The reason for MonadState get and put?

I'm reading the Monads chapter in Real World Haskell (chapter 14). A function is defined as follows: type RandomState a = State StdGen a getRandom :: Random a => RandomState a getRandom = get >>= \gen -> let (val, gen')= random gen in put gen' >> return val I don't really understand the purpose of the get and put functions here. I rewrote the function as following which seems to do the same thing and is more concise: getRandom2 :: Random a => RandomState a getRandom2= State $ \ s -> random s So my question is: What is the purpose of get and put?

Ok,still learning Arrays. I wrote this code which fills the array named "rand" with random numbers between 0 and 1( exclusive). I want to start learning Complexity. the For loop executes n times (100 times) ,every time it takes O(1) time,so the worse case scenario is O(n),am I right? Hello all this is my first post. I'm working on a homework assignment with the following parameters. Piecework Workers are paid by the piece. Often worker who produce a greater quantity of output are paid at a higher rate. 1 - 199 pieces completed $0.50 each 200 - 399 $0.55 each (for all pieces) 400 - 599 $0.60 each 600 or more $0.65 each Input: For each worker, input the name and number of pieces completed. Is it safe to call a function to intialize a class in a ctor list?

I have Angle class that I want initialized to a random value. The Angle constructor can accept an int from a random() function. Is it safe to place this call in the ctor list: foo::foo() : Angle(random(0xFFFF)) {...} or do I have to do it in the body of the constructor? foo::foo() { Angle = Angle(random(0xFFFF)); ...} If it matters, the foo class is derived from another class and does have virtual methods. In addition, no exception handling is allowed in our app.

function to find common rows between more than two data frames in R

I have 4 data frames, and would like to find the rows whose values in a certain column do not exist in any of the other data frames. Hi! Basically, I have an ImageMetadata class and an Image class, which derives from ImageMetadata. Image adds one property: byte[] Content, which actually contains binary data. What I want to do is to map these two classes onto one table, but I absolutely do not need NHibernates' inheritance support to kick in. I want to tailor FNH Automap to produce something like: <class name="ImageMetadata" ...> <property name="Name" ... /> < ... /> <class name="Image" ...> <property name="Name" ... /> <property name="Content" ... /> < ... /> Is this at all possible?

Circle to move when mouse clicked Java

So I am really new to Java and I need a circle to move around JFrame when it's clicked, but the circle has to get random cordinates. So far this code generates a new circle every time it's clicked, but all the other circles stay there aswell, but I only need one circle to move around the frame. [PHP] Dynamic cron jobs?

I'm writing a script that needs to be called at a random time during the day, but am not sure how to accomplish this. I don't want to waste server resources to run a cron job every minute. I want the script to be called at random, so generating the random times for say a month in advance and then creating cron jobs for each of them isn't what I'm looking for. Also this script only needs to be executed once a day. Thanks in advance!

MYSQL Query with 2 columns in Table A related to 1 column in Table B

I have 2 Tables, User and Mail. In User Table i have 2 columns that i will use, the ID column which makes the relation with the Mail Table and it is the Index of User Table and the Name column. In Mail Table i have Receiver Column and Sender Column. Both columns, Receiver and Sender have a number that relates to the ID Column in the User Table. In the User Table is where the name columns resides and i want to make a query that shows me the Receiver and Sender Columns but with the name of the user, not the ID. Up to this point i have this: SELECT name AS Send, name AS Receive FROM mail,user WHERE sender=guid; I know there is still a part of the query missing but i can not figure out what else to put to tell it to show in the SEND output column the name of the sender and in the RECEIVE output column the name of the receiver.

I'm doing an application that puts tons of sprites on the screen in random position, like throwing cards on a table, but after a while it starts to drop the fps, because all the sprites still there. What I would like to do is adding the sprites but like an image, what's behind isn't stored. There are some way to do that? the code looks like this: var mySprite:MySprite = new MySprite(); mySprite.x = random; mySprite.y = random; mySprite.rotation = random; addChild(mySprite); Ps: I will not have to mess with them after they are on the screen.

Linear Search with Jagged Array?

Hello, I have the following program that creates 100 random elements trough a array. Those 100 random value's are unique, and every value only gets displayed once. Although with the linear search it keeps looking up the entire array. How would i be able to get a Jagged Array into this, so it only "scans" the remaining places left? (assuming i keep the table at 100 max elements, so if one random value is generated the array holds 99 elements with linear search scans and on...) I assume i would have to implent the jagged array somewhere in the FoundLinearInArray? Hopefully this made any sence. I'm building an 'add new row' function for product variations, and I'm struggling with the regex required to match the form attribute keys. So, I'm basically cloning rows, then incrementing the keys, like this (coffeescript): newrow = oldrow.find('select, input, textarea').each -> this.name = this.name.replace(/\[(\d+)\]/, (str, p1) -> "[" + (parseInt(p1, 10) + 1) + "]" ) this.id = this.id.replace(/\_(\d+)\_/, (str, p1) -> "_" + (parseInt(p1, 10) + 1) + "_" ) .end() This correctly increments a field with a name of product[variations][1][name], turning it into product[variations][2][name] BUT Each variation can have multiple options (eg, color can be red, blue, green), so I need to be able turn this product[variations][1][options][2][name] into product[variations][1][options][3][name], leaving the variation key alone. What regex do I need to match only the last occurrence of a key (the options key)?

Using sscanf to parse two strings out

I have a semi xml formatted file that contains line with the following format: <param name="Distance" value="1000Km" /> The first char in the string is usually a TAB or spaces. I've been using the following to try to parse the two strings out (from name and value): if(sscanf(lineread, "\t<param name=\"%s\" value=\"%s\" />", name, value) == 1) { //do something } name and value are char* Now, the result is always the same: name gets parse (I need to remove the quotes) and name is always empty.
