• What are the effects of using VS2005 to migrate from .NET 1.1

  Hey guys, I'm working on some legacy code for a client, involving Microsoft Content Management System (MCMS). Currently, everything is local, the code, MCMS, SQLServer, and IIS (5.x). I copied the project folder, and then opened the new copied solution in VS2005, and let it do it's conversion thing. But now nothing works. I've nnotice there have been some changes to IIS profile. What are the extent of these changes...?? Also, my VS2003 fails to recognize the Web Project?? Anyone have any idea what's going on? cheers!

• Error Exception 2048 on my website using OpenClassifieds software

  I have a website called e-waitress.net, it is a jobs employment website for the restaurant industry. I installed an open source program called OpenClassifieds and a couple days after installing the OpenClassifieds, I get an error message when I enter my url that is this: ErrorException [ 2048 ]: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EDT/-4.0/DST' instead ~ APPPATH/ko322/classes/kohana/date.php [ 592 ] I am wondering is this a server issue with my host provider or is it within the OpenClassifieds installation software? I've reinstalled the software twice and it's returned this error after a couple days of working great. Any ideas?

  Hi all, I have an extended userprofile with AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE (ref: http://tinyurl.com/yhracqq) I would like to set a user.is_guru() method similar to user.is_active(). This would results for al views (or rather templates) to e.g. disable/enable certain user messages, displaying of widgets, etc. The boolean is stored in the extended user profile model, but I want to avoid hitting the DB for every view. So the questions is .. Do I use a context_processor, a template tag, session_dict or what have you to, possible cached, store this info for the duration of the users visit. Note: I dont have performance issues, so it's definitely filed under premature optimization. I just want to avoid generating extra work in the future :). Any pointers are very welcome. • Cannot connect via HTTPS in Java app on MacOSX (Certificate validation issue)

  I have a java application that connects to a webservice over https. The domain where i host the webservice has a valid Goddaddy issued SSL certificate. The application works fine on Windows but on MacOSx i receive the following exception when attempting to connect to the webservice via https. sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target I've tested it on two machines running Mac OS X 10.7.2 with the latest java runtime updates. I understand this is usually a problem with self signed certificates that need to be added manually, but i have a valid Godaddy issued certificate. In webbrowsers (safari & firefox) on mac os the certificate is recognized and seems ok. I even tried adding the certificate to the key chain manually like in the gase of a self signed one but to no result.

• iOS Development: Does the GameKit SDK allow you to retrieve achievements by players other than the local player?

  Hello. I'm building a game that uses Game Center to connect players and manage leaderboards and achievements. I see that you can retrieve leaderboard details for any player, but can you do the same with achievements? When the user finishes a match with an opponent, I'd like to give the user the option to view the opponents profile, including leaderboard scores and completed achievements. I haven't found anything in the docs that shows me how to retrieve achievement details for players other than the local player, am I missing it or is this currently not supported?   specifically WM6x, winCE5x Now my current understanding from trawling the msdn etal is that the IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify callback can be made from any old thread; from (ce)mapi or perhaps even from a third-party service provider. Under WM6x, i cannot seem to coax an in-thread response by invoking HrThisThreadAdviseSink, since while this function is declared in mapiutil.h, a definition appears not to exist (in cemapi.lib or wherever??) ~But i notice that all the OnNotify callbacks i receive derive from windows messages that i am receiving on my thread (=looks to me like an in-thread implementation in any case under cemapi)... So, can anyone confirm that this is infact always the case -or am i just getting lucky right now? ah, i should add that my advise source is IMAPISession::Advise erm i should also say that i might have cross-posted this on the msdn forum -but they're mostly numptys over there,,

• [Android] GPS can't run inside TimerTask

  Hi, I am trying to write an android app that acquires a GPS signal at a fix time interval, for example every 1 minute. Since the requestLocationUpdate function does not exactly implement that, I tried to use task to accomplished it. public class getGPS extends TimerTask{ public void run(){ System.out.println("Running a GPS task"); locHandler = new locationUpdateHandler(); myManager.requestLocationUpdates(provider, 60000, 0, locHandler); } } public void LoadCoords(){ Timer timer = new Timer(); timer.scheduleAtFixedRate(new getGPS(), 0, 60000); } However, from what I've seen, requestLocationUpdates would run fine if I put it inside LoadCoords(), but would not run if I put it inside the TimerTask (ie no green icon on the task bar to show that GPS is looking for a fix). Can anyone please suggest an alternative approach or pseudo-code, or correct my mistake if there is one ? Thank you in advance.

• Syncing SQL Server 2008 Databases over HTTP using WCF & Sync Framework

  I've tried to get a solution for the above said question from MSDN Social and other resources from Microsoft. I was specifically looking for offline scenarios where client come online only to fetch updates from the Server. There are plenty of articles on Sync covering Sql CE but MSFT team seems to be ignoring questions from the community on Syncing with Sql Express clients. There is no standard provider for Sql Express client yet, and Sql 2008 change tracking is not supported in the latest release too. Since Sql Replication is an expensive alternative, I have to go with Sync Framework. Have anyone here in SO worked with Sync Framework, syncing through WCF endpoints? Please share code samples or sample projects.

On the other hand, as long as I use the method in the web application project built on asp.net 2.o using c#; the provided web method declared above, returns sbyte; Have a look my code below; formClearanceService.openSession(imageServiceUser); formClearanceService.prepareInstance(formId); byte[][] fieldImagesList = formClearanceService.getImagesForFields(fieldNames); formClearanceService.closeSession(); thus I get the following error: Cannot implicitly convert type 'sbyte[]' to 'byte[][]' So now, 1- should I ask the web service provider what is going on? or 2- any other way that can use the sbyte as I was suppose to use byte[][] like following using: byte[] ssss = fieldImagesList [0]..

• Creating a virtual, data-driven section of a Wordpress-powered site

  Hello all, I want to create a plugin for wordpress to automatically serve pages containing data pulled from a provider's API. The API returns one or more records containing data for that record and I simply want to have the plugin intercept the request, call the API with parameters pulled from the request URI and display the data using a template that I can either let them upload to the server or let them copy and paste into the plugins admin settings. For example, I may want one of my wordpress installations to show products pulled from such an API under the url "example.com/products". The plugin would catch that request, extract the variables from the URL, call the API and render the template with the returned results. I'd like to avoid requiring editing the .htaccess file like some caching plugins do. Some of the admins of these pages won't know how to do that or simply won't have access to the .htaccess file.   I have a datagrid in flash 8 that has an array as a data provider. One of the items in the array is a number, which represents an amount of money. So I iterate through the array and create a new item "amountFormatted" in each line of the array. For example I have a value of 10 and a formatted value of £10.00 in the array. This formatted value then appears in the datagrid. This seems a little cumbersome and I wondered if there was a way to set some automatic function so that the column in the datagrid is automatically formatted. a bit like an excel column can have formatting applied to it. I hope that is clear, thanks for any response.

In "members" table, i have "id" as the primary key and "username" as a unique field. Now my situation is: When flash want to display a member's profile. My questions: Should Flash pass the member "ID" or "username" to php to process the mysql query? Is there any different passing the "id" or "username"? Which one is more secure? Can I have the picture URL from the openid proccess? with OAuth I cant'seem to find the right scope to retrieve this information... See this link: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/docs/directory.html there is a list of scopes that you can fetch with REST api to google and I didnt't see the one related to the profile. Actions taken: Downloaded and installed the dotTrace Profiler 5.5 from the JetBrains website Downloaded the dotTrace.Performance.Remote version 5.5.0 from Nuget Published the website to WAWS via Visual Studio 2013 Started the dotTrace application as Administrator Connected to the remote _https://subdomain.azurwebsites.net/AgentService.asmx. • How to regularly merge two git repositories, one with submodules into one without

  I maintain a Drupal project in a git repository containing submodules. This works well for me overall, and I like the submodule approach. However, I would like to move my site to a hosting provider that offers deployment via git push but doesn't work with submodules. I would like to keep my current repository intact, and then when I'm ready to deploy, I would like to merge the changes from my repository into the deployment repository, but any submodules need to be exported into the tree. So, it needs to be (semi) automated, so I can just run a command or two and initiate the merge, and then push to the server. Ideally it would keep track of individual commits, but I wouldn't mind if it squashed them into a single commit. How would be the most effective way to achieve this?

• Customized generation/filtering resources with maven

  I wonder what is the Maven way in my situation. My application has a bunch of configuration files, let's call them profiles. Each profile configuration file is a *.properties file, that contains keys/values and some comments on these keys/values semantics. The idea is to generate these *.properties to have unified comments in all of them. My plan is to create a template.properties file that contains something like #Comments for key1/value1 key1=${key1.value} #Comments for key2/value2 key2=${key2.value} and a bunch of files like #profile_data_1.properties key1.value=profile_1_key_1_value key2.value=profile_1_key_2_value #profile_data_2.properties key1.value=profile_2_key_1_value key2.value=profile_2_key_2_value Then bind to generate-resources phase to create a copy of template.properties per profile_data_*, and filter that copy with profile_data_*.properties as a filter. The easiest way is probably to create an ant build file and use antrun plugin. But that is not a Maven way, is it? Other option is to create a Maven plugin for that tiny task. Somehow, I don't like that idea (plugin deployment is not what I want very much).

• Drupal rendering incomplete views

  I got tapped to do some quick maintenance on a recently migrated Drupal site. I'm pretty new to Drupal, so hopefully the problem is something that more experienced guys will figure out quick. Behavior is as follows. The public content works fine as far as I can tell. When I go to login, the login form renders correctly, but when I post the form w/ my credentials, I get back a blank page (not a 404; looks like a 200 to the /user URL, but all the gets rendered is empty Head and body tags). If i refresh the page, I get the content of my profile view, but none of the site chrome or CSS. Note that this is not an issue on the site it was migrated from, so it seems like something wasn't copied over correctly. The site's not public, so I can't provide a URL, sorry!

Users will have different custom metrics, businesses willl have seperate metrics, the admin section will have seperate, Advertises will have seperate, etc. So basically the goal is to have 1 framework in place for all Analytics, which will be custom user to user and even use that for the system analytic needs also. It will include data analytics as there will be user ratings/reviews to perfomr data mining on for businesses, USers will have basic reporting on their needs (like friend demographics, filter by different preferences, etc). • Template approach for a PHP application

  Hi everyone, We're in the middle of making a new e-commerce related PHP application and we have come to the point where we have started to think about how we should solve templating for our customers needs. What we would like to do is offer our customers the possibility of uploading/modifying templates to suit their company:s profile. The initial thought is that we shall not reinvent the wheel, so instead letting our customers upload their templates with FTP, so there will be basic HTML skills required. For those customers that want to modify/customize template and doesnt have the knowledge, we offer that service as well. I know that there's a number of issues to solve before this could be considered safe, like preventing XSS and writing scripts that check through each uploaded file for potential security threats and so on. Of course, there are some part that probably will be to complex for the customer to modify by themselves, so maybe this approach won't apply to all<< template files in the frontend application. But besides that, what would be a good way to handle this?

• Can a MAC address be used as a reliable part of a rights management (DRM) scheme?

  We're currently writing some software that we want to protect. We thought that registering a user's MAC address in a database upon activation of the software seemed viable; we can profile and grab that with a Java applet, (is there a better way?) so getting it isn't too much of a problem. However, we want their computer to only run the application, and download application files/updates from the server when their MAC address has been verified with their one on-file. We understand that this means a lockdown to one computer, but special changes can be made on request. What would be the best way to verify their MAC address, to see if it exists in the database, and then serve them the files to run the application? (And to simply run it on subsequent requests, to prevent re-downloading.)

• What is the best way to lazy load doubleclick ads that use document.write?

  Ads requested through via doubleclick often get served from an ad provider network that returns javascript that in turn performs document.write to place ads in the page. The use of document.write requires that the document be open, implying that the page hasn't reached document.complete. This gets in the way of deferring or lazy loading ad content. Putting such code at page bottom is helpful but doesn't do enough to lower all-important "page-loaded" time. Are "friendly iframes" the best we have? Is there any other alternative such as a clever way to override document.write?

• Profiling Java running by JNI calls

  Hi, I have a C++ code that upon execution: Loads JVM (I have full control on how to load the JVM), and call Java methods (from loaded classes) using C JNI code. The Java code has no Main() and it is actually not a standard Java application. it is mainly a static code that compiled and compacted into Jar file, the code is being called by the C++ module. Is it possible to profile this Java code being executed by YourKit (have license for it)? If so I'll be glad to know how. Thanks, Guy
