• GraphicsDevice is null in my XNA Windows Game project

  Hello All, I have just started trying to make a simple game with XNA 3.1 to help myself learn C# and XNA. I have run into a bit of an interesting problem, however. In all of the tutorials, one is supposed to pass GraphicsDevice when instantiating a new spriteBatch object like this: spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(GraphicsDevice); One might even do this: GraphicsDevice objGraphics = new graphics.GraphicsDevice; spriteBatch = new SpriteBatch(objGraphics); where graphics is the GraphicsDeviceManager. However, no matter which version I try, I always get an ArgumentNullException when I try to pass the GraphicsDevice object to spriteBatch's constructor. Almost every tutorial I have found gives the first one and only one mentioned the second option. Has anyone else run into a similar error or know what could be causing this? I am working in Windows 7 x64 with Visual Studio 2008.

• Mysql Error 2002 (HY000) on Snow Leopard

  My boss update my computer to Snow Leopard, after the update we had a set back and deleted a few files/folders, since then is just nightmare after another one. I finally getting things back but I'm still having problems with MySQL. This is what I did: Deleted ALL of mysql files/folders Download and installed the packages mysql-5.1.45-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg installed the Startup item and the preferences panel After the above, I tried to start MySQL from the preferences panel without luck, and running the following command from Terminal /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql I get the following result ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) I looked at some other post for possible solutions, but what they does not exactly fits my problem, so I cannot find a solution. I'm new to all this and your help will be much appreciated.

• Entity framework : [Set all the entities with internal access specifier]

  Hi, By virtue of my application, I need to seperate my business entities from the entities created by EF4. I need to restrict the entities to only access the repository from where they are translated (using translator) to business entities shared at business and service layer. I thought of restricting them by specifying them as internal. Now there are more than 40 entities in my application so manually setting them as internal is a difficult job. In one of the forums the answers suggested using the T4 templates. But even those templates read from the entity framework access specifier. When I try to manually try to specify all the properties and class access specifiers as internal it gives me an error saying that the entity set should also be set to internal, but there is no option for the same. I am using VS 2010 and Entity Framework 4. Any suggestions???

  Hi I have an enum declared like this: typedef enum { Top, Bottom, Center } UIItemAlignment; In my code I try to use it like this: item.alignment = UIItemAlignment.Top; I get an error like this: " Expected expression before 'UIItemAlignment' " If I use only: item.alignment = Top; everything works fine but why do I get this error if I try to use it the other way? _alignment is an NSInteger and it has a property declared like this @property (readwrite) NSInteger alignment; and I synthesized it in my implementation file. So my question is, why do I get this error?

• Does the Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet's Pen have an Eraser?

  I'm thinking about getting one of the cheaper Wacom tablets to start doing some "hobby"-ish digital art. Right now I think the Bamboo tablets are the best choice, especially the Pen only one, but after reading reviews it seems like the pen with the Bamboo pen doesn't have an eraser. Can anyone verify this? If it doesn't include a digital eraser I would consider this an enormous downside. Does the Bamboo Pen & Touch have a pen with an eraser? If it does, I would think about it but honestly I don't want the "touch" part considering how terrible it seems to be compared to a normal trackpad. And finally, are there any new Bamboos or something related coming out in the future? I'd like a pen-only tablet (with an eraser) that's cheap and portable and nothing seems to satisfy yet.   I know this is not a Windows site, so my apologies. I use Ubuntu all day, every day, and have finally convinced my buddy to try it. He is on Windows 7, so we installed this: http://www.ourcomments.org/cgi-bin/emacsw32-dl-latest.pl . It seems to be working great, but when he hits C-p ( prev. line ) it is trying to print the page for some reason. So, 2 questions. Is there a way to make it stop that, and is there a way to just run it from the command line, or without all of the fancy mouse stuff? Essentially as --no-windows? Thanks!

• SSRS 2008 Interactive Sorting in Sub-Report not working as expected

  I have a (parent) report that has a list. The details group of this list contains one sub-report. So basically if the list has 10 records (rows) the sub-report is executed 10 times. The problem seems to be with interactive sorting in the Sub-Report. It has 4 columns with interactive sorting enabled. When I run the parent report and try to sort columns SSRS "remembers" the previous sort column and sorts by multiple columns at the same time. For example if I sort by Col A then click to sort by Col B, SSRS will preserve the sorting of Col A (and the direction) and then apply the sorting to Col B. However I simply want to sort by Col B and do not want to Col A to be part of the sort. When I try this directly with the sub-report everything works as expected. Any ideas why this is happening?

The problem I am having is that sometimes, for some users, the information that reaches the server is null. • Blocking a country (mass iP Ranges), best practice for the actual block

  Hi all, This question has obviously been asked many times in many different forms, but I can't find an actual answer to the specific plan I've got. We run a popular European Commercial deals site, and are getting a large amount of incoming registrations/traffic from countries who cannot even take part in the deals we offer (and many of the retailers aren't even known outside Western Europe). I've identified the problem area to block a lot of this traffic, but (as expected) there are thousands of ip ranges required. My question now (finally!). On a test server, I created a script to block each range within iptables, but the amount of time it took to add the rules was large, and then iptables was unresponsive after this (especially when attempting a iptables -L). What is the most efficient way of blocking large numbers of ip ranges: iptables? Or a plugin where I can preload them efficiantly? hosts.deny? .htaccess (nasty as I'd be running it in apache on every load balanced web server)? Cheers

So far I've: Configured a rails app that uses mongomapper (the app works) Added shoulda to my gems, and installed it with rake gems:install Added config.frameworks -= [ :active_record, :active_resource ] to config/environment.rb so ActiveRecord isn't used. My models look like this: class Account include MongoMapper::Document key :name, String, :required => true key :description, String key :company_id, ObjectId key :_type, String belongs_to :company many :operations end My test for that model is this one: class AccountTest < Test::Unit::TestCase should_belong_to :company should_have_many :operations should_validate_presence_of :name end It fails on the first should_belong_to: ./test/unit/account_test.rb:3: undefined method `should_belong_to' for AccountTest:Class (NoMethodError) Any ideas why this doesn't work? Should I try something different from shoulda? I must point out that this is the first time I try to use shoulda, and I'm pretty new to testing itself.

  I am trying to establish a VPN connection to a server in my office from my laptop at home. I tried some of the steps as mentioned here: Connect to a network Connect to a workplace Use my Internet Connection (VPN) Then type server IP address and then my username & password. After creating a VPN connection, I can see I am connected to it. Now I want to browse files on the server. But I have no clue where I should look for them. I was thinking more of a simple step, like, Windows Run > Type ip address > \\124.345.678.900, then a prompt asking username and password, and finally a window opens to view the files. I tried to google it, but still unable to view files. Please help. Update: I didn't mention that when I try to connect to server via \\124.345.678.900 I get 0x80070043 error message.

• Why does my custom component raise AVs in the IDE?

  I'm trying to write a simple component that will allow you to embed one or more SDL rendering surfaces on a Delphi window, using the SDL 1.3 APIs. It will compile and install just fine, but when I try to use the component in the form designer, it raises AVs whenever I try to access its properties in the object inspector, save the form, or delete the component, and placing one on a form then trying to run gives a linker error: it apparently can't read the DFM properly for whatever reason. The DLL can be found at http://www.libsdl.org/tmp/SDL-1.3-dll.zip and the source code to my component can be downloaded here. SDL.pas is a JEDI-SDL header file; the rest is my own code. I don't see any reason for this to raise AVs in the form designer. If I dynamically create the control at runtime I don't have any stability issues. Can anyone take a look at this and maybe provide some feedback that might help me clear it up?

  I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). • Paver 0.8.1 compatibility with python 2.6

  Hi, Does anyone manage to bootstrap its development area using paver with python 2.6 ? I have install python 2.6, install paver with easy_install-2.6, everything looks fine. But when I try to launch the bootstrap method it raises an urllib2.HTTPError (: HTTP Error 404: Not Found) while trying to download http://pypi.python.org/packages/2.6/s/setuptools/setuptools-0.6c8-py2.6.egg. I have tryed to add the correct setuptools EGG file (which is 0.6c9) in the support-files directory, bootstrap.py find the EGG file, but doesn't seem to use it because it still try to download the 0.6c8 version which is no more available. • How to completely wipe rubygems along with rails etc

  Ok, so I decided I'd be cool and try to use Rails3 that's in beta. Then, things were getting hard to manage so I got rvm. I installed ruby 1.9.2-head in rvm and things were working, and then a computer restart later rails wouldn't start up. So I figured I'd just try running the system ruby and start rails in it. same error. Then, I uninstalled rails3 and got rails: no such file or directory type errors.. So now I'm royally screwed because rails2 is still installed but will not uninstall because of invisible dependencies, along with a lot of other random gems. How do I completely clear out all ruby gems and such so I can start anew?

  Oh, I am stuck again on this quiet annoying problem. I am trying to do a little automated browsing using the axWebBrowser component and it worked before. Now all of a sudden I get the following message when I try to browse to a page. Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. I totally disabled my firewall, ran VS2008 in Administrator mode, I even installed IE8 all to no avail. By the way IE8 doesn't work either. I don't know if the problem is related but all I get when I put a URL into IE8 is this message.   Using VisualStudio 2008, have emacs keyboard mapping scheme enabled. If I select text and try to paste over it, it INSERTS the new text, rather than replacing it. Also, if I select text and hit DELETE it deletes the first character AFTER the selected text (just as if I didn't have any text selected). Does anyone know how to fix this so that I get the standard windows behavior. That is: If I select text and try to paste over it, it replaces the selected text with what I pasted in. If I select text and hit the DELETE key, it actually deletes the text I have selected Thanks! Abby

• response.redirect to classic asp failing {Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimize

  I have the following code pasted below. For some reason, the response.redirect seems to be failing and it is maxing out the cpu on my server and just doesn't do anything. The .net code uploads the file fine, but does not redirect to the asp page to do the processing. I know this is absolute rubbish why would you have .net code redirecting to classic asp, it is a legacy app. I have tried putting false or true etc. at the end of the redirect as I have read other people have had issues with this. Please help as it's driving me insane! It's so strange, it runs locally on my machine but won't run on my server! I am getting the following error when I debugged remotely. {Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimized or a native frame is on top of the call stack.} (UPDATED) After debugging remotely and taking the redirect out of the try catch, I have found that the redirect is trying to get to the correct location but after it leaves the redirect is just seems to get lost. (almost as if it can't navigate away from the cobra_import project) back up a level to COBRA/pages. Why is this???
