• Parsing T-SQL – The easy way

  Every once in a while, I hit an issue that would require me to interrogate/parse some T-SQL code.  Normally, I would shy away from this and attempt to solve the problem in some other way.  I have written parsers before in the the past using LEX and YACC, and as much fun and awesomeness that path is,  I couldnt justify the time it would take. However, this week I have been faced with just such an issue and at the back of my mind I can remember reading through the SQLServer 2012 feature pack and seeing something called “Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL Language Service “.  This is described there as : “The SQL Server Transact-SQL Language Service is a component based on the .NET Framework which provides parsing validation and IntelliSense services for Transact-SQL for SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2008 R2, and SQL Server 2008. “ Sounds just what I was after.  Documentation is very scant on this so dont take what follows as best practice or best use, just a practice and a use. Knowing what I was sort of looking for something, I found the relevant assembly in the gac which is the simply named ,’Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser’. Even knowing that you wont find much in terms of documentation if you do a web-search, but you will find the MSDN documentation that list the members and methods etc… The “scanner”  class sounded the most appropriate for my needs as that is described as “Scans Transact-SQL searching for individual units of code or tokens.”. After a bit of poking, around the code i ended up with was something like [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser") | Out-Null $ParseOptions = New-Object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.ParseOptions $ParseOptions.BatchSeparator = 'GO' $Parser = new-object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Scanner($ParseOptions) $Sql = "Create Procedure MyProc as Select top(10) * from dbo.Table" $Parser.SetSource($Sql,0) $Token=[Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Tokens]::TOKEN_SET $Start =0 $End = 0 $State =0 $IsEndOfBatch = $false $IsMatched = $false $IsExecAutoParamHelp = $false while(($Token = $Parser.GetNext([ref]$State ,[ref]$Start, [ref]$End, [ref]$IsMatched, [ref]$IsExecAutoParamHelp ))-ne [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Tokens]::EOF) { try{ ($TokenPrs =[Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Tokens]$Token) | Out-Null $TokenPrs $Sql.Substring($Start,($end-$Start)+1) }catch{ $TokenPrs = $null } } As you can see , the $Sql variable holds the sql to be parsed , that is pushed into the $Parser object using SetSource,  and then we will use GetNext until the EOF token is returned.  GetNext will also return the Start and End character positions within the source string of the parsed text. This script’s output is : TOKEN_CREATE Create TOKEN_PROCEDURE Procedure TOKEN_ID MyProc TOKEN_AS as TOKEN_SELECT Select TOKEN_TOP top TOKEN_INTEGER 10 TOKEN_FROM from TOKEN_ID dbo TOKEN_TABLE Table note that the ‘(‘, ‘)’  and ‘*’ characters have returned a token type that is not present in the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Tokens Enum that has caused an error which has been caught in the catch block.  Fun, Fun ,Fun , Simple T-SQL Parsing.  Hope this helps someone in the same position,  let me know how you get on.

• How can I send super large files directly to another computer in the Internet for free?

  I regulary need to transfer very large files (30 GB) to my friend - financial statistics. I don't have any problem with bandwidth: it is very broad here. I did some research in the area, so: 1. I would not use FTP, as it is very tricky to get it working behind a NAT. 2. I would not use Skype/MSN/ICQ, as it is not designed for file transfer and it underperforms on the huge files. 3. I would not use file-sharing services, as I need to pay for big files (30 GB is a problem here) and I don't like holding any piece of my data on the third-party server. So, I need some smart tool that will do what I need: sending files directly browser-to-browser and not browser-server-browser. Is it so complex? Is there some web application in the Internet that can do this?

• How do I install an rpm that complains about rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1?

  Im trying to install an rpm file on CentOS 5 and Im not sure how to resolve this issues it brings up: $ rpm --install epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm warning: epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 signature: NOKEY, key ID 0608b895 error: Failed dependencies: rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by epel-release-6-5.noarch rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by epel-release-6-5.noarch What do the lines rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 mean? is rpmlib out of date or FileDigests out of date? Whats with the syntax of something followed by parentheses? Ive tried to use yum so that it can resolve dependencies automatically but it is unable: $ sudo yum --nogpgcheck install epel-release-6-5.noarch.rpm ... • Tables are not visible in SQL Server Management Studio but they are in Visual Studio using same acco

  I'm experiencing a weird problem with a particular SQL login. When I connect to the server in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008) using this account, I cannot see any of the tables, stored procedures etc. that this account should have access to. When I connect to the same server within Visual Studio (2008) with the same account everything is there. I've also had a co-worker connect to the server using the same login and he's able to view everything as well. The strange thing is if I switch logins, I'm able to view objects that the other account has access to which indicates that there isn't a problem with MSSMS on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can diagnose this problem? I've check to make sure I don't have any Table filters etc.

Working with a large number of assets (photos, logos, files, etc) that will be stored on a DAM system for management, revisions, etc. Would like to build a front-end system to help serve up the assets for the users as well as keep the general site updated with non-asset information (like what's new, faq's, etc.) Any ideas/thoughts on this from anyone who has been down this path?   Our centralized IT department has suggested two primary ad hoc query tools for our general user base of approximately 200 staff members: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008 (SSMS) Microsoft Access 2003 Environment The backend database is a read-only Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. The schema is 400+ tables; allowing access to the raw data for our general staff would be a disaster. We will be building an "abstraction layer" over the raw data for our general staff to run ad hoc queries against. The abstraction layer will most likely contain a number of views. A number of users have basic knowledge in Microsoft Access; none have used SSMS. Which of the above tools (or alternative) would be best for a decidedly non-techie user base of approximately 200 people? What are the pros and cons of each? Also, the IT department has suggested teaching people T-SQL so they may use SSMS. Is this reasonable?

• How do I use BCP or Sql Server Management Studio to get BLOB data our of Sql Server?

  I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a table that stores files as BLOBS. The column that holds the file is an image datatype. I would like to be able to extract the binary data out of the column and turn it in to an actual file. I would ideally like to be able to do this with BCP or management studio if possible. I have tried BCP, but for some reason when I try and pull out an office document Word thinks it's corrupt. Here's what I've tried so far (obviously the values have been changed to protect the innocent :): bcp "select document_binary_data from database where id = 12345" queryout "c:\filename.doc" -n -S server -U username -P password This isn't working though? Any thoughts?

• Ninject caching an injected DataContext? Lifecycle Management?

  I had a series of very bizarre errors being thrown in my repositories. Row not found or changed, 1 of 2 updates failed... Nothing made sense. It was as if my DataContext instance was being cached... Nothing made sense and I was considering a career move. I then noticed that the DataContext instance was passed in using dependency injection, using Ninject (this is the first time I have used DI...). I ripped out the Dependency Injection, and all went back to normal. Instantly. So dependency injection was the issue, but I still don't know why. I am speculating that Ninject was caching the injected DataContext. Is this correct? Is there a way of configuring the lifecycle management of injected parameters? If so, what would be the best configuration to use to have the DataContext behave like a normal DataContext, ie, no caching across requests?

  I'm looking for something similar to Pacman Rosetta, which explains how to achieve similar tasks using different source code management tools. Sometimes docs for a certain SCM contain examples comparing that particular SCM to a couple of others. But I'm looking for a central place that contains maximum available information. Example: one uses bzr and knows that 'bzr pull' syncs a local repo by fetching new content from a remote repo. One want to know how to do that with git. One finds the git command, he knows the keyword. Since the keyword is known, one can proceed straight to git docs, he knows what to read about, he doesn't have to waste time by searching the git docs. I understand this might be not the only way people use to learn a new SCM tool. If you use other approaches, please do tell.

There is a value in brackets; [UQ_Users_0000000000000028], which seems a bit random to me, so would just like to ask if someone could explain this field?
