodity machines. The MapReduce Framework takes care of the details of partitioning the data and executing the processes on distributed server on run time. During this process if there is any disaster the framework provides high availability and other available modes take care of the responsibility of the failed node. As you can clearly see more this entire MapReduce Frameworks provides much more than just Map() and Reduce() procedures; it provides scalability and fault tolerance as well. A typical implementation of the MapReduce Framework processes many petabytes of data and thousands of the processing machines. How do MapReduce Framework Works? A typical MapReduce Framework contains petabytes of the data and thousands of the nodes. Here is the basic explanation of the MapReduce Procedures which uses this massive commodity of the servers. Map() Procedure There is always a master node in this infrastructure which takes an input. Right after taking input master node divides it into smaller sub-inputs or sub-problems. These sub-problems are distributed to worker nodes. A worker node later processes them and does necessary analysis. Once the worker node completes the process with this sub-problem it returns it back to master node. Reduce() Procedure All the worker nodes return the answer to the sub-problem assigned to them to master node. The master node collects the answer and once again aggregate that in the form of the answer to the original big problem which was assigned master node. The MapReduce Framework does the above Map () and Reduce () procedure in the parallel and independent to each other. All the Map() procedures can run parallel to each other and once each worker node had completed their task they can send it back to master code to compile it with a single answer. This particular procedure can be very effective when it is implemented on a very large amount of data (Big Data). The MapReduce Framework has five different steps: Preparing Map() Input Executing User Provided Map() Code Shuffle Map Output to Reduce Processor Executing User Provided Reduce Code Producing the Final Output Here is the Dataflow of MapReduce Framework: Input Reader Map Function Partition Function Compare Function Reduce Function Output Writer In a future blog post of this 31 day series we will explore various components of MapReduce in Detail.   • Bash vs. Gnu screen : Replace Ctrl-A with Ctrl-Shift-A

    I'm a new user to GNU Screen. I've been using Bash for a very long time, and I want to give GNU Screen a try. As you know, GNU Screen uses 'C-a' (Control-A) as as the command character. Trouble is, this interferes with the Line Editing feature in Bash (and GNU Readline), because Control-A in Bash will Move to the start of the line." I know I can set the Command Character to another key sequence, like "^Q" or "``" (Backtick), but I have trouble finding another key sequence which isn't already in use (^Q is used by the terminal, backtick is used when writing shell scripts). It appears that the Command Character may only be one or two characters in length. Can I set the GNU Screen control character to be something like "Control-Shift-A"? (I can't use more then one hyperlink yet, so I cannot link to the Bash documentation)

  • How can I disable Ctrl+Shift+Arrow from causing my screen to flip?

    Windows 7 Home Premium, Catalyst Control Center. Without any apparent reason, after booting my PC, I got this little balloon "HD 4600 Drivers updated". I did not install any new cards or drivers or anything. But now, when I try to select an entire word by pressing Ctrl + Shift + ? / ? my screen flips left to right and upside down. Where can I disable this annoying shortcut? OR Any other way of selecting the entire word? There is no option for this in Catalyst Control Center.

  • Hue shift on youtube.com (but not when embedded!)

    This is easily the oddest problem I've yet had. When I'm on youtube, and I look at a video, the hue is all wrong. Pure red becomes pure blue, and all the other colors shift accordingly. Faces in particular are shades of blue so I call this "avatar mode". Avatar mode happens on any video I view while on youtube.com. BUT, if I view the same video when embedded, colors are fine! EDIT: OS: Gentoo Linux, happens in all browsers

  • Can I make the shift+right-click the default right-click action on tasks in the task menu?

    When I right click on a running task in my start menu I usually get 3 options: Launch a new copy of this - I don't use this Pin this program to the taskbar - I don't use this Close window - I use this. Lots. So much so that in Windows XP I used to right click and press 'c'. Which I can no longer do because while it hilights the close MenuItem, it doesn't actually invoke it. If I shift+right-click on the task, I get the old menu upon which I can just hit C. This old menu is also generally much more useful as it has many more options I use considerably more frequently. Is there a way I can make this menu pop up as the default right-click menu? This is also proving to be a real pain to google. As I'm always up for improving my goo-fu, if you do google a fix to this problem I would appreciate it if you could share the keywords/phrases used.

  • How can I reduce draw calls when using glBufferSubData and DYNAMIC_DRAW?

    At first I had the problem where I had about 150 rectangles rendered every tick. I only used STATIC_DRAW and glBufferData. I added support for DYNAMIC_DRAW and glBufferSubData and now I have a very good result... but the number of draw calls (glDrawArrays) is the same. Best practices from Mozilla Dev website said it should be reduced, but how? Every rectangle has a method render() in which I do following (shortend): _gl.bindBuffer(WebGL.ARRAY_BUFFER, vertexBuffer); _gl.enableVertexAttribArray(a_position); _gl.vertexAttribPointer(a_position, 2, WebGL.FLOAT, false, 0, 0); _gl.bufferSubData(WebGL.ARRAY_BUFFER, 0, vertices); _gl.bindBuffer(WebGL.ARRAY_BUFFER, texCoordBuffer); _gl.enableVertexAttribArray(a_texCoordLocation); _gl.vertexAttribPointer(a_texCoordLocation, 2, WebGL.FLOAT, false, 0, 0); _gl.bufferSubData(WebGL.ARRAY_BUFFER, 0, texVertices); _gl.uniform2fv(_utranslation, _translation); _gl.uniform2fv(_urotation, _rotation); _gl.uniform2f(_location, Dart2D.WIDTH, Dart2D.HEIGHT); _gl.drawArrays(WebGL.TRIANGLES, 0, 6); So every rectangle calls drawArrays in every frame...
