• Define a varbinary(max) column using sqlalchemy on MS SQL Server

  Hi, I'm querying an SQL Server database using SQLAlchemy and need to cast a column to varbinary(max). The thing I am struggling with is the "max" part. I can get the cast to work for any actual number (say varbinary(20)), but I cannot find how to get it to work for the "max" size of the varbinary column. Any pointers? Links? Solutions? I tried John's micro-templating but ran into a few issues, wanted to see if there are more baked / better packaged solutions out there. I've looked at several existing CRM and open source ChMS solutions but have not been satisfied with any of them. Before I start writing something from the ground up - I was wondering if anyone was aware of an open source asp.net application that might be a good fit for this project? Particularly, the application needs to perform CRUD and optimally allow for dynamic user-based creation/editing of fields associated with contacts etc.

• Rsync: pure Ruby implementation?

  I have a Rsync program Deltacopy with an executable as client and server but would like to replace this if possible with a pure Ruby implementation of Rsync. I found gems like six-rsync and rsync-update but they seem to be no general implementations. I'm looking for a pure Ruby solution, so no executables involved and preferably runnable on multiple OS. If possible a simple sample would be great. I only look for Rsync, no other transfer or backup solutions please.

• Recommendations for Spam Filter

  We are currently using MxGuardDog for spam filtering. It works by pointing our MX records at their mail servers. The service seems pretty good, it keeps out the obvious spam, but I would still say it let's through mail that to me is spam, but I accept that on the surface those emails may not flag any of the universally recognised indicators for spam. If an email comes through that I believe is spam, I can login to the Web Console and blacklist the email/domain. However, 99% of the time I don't because it's inconvenient - or, should i say, it's far less convenient than a button in Outlook that allows me to report the email/domain as spam. So, what we're looking for is a similar service i.e. cloud spam filtering that has an Outlook plugin so that Administrators/Users can report spam. We are only a small company, 10 users, so cost is of course an issue for us. Many thanks dotdev

• Processing incoming emails on Heroku

  For my side project kwiqi, I use ActionMailer's 'receive' method to process incoming email messages for tracking my expenses. Heroku doesn't have a local mail server running that same code will not work. One solution I've thought of is to periodically hit a controller action that will pull messages from Gmail. Are there other solutions that are reasonable? Is anyone processing incoming emails in Heroku?

• Ubuntu server - Problem of routing

  Hi, I have setup a Ubuntu server with Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud. The server is connected to a private LAN with DHCP and Internet access (via a gateway). At first, the server was working fine. It can ping the internet. It can also ping other machine inside LAN. The problem happened after i let the machine idle for more than 1 hour. When I want to use the machine again, I can't ping the internet anymore. I can only ping the machine inside LAN. I try to ping the server from another machine and it's working. Then, i ssh into that server from another machine, and I found that I can ping the internet from that server. It seems that there are some problems in the routing table of this server. Can anyone help me on this? Thank you. Max

• Grails validateable not work for non-persistent domain class

  I followed the instruction here: http://www.grails.org/doc/latest/guide/7.%20Validation.html and added into config.groovy: grails.validateable.classes = [liningtest.Warm'] Then added in src/groovy/Warm.groovy (it's a non-persistent domain class): package liningtest import org.codehaus.groovy.grails.validation.Validateable class Warm { String name; int happyCite; Warm(String n, int h) { this.name = n; this.happyCite = h; } static constraints = { name(size: 1..50) happyCite(min: 100) } } But it just doesn't work (both "blank false" & "size: 0..25") for the "hasErrors" function. It always returns false, even when the name is 25. Is this a Grails bug, if yes, is there any work-around? I'm using Grails 1.3.3 UPDATE: I have updated the simplified code. And now I know that constraint "size" can't be used with "blank", but still does not work. • Compiling LaTeX document makes Google Drive crash

  I've the issue that when I compile a LaTeX document that is located inside my Google Drive this will after a few turns make the OSX Google Drive application crash. As this is an important document I want to keep it all the time inside the Google Drive location to ensure cloud backup but this ofcourse is not guaranteed if this makes my Google Drive crash all the time. I don't seem te be able to identify what is causing this and I was hoping that maybe some people here have any idea what might cause this? We're talking about a 8 pages document with 3 images, so nothing crazy big or complex.

• Is there an online storage service that works with Windows 7 Backup and Restore? [closed]

  I love Windows 7 Backup and Restore.. However, I kind of find it inconvenient to use external hard drive, plug it in, take it out, put it away safely etc.. Is there an online storage service to which Windows Backup can save the backup files to? Can I make Windows Backup store the backed up data to an online storage service? I do not want to manually upload the backup files. I want it to save directly to the cloud. Doesn't matter if the service costs me some $$$. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition.

• Backup Client/Server Software that Syncs only the Delta?

  I have a co-located server, and a desktop computer. I push small things and large ammounts of small files (like my iTunes) into a JungleDisk cloud. If a few files change there, no big deal, the file gets re-uped. For larger files JungleDisk backup isn't helpful. Things like movies and VMware images that change a lot, but I want backed up. Just not to JungleDisk since that would cost me even more money. I am looking for a product, closed or open source (preferably open source) that will sync the change, or delta, to my personal server on a schedule. That way I can keep a copy of my larger things, without paying JungleDisk a ton more since they are in the range of many Gigabytes. Right now these few items are backed up over FTP, and take forever. Both the client and server are windows environments.
