  Hi, Yesterday, my mom dropped her laptop to the floor and got the blue screen of death after trying to boot the system. I was able to start fedora live CD and get some of her stuff off the hard drive, but I cannot seem to be able to install Windows on it. The installation starts loading files and then the computer turns off. I am thinking that she might need a new hard drive. Any ideas?

  Hi all, Just today during a freak accident, a book got tossed onto my Samsung N120 netbook while it was open and the 'G' and 'T' key flew off. Part of the plastic underneath broke off. I was wondering where I would be able to find suppliers for individual keys for my netbook. Also, would it be better to replace the entire keyboard? Thanks in advance.

• Computer doesn't start up apart from lights/noise

  One of my computers doesn't boot up or at least nothing appears on my screen (not even the bios). It still makes some noise and the lights stay on, but not any beeping like I have heard computer make when start up fails. Before this happened my screen would occasionally have a strange image appear than crash (usually around startup). It would also sometimes just freeze without the image appearing. Any suggestions for how I can attempt to identify the problem?

  How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480 There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it? I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option. While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer.   I login remotely to a machine with Virtualbox installed by launching: ssh -Y root@virtualbox After that, I launch a Virtual Machine: nohup VBoxSDL --startvm vm1 or nohup VBoxSDL --startvm vm1 & After that, I don't have the prompt anymore. Then, if I switch off my local machine, the virtual machine goes down (no matter whether I use & or not). How can I keep it running after I switch off my local machine?

• Arrow keys don't work in htop on OS X in Terminal

  Not sure when it happened, or what I did (if anything), but my arrow keys don't work in htop anymore to scroll around. You should be able to press up and down to scroll up and down the process list, but they don't work. Some keys tend to be the equivalent of 'go back' or something. If I'm on the settings screen, left, up and down all go back to the main screen. htop seems to be the only affected program.

  I use the SUN Presenter Openoffice Extension with a twinview Ubuntu laptop. it works well : I have the video-projector with my presentation and my laptop screen with the slides (and time...). My problem is when I want to present a mono-screen application, like Firefox, gnome-terminal. It is displayed only on one monitor, which is not really efficient if you want to be interactive. Is there a way to display these types of application on both display and to interact with both ? Thanks

  I recently purchased an Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ notebook. It comes equipped with 2 modes, one for power saving (screen is dimmer, etc) and another for when connected to a power source. However, I'd like to control the settings for power save mode (specifically to make the screen a bit brighter) but the system didn't seem to ship with an app installed to modify these settings. Browsing the support site proved unsuccessful also. Anything out there I can do to control the notebook's power save settings?

• How do I remove the ServerSignature added by mod_fcgid?

  I'm running Mod_Security and I'm using the SecServerSignature to customize the Server header that Apache returns. This part works fine, however I'm also running mod_fcgid which appends "mod_fcgid/2.3.5" to the header. Is there any way I can turn this off? Setting ServerSignature off doesn't do anything. I was able to get it to go away by changing the ServerTokens but that removed the customization I had added.

• Monitor occasionally doesn't display properly

  Hi, I am using dual monitors, and this behavior has occured on 2 different computers (using the same monitors). When I turn the monitors off, and then on again after a while, 1 monitor turns on, displays the Dell logo etc. but doesn't display the windows login. It is just a blank page, and then the green light turns orange. Turning it on/off many times or just waiting a while eventually results in it working again, but I am very confused why!

  I am setting up nginx as a reverse proxy. The server runs on directadmin and lamp stack. I have nginx running on port 81. I can access all my sites (including virtual ips) on the port 81. Everytime I slide my finger from the right edge of the touchpad (where the slider is) toward the center (mostly accidentally), the charmbar pops up and stays on the screen until I manually click on some random spots on the screen. There's no such option in the Synaptics properties: .. nor is there any in the mouse option. Is there a way to turn this shortcut off?

  When I remote desktop into a server, I get a loud beep coming out of my local machine whenever certain messageboxes pop up. (An example is to search for something in the Event Log - when the search finds no results, I get a message box accompanied by a loud beep) Annoyingly, the beep still happens even if I have sound turned off locally or the volume right down - it seems to be hooking in to some low level OS-beep mechanism. Any way to turn it off?
