• Ubuntu one, music streaming

  I'm running Ubuntu 11.10, and just signed up for Ubuntu One and Ubuntu One Music. Generally file sync is working fine, but music has been a complete failure so far. Here's what I'm looking at: After 24 hours, not a single mp3 or ogg file from my laptop has sync'd to the Cloud Music folder. I have 4 gigs of data used, which is definitely not enough to include music files. That's about the right amount for my docs and photos. With music, it should be more like 13 gigs. No music shows up on the Ubuntu One Music app on my phone, nor on the web view of my Ubuntu One Cloud folder I followed all the online instructions I could find. Basically, on my laptop, right click on the Music folder and select "Ubuntu One Synchronize this folder" The Music folder now has a green check mark on it indicating its sync'd The Ubuntu One app on my laptop says "File Sync is up to date" I did provide credit card information, and on the Ubuntu One website "Music Streaming" is listed as one of my services. So what am I doing wrong? Just read this post as I'm experiencing the same problem, the answer for this post says that due to the large number of files trying to be uploaded, that it could take up to a week. However I am, as above also being told that "File sync is up to date" Can somebody confirm that this is a bug and that I just need to wait for File sync to actually be up to date? Cheers

• How to display workflow related tasks in the item display page where the workflow is currently running on in SharePoint2013

  In one of the project, I need to display workflow related tasks in the item display page where the workflow is currently running on. To achieve this, I’d like to add the tasks list view web part and using the connected web part to achieve this.(ID=workflowitemid) However, to make it work I need to unhide the workflowitemid field in the task list, as it is hidden field and also cantogglehidden field is set to false. I need to use reflection to change the cantogglehidden field to true as it only has getter in the API and then I am able to unhide the field. You can download the script here. However, it is not ideal (make your environment not supported by Microsoft) to display tasks this way. Another way to display the related task is to use SharePoint designer solution with List view web part and data source. Here are the steps. 1. Create a new list display form as below 2. Edit the custom display form in advanced mode. 3. Find the PlaceHolderMain contentplace hoder and insert the DataView by choosing the associated workflow tasks list as below 4. Go to the List View Tools >> OPTIONS 5. Create a Parameter called workflowitemId Parameter which retrieve the value from the ID querystring as below 6. Create a filter based on UIVersion = workflowitemId as below ,we are going to change the UIVersion to WorkflowItemId property later as WorkflowItemId is a hidden field and cannot be selected from the wizard. 7. Replace UIVersion with WorkflowItemId in the caml for the XsltListViewWebPart. From: TO 8. Go to the new custom display page at http://yourserver/Lists/aa/CustomDisplayPage.aspx?ID=414, you will see the associated tasks are showing in the page. • NHibernate Pitfalls: Loading Foreign Key Properties

  This is part of a series of posts about NHibernate Pitfalls. See the entire collection here. When saving a new entity that has references to other entities (one to one, many to one), one has two options for setting their values: Load each of these references by calling ISession.Get and passing the foreign key; Load a proxy instead, by calling ISession.Load with the foreign key. So, what is the difference? Well, ISession.Get goes to the database and tries to retrieve the record with the given key, returning null if no record is found. ISession.Load, on the other hand, just returns a proxy to that record, without going to the database. This turns out to be a better option, because we really don’t need to retrieve the record – and all of its non-lazy properties and collections -, we just need its key. An example: 1: //going to the database 2: OrderDetail od = new OrderDetail(); 3: od.Product = session.Get<Product>(1); //a product is retrieved from the database 4: od.Order = session.Get<Order>(2); //an order is retrieved from the database 5:  6: session.Save(od); 7:  8: //creating in-memory proxies 9: OrderDetail od = new OrderDetail(); 10: od.Product = session.Load<Product>(1); //a proxy to a product is created 11: od.Order = session.Load<Order>(2); //a proxy to an order is created 12:  13: session.Save(od); So, if you just need to set a foreign key, use ISession.Load instead of ISession.Get.

• Help, broken Gsettings

  I was trying to disable the global menu as per http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2013/07/disable-global-menu-on-ubuntu-13-10-saucy/#comment-8612, but while it didn't change anything, after running the autoremove command unity-tweak-tool broke. Obviously my first reaction was to re-install the removed package but it remains broken. TBH I don't know if it is even related or just a coincidence. When I start it from the launcher it just blinks and disappear. When I start it from terminal I get this error: $ gnome-tweak-tool WARNING : Shell not installed or running WARNING : Error detecting shell Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_shell_extensions.py", line 199, in __init__ raise Exception("Shell not running or DBus service not available") Exception: Shell not running or DBus service not available INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.nautilus.desktop (key computer-icon-visible) WARNING : Shell not running None INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.mutter (key workspaces-only-on-primary) Segmentation fault (core dumped) I had a look with dconf-editor if I could just add the missing key, but apparently keys aren't meant to be added "by hand". So how can I fix this? I'd rather prefer not having to reinstall everything. Which package is broken, can I just reinstall that? EDIT: I found by being root gnome-tweak-tool no longer crashed so possibly a permission issue somewhere. I don't know that I changed any permissions. Another related problem, actually the reason I noticed the problem at all, is that unity-tweak-tool seem no longer to want to save the values edited. I normally just have the Unity launcher on the primary display but wanted to check what it was like having it on both. I didn't like it so I went into unity-tweak-tool to set it back - but regardless how many time I tick "only primary display" it never changes anything. What does the Unity-tweak-tool actually change and can I do this directly somehow?

• Troubleshooting Oracle Java 7 with Firefox

  I run Ubuntu 13.04 with up-to-date Firefox and Oracle Java 7 is installed from the package oracle-java7-installer from the ppa:webupd8team/java PPA. Java doesn't work in Firefox. When I start firefox from the command line, and open a webpage with some java, the java applet doesn't work and in the terminal firefox prints: $ firefox (process:28565): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java": error=13, Permission denied at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:1041) at sun.plugin2.jvm.JVMLauncher.start(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.startImpl(Unknown Source) (and some 20-30 lines more) (I guess the GLib-line can be ignored here.) Also, when I close the tab that contained the java applet, firefox freezes and I have to kill it. However, the permissions look fine: $ ls -l /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5746 Jul 22 17:35 /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/bin/java So, what could be wrong here? What to check next? EDIT: Oracle Java is needed for stupid Danske Bank online banking. (You are of course welcome to suggest me to change my bank.)

• Converting to and from local and world 3D coordinate spaces?

  Hey guys, I've been following a guide I found here (http://knol.google.com/k/matrices-for-3d-applications-view-transformation) on constructing a matrix that will allow me to 3D coordinates to an object's local coordinate space, and back again. I've tried to implement these two matrices using my object's look, side, up and location vectors and it seems to be working for the first three coordinates. I'm a little confused as to what I should expect for the w coordinate. Here are couple of examples from the print outs I've made of the matricies that are constructed.   MySQL 5.6 is truly a better MySQL and reflects Oracle's commitment to the evolution of the most popular and widelyused open source database on the planet.  The feature-complete 5.6 release candidate was announced at MySQL Connect in late September and the production-ready, generally available ("GA") product should be available in early 2013.  While the message around 5.6 has been focused mainly on mass appeal, advanced topics like performance/scale, high availability, and self-healing replication clusters, MySQL 5.6 also provides many developer-friendly nuggets that are designed to enable those who are building the next generation of web-based and embedded applications and services. Boiling down the 5.6 feature set into a smaller set, of simple, easy to use goodies designed with developer agility in mind, these things deserve a quick look:Subquery Optimizations Using semi-JOINs and late materialization, the MySQL 5.6 Optimizer delivers greatly improved subquery performance. Specifically, the optimizer is now more efficient in handling subqueries in the FROM clause; materialization of subqueries in the FROM clause is now postponed until their contents are needed during execution. Additionally, the optimizer may add an index to derived tables during execution to speed up row retrieval. Online DDL OperationsToday's web-based applications are designed to rapidly evolve and adapt to meet business and revenue-generationrequirements. Summaries Aggregated statistics grouped by statement, thread, user, host, account or object. The MySQL 5.6 Performance Schema is now enabled by default in the my.cnf file with optimized and auto-tune settings that minimize overhead (< 5%, but mileage will vary), so using the Performance Schema ona production server to monitor the most common application use cases is less of an issue.  In addition, new atomic levels of instrumentation enable the capture of granular levels of resource consumption by users, hosts, accounts, applications, etc. for billing and chargeback purposes in cloud computing environments.The MySQL docs are an excellent resource for all that is available and that can be done with the 5.6 Performance Schema. Better Condition Handling - GET DIAGNOSTICSMySQL 5.6 enables developers to easily check for error conditions and code for exceptions by introducing the new MySQL Diagnostics Area and corresponding GET DIAGNOSTICS interface command. • KDE not loading without nomode tag in grub and bad resolution [migrated]

  I recently installed Linux Mint 13 KDE but it's not working fine. At first I had to use failsafe mode to boot because normal boot takes to a textual login. If I use normal boot and text login I'm not able to run KDE nor with kdm start neither with startx. kdm says that's already running. Instead X is not able to run because can't connect Xserver to display. If I stop kdm and starx again doesn't change anything. Now I edited the grub to load in nomode. In that way KDE loads but resolution is wrong and xrandr doesn't help, because if I do this: cvt 1366 768 it changes it to 1368: # 1368x768 59.88 Hz (CVT) hsync: 47.79 kHz; pclk: 85.25 MHz Modeline "1368x768_60.00" 85.25 1368 1440 1576 1784 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync I also installed bumblebee and nvidia drivers because of optimus technology.. It worked just to have fun with glxspheres but there isn't any gain on KDE.. • Bridging The Gap Between Developers And Testers With VS 2010

  On January 29th Etienne Tremblay and I presented infront of roughly 120 people in Ottawa a 7 hours "sketch" on how VS 2010 and TFS 2010 can help both devs and testers in their respective work.  The presentation focused on how a testers' work can positively influence a developers' work and vice versa.  The format was quite unusual as I said it's a "sketch" where Etienne and I "ignore" the audience and we do as if we were at work and the audience is sort of "spying" on us.  In all I'm quite pleased with the content we presented and the format sure was alot of fun to render and I think the audience liked it too...  The good news for you people reading this post is that it got RECORDED and it's now available for download in quick 25 to 35 minutes format on the dev teach web site:  http://www.devteach.com/ALM-TFS2010-Bridgingthegap.aspx   There where 2 cameras, one filming us and one capturing the screen for our demos.  We switch from one to another in an intersting flow and Jean-René Roy made sure he kept all our goofs and didn't edit those funny "oups moments" where we screw-up in the scenario...  Mostly educative but hilarious at times !!!   Hey everyone, I know it’s been an eternity since I blogged but I have so much to do that I unfortunately need to prioritize.  Vincent Grondin and I did a 7h presentation on the new developer and tester tools available in the VS 2010 suite.  It was a blast.  We did it in front of an audience (around 120) and it was taped.  We did it as a play and really didn’t look at the crowd at all we were training each other on the technology. • Steam freezes at login screen

  I have just installed Steam on Xubuntu, and after it finished installing it went to the login screen, but the screen is frozen, and I cannot press the buttons. • Implementing logical paging with RadDataPager for WPF and Silverlight

We are going to implement alphabetical paging similar to this ASP.NET AJAX Grid Demo. As you may already know, the key to the heart of the RadDataPager is the IPagedCollectionView interface. • Sending Emails via Google SMTP - after some time quit working

  on a website I use PHPMailer to send automated registration emails, etc and also a newsletter-tool (which loops through the emails and sends them one by one). Also, I configured in Gmail under Settings and confirmed @mydomain addresses, so I can send from @mydomain emails without the gmail address being displayed. Furthermore I authorized the website to send mails with this link: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha Now, after 2 month where everything worked perfectly fine, suddenly users started not to receive emails anymore and most recently emails are not even being sent anymore. Also, I received many error messages like this: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.4.1 [email protected]: Recipient address rejected: Access Denied (state 13). When I check at this link: https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/checkmx/ It tells 2 none critical errors: Relayhost configuration detected. There SHOULD be a valid SPF record. So, the questions I would have were: does anybody have any hint why it stopped working, what the error messages mean? what to do to fix it? where do I set a SPF record (Cpanel?)? what is a relayhost and how to fix that? It is about 1000-1400 mails a day (gmail's limit is 2000). Also, what can I do wrong when setting up an SPF record? I've heard there are some testing tools for that.
