  I have downloaded MySQL ODBC Connector 5.1. Now am trying to setup the DSN. But am getting the error: Connection Failed : [HY000] [MySQL] [ODBC 5.1 Driver]Host '117.x.x.x' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server My server url is server.myweb.com - this name am entering in the TCP/IP Server and Port =3306. I have also entered the userid and password , which is the one which i enter when i open www.myweb.com/cpanel Is this a version problem? Should the version of MySQL on my server also be 5.1, i.e. the one of the ODBC? Please help.

• Can't establish a DB connection. (Maybe threads related)

  Hello, I am getting this exception on the Rufus::Scheduler ActiveRecord::ConnectionTimeoutError: could not obtain a database connection within 5 seconds. The max pool size is currently 30; consider increasing it. I've increased the pool from 10 to 30. And I also monkey patched the method which raises the exception to also call ActiveRecord::Base.verify_active_connections! before doing its job. And I also restarted the service which executes the script so that the new code is run. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any other info about environment or whatnot. Thank you.

• WebSocket send extra information on connection

  Is there a way for a WebSocket client to send additional information on the initial connection to the WebSocket server? I'm asking because I want the client to send the user ID (string) to the server immediately. I don't want the client to send the user ID in the onopen callback. Why? Because it's faster and simpler. If the WebSocket API won't let you do this, why not? If there's no good reason, how could I suggest they add this simple feature?

• Why can't Win7 remember my tether? New Connection Setup every time

  In Win7 when you connect to a new network you're prompted to set it as a Home, Work, or Public connection. Presumably this influences default security settings. That's all well and good, except for the part that everytime I USB tether my smartphone Win7 comes up with a new dialogue. I think I'm up to generic connection 25 or something? It's getting ridiculous. Is there anyway to get Win7 to remember the phone tether as ONE connection only?

• Can .htaccess slow down a site?

  I'm working with a client on an e-commerce website. I implemented clean URLs using .htaccess. I also used .htaccess to solve canonical issues such as redirecting www to non-www and removing index.php from the URL. The website recently began to slow down dramatically, sometimes not even loading. The site is hosted on GoDaddy, and when the client called GoDaddy they told him it was the .htaccess file slowing down the website. I find this highly unlikely because of my past experiences, but I'm not 100% sure. My thinking is that the client's website is most likely on a shared server with a busy neighborhood, thus slowing down the site. It's not always slow, but rather sporadic throughout the day, loading fast at some points and slow at other points in time. Can the .htaccess file slow down a website to a crawl? If so, are there better ways to solve these problems with different rewrite rules and such? • Usb stick too slow to benchmark?

  I have a Core 2 Duo [email protected] with 3GB RAM. After some time using XUbuntu 10.10 on an 8GB stick I decided to switch to 12.04 and put it onto a 32GB stick (Transcend). I use an EXT4 with no journalling, noatime etc set. /tmp and /run is using tmpfs. And it is REALLY slow. MUCH slower than the old Xubuntu on the 8GB stick. Starting takes minutes, all applications "fade" because they respond too slow. I first thought that the NVidia graphics card is responsible for this, because there seem to be some known problems with that. Doing the adjustment (uncheck the sync checkbox) did not help. I believe the root cause is that the access to the USB stick is extremely slow. Running the read benchmark of the disk utility then brought the message "disk is too slow to benchmark"! BUT: When I do the same benchmark with the live CD I get around 20MB read performance and have a very responsive system! So how can I find out what is going one here?

  The exception is Remoting Exception - Authentication Failure. The detailed message says "Unable to read data from the transport connection: the connection was closed." I'm having trouble with creating two simple servers that can comunicate as remote objects in C#. ServerInfo is just a class I created that holds the IP and Port and can give back the address. It works fine, as I used it before, and I've debugged it. Also the server is starting just fine, no exception is thrown, and the channel is registered without problems. I'm using Forms to do the interfaces, and call some of the methods on the server, but didn't find any problems in passing the parameters from the FormsApplication to the server when debugging. All seems fine in that chapter. public ChordServerProgram() { RemotingServices.Marshal(this, "PADIBook"); nodeInt = 0; } public void startServer() { try { serverChannel = new TcpChannel(serverInfo.Port); ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(serverChannel, true); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } } I run two instances of this program. Then startNode is called on one of the instances of the application. The port is fine, the address generated is fine as well. As you can see, I'm using the IP for localhost, since this server is just for testing purposes. public void startNode(String portStr) { IPAddress address = IPAddress.Parse("127.0.0.1"); Int32 port = Int32.Parse(portStr); serverInfo = new ServerInfo(address, port); startServer(); //node = new ChordNode(serverInfo,this); } Then, in the other istance, through the interface again, I call another startNode method, giving it a seed server to get information from. This is where it goes wrong. When it calls the method on the seedServer proxy it just got, a RemotingException is thrown, due to an authentication failure. • Dynamic connection for LINQ to SQL DataContext

  If for some reason you need to specify a specific connection string for a DataContext, you can of course pass the connection string when you initialise you DataContext object.  A common scenario could be a dev/test/stage/live connection string, but in my case its for either a live or archive database.   I however want the connection string to be handled by the DataContext, there are probably lots of different reasons someone would want to do this…but here are mine. I want the same connection string for all instances of DataContext, but I don’t know what it is yet! I prefer the clean code and ease of not using a constructor parameter. The refactoring of using a constructor parameter could be a nightmare.   So my approach is to create a new partial class for the DataContext and handle empty constructor in there. First from within the LINQ to SQL designer I changed the connection property to None.  This will remove the empty constructor code from the auto generated designer.cs file. Right click on the .dbml file, click View Code and a file and class is created for you! You’ll see the new class created in solutions explorer and the file will open. We are going to be playing with constructors so you need to add the inheritance from System.Data.Linq.DataContext public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext    {    }   Add the empty constructor and I have added a property that will get my connection string, you will have whatever logic you need to decide and get the connection string you require.  In my case I will be hitting a database, but I have omitted that code. public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext {    // Connection String Keys - stored in web.config    static string LiveConnectionStringKey = "LiveConnectionString";    static string ArchiveConnectionStringKey = "ArchiveConnectionString";      protected static string ConnectionString    {       get       {          if (DoIWantToUseTheLiveConnection) {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[LiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }          else {             return global::System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[ArchiveConnectionStringKey].ConnectionString;          }       }    }      public DataClasses1DataContext() :       base(ConnectionString, mappingSource)    {       OnCreated();    } }   Now when I new up my DataContext, I can just leave the constructor empty and my partial class will decide which one i need to use.   I have VS 2008 Professional Edition. After the installation (which included SQL Server 2008), I decided to install SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Tools (so I could get SQL Server Management Studio on it). So I uninstalled the SQL Express that came with VS 2008, and installed the standalone SQL Server Express 2008 version with advanced tools. However, When I try to logon onto SQL Server Management Studio using: .\SQLEXPRESS as Server name and Windows Authentication as the authentication, I get the following message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to .\SQLEXPRESS. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. • Do connection string DNS lookups get cached?

  Suppose the following: I have a database set up on database.mywebsite.com, which resolves to IP 111.111.1.1, running from a local DNS server on our network. I have countless ASP, ASP.NET and WinForms applications that use a connection string utilising database.mywebsite.com as the server name, all running from the internal network. Then the box running the database dies, and I switch over to a new box with an IP of 222.222.2.2. So, I update the DNS for database.mywebsite.com to point to 222.222.2.2. Will all the applications and computers running them have cached the old resolved IP address? I'm assuming they will have. Any suggestions along the lines of "don't have your IP change each time you switch box" are not too welcome as I cannot control this aspect of the situation, unfortunately. We are currently using the machine name of the box, which changes every time it dies and all apps etc. have to be updated with the new machine name. It hurts.

  Hi everyone, I have an C# form application that use an access database. This application works perfectly in debug and release. It works on all version of Windows. But it crash on one computer with Windows 7. The message I got is: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No value given for one or more required parameters. The problem is that, when I'm in office, to reach the svn repo I use an internal LAN IP (like 192.168.1.200), but when I'm home the IP is different, because I reach the server from an externel connection. • Broadcom BCM4313 wireless slow and high-latency

  Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6330 laptop. Wireless is pretty slow. It gets connected quick enough, but then it acts like a dialup connection. My ssh sessions over WiFi are slow and laggy. Even browsing is slow, the pages are loading like it's 1998. This does not depend on the access point, it's the same both at home and at work. Other systems work fine on these access points. I had an older Dell laptop before, different WiFi hardware, and it was much faster over the same wireless access points. Is this a known issue with this hardware? If so, any solutions?

• Minecraft: Slow performance OUT of the game

  I downloaded Minecraft yesterday to see what the fuss is about, brilliant game! When playing in Windowed mode, if I try and do anything else, i.e. use the computer, when the game is paused, the computer is incredibly slow, it takes a minute just to type a short message into empathy. Also, once I quit the game, the computer remains slow for about 5 minutes, until it magically frees up and becomes fast again. Could this be related to the 512mb RAM limitation of Java, and the machine is swapping? Even trying to submit this post is incredibly slow and frustrating, it's taking me a minute just to click in the 'Tag's box. Any ideas? Ubuntu 10.10 x64 Intel Q9550 4GB RAM nVidia 8800GTS 320mb (w/prop drivers installed)

• SSMS Slow To Save

  When using SSMS 2008 I found it to be really slow when trying to save a file, even a small one with just some simple SELECT statements on it. The symptoms were the flashing save disk icons in the lower right corner and selecting the location to save in the Save File dialog would hang each time I picked a location (e.g. Libraries, a folder). This was the first I had seen anything like this where it was really, really slow. It ended up that a server had died last week and I was still mapping a drive to it. SSMS was still trying to connect to it causing the slow down (further information here and here).   OK, I'm flummoxed. I'm trying to execute a query on a database (locally) and I keep getting a connection reset error. The description field is being populated from a TinyMCE textarea - I'm guessing it's chucking in some line returns, so I've tried stripping those out. However, even if I disable the TinyMCE field, the reset error still occurs. The next port of call was checking the limits on the table, since it seems to insert if the length of "description" is around the 300 mark (it varies between 310 - 330). The field limit is set to VARCHAR(1500) and the validation on this field won't allow anything past bigger than 1200 with HTML, 800 without. The real kicker is that if I take this sql string and execute it via the command line, it works fine - so I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. So, in a nutshell, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

  I have an C# form application that use an access database. This application works perfectly in debug and release. It works on all version of Windows. But it crash on one computer with Windows 7. The message I got is: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No value given for one or more required parameters. EDIT, after some debugging with messagebox on the computer that have the problem, here is the code that bug.The error is catched on the cmd.ExecuteReader(). The messagebox juste before is shown and the next one is the one in the catch with the exception below. • Our wi-fi at work is ridiculously slow, will adding more range extenders improve it?

  At work, we have two wireless networks (e.g., Work1 Work2); the Work2 is used downstairs and Work1 is used upstairs. However, both are notoriously slow. The connection is better when we are wired in, but unfortunately due to our building being very old and our company growing very fast, most employees are not seated near the walls where the ethernet cables are. I had Cox, our ISP, run a bandwidth utilization test and it doesn't seem like we are capping out on upstream/downstream, which leads me to believe that it's strictly an issue with the wireless networks (which were implemented before I got there). The wireless networks are both Apple Airport Extremes. Is there anything I can do to improve the situation for everyone? Speeds are extremely slow, and sometimes drops out.
