• Indexing large DB's with Lucene/PHP

  Afternoon chaps, Trying to index a 1.7million row table with the Zend port of Lucene. On small tests of a few thousand rows its worked perfectly, but as soon as I try and up the rows to a few tens of thousands, it times out. Obviously, I could increase the time php allows the script to run, but seeing as 360 seconds gets me ~10,000 rows, I'd hate to think how many seconds it'd take to do 1.7million. I've also tried making the script run a few thousand, refresh, and then run the next few thousand, but doing this clears the index each time. Any ideas guys? Thanks :)

  I am currently writing a music blog. The administrator posts a new article every 2-3 days. Once the administrator posts an article, a mass email will be sent to around 5000 subscribers immediately. What is the best way to implement the mass mail feature? Does the following function work? function massmail() { $content = '...'; foreach ($recipients as $r) { $_content = $content .   I have a page that I want to redirect to that requires parameters in the URL: http://www.mysite.com/myController/myAction/param1:val1/param2:val2 I know that there is a Cake PHP redirect function for redirecting that works as follows: $this->redirect(array("controller" => "myController", "action" => "myAction", $data_can_be_passed_here), $status, $exit); How do I add the parameters that I want as part of the url using the above function? I would think that there might be another element that I could add to array so that I can pass along "param1:val1" and "param2:val2". Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Calling an svn update from a php script via a browser is not working

  Hey guys, I have two scripts. running an update and calling shell_exec('svn update') and shell_exec('svn st') running a mysqldump shell_exec('mysqldump params') The svn script is not running the update command, the svn st is printing results but not the svn update I tried to declare parameters when calling svn update eg 'svn update ' . dir . ' --username myuser --password mypasswd --non-interactive'; -- still nothing Played with most of the params If this is something related to binaries/permissions/groups, I don't see it. The mysqldump command works fine and is producing a file, so why isn't the svn updating the filesystem? Please do not advise using core SVN classes in PHP. This is not an option, I don't have complete control over the server and the module is not available. Thanks for your help, -hbt PS: important thing to mention here. The scripts works when called via the command line. It only fails when called via a web browser.

• XAMPP mail not working with PHP mail() function.

  Hi gusy, I just installed XAMPP, Apache is running, so is MySQL and Mercury. In Dreamweaver I created a php file with a mail($to,$subject,$msg,'From:'.$email); function, but when I ran the file from localhost it showed an error. After playing around with xampp control panel, turning mercury on and off, it's not showing any errors, yet is not send the email either... any ideas? the 'admin' button on the cp for mercury does nothing. Before I start trying to create the correct loops etc to create and style the table, i thought i best ask if there are already good jquery plugins / php classes create this visual interface and uncluttered enough to allow me to add a select date range method (like Google Analytics)? I'm looking for something to create a basic calendar table on a loop, which i can then style and add jquery features. Though worth asking if there's a complete package that already does what i plan on making?!! (jquery ui's date-picker doesn't look powerful enough / easy enough to modify)

  Hello, Im using Firefox 3.5.9. When i visit a url , it sets a cookie on my computer.I can see this cookie in Firefox by going to Tools-Options-Privacy,then clicking on 'Remove Individual Cookies'. There is a folder called xyz,which contains a cookie named JSessionId and which has some Content value . If i use curl in my php code to navigate to that website,is there a way i can read the Content value of that cookie programmatically ? . Some sample code would be really appreciated. Thank You

  I see the savepath has no value but does it default to something? Are the other values OK? I have access to the server and PHP files but how and what do I change? The specific issue - On page 1: session_start(); $_SESSION['uType']=$row['usertype']; //save user type to session print_r($_SESSION); //Prints the user type successfully On page 2: session_start(); print_r($_SESSION); //BLANK?? Observed: Page 1 displays the session data. However, there are NO cookies created anywhere on the browser? Page 1 does a require to display page 2. Page 2 does not contain the session data. Using FireFox as the target browser (looking at cookies with web developer add-in) How do I get the session to work across all pages? Thank You and yes I am a newbie at this.

  I know that playing with php float can give strange results if you try to add "goats + apples", but please take a look to the following case: $val = 1232.81; $p1 = 1217.16; $p2 = 15.65; $sum = $p1 + $p2; $dif = $val - $sum; echo $dif; It will give you -2.2737367544323E-13 ... yeah, ALMOST zero, but then why it doesn't say 0 ? This freaks me out big time. Please, I need some valid explanation.

The remove process could not remove white spaces from the quoted string like: 'text, "FROM" \'from\\' x' "sample text 'where' \"where\\" " etc. i need to use the PHP function: preg_replace($pattern, $replacement, $string); So what will be the value of $pattern and $replacement where the value of $string is the given SQL.

• Using SHIFT_JIS text in PHP

  I am building a form that needs to accept characters encoded in SHIFT_JIS and then send those results via email to a recipient. I've tried to simply capture the results from the $_POST variable and then to insert them into a block of text like this: $contents = <<<TEST Name: $NameJp ... TEST but that doesn't appear to work (which doesn't really surprise me). This is my first attempt at dealing with non-ASCII characters in PHP and I am hoping that people might have some suggestions. Perhaps I am missing a simple function to encode the text. Also, are there any other potential pitfalls that I might encounter? Thanks.

I have a table called FRUIT id type daysold 1 banana 5 2 apple 6 3 apple 4 4 peach 2 5 banana 6 What I would like is to have 3 checkboxes: Banana [ ] Apple [ ] Peach [ ] SUBMIT Then if I've only checked "Banana" and "Peach" the mysql output should only show me the rows that matches those two types. And the checkboxes should remain checked to highlight what was chosen. I can make the checkboxes but then that's about it really. I don't know how to properly get the info from the checkboxes and down to the WHERE argument in the MYSQL-code. Especially not with two types chosen. If it was just a dropdown menu with a single choice then I'd add the choice to the url and put WHERE type='$choice' - but I'm struggling with the multiple choices. I'm a bit of a novice at both php and mysql, so I'm a bit lost on this one.

  Hello, I want to pass an environment variable in linux to apache on start up. export MYVAR=5 --I define my environment variable on the command line PassEnv MYVAR --set apache to import the variable in apache config file apachectl restart --when I restart apache I don't get an error message. However I have noticed that if I do not create the environment variable in my first step, I get a warning message, so must be working here echo $_SERVER['MYVAR'] --i try to access the environment variable within PHP but it is not defined I've observed that if I try to PassEnv an environment variable that already exits (one that I havn't created myself) it works fine. The SetEnv directive also works fine. I'd really like to pass an environment variable to apache on the fly without writing it in a file. Help much appreciated. I'm using CentOS, PHP5 and Apache2. Thanks.

Using php i am inserting or updating the mysql database with create date or modified date using the variables $datestring = "%Y:%m:%d %h:%i:%s"; $time = time(); $createdate= mdate($datestring, $time); In this $createdate will be the variable i use to insert or update the table. But its updating the wrong value. ITs not the server time or localtime. mostly its 30 mins delay with godaddy's server time. Pls help.
