• Does Quartz2D test intersection of rect by line before drawing it.

  I'm drawing a big scheme that consist of a lot of lines. I do it in the drawRect: method of UIView. The scheme is larger than the layer of view and I check each line and draw it only if it intersects the visible rect. But at one moment I thought, should I do this? Maybe Quartz is already doing this test? So the question is: When I use function CGContextAddLineToPoint() does the Core Graphics tests this line for intersection with layer rect or it just draw it anyway?

  I am trying to get the HTTP status code number from the HttpWebResponse object returned from a HttpWebRequest. I was hoping to get the actual numbers (200, 301,302, 404, etc.) rather than the text description. ("Ok", "MovedPermanently", etc.) Is the number buried in a property somewhere in the response object? Any ideas other than creating a big switch function? Thanks. • supervisord environment variables setting up application

  I'm running an application from supervisord and I have to set up an environment for it. There are about 30 environment variables that need to be set. I've tried putting all on one big environment= line and that doesn't seem to work. I've also tried multiple enviroment= lines, and that doesn't seem to work either. I've also tried both with and without ' around the env value. What's the best way to set up my environment such that it remains intact under supervisord control? Should I be calling my actual program (tornado, fwiw) from a shell script with the environment preloaded there? Ideally, I'd like to put all of the enviroment variables into an include file and load them with supervisor, but I'm open to doing it another way.

  I know there are many algorithms to verify whether two line segments are intersected. But once they encountered parallel condition, they just tell the user a big "No" and pretend there is no overlap, share end point, or end point collusion. I know I can can calculate the distance between 2 lines segments. If the distance is 0, check the end points located in the other line segments or not. And this means I have to use a lot of if else and && || conditions. This is not difficult, but my question is "Is there a trick( or mathematics) method to calculate this special parallel case?"

Actually, I don't understand how would I send some data along with new connection. I have to combine regular ajax with new EventSource or there is a way to transfer post data inside that event? • How to receive HTTP messages using Socket

  I'm using Socket class for my web client. I can't use HttpWebRequest since it doesn't support socks proxies. So I have to parse headers and handle chunked encoding by myself. The most difficult thing is to determine length of content so I have to read it byte-by-byte. First I have to use ReadByte() to find last header ("\r\n\r\n" combination), then read chunk's size etc. But this approach has very poor performance. Can you suggest better solution? Maybe some open source examples or libraries that handle http request through sockets (not very big and complicated though, I'm a noob)

• C++: Can a macro expand "abc" into 'a', 'b', 'c'?

  I've written a variadic template that accepts a variable number of char parameters, i.e. template <char... Chars> struct Foo; I was just wondering if there were any macro tricks that would allow me to instantiate this with syntax similar to the following: Foo<"abc"> or Foo<SOME_MACRO("abc")> or Foo<SOME_MACRO(abc)> etc. Basically, anything that stops you from having to write the characters individually, like so Foo<'a', 'b', 'c'> This isn't a big issue for me as it's just for a toy program, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

  Hi all, I am curious about the security of PHP on an HTML webpage where PHP code is embedded (a webpage that would exist on the server as "webpage.php") or on a PHP script that may be referenced by an HTML page (that is, a PHP script that is not actually part of a webpage that exists on the server as "something.php" and is referenced by "webpage.html"). Getting to the point, let us say that if the source code of my PHP script is known by anyone it would be a very big problem. I know that when you view the source of a PHP page in a browser the PHP script is not shown, but what if the PHP server failed and the HTML still loaded (is this even possible), would a user be able to see the PHP script? To be more general, is there ANY possible way that a user could access the source of a PHP script from a web browser, and if so, how do I prevent it?

  Hi, I'm writing an app in pure C which expects two line at input: first one, which tells how big an array of int will be, and the second, which contains values, separated by space. So, for the following input 5 1 2 3 4 99 I need to create an array containing {1,2,3,4,99} Now, my question is - what is the fastest (yet easy ;)) way to do so? My problem is "how to read multiple numbers without looping through the whole string checking if it's space or a number" ? Thanks m.

• Is c++ explicit conversion really that bad?

  My knowledge in c++ at this point is more academic than anything else and in all my reading thus far, the use of explicit conversion with named casts (const_cast, static_cast, reinterpret_cast, dynamic_cast) has come with a big warning label (and it's easy to see why) that pretty much implies explicit conversion is symptomatic of bad design and should only be used as a last resort in desperate circumstances. So i have to ask: Is explicit conversion with named casts really just jury rigging code or is there a more graceful and positive application to this feature? Is there a good example of the latter?   My friend wants to store electrically her school -notes and process them fast, with backups. She has over 2GB -size repo already and growing all the time (mostly appended material i.e. more school notes, different formats, pdf, pictures and scanned, some text -files, etc). The goal of my friend is to process fast the notes. I suggested command like this here i.e. "# crontab -e @weekly wget --random-wait -e robots=off -U mozilla -mirror http://VeryLong.com". But I think plugging in Rsync somewhere could make it much better with Git. How would you help my friend to process and store the school -material under Git-version-controlling and still keep the size reasonable? • Why does internet explorer 8 fail to locate jpg files that other browsers can find?

  The following URL doesn't display for me in Internet Explorer 8. I even tried compatibility mode and it didn't fix the issue. http://beat.com.au/sites/default/files/images/_DSC5596.jpg It appears just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox. I suspect it has something to do with the filename starting with _ but that seems like a fairly big stretch to me. Is this error repeatable on other people's computers? And why on earth would such a strange thing happen anyway?

  I wanted to solve a question from project euleur about finding the largest prime number of a big number. I run my code on a virtual machine on Visual studio 2012, and the code seems froze. When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute?   i've been doing some research on interfaces and a simple layman's explanation for what it truly is. For some reason people love using overly complex explanations and jargon to explain truly simple concepts (guess it makes them feel big) and i have a gut feeling it's the same in this case. so from what i could grasp, it seems like interfaces are nothing more than a way to reserve method names, their return type if any, and the type and amount of arguments they accept. so when a class implements an interface (or interfaces) it is forced to define the body of each method from the interface(s). Am i on the nose with this one or do i need to keep digging? p.s. i know javascript doesn't have support for interfaces, but i still need to understand the concept because there are quite a few places where it's shown how to emulate to an extent.

  I need to generate large images (A4 image at 200 DPI, PNG format would be fine) in my compact framework application. This is impossible to do in standard way due to memory limitations (such big image will throw OOMException). Is there any library which offers file-backed stream image generation? Or I could generate many smaller stripes of images (each stripe representing a row of the large image) using standard Bitmap approach, but I need to merge them together afterwards - is there any method how to merge many smaller images into one large without having to instantiate large Bitmap instance (which would again cause OOM)?

  Hi, How can I determine whether xml serializer can serialize a file which is in a shared location and monitored by a file monitor. The file monitor has a list of parsers which are used to parse files in the shared folder. Once a file gets dropped into the folder, the file monitor will ask the registered parsers whether any of them can handle this file, if yes, the monitor will move the file out from the shared folder and assigns the task to the parser. Since some of the files are quite big, so I need to have a quick check on each parsers. How can I determine my xml parser can serialize the file without loading the full file into the memory?

• Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

  I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!

• How can I implement lazy loading on a page with 500+ images?

  I basically have a booking engine unit results page which must show 40 units and per each unit there's 1 large image of the first thumbnail and an X number of accompanying thumbnail images. I've been using the jquery lazy load plugin, but it's not thorough enough ( I'm invoking it on DOM Ready ), plus it doesn't really work in IE ( 50% of the clients use IE so it's a big issue ). What I think I really need to do is not really spit out the image but a fake element such as a span, and possibly modify my code such that if the user views the span, render it into an image element. <span src="/images/foo.gif"> The booking engine relies on JS so I think I might be forced to just rely on ajaxifying all the thumbnails and have event handlers on window scroll, etc in order for the page to be "usable" and load at an average time ( 2-3 seconds instead of 5-30s on high speed DSL/Cable ). I'd appreciate any examples or ideas.

• Django: Proper place to unregister ModelAdmins

  Sometimes I need to UNREGISTER some ModelAdmins from the admin site, because I don't want them to be there as they are, eg. if I'm using the Sites framework, and I dont want it to appear in the admin. It's no big deal to e.g. call admin.site.unregister(Site) to do so. In most cases I put it in admin.py of some related app that I have made, but sometimes I end up putting it in a place that hasn't much to do with the original app; another possibility would be making a "dummy app" and put it there... Does anybody know a more descent place where these calls can live?

• R get rid of rows with duplicate attribute

  hi there I have a big dataframe with columns such as: ID, time, OS, IP Each row of that dataframe corresponds to one entry. Within that dataframe for some IDs serveral entries (rows) exist. I would like to get rid of those multiple rows (obviously the other attributes will differ for the same ID). Or put different: I only want one single entry (row) for each ID. Could anyone be so kind and help me out on this one? When I use unique, on the ID column, I only recieve the levels (or each unique ID), but I want to keep the other attributes as well... I have tried to use apply(x,2,unique(data$ID)), but this does not work either... Any help is highly appreciated!

• FastCGI, PHP, Sendmail, and Codeigniter

  Hi Everyone. I am experiencing an odd issue. I just switched to FastCGI (Apache) because of the big performance boost. Everything is working great, except when I attempt to use sendmail (Codeigniter Class or just raw PHP). I have tested with and without CI and still get a 500 internal server error when trying to send. Could this be getting caused by a discrepency in how FastCGI utilizes sendmail? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Also, the email will send, it just errors afterwards. Please let me know a solution if you have one! Thanks! :)
