• How can I free up disk space in my Ubuntu Hardy Heron install?

  I'd like to make some room on /dev/sda1 without necessarily having to remove a whole bunch of applications (I've already gone through and deleted all frivolous apps). • MySQL doesn't talk to PHP anymore (EasyPHP)

  I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64 bit) I was using EasyPHP 5.3.1 to develop my website, but since I've upgraded I can't get PHP to talk to MySQL. Even the PHPMyAdmin page doesn't load. I've tried installing the latest 64bit version of MySQL in place of the supplied version of MySQL, but that hasn't helped. The queries just don't seem to reach MySQL. I have verified that the DB for my database works by running mysql on the command line. PHPMyAdmin doesn't display an error, just a blank page. • How does fail2ban 0.9 database storage actually works?

  Fail2ban 0.9 introduce database storage to save bans on restart. But I can't find out the actual mechanism of it work. There is dbpurgeage parameter which controls lifetime of old bans, defaults to 24 hours. As I see from code research, fail2ban saves a ban to the db with timeofban equals to the moment of ban being saved. Then every dbpurgeage period it removes all bans with timeofban < MyTime.time() - self._purgeAge, in other words removes all bans have been stored more than 24 hours ago. But what if an IP was banned for the month? Does all this mean that with dbpurgeage = 86400 after restart in 24 hours I will lost all bans longer than 24 hours? I just want that all my permanent bans will be preserved in any case.

  I have installed perl and pm_dbdmysql perl module on solaris-10. I have a perl script which makes the mysql DB connection to a diff server and runs some queries and returns the results. • Restoring the owners on debian system files

  Due to my inattention, tiredness (and probably stupidity) i've run chown -R someuser:someuser / and now all your base are belongs to us the files on the server belong to one user (lol). After system restart apache, bind9, mysql, and a dozen of other applications don't start and fill their log files with permission errors. I haven't done any backups on system files, only on the db and website files... Please suggest some ways to revive my web server. I have only 2 month experience with linux, so please keep it simple...

  Will changing the computer name on which SQL Server 2008 is installed on affect SQL Server in anyway? Or will changing the computer name be transparent to SQL Server? For example: I plan to install Windows 2008 Server and naming it "BobStage". Next I will install SQL Server 2008 R2 and restore a few DB's. Finally I plan to rename the windows machine to "BobLive". Will me renaming the computer's name affect SQL Server's instance ID/name and possibly break something?

I am frustrated of not having a good Linux GUI administration and development tool for PostgreSQL. pgAdmin III is buggy and unusable piece of... hmm, software, compared to Windows-only PostgreSQL Maestro and EMS PostgreSQL manager. phpPgaAmin does not looks promising. EMS PostgreSQL manager can work under Wine, but such setup have a number of issues. Requirements are: Table data editing and browsing for large tables (1M+), able to jump by FK or some master-slave editing, GUI filtering and so on. ER diagrams with in-place schema editing Schema editing and browsing with all useful GUI support Schema changes log to put into DB versioning (migrations script). Tabbed interface to be able to work with a number of tables and SQL queries at once. And so on. Any ideas?

• sql and web encoding problem

  Guys, I've got an encoding problem I believe. I have upgraded from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The old databases were in latin1, the new ones have utf8 encoding. Already during the upgrade process some rows of the DB were only read partly into the new version, because of strange characters as it turned out. When I use PHP's mb_convert_encoding() function to convert those strings to UTF8 they end up e.g. as 0x0093, i.e. they must have been some kind of double quotes. Even after doing this conversion, they still show up as 0x0093 in the browser (the squares with 0093 in them when the browser does not know what to display). Can someone explain the problem here? I'm a little confused and afraid I don't see all the dependencies that need to work to have the correct encodings and the correct display thereof...

  Hi All, I am currently trying to setup a MySQL Linked Server via SQL Server 2008 Express. I have tried two methods, creating a DSN using the mySQL 5.1 ODBC driver, and using Cherry Software OLE DB Driver as well. The method that I prefer would be using the ODBC driver, but both run horrendously slow (doing one simple join takes about 5 min). Is there any way I can get better performance? We are trying to cross query between multiple mySQL databases on different servers, and this seems to be method we think would work well. But it opens the same settings,plugins and workspace of the previous eclipse .I removed the previous eclipse even the same problem exists. In simple word. • Word mergefield wildcard not correctly matching

  Hello, Below is my mergefield code: { IF { MERGEFIELD Subs_State } = "GA" "blah blah" "{ IF { MERGEFIELD CEOrgStates } = "GA" "blah blah" ""} "} I'm pulling records from a MS Access db. My goal is to check whether a record has Subs_State field matching "GA", or the CEOrgStates has the word "GA" (some records have stuff like "|FL|CA|GA|CT|KY|" (no quotes)). When I merged the docs, Word doesnt seem to be able to match with the wildcards: If I use and compare "*GA" (fields ending with GA), it works; however, the double wildcards "*GA*" dont seem to work at all. Here are the things I’ve tried: Have data in lowercase, then compare with lowercase Have data in lowercase, convert to and then compare with uppercase Do the opposite of the above 2 with uppercase data Use “*GA*” and “*ga*” (no pipe) Use different delimiters Nothing seems to work with the double wildcard matching.   Hi, I have successfully configured Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 all 64 bit, however when I tried to access this particular SQL Server 2008 DB instance from another SQL Server 2008 SSMS in another Windows Server 2008 it failed ? what I did is to disabled the IPv6 IP address using the regedit but still the problem hasn't been fixed even after restart ? I have enabled the named piped as well but still no luck ? any help please ? I usually just make a backup of the new DB, blow the old one away and Restore my updated one. But now I have data I need to preserve. Most of the current tables have changed, in that extra columns have been added, all existing columns are still there and unchanged. I have access to Management Studio. • Server Performance

  We have a dedicated server that we use to stage websites (our test server). The performance of the server has become really bad and we regularly have to restart it. When performance is poor I have checked task manager for the processes and memory but everything looks OK. We use a content management system and it is always when using the admin section of this CMS that we notice the performance degrade which makes me think it may have something to do with DB calls the CMS is making. Does this sound viable? Any other sggestions of how I can go about testing this? Thanks in advance...

• How does Amarok rip Audio CDs (in Ubuntu Lucid)?

  I'm in the process of moving my CD collection into my Amarok library. Mostly, it works great. Sometimes however, the process just hangs forever. The problem seems to occur at random (i. e. often, but not always at the same disk/track) and the consequences range from none (successful after cancel/retry) to Amarok's internal db becoming completely messed up. I would like to investigate and file a proper bug report or find a fix / workaround, but I don't understand how Amarok does the ripping. When all is working, there's a lame process encoding to a temporary file, which appears in my collection once it's finished. When the process hangs, that lame command is still there, but waiting forever for data on stdin, which seems to come from a third process. That seems to be kio_audiocd, but I don't know whether that's correct and what it's supposed to do. What's going on?

  Hello, we are currently using SQL Server Reporting Services and we would like to use Report Builder so our customers can create reports themselves. I have created a User on the server. I have added this user to the SQLServerMSSQLUser and SQLServerReportServerUser groups. I have given this User db_datareader access to the required database and to the Reporting Services database. I've also tried giving the User db_owner access to the Reporting Services db's. And on the Report Manager, this User is a System_User, but has all access (every checkbox is checked). When I connect using Report Builder, I can select the Report Model to create a DataSource, but when I try to create a DataSet, I get the following error: An error occurred while connection to datasource 'DataSource1'. The details are: 'User Not Authorized'. Does anyone know what server permissions I forgot to set? I'm assuming it's a Windows permissions issue because I do not see any database login errors in the event logs.

I was using this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/mysql_database_replication Now I run a rather large MySQL database for a very large website, and in this tutorial it asks me to restart MySQL to apply the new settings in the /etc/my.cnf file. I'm try to avoid that step at all costs, as I know that restarting MySQL can take a few minutes on my machine (due to large logs/dbs), and I don't want any downtime. Is there a way to apply the necessary settings WITHOUT fully restarting Mysql?

I have installed phpmyadmin distribution of ubuntu. selected apache2 as the server, then selected 'yes' for 'db-common-config' option. after its completed, I suppose to access it via http://server/phpmyadmin, right? But I can't access it. Is there any way to verify whether its been installed properly and running properly plz? Or do I have to do anything further? Thanks in advance.

  Hi there, I have a ps1 script in which I define 2 functions as such: function Invoke-Sql([string]$query) { Invoke-Sqlcmd -ServerInstance $Server -Database $DB -User $User -Password $Password -Query $query } function Get-Queued { Invoke-Sql "Select * From Comment where AwaitsModeration = 1" } I then call the ps1 file by typing it in (it's in a folder in the path, and autocompletion works) However, I cannot start using the functions. I am confused, because when I copy / paste the functions into the console, all is fine and they work. I also have a function defined in my profile, and it works. Where am I thinking wrong, why doesn't it work what I'm trying to do?
