• How To Change Window Transparency in Windows 7 with a Hotkey

  Linux has a lot of eye-candy because of Compiz, my favorite of which is the window opacity plugin. Using a short AutoHotKey script, you can add that same functionality to Windows 7. I used this AHK script as a basis for changing opacity. It uses a single hotkey to change the active window’s transparency by 25% each time until it resets to 0. I wanted functionality similar to Compiz, so I modified the script to use the mouse wheel and shortened the increments to get more variety. Just hold down the Windows key and scroll down to see through the window. This decreases opacity and makes windows more transparent. Forgot to write down the message, but how I know there was a virus was because my wallpaper was changed to "You have been hacked" or something like that. I've tried reinstalling the OS several times but that doesn't seem to help. Somehow the virus still seems to be there.   There’s no need to settle for overly simplistic file renaming tools as long as Bulk Rename Tool is around. It’s lightweight, insanely customizable, portable, and sure to make short work of any renaming task you throw at it. Bulk Rename Tool is a great portable application (available as an installed version if you crave context menu integration) that blasts through file renaming tasks. The main panel is intimidatingly packed with toggles and variables you can alter; this isn’t a one-click solution by any means. That said, once you get comfortable using the interface it’s lightening fast and extremely flexible. One tip that will save you an enormous amount of frustrating when you get started: make sure to highlight the files you want to change in the file preview window (located in the upper right corner) or else you won’t see the preview and won’t know if the changes you’re making in the control panel are yielding the file names you desire. • Unity not running on startup

  OK, so Firefox was running extremely slow, I ran it in safe mode and still slow, so I rebooted and when she came back on, I wasn't at the regular Unity login, it was like a classic Windows login (where I had to enter my username and password manually, not a list of users). I logged in and only my desktop was visible (with icons and my wallpaper). Nothing else. I was able to open a terminal with Ctrl+ Alt+T and typed... sudo unity ...which got it up (albeit with the default icons on the launcher ex. I had unlocked Libre Office and it was back). In "Startup Applications..." there was absolutely nothing at all... This happens every time I reboot. Thunderbird de-synced from my Gmail but Pidgin is still connected. When I do Ctrl+Alt+L it locks the screen as normal, but I have no option to switch user. I have the only account on this computer but I cannot access the main login screen to get to my Guest account. I'm not very Ubuntu-savy, but it's pretty clear that I'm starting in some sort of safemode. I am on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (just installed it last night).
