  • Could not connect to wireless unitl reboot (nl80211)

    - by user107410
    I'm using Samsung NP900X3C. I have problem with occasionally connecting to WIFI, with Ubuntu 12.10. Sometimes my computer could not connect to WIFI "blab", neither after reboot computer. Only solution is to restart WIFI hotspot. It's public WIFI, used by many users, that don't have that problem. My /var/log/syslog: Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: SME: Trying to authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 kernel: [ 8.908610] wlan0: authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: scanning -> authenticating Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 kernel: [ 8.915032] wlan0: send auth to 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (try 1/3) Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: Trying to associate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 kernel: [ 8.916753] wlan0: authenticated Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 kernel: [ 8.916839] wlan0: waiting for beacon from 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: authenticating -> associating Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: associating -> disconnected Nov 12 10:09:39 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: disconnected -> scanning Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: SME: Trying to authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 kernel: [ 12.386212] wlan0: authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: Trying to associate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 kernel: [ 12.389114] wlan0: send auth to 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (try 1/3) Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 kernel: [ 12.391021] wlan0: authenticated Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: scanning -> authenticating Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 kernel: [ 12.391332] wlan0: waiting for beacon from 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:09:42 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: authenticating -> associating Nov 12 10:09:43 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: associating -> disconnected Nov 12 10:09:43 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: disconnected -> scanning Nov 12 10:09:46 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: SME: Trying to authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) and after restart WiFi, I could connect: Nov 12 10:11:51 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: inactive -> scanning Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: SME: Trying to authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.445154] wlan0: authenticate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.453994] wlan0: send auth to 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (try 1/3) Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: Trying to associate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (SSID='blab' freq=2427 MHz) Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: scanning -> authenticating Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.455860] wlan0: authenticated Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.458681] wlan0: associate with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (try 1/3) Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: authenticating -> associating Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.462799] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 (capab=0x431 status=0 aid=9) Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.486368] wlan0: associated Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 wpa_supplicant[1308]: wlan0: Associated with 64:70:02:89:7c:d7 Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 kernel: [ 144.487435] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: associating -> associated Nov 12 10:11:55 k15 NetworkManager[1004]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant interface state: associated -> 4-way handshake This problem is appearing regulary.   • Installer says I'd need a wireless firmware, but WLAN works without it out of the box

    - by unor
While installing 12.04.01 (Alternate) on a netbook (Samsung N150Plus), Ubuntu informed me that I'd need the firmware brcm/bcm43xx-0.fw. I skipped this step. If I understand this page correctly, the mentioned firmware is a WLAN driver. However, after the Ubuntu installation was completed, the WLAN worked out of the box. After a few minutes, Ubuntu informed me that there is a firmware update available, which would be the mentioned firmware. Do I need to install this? Is Ubuntu using some kind of "lite" WLAN driver and I might run into problems with certain networks in the future, if I don't use the firmware? Would there be benefits in using the firmware? (maybe longer runtime because of lower consumption?)

  • How can I install wireless drivers without internet?

    - by Ruben
[Ubuntu 12.04 LTS] I have a HP Pavilion dv6 and I need a Broadcom driver (closed source) to access the internet. However, I need to download that, which I am unable to do because I do not have internet access. My ethernet port has always been broken and I have not been able to access the internet since I installed Ubuntu. I need to find a way for me to install those drivers desperately. I still have Ubuntu on my USB, which for some reason, did have the ability to install that driver (I think it's due to the fact that it already has it somewhere in the files). On my USB Ubuntu, I have that particular driver installed. I was thinking that if one of you knows where drivers are installed, I could locate those files on the USB Ubuntu, then plug in an additional USB to copy them; restart my computer to the harddrive Ubuntu and then install the files from the (additional) USB. I would really appreciate help since to me a computer without internet is useless.

  • Broadcom 4365 wireless driver with 3.4 / 3.5 kernel

    - by zaid
I used this package to install the driver on 3.2 Kernel and it was working perfectly. Unfortunately the system used to freeze randomly with 3.2 kernel so I installed 3.4 kernel, now there is no freezing, the only problem is that my wifi card is not working, I tried to re-install the package, but didn't work. I can see the driver in the "additional drivers" and it say that it is active, but when I execute iwconfig it doesn't show up. I've even tried ndiswraper and that didn't work either. my lspci: 01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4365 (rev 01)

  • How to troubleshoot a wireless networking regression?

    - by fluteflute
I've been experiencing this perhaps slightly odd bug. It works flawlessly in Lucid, but not in Maverick and Natty. I find it seems to work when I'm booting a partition everyday (as I do for my main 10.10 partition) but for my 11.04 testing partition it's a real pain - usually refusing to connect. So given that I have both a working (10.04) and not-working (10.10 and 11.04) installs, how can I troubleshoot my problem?

  • Cisco Linksys AE2500 wireless adapter not working

    - by makuto
I have a Cisco AE2500 I've used with my laptop to get internet. I had to install the drivers by following this forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1805830 But now the blue light on the adapter doesn't turn on at all, but ndiswrapper reports it is connected. I have no connection to the internet on my laptop, and the adapter doesn't show it's blue light on any of the USB ports of my computer or on the 4 port hub I have. Is there some way I can reset something so that the blue light will show again? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell Latitude D505 laptop. EDIT: I deleted and reinstalled the same exact driver and everything worked again.

  • Wireless USB Adapter driver configuration

    - by Jones
First I would like agree one thing that this is fully for Ubuntu, not for BackTrack. However I'm posting my BackTrack question here since I find similar problems in backtrack forum are being unanswered and Linux/Unix site of StackExchange has very low attraction. I'm having USB wifi adapter (iBall Baton), having chipset RTL8191SU. It displays available wifi networks in Wicd manager. But while trying to connect it gives me bad password. When I'm trying to run airmon-ng it didn't returned me the monitor mode. I tried to replace with Ubuntu 12.10 drivers. But it totally nulled the device functionality. However I restored the drivers. I'm interested to compile drivers as if anyone indicate the methods. Awaiting ideas!

  • Really slow wireless internet on 12.04 with HP dv6 6070ca

    - by Joe
I was recently running the previous version of Ubuntu through Wine, and everything was working great. I decided to upgrade to pangolin when I saw it came out. After upgrading the internet was very slow (the estimated time on the updates was something like 4 days). I thought maybe this had something to do with the Wine installation, so I decided to finally do an actual dual boot. I partitioned my drive all nice and neat, but I made the mistake of connecting to the internet for the installation, and clicking the option to install updates and restricted extras. This was in the morning, circa 6 am. Fast forward to the evening, the installation is frozen at around 75%. In frustration I gave the ol girl a hard shut-down, which effectively rendered my machine useless. I used the thumb drive to reinstall Ubuntu, this time without connecting to the internet. Installed nice and easy, no problems, but the internet is still ridiculously slow. It took me about 20 minutes of frustration and hitting stop and reload repeatedly to even get this question page to open. This is important to me as now Windows won't even boot and I have to use ubuntu for the time being but I can't even bear to turn on my laptop due to the frustration that immediately ensues. Please help! Oh, and I'm relatively new so if there are some terminal commands that spew out info you guys would find useful let me know what they are and I'll post back the information.

  • Pppoe wireless connection, Ubuntu 12.4

    - by Barbara
I recently bought a new computer (Asus 1015 cx) with Ubuntu (12.4) as preinstalled system. My problem is with the internet. The computer connects just fine to the free wifi we have at home, but in college, we have a little bit different system. There is wifi, but it is not free - everyone receives a user name and a password. I cant manage to estabilish this Pppoe connection - the computer "sees" where can it connect, but I dont know where to write my username and password. It is not the DSL connection, what I have already tried. Can you help me?

  • 12.10 Wireless networking

    - by user108594
I downloaded ubuntu 12.10 using WUBI and cannot connect to the internet. I removed it and downloaded ubuntu 12.04 still cannot connect. This I assume rules out the program being the problem. I reinstalled 12.10. When loaded I get the same message W/red (x) stating Internet not connected. I went to the Settings drop down box and it does not reveal the network list but (enable networking has a ck mark). Am running a HP Laptop with a w/7/64 OS that has a kill switch that indicates (orangeno connection) I downloaded 12.10 on my desktop (on the same network) and everything OK. I tried to follow the instructions in the help menu but got lost and confused . Sincerely Dan Additional Info per request Broadcom 802.11b/g Wlan Internal pc [hp laptop] P.S. I've been out of town for about a month. TKS for your gitback I did install 12.10 via cd and everything ok,but retried alongside 7 and unable to connect to internet, also took laptop and hard wired using ethernet cable and everything ok. stumped again and running out of ideas!!!

  • Getting wireless to work on Ubuntu 11.10 (on a mac machine)

    - by yayu
I have a 2008 white 13.3 inch macbook that now solely runs ubuntu. However, I cannot get wifi or cable to work on it. Regarding the cable, it atleast tries to connect but eventually disconnects from the wired network. Here is the output for lspci (pastebin) I tried installing b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43 but get errors. (I loaded them from a thumb drive and tried sudo dpkg -i). I cannot understand these instructions from the documentation, as I cannot locate the pool directory. b43-fwcutter is located on the Ubuntu install media under ../pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/ and patch is located under ../pool/main/p/patch/ or both in the official repositories online. Note: In some versions (10.04 and 11.04 at least) there is not a /pool/main/p/patch/ If this file is missing then you don't need it. In this case you only need to install /pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter by following the instructions below.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 - no wireless network recognized

    - by Itai
I just installed Ubntu 12.04 along with WIN7 on the same laptop - Dell Vostro-3560. Now, on Win7 i can access to different wi-fi networks. However, when i am logging onto the Ubuntu section (after re-starting my laptop) - an error message appears: "Disconnected - you are now offline". When i take a look at my network menu (in the upper bar on the screen), i see that no network is found (and i have a few of them in the area...). I tried to look around but really could not find a concrete practical solution to this specific problem, would appreciate any solution from anyone out there that had this problem and solved it. Thanks... Itai

  • Lubuntu 13.10 - Laptop Loses wireless after sleep

    - by user206217
I'm running Lubunu 13.10 on an hp G62 - I'm new to Lubuntu having used ubuntu previously, but I've made the switch as my laptop is now getting toward the lower end of acceptability, and I'm delighted with how well it runs. Anyway, I'm having an issue that if I close the lid of the laptop it won't reconnect to the wi-fi when I open it again, and I'm not sure how to even force it to scan for a network - I have to restart it at the moment - and then it always connects perfectly. The router is a BT Business Hub 405. Any help much appreciated - thank you.

I tryed using a different network adaptor but that didn't help either. Please, some one help me with this. friendly regards, Maikel

  • ASUS VX-6 Laptop Wireless not connecting

    - by user2152790
Someone posted a script a couple days ago, here is my output.Pastebin I can see wifi SSIDs in network, but cannot connect to mine. The only time wifi worked on 13.10 was in the Live CD, but wifi stopped working as soon as install process started. Did below but made no difference. sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source sudo modprobe -rv brcmsmac sudo modprobe -v wl What I do next? I tried Software&Updates and it showed 1 proprietary driver in use. This sounds like a WPA/WPA2 issue? Wifi works when I tried Zorin OS 7.1, wifi always worked in windows 7.

  • Linux does not connect to wireless network under Hyper-V with Windows 8

    - by Graznarak
I have a VM I am trying to run under Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro. I am using an Asus PDE-N15 adapter on the host machine. When I run Windows 8 in the VM it connects to the network and everything works. When I use Linux (Ubuntu 13.04 32-bit, Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit, Fedora, CentOS) it will not connect to the network. When I run ifconfig I see the adapter show up as eth0 with the correct HWaddr. I see that TX bytes 0, and RX bytes == 0. Could anyone help me figure out how to get this to work?

  • Wireless router that supports Bonjour between wire- and wireless- connected machines

    - by cefstat
At home I have an ADSL modem that I use also as router. For the record, it is a DavoLink DV-2020 provided by Tele2 in the Netherlands. It turns out that if a computer is connected with a cable to the router and another computer is connected wirelessly, then they cannot see each other's services that are advertised through Bonjour (Apple's service discovery protocol, an implementation of Zeroconf). The combinations wired/wired and wireless/wireless work fine. This means that somehow wire- and wireless- connected machines are on different physical networks although their IPs are in the same range (192.168.1.*). The modem in question doesn't provide many options that I could play with. So, I was thinking of buying a second router to connect to the modem, and then connect all my machines to this second router. The problem is that I am afraid that I will have again the same problem. I am looking for suggestions on routers that offer the functionality I want (Bonjour between wired and wireless connections). I suppose that one solution would be Apple's Airport Extreme Base Station but at 160€ it is ridiculously expensive. Any other options out there? And why is it so difficult to find in the technical characteristics if wired and wireless connections are on the same physical network?

    I'm unable to ping another host over a bridge I created, I can't see the error -.- It's a remote machine running debian stable with some backports for which I want to set up DHCP on the new Subnet 172.30.xxx.xxx to be used for KVM-Guests. ifconfig : bond0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr e4:11:5b:d4:94:30 inet addr:10.54.2.84 Bcast:10.54.2.127 Mask:255.255.255.192 inet6 addr: fe80::e611:5bff:fed4:9430/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MASTER MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:34277 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:18379 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2638709 (2.5 MiB) TX bytes:2887894 (2.7 MiB) br0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr f2:fc:4d:7f:15:f0 inet addr:172.30.254.66 Bcast:172.30.254.127 Mask:255.255.255.192 inet6 addr: fe80::f0fc:4dff:fe7f:15f0/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:252 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:10800 (10.5 KiB) Pings : ping -I br0 172.30.xxx.65 PING 172.30.xxx.65 (172.30.xxx.65) from 172.30.xxx.66 br0: 56(84) bytes of data. --- 172.30.xxx.65 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 2017ms ping -I bond0 172.30.254.65 PING 172.30.xxx.65 (172.30.xxx.65) from 10.54.2.84 bond0: 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 172.30.x.65: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=0.599 ms 64 bytes from 172.30.x.65: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.575 ms 64 bytes from 172.30.x.65: icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=0.565 ms --- 172.30.x.65 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.565/0.579/0.599/0.031 ms Route : Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 172.30.x.64 * 255.255.255.192 U 0 0 0 br0 10.54.x.64 * 255.255.255.192 U 0 0 0 bond0 default 10.54.x.65 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 bond0 default 172.30.x.65 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 br0 The Interface : cat /etc/network/interfaces auto lo br0 iface lo inet loopback # Bonding Interface auto bond0 iface bond0 inet static address 10.54.x.84 netmask 255.255.255.192 network 10.54.x.64 gateway 10.54.x.65 slaves eth0 eth1 bond_mode active-backup bond_miimon 100 bond_downdelay 200 bond_updelay 200 iface br0 inet static bridge_ports bond0 address 172.30.x.66 broadcast 172.30.x.127 netmask 255.255.x.192 gateway 172.30.x.65 bridge_maxwait 0 If you need more info please ask.   • Windows 8 unable to connect to WPA2 AES Wireless Network

    - by user170193
I'm running Windows 8 and am unable to connect to my home wireless network. I've tried restarting the router, patching the drivers to the next version, patching the drivers to the last version, running windows update and patching the chipset drivers to the latest version. So far nothing has worked. My computer can get on the internet via USB tethering on my phone or an open WiFi connection, but it is unable to connect to my home WPA2 AES secured wireless network. It sees the network, attempts to connect, gets a limited connection and then drops the connection. All the other wireless devices in my household have no problems. I have the new Dell XPS 12, running Windows 8 using an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless adapter. I've refreshed windows twice now to try different driver configurations. I've tried uninstalling all the Dell software, I've tried uninstalling all the Intel software and reinstalling just the drivers. I've tried turning switching the ability for the Wireless driver to turn the computer off or on. I've tried setting up the connection manually from desktop mode. I've tried switching it on and off using the wireless button on the keyboard and in the software. So far nothing has allowed me to connect to the secured network. It just keeps getting a limited connection, dropping the connection and retrying. It's driving me crazy, any ideas, anything I missed? Thanks.

  • Wireless keeps shutting off in Windows 7

    - by Nathan Adams
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit installed on a Dell Latitude XT Tablet and for the life of me I can't figure out this really weird problem. The symptom is that the Wireless will disconnect from the AP and if I tell it to scan again, it says there are no APs in the area. I do have another wireless card in the laptop and if I disable the first one and enable the second, I am able to get onto the wireless however if I want to use the first card again I have to restart. I tried enabling/disabling the device, nothing will kick start the wireless again in the first card without a restart. I even tried different drivers. So, it seems it is random but it does occur more often when there is increased network activity (ie downloading a large file). The laptop doesn't seem to be overheating. I have tried the following: Under "Change Advanced Power Settings" for the current power profile, I set the "Wireless Adapter settings" to "Maximum Performance". Under device manger, I went to the card in question, and went to the advanced tab and set the "Power Saving mode" to "MAX_PSP" Both cards I have seem to exhibit the behavior after awhile. Both models of those cards are: Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card Gigabyte GN-WS30N 802.11n mini WLAN Card Has anyone have any ideas or ran into this before?
