  • In Windows 7 Home Premium, is it possible to grant a user account the "log on as a service" right and if so, how?

    The title says it all. I need to have the ability for a local user account to log on as a service on a computer running Windows 7 Home Premium. In Windows 7 Ultimate, this is accomplished by going to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy and adding the user to the "Log on as a service" policy. In Home Premium, there is no Local Security Policy in the Control Panel. Is there another way to add the use to that policy (i.e. registry setting) or is my only recourse to upgrade the computer to Windows 7 Professional? Thanks in Advance, Ryan

Please note that the user is not an Administrator account and is not able to sudo.

    I have a dell laptop (henceforth we'll call this the server) running Windows 7 Enterprise. The server is part of my company's domain. My primary user account is a domain account. When I am at home and not connected to the domain, I prefer to connect to the server using Remote Desktop Connection from my MacBook Pro (we'll call this the client). The problem is, that if I do not physically login to the server, I am unable to connect to it using RDC from the client. I have a local administrator account on the server, and connecting to it via RDC works just fine. I had a feeling that the Mac RDC application was not giving me the full story, so I attempted the same procedure from a Windows 7 client. When trying to login, I get this message: So basically, If I logon to the server physically with my domain user and lock the computer, I can then successfully logon from the client. Otherwise, I am unable to connect.

  • Two users using the same same user profile while not in a domain.

    I have a windows server 2003 acting as a terminal server, this computer is not a member of any domain. We demo our product on the server by creating a user account. The person logs in uses the demo for a few weeks and when they are done we delete the user account. However every time we do this it creates a new folder in C:\Documents and Settings\. I know with domains you can have many users point at one profile and make it read only so all changes are dumped afterwords, but is there a way to do that when the machine is not on a domain? I would really like it if I didn't have to remote in and clean up the folders every time.

    Hi all, I'm using Win7 SP1. I've got multiple users on the laptop that can / must connect to a wireless network, lets call it Wireless1. I've got an second wireless network, (lets call it Wireless2), which I want to limit access to only the admin user of the laptop. Now I can remove Wireless2 in the network manager every time, but i want a more user friendly solution, so that only the admin can connect to Wireless2, and all the other users cannot ( they may see the network, but must enter the password, like all other networks ). Any ideas?

  • OS X: How to create a user account with access to the applications that she has installed only.

    Till now, I've been the sole and proud owner of an iMac. I've always logged in as an administrator and I've also installed a bunch of software following the standard procedure of dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. This is about to change, as sharing it with a friend makes a lot of sense now that I only have time to use the computer in the mornings, and she can only use it at nights. I thought this was going to be really easy: Just create a user account for her and that's all, I thought. Unfortunately, this is not the case. When she logins into the computer using her username and password, she has access to the same applications I've installed. Even the same applications that I setup to automatically start when I login start for her when she does. How can I setup a user that has only access to the applications that she has installed, but none of the ones installed by other users? Many thanks

  • How can I continue audio playback even after switching user?

    I just tested it with iTunes; after switching the user account (only after logging into another account, to be precise) the audio playback from the account "A" stops. However iTunes continues playing in the background; which I realized after switching back to account "A". Very frustrating because it kind-of is a deal-breaker for me; the other person should be able to have some personalized settings; while it is still my computer, and the main account has all the music obviously. The ideal solution would be audio output continuing running while user still has the ability to manually pause it... EDIT: I tested a bit more: "Desktop" apps like VLC don't output sound but continue running; the stock Music.app in Metro pauses the music and continues playing when switching back.

Any ideas how i execute a function once Wordpress has completed the whole registration process of adding meta data into the relevant tables too? I attempted to use this: add_filter('user_register ','tml_new_user_registered',99); But with no luck unfortunately. Thanks in advance!

    Hi all, Wondering if someone here can help. I have an AJAX tabcontainer which has a number of tabs and each tab contains a user control. When I add a new item from one of the tabs, it is not reflected in the user control in another tab unless a postback occurs. (e.g. the first tab has a listview where I add a new record and the second has a simple form which contains a drop-down which I expect to contain value added from first tab).     Hello I have a web application, which is using a SQL Server 2005 database. My problem is, that the application has no role management. So the application always accesses the database with one default user. But now I have to save and access a value only for the current user. Is there any way to do this? Maybe something like a session on the web server? The best way would be, if there is any possibility to access the current session id of the web server from T-SQL.     hi. dealing with php/html/javascript. i'm trying to figure out a good/best approach to allowing a user to download a file. i can have the traditional href link, that interfaces with the back end php app to download the file. however, i want to have the app display some sort of dialog/alert if the user isn't able (basedon acl/permissions) to download the file... does this have to ba an ajax thing, as i don't want to do a page refresh... thoughts/comments/pointers to code samples are appreciated. thanks. -tom

From what I gather, the iPad is using iPhone OS, but with a different screen resolution from the iPhone/iPod touch. So suddenly, the assumption that iPhone OS = iPhone screen resolution becomes false. Sounds like many sites may have to revise their user-agent - css mapping.     Hi, In my project I going to generate a user interface through programming. Scalability of this UI is very important requirement. So far I am using two dimensional graphics for generating the UI. I think there may be different solutions but for the moment I know only two. First one is supplying X,Y coordinates of each two dimensional graphic on my UI.(I do not prefer this solution because I do not want to calculate X,Y coordinates of each graphic. For the moment I don't have a logic for doing this easily) Second one(which is currently I am using now) is using layouts which organizes its contents according to size of item. In this solution I don't have to calculate X,Y coordinates of each item.(Layout is doing this for me) But this approach may have its own pitfalls. I am very new to user interface programming. Can you give me advice about this issue?

    Hi, I’m farely new to Wordpress but are working on putting a page together which has a very simple purpose. I’m creating it for a customer with little or none IT experience so I want to create a user he can use to login and edit his pages – and nothing more. No settings, no comments, no posts, no links, no nothing, just create, delete and edit pages and maybe edit his own profile or at least his E-mail and password. I can see that wordpress has some predefined roles for users but none of them completely does what I want and they either has to little or to many rights. I’ve been looking at the wordpress page http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities but can’t seem to get a clear answer.   • How to let an average user design a boolean expression graphically

    In our application there's a list of customers, and a list of keywords (among other things). Each customer can have a number of keywords, but it's not mandatory. So for instance, one customer can have the keywords "retail" and "chain", one can have only "contractor" and a third can have none at all. I want to let the user make a selection of customers based on these keywords, but not having to write (retail AND chain) or contractor and not wholesale I would like to make it as user-friendly as possible, and ideally with only "simple" controls, like checkboxes, comboboxes etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to design this? Or maybe some examples of applications where there are similar functionality?
