IIS 7.5 error 500 in fastcgi module after upgrading wordpress to 3.0.2

I am running multiple wordpress blogs on the following setup: Server 2008 R2; IIS 7.5; PHP 5.3.3; MySQL 5.0.7; I upgraded my wordpress install from 2.9.2 to 3.0.2 (on 2 different sites) today and the upgrade went fine. I can serve .php pages without errors, log into the admin system etc. I can browse my blog by going directly to mywebsite.com/index.php, but when I try to go to mywebsite.com (without the index.php) I get he below 500 error. I reset IIS, removed and re-attached the default document, but I am running out of ideas. Please if anyone has a solution for this that would be great. One server running Django (with Nginx and Apache) and Wordpress Blog

I have nginx listening to port 80 for my primary site foo.com. Running WordPress and Ghost on Apache with mod_proxy

I currently have three WordPress sites hosted on Apache with virtual host files to direct the right domain to the right DocumentRoot. Ghost (node.js) just came out and I've wanted to tinker with it and just play around on one of my spare domains. I'm not really interested in moving over to nginx so I'm trying to get Ghost working on Apache via mod_proxy. I've managed to get Ghost working on my spare domain, but I think there's a problem with my virtual host files, as all of my other domains start pointing to Ghost as well. Here are two virtual host files, one for my main WordPress site that works fine, and the second for Ghost. Domains removed and replaced with DOMAIN and DOMAIN2. Dedicated virtual setup is slow with WordPress

Hey. I'm running a Fedora linux server on the Amazon EC2 platform. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my configuration as it seems to be very slow. SSH sometimes takes over 30 seconds to connect, a WordPress generated web page could take 5 seconds to load, and it could take 20 seconds to load, which is pretty awkward. MySQL queries are all executed in less than a second, so I don't think that's the case. I'm not really sure where the issue lies, but a simple page written in PHP loads instantly. A fresh WordPress installation starts lagging. Same works perfect on grid hosting at MediaTemple for instance, so I'm pretty sure I missed something. If you could please direct me to the right tools and articles which would help me out. Thanks so much! Fedora Core 8, php 5.2.6, MySQL 5.0.45, OpenSSH 4.7p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8b. PHP is configured as a module to Apache 2.2.9, all websites based on virtual hosts. I have some on-going php scripts running from time to time in the background via cron. Thanks.

Move the uploads folder in Wordpress

Currently, my Wordpress' upload folder is located in \wp-content\uploads. Initially there was no structure so all files were put there. After a while it was changed to upload the files in \wp-content\uploads\YEAR\MONTH. Now that folder contains a mix of files (those starting with + are folders) like: +wp-content | +2010 | | +02 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | | +01 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | +2009 | | +12 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | | +11 | | | File-1 | | | File-2 | | | .. | | | File-n | +.. | | | .. | Unstructured-file-1 | Unstructured-file-2 | ... | Unstructured-file-n Based on the dates of the unstructured files, I would like to move them in a structured hierarchy (based on date, move it to a folder \wp-content\uploads\YEAR\MONTH). Now, my questions are: Where do I write and execute a script to the movement (I don't have full access to the server, just to a cPanel and to the Wordpress Admin page)? What must be updated so that the links in posts, that reference the unstructured files, point to the new location of those files? Not fully related to the previous description: is it alright to move the whole uploads folder to another location, like \uploads? PS: Moving the files/updating the database manually is not an option :)

Ok, so I've made a site template in pure html and I need to convert it into wordpress. Notice also how I have a span inside each li element. Is there a way to reproduce this in my wordpress theme without just manually copying this into it?

"Server not found" errors all over after Wordpress installation

I uploaded my Wordpress blog from my local machine to Slicehost and then pointed the domain name to the IP address. Then I installed the blog as normal. Once I went to wp-login.php to login, though, I started getting "Server not found" errors. That was strange because the server process was still running, and I checked many times. I can't see anything wrong in the error log, or the access log either. This doesn't only affect Wordpress. I can't access phpmyadmin either now, which was mapped to a subdirectory of the same domain address. What is going on? Can anyone help? Edit: the blog is located on a subdomain. It's still accessible from IP address. The virtual host configs are ServerName and ServerAlias, both set to blog.mysite.com. When I changed those and restarted apache, phpmyadmin came back. Edit: also it's not a propagation issue because I installed the blog from the domain name. It's only when I tried to log into the admin section, I started getting these errors.

Wordpress.. Is it a CMS?

I recently was contacted by a client who simply wanted to increase their organic rankings in Google. My approach was to do the following: A) Take them off of their overpriced host and move them to a nicer, cheaper, more feature-rich hosting solution which included a simple Wordpress install. B) Apply a theme to WordPress which followed the look and feel of their existing website. C) Train my client on how to login to their copy of Wordpress and create/manage pages/posts. This took me very little time.. Most of the work in converting asp forms into php and tweaking a theme to fit their design. Now my client is able to create/manage as many pages or posts as they desire. I believe, for this purpose, Worpress was the easiest solution. Would you categorize Wordpress as a CMS? Are eCommerce platforms worth it for large scale systems?

My company and I are building a new system for a relatively large client. We are going to be replacing their entire system, which includes some eCommerce aspects to it among many other things. It is not a typical public shopping site, and there are many things about the system (both back end and front end) that are quite different. Some of the people I work for are convinced that we should be using a third party product to implement the eCommerce pieces (shopping cart, catalog management). Their opinion is that it is a solved problem, and we shouldn't have to reinvent it. Given that direction, I have reviewed around ten different .NET based eCommerce platforms, and I struggle to imagine how we will be able to smoothly integrate any of them without a lot of friction. They are so all-encompassing that I feel like they are probably better suited for implementing simple shopping sites rather than larger systems that happen to have some eCommerce aspects to them. We have a really nice architecture planned for everything else (Entity Framework, ASP.NET MVC, etc.), and my gut is telling me that trying to introduce a third party platform will cause unnecessary fragmentation and difficulty. I would love to hear some opinions from people who have been there. Have you used a third party platform for eCommerce? Was it a typical shopping site or something different? Did you feel it was a help or a hinderance? Thanks.

setting write permissions on theme subdirectory?

I've a theme which supports multiple templates, each with a header background image whose color can be set by the site owner via a colorpicker widget in my theme's options panel. This has the effect of opening the background image, recoloring it and resaving it back to the server. I've had zero issues with this routine until recently when a customer installed the theme on a web host whose default read/write permissions are apparently much more restrictive than the norm. In this case, the user was unable to alter the colors of the template images because of the permissions settings. I'm looking for a bit of understanding on what the permissions would need to be (assuming I purposefully set them via script) to allow the logged in wordpress user to write to files under my theme's styles directory. Ambiance GTK theme customisation *just* for one user

Is it possible to customise the appearance of the Ambiance theme just for one user? I have read about the possibility of doing this: sudo vim /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc but could something be done to change: just one setting for just one user? Perhaps changing something in the user's .themes directory? Notice: I would prefer not to copy the full theme to the user directory, just to provide an override mechanism after the "global" theme is applied, independently from the theme if possible, but anyway just specifying what needs to be different, not duplicating the whole theme definition.

Simplest way to host a domain name just so i can forward it to a wordpress blog?

Hi all. I have a domain name, and a wordpress account. The domain name isn't hosted anywhere at the moment. I just want to set it up so that my wordpress blog uses the domain. According to the wordpress help page on this issue, i have to do the following: Update your domain’s name servers to the following. Make sure to remove any existing name servers that are already there. NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM So, this is the only thing that i need a server for - if i even need a server at all? Is there a really simple way i can do this for free? Or for very cheap? I'm a bit ignorant about this stuff: i do rails coding but don't get involved in the really technical stuff to do with servers and dns and what have you.

I just started a coding related wordpress bog to basicly discuss topics and store code snippets in. I installed a code syntax highlighter plugin which is very nice but I am having a problem. I just tried posting my first code related blog post and wordpress seems to only post some of my code and then it makes some of it not show, like it filters some of it out even though I am wrapping it in tags like this.. <pre class="brush:php"> <?PHP my code ?> </pre> Some of my code works and some gets filtered out somehow. I know this is possible as many wordpress coding sites show source code. Do I need to modify something to make it work in wordpress? UPDATE I have confirmed that it does save ALL my code into the database it just filters it out when it try to print to screen, so when I go in to edit the post and textbox populates with ALL the source code intact

I'm a complete newbie to Nginx, so much so that I followed a online guide to do most of my server setup. I'm trying to learn but I'm still a ways away from understanding it all. So what I'm trying to create is a link shortener that redirects (example.com/x) to (example.com/short.php?id=x). Keep in mind that I'm also running a Wordpress blog on the same domain and plan on using the redirects/shortening for external links. Hi, I’m farely new to Wordpress but are working on putting a page together which has a very simple purpose. I’m creating it for a customer with little or none IT experience so I want to create a user he can use to login and edit his pages – and nothing more. No settings, no comments, no posts, no links, no nothing, just create, delete and edit pages and maybe edit his own profile or at least his E-mail and password. I can see that wordpress has some predefined roles for users but none of them completely does what I want and they either has to little or to many rights. I’ve been looking at the wordpress page http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities but can’t seem to get a clear answer. Is it in any way possible for me to create my own user role (e.g. customer) where I can set the rights I want for him? Thanks Sincerely Mestika

wordpress custom post type

So I've just made a custom post type for my wordpress theme named "Products". When I create a new post in it and view it, the link is something like this: "http://localhost/wordpress/product/a-product-title" This page views as expected but when I try to go to the supposed parent page: "http://localhost/wordpress/product/" I get a 404 error page. Is there a special template I need to make to view this page? Thanks

I already know quite a bit about Wordpress,CSS, & JS but I was always a lone wolf without any guidance that's why I was wondering where I could find someone (trustworthy) to do something like this and how much he should charge me. It's pure about the code (the PHP, JS & the CSS) I would like to have a review on about (nothing design related). Hi friends, I built a website with CodeIgniter last year www.example.com, and client wanted Wordpress Blog last week. I built the blog and uploaded to www.example.com/blog Now when I click any link on wordpress it gives error as below :/ http://www.example.com/blog/category/one-last-category/ An Error Was Encountered Unable to load your default controller. Please make sure the controller specified in your Routes.php file is valid. How can I set Codeigniter to ignore Wordpress folder? Appreciate helps!!!

Wordpress database migration

Hi Everyone! I've looked around the Wordpress forums about this and didn't find anything so I thought I might try here. If you have a staging/dev Wordpress setup used for testing new pluging and such, how do you go about migrating the data in the staging database back to the production database? Is there a "Wordpress best practices" way to do this, or am I limited to having to manually migrate tables from one database to the other?
