  • Am I using too much jQuery? When am I crossing the line?

    Lately I found myself using jQuery and JavaScript a lot, often to do the same things that I did before using CSS. For example, I alternate table rows color or create buttons and links hover effects using JavaScript/jQuery. Is this acceptable? Or should I keep using CSS for these kinds of things? So the real question is: When I'm using too much jQuery? How can I understand when I'm crossing the line?

    Hello, I'm coding a uploader that saves into the db the date when a file is uploaded using CURDATE(). I want to compare the current date with the one stored into the db in order to change the color of the icon related to the file depending on how long has this feel been uploaded. For instance, if less than a week, the icon will be green, if more than a week, it will be yellow, if more than two weeks, red. How can I do it? Thanks.

  • Managing SharePoint permissions via Active Directory?

    My company has thousands of employees organized thoroughly via Active Directory. I have confidence in the accuracy of the Department and Title information displayed in the user profiles. I'm helping to put up a brand new SharePoint 2007 site, and I contacted IT about managing the site's permissions through AD Groups. The goal is to have the site automatically assign read/write/contribute/whatever permissions based on the information in AD. For example, we could create an AD Group called "Managers" that would contain anyone with the "Manager" title in their AD user profile. I would have SharePoint tap into this AD Group to mass assign permissions if I knew all managers would need a certain level of access (read/write/contribute/whatever). Then if a manager joins the company or leaves it, the group is automatically updated (provided AD gets updated, of course). My IT rep called back and said it couldn't be done. This seems like a pretty straightforward business requirement, and one of the huge benefits of having Active Directory, but maybe I'm mistaken. Could anyone shed some light on this? A) Is it possible to use dynamically-updated AD Groups when assigning permissions via SharePoint? (Does anyone know of a guide I could show my doubtful IT rep?) B) Is there a "best practice" way to go about this? I've read some debate on whether SharePoint Groups or AD Groups are the way to go. My main concern is dynamic updating. C) If this isn't available out of the box, can someone recommend third-party software that will provide the functionality I'm looking for? A big thanks to anyone who can help me out!!

  • Treeview nodes won't highlight using PopulateOndemand

    Hi everyone, I have a treeview and I want to highlight (change the text color) of a node in the treeview once that node has been selected. This isnt working for me for some reason. when I select a node nothing happens, but when I click the plus on the same node I just selected...it highlights...and even then when I click any of the childnodes, nothing happens and the root node stays highlighted always. Can anyone point me in the right direction...I'm using c#.

    I am trying to create a landscape and portrait mode only for tablets. For portrait mode I added the files under layout-xlarge and for landscape in tablets I added files under layout-xlarge-land, but just to test if its working I tried switching the background color under landscape to green, but it didnt seem to work. Is there anything else I need to alter for code to recognize landscape mode for tablets?

    I've noticed that the brightness of computer monitors drastically varies between computers. As such, this changes the look of web pages greatly. Is there a way to use JavaScript to automatically detect how bright (or dark) a users monitor is so that I can adjust my web page colors accordingly? UPDATE Please note that I do not want manual user involvement. I want this detection to be automatic so that users don't realize I dynamically change the color palette automatically based on the brightness/darkness of their monitor.

  • Making a row of divs all be the same height using CSS

    I have a row of divs that must all be the same height, but I have no way of knowing what that height might be ahead of time (the content comes from an external source). I initially tried placing the divs in an enclosing div and floated them left. I then set their height to be "100%", but this had no perceptible effect. By setting the height on the enclosing div to a fixed-height I could then get the floated divs to expand, but only up to the fixed height of the container. When the content in one of the divs exceeded the fixed height, it spilled over; the floated divs refused to expand. I Googled this floated-divs-of-the-same-height problem and apparently there's no way to do it using CSS. So now I am trying to use a combination of relative and absolute positioning instead of floats. In our case we are loading a student C++ code into text area, then with a click on button we want to compile the code. And if there any compilation errors it will be displayed on text area nearby. (Interface is attached herewith.) And finally it able to execute the code if there aren't any compilation errors. And results will be displayed in console. We were able to do this with a C#(C# code will be loaded to text area intead of C++ code) code using inbuilt compiler. But still not able to do for C# code. Can anyone suggest a method to do this? It is possible to integrate external compiler to VS C# code? If possible how to achieve it? Very grateful if anyone will contributing to solve this matter?
