  • how can I parse and group/do stats on user agent strings?

    I have a database that has the various user-agent strings of visitors to our site. I'd like to do a 'survey' of them to see what browsers our users are using, so that I can know what features I can use in future development. Is there a tool to parse and run statistics on user-agent strings, or a bunch of strings like this? Ideally, I'd like to see a hierarchical grouping of the stats. For instance: Opera/9.80 (Windows Mobile; WCE; Opera Mobi/WMD-50301; U; en) Presto/2.4.13 Version/10.00 Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.14912/1280; U; en) Presto/2.2.0 Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.13918/812; U; en) Presto/2.2.0 Opera/9.64 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 Opera/9.60 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.13918/786; U; en) Presto/2.2.0 Opera/9.60 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.10992/432; U; en) Presto/2.2.0 I'd like to see 6 entries for Opera, broken down into 3 for 9.80, 1 for 9.64 and 2 for 9.60, and so forth for all browsers.     I want to keep SSH debug info separate (and logged) from other input. However, if I simply redirect stderr to a log file, I risk combining output from SSH and output from the remote process on the host machine (that might send something to stderr): $ ssh -v somemachine 2 file.log So, I want to filter out only those lines that match "debug1": $ ssh -v somemachine | awk '/debug1/ {print "file.log"; next} {print}' Good so far, BUT ssh's debug output goes to stderr. So... $ ssh -v somemachine 2& | awk '/debug1/ {print "file.log"; next} {print}' Foiled again! I don't want to mix stdout and stderr. BAD! What does a kid like me do? I was about to go the route of named pipes or some such wildeness, but really, all I need to know is how to get awk to match patterns from stderr ONLY.

    Say we have a UTF-8 string $s and we need to shorten it so it can be stored in N bytes. Blindly truncating it to N bytes could mess it up. But decoding it to find the character boundaries is a drag. Is there a tidy way? [Edit 20100414] In addition to S.Mark’s answer: mb_strcut(), I recently found another function to do the job: grapheme_extract($s, $n, GRAPHEME_EXTR_MAXBYTES); from the intl extension. Since intl is an ICU wrapper, I have a lot of confidence in it.

    Given a string named line whose raw version has this value: \rRAWSTRING how can I detect if it has the escape character \r? What I've tried is: if repr(line).startswith('\r'): blah... but it doesn't catch it. I also tried find, such as: if repr(line).find('\r') != -1: blah doesn't work either. What am I missing? thx! EDIT: thanks for all the replies and the corrections re terminolgy and sorry for the confusion. OK, if i do this print repr(line) then what it prints is: '\rSET ENABLE ACK\n' (including the single quotes). i have tried all the suggestions, including: line.startswith(r'\r') line.startswith('\\r') each of which returns False. also tried: line.find(r'\r') line.find('\\r') each of which returns -1

  • Find a name in a list if the name is spelt wrong

    I've got a list of names which some code checks against to see if the person exists, and if so do some stuff.. My issue is that I want to handle the case of the name being entered incorrectly.. I.e. I have a list of names Bob Frank Tom Tim John If I type in Joohn, I want it to ask me if I meant John. If I type Tm, I get asked if I meant Tim, if I say no, it asks if i meant Tom.. Etc.. Has anyone done something like this before?

Pyparsing looked like a better answer but i haven't found a way to declare all the grammars. Currently, i am using my old Perl script to parse it, but i want this written in Python. if you need my Perl snippet i will be glad to provide it. Any help is appreciated.

    I've recently applied for an Amazon affiliate program (which was accepted) as I'm planning on advertising books I read, on my website. Before going live with my website, I would like to: 1 -test the whole affiliate program to make sure it's working properly. 2 -buy the books I will review and promote on my website under my own affiliate program in order to get some cash back and therefore save money. To do so, I thought about setting up a simple HTML page (on the actual domain I applied for) which will just list the products I will buy before going live. That way I test, get some cash back, and don't expose my website (Brand, content...) before going live. Can I do this without having my account suspended by Amazon (i.e. won't Amazon think I only applied to the program to get some cash back, will Amazon be happy with receiving affiliate traffic from an almost empty website...) ?

    I have some NSString varibales that incude items like Ð and Õ and if I do cell.textLabel.text = person.name; and if it contains one of those characters the cell.textlabel is blank! I have discovered that if I use NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; To pull my data back it pulls back null, however using the deprectared method NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithCString:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; Shows the characters! Any ideas?

    I am developing a firefox extension and ideally would be able to get the whole darn DOM as a string.. forget any data structure. I just want what I see in "view source" in a buffer. I have been checking out javascript references and HTMLDocument etc. with no avail. Ideally I would be able to write to this buffer as well (seems possible i.e. document.writeLn()) I wish there was a document.read()? Am I just a js noob?

You can also download the sample solution I am demo-ing in the blog post. Introduction Performance testing is as important for new websites as it is for evolving websites. If you already have your website running in production you could mine the information available in IIS logs to analyse the dense zones (most used pages) and performance test those pages rather than wasting time testing & tuning the least used pages in your application. What are IIS Logs To help with server use and analysis, IIS is integrated with several types of log files. These log file formats provide information on a range of websites and specific statistics, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, user information and site visits as well as dates, times and queries. If you are using IIS 7 and above you will find the log files in the following directory C:\Interpub\Logs\ Walkthrough 1. Download and Install Log Parser from the Microsoft download Centre. You should see the LogParser.dll in the install folder, the default install location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Log Parser 2.2. LogParser.dll gives us a library to query the iis log files programmatically. By the way if you haven’t used Log Parser in the past, it is a is a powerful, versatile tool that provides universal query access to text-based data such as log files, XML files and CSV files, as well as key data sources on the Windows operating system such as the Event Log, the Registry, the file system, and Active Directory. More details… 2. Create a new test project in Visual Studio. Let’s call it IISLogsToWebPerfTestDemo.   3.  Delete the UnitTest1.cs class that gets created by default. Right click the solution and add a project of type class library, name it, IISLogsToWebPerfTestEngine. Delete the default class Program.cs that gets created with the project. 4.     I'm interested in a function of two word lists, which would return an order agnostic edit distance between them. That is, the arguments would be two lists of (let's say space delimited) words and return value would be the minimum sum of the edit (or Levenshtein) distances of the words in the lists. Distance between "cat rat bat" and "rat bat cat" would be 0. Distance between "cat rat bat" and "fat had bad" would be the same as distance between "rat bat cat" and "had fat bad", 4. In the case the number of words in the lists are not the same, the shorter list would be padded with 0-length words. My intuition (which hasn't been nurtured with computer science classes) does not find any other solution than to use brute force: |had|fat|bad| a solution ---+---+---+---+ +---+---+---+ cat| 2 | 1 | 2 | | | 1 | | ---+---+---+---+ +---+---+---+ rat| 2 | 1 | 2 | | 3 | | | ---+---+---+---+ +---+---+---+ bat| 2 | 1 | 1 | | | | 4 | ---+---+---+---+ +---+---+---+ Starting from the first row, pick a column and go to the next rows without ever revisiting a column you have already visited. Do this over and over again until you've tried all combinations. To me this sounds a bit like the traveling salesman problem. Is it, and how would you solve my particular problem?

    hello, Thanks as usual for your prompt and kind suggestions. i am currently developing a function that is meant to execute dynamically created SQL statements. this is done by concatenating the columns and fetching them via cursors. the problem is that when there is a function with a comma between its arguments, the concat concatenates the contents of the functions inclusive. Is it possible to skip contents of every bracket found in a string using REGEXP_SUBTR or REGEXP_REPLACE? Many thanks for the anticipated response.

    I have this pseudo-code in java: bytes[] hash = MD5.hash("example"); String hexString = toHexString(hash); //This returns something like a0394dbe93f bytes[] hexBytes = hexString.getBytes("UTF-8"); Now, hexBytes[] and hash[] are different. I know I'm doing something wrong since hash.length() is 16 and hexBytes.length() is 32. Maybe it has something to do with java using Unicode for chars (just a wild guess here). Anyways, the question would be: how to get the original hash[] array from the hexString.
