  I have the following link. On click, I'd like to check the item.primary_company field and if populated, give the user a warning and ask if they would like to continue. • Sending Email to a specific address without requiring user to specify their mail server details

  Can anyone recommend a simple and reliable method of sending email notifications and possibly log files attachments from a C# program without requiring the installer or the user to configure the program by specifying server details and email addresses etc. (Mainly because they won't know the details, but also because they could change) The program will normally be run as a service of a Windows Server, but can be run on a client. I tried connecting to our own mail server and sending a email to myself, but some ISP's are blocking Port 25 on all servers but their own, so that method isn't working reliably. Tried sending email through gmail but that was less successful as the port they used was blocked by firewalls. Ditto webservices connecting on weird ports. Trying to use the local smptservice but did not work either. It would be nice, but not essential if it was not dependant on my own Internet connection/Servers. (Don't mind them being delayed, but prefer them not to get lost). Are there any webservices on http/https that allow you to do this sort of thing? TIA

  I'm getting a weird instance of a NameError when attempting to use a class I wrote. In a directory, I have the following file structure: dir/ ReutersParser.py test.py reut-xxx.sgm Where my custom class is defined in ReutersParser.py and I have a test script defined in test.py. The ReutersParser looks something like this: from sgmllib import SGMLParser class ReutersParser(SGMLParser): def __init__(self, verbose=0): SGMLParser.__init__(self, verbose) ... rest of parser if __name__ == '__main__': f = open('reut2-short.sgm') s = f.read() p = ReutersParser() p.parse(s) It's a parser to deal with SGML files of Reuters articles. The test works perfectly. Anyway, I'm going to use it in test.py, which looks like this: from ReutersParser import ReutersParser def main(): parser = ReutersParser() if __name__ == '__main__': main() When it gets to that parser line, I'm getting this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "D:\Projects\Reuters\test.py", line 34, in <module> main() File "D:\Projects\Reuters\test.py", line 19, in main parser = ReutersParser() File "D:\Projects\Reuters\ReutersParser.py", line 38, in __init__ SGMLParser.__init__(self, verbose) NameError: global name 'sgmllib' is not defined For some reason, when I try to use my ReutersParser in test.py, it throws an error that says it cannot find sgmllib, which is a built-in module. I'm at my wits' end trying to figure out why the import won't work. What's causing this NameError? I've tried importing sgmllib in my test.py and that works, so I don't understand why it can't find it when trying to run the constructor for my ReutersParser.

  I am SUPER new to programming and have my first assignment coming up in python. I am writing a hangman type game, where users are required to guess the word inputted from the other user. I have written most of the code, but the only problem I am having is when users have to input the word, making sure it is only limited to the alphabet. Please enter a word ") break else: answer = False This works while I input a few tries, but eventually will either exit the loop or displays an error. Is there any easier way to use this?   I'm writing the JS for a chat application I'm working on in my free time, and I need to have HTML identifiers that change according to user submitted data. This is usually something conceptually shaky enough that I would not even attempt it, but I don't see myself having much of a choice this time. What I need to do then is to escape the HTML id to make sure it won't allow for XSS or breaking HTML. I'm mostly used to sanitizing input before it goes in a text node, not an id itself.

• Using PHP version 5.2 or 5.3 for end-user commercial products?

  I'm doing research on what version of PHP to use when creating commercial scripts that will be sold to end users. Although the available stats aren't great, PHP 5.3 shows a 18.5% adoption rate. I'd like to use Symfony to create these scripts and it requires 5.3.2 which shows an even lower adoption rate (roughly 13% of that 18.5% use less than 5.3.2). Would I be risking much by jumping straight to PHP 5.3.2+ or should I ignore the stats and plough ahead?

• How to Remove Extensions From, and Force the Trailing Slash at the End of URLs?

  Example of current file structure: example.com/foo.php example.com/bar.html example.com/directory/ example.com/directory/foo.php example.com/directory/bar.html example.com/cgi-bin/directory/foo.cgi I would like to remove HTML, PHP and CGI extensions from, and then force the trailing slash at the end of URLs. So, it could look like this: example.com/foo/ example.com/bar/ example.com/directory/ example.com/directory/foo/ example.com/directory/bar/ example.com/cgi-bin/directory/foo/ I am very frustrated because I've searched for 17 hours straight for solution and visited more than a few hundred pages on various blogs and forums. I'm not joking. So I think I've done my research. Here is the code that sits in my .htaccess file right now: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f RewriteRule ^(([^/]+/)*[^./]+)/$ $1.html RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.[a-zA-Z0-9]|/)$ RewriteRule (.*)$ /$1/ [R=301,L] As you can see, this code only removes .html (and I'm not very happy with it because I think it could be done a lot simpler). I can remove the extension from PHP files when I rename them to .html through .htaccess, but that's not what I want. I want to remove it straight. This is the first thing I don't know how to do. The second thing is actually very annoying. My .htaccess file with code above, adds .html/ to every string entered after example.com/directory/foo/. So if I enter example.com/directory/foo/bar (obviously /bar doesn't exist since foo is a file), instead of just displaying message that page is not found, it converts it to example.com/directory/foo/bar.html/, then searches for a file for a few seconds and then displays the not found message. This, of course, is bad behavior. So, once again, I need the code in .htaccess to do the following things: Remove .html extension Remove .php extension Remove .cgi extension Force the trailing slash at the end of URLs Requests should behave correctly (no adding trailing slashes or extensions to strings if file or directory doesn't exist on server) Code should be as simple as possible I would very much appreciate any help. • How to end a relationship with a client without pissing them off?

  Here's my situation: I'm a freelancing student and I was working on a software project for a client over the summer holidays of 2010. At the time I completed the application, tested it on my machine, delivered it to the client and went back to University. However the client is not completely satisfied with the product and apparently has found a couple of bugs with it. Ever since I went back to Uni, they have been chasing me up and asking me to spend some time to fix the bugs. I have explained that this is simply not possible as I am extremely busy with my Uni work and cannot afford to spare my time for anything else. The client is getting increasingly pissed off and have been chasing me by calling during lectures at evenings and even asking me if I could go over to their place over the weekend to talk about this. This is in turn pissing me off as well because they're essentially asking me to give up my education so that I could help them out by fixing bugs. I go to Uni 5 days a week, 9-6 and feel it is unreasonable for them to call me during evenings and to ask me to work over weekends etc. I would like to end my relationship with this client but would like to do it amicably without pissing them off. How can I do this? I really wish they would just find someone else but I was charging them piss-poor rates so I think they don't want to go to anyone else because they would have to pay more. EDIT The application does not seem to work perfectly on their machine. I had tested it extensively on my machine and it seemed to work fine. I am not sure what exactly is causing it to not work. I was paid a very low amount and it was on an hourly basis. e.g. I would send an invoice saying I worked on this for x amount of hours and they would pay me for it. Apart from the work itself, I have not charged them for all the time spent sending e-mails back and forth, phone calls, visits to their place etc. I would really like to end all my dealings with this client right away.

• Is there a command to change primary group for a new user in Cygwin?

  Is there a way to set a (new) user's primary group in Cygwin's /etc/passwd file without hand-editing the file? I have a local group set up for members of the Dev Team on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box so that we can all modify a particular group files, but the regular users can only read them. As some of the work we do uses scripts that rely on Cygwin tools, this group is also in the /etc/group file. When I need to add a new user to the "Dev Team" group, I add them in Server Manager, and then use mkpasswd to add that user to Cygwin's /etc/passwd file. Unfortunately, they get the regular Domain Users group assigned as their primary group and I then have to go in and edit the passwd file to change the group. I now need to write some instructions for someone else who is not au fait with UNIX/Linux/Cygwin so that they can set up new Dev Team users and obviously "hand editing" /etc/passwd is a recipe for disaster if you don't know what you're doing. So, is there a way of getting mkpasswd to set a different primary group, or another tool like Linux's usermod which can be used for the purpose of changing the group in a more controlled manner?

  my friend uses Microsoft WebTV (e-mail address ends with @webtv.net) and I'd like to send him an e-mail with a picture attached to it. We went through a series of attempts one of which ended up a success, all others a failure. He just can't see my e-mail in his mailbox, when it contains an attachment. E-mails without attachments always go through all right. What seemed to help in the first successful case, was that he added my e-mail address to his address book and my e-mail suddenly showed up. Seemed to have been delivered before but hidden. He kept my address in his address book however, it didn't help with the following trials. He did look into his junk folder, nothing there. I made sure the file name contains no spaces. It's a regular jpeg, named something-like-this.jpg I downsized it to have only about 50k, as I've read somewhere that that's a limit. I actually doubt this piece of information, because I think the successful attempt was larger. webtv.net contains zero information. I watched their video demo for the e-mail client, so I at least know how the user interface looks like. I've never laid my hands on the real thing. I'm an advanced user myself (a programmer) but I can't wrap my mind around this. He on the other hand, is a very technically inexperienced user and because he's half way across the globe, I can't come and look over his shoulder. He doesn't have a computer, afaik there's no way I could see what he sees. Any ideas on how to debug this? Thanks for your time, guys. P.S.   As the question asks, how do I generate an ssh key for the user apache on Redhat? My use case, is that we have a mercurial server running under the apache user. We also have several web servers clustered that we need to log on to manually and do pulls from. Ideally, what we'd like to do is have the mercurial server push all changes to all the webservers in the cluster. To do this, we want to use ssh, as setting up http mercurial servers on each of the web servers seems like too much work, and far too heavy. What I've tried to do is the following: > sudo mkdir /var/www/.ssh > sudo chown -R apache:nobody /var/www/.ssh > su - apache -c "ssh-keygen -t rsa" This account is currently not available. I found the above commands elsewhere, but I can only assume that Redhat has differences to whatever distro was used for the above. Is there a way I can generate an ssh-key for the apache user?

• Windows user moving to Ubuntu 12.04. Where are the system tools, or equivalents?

  I am a Windows user who has begun experimenting with Ubuntu. Ubuntu seems great, but for all the things it seems like I CAN'T do. How do I get to advanced administration stuff, like the list of drivers, all of the installed software, and something equivalent to Windows' Device Manager. I always heard that Linux was supposed to be very raw, and you had to have lots of computer experience to make it work. This seems just the opposite. Ubuntu seems very modern and user friendly, better in some regards than any operating system I have seen. Unfortunately, I can't find any of the guts of this system beneath all of the user friendly frosting... gunk... crap... stuff. I'm reminded more and more of an Apple computer (except Linux is more affordable :). So how do I peel back this layer and start using the computer? A solution other than installing Gnome 3 would be appreciated.

• Combining two operators in Evil-mode Emacs

  In vim I've remapped > and < when in visual mode to >gv and <gv respectively, like so: vnoremap > >gv vnoremap < <gv Since my target for this question are folks experienced with emacs and not vim, what > and < do is indent/dedent visually selected text. What gv does is reselect the previously selected text. These maps cause > and < to indent/dedent and then reselect the previously selected text. I'm trying out emacs with evil-mode and I'd like to do the same, but I'm having some difficulty figuring out how, exactly, to accomplish the automatic reselection. It looks like I need to somehow call evil-shift-right and evil-visual-restore sequentially, but I don't know how to create a map that will do both, so I tried creating my own function which would call both sequentially and map that instead, but it didn't work, possibly due to the fact that both of them are defined, not as functions with defun but instead as operators with evil-define-operator. I tried creating my own operators: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) but that doesn't restore visual as expected. A stab in the dark gave me this: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) but that selects one additional line whenever it is supposed to reselect. For now I've been using the following, which only has the problem where it reselects an additional line in the < operator.
