  • File permissions changed between OS X and Windows

    I zipped a rails project from OS X and sent it to a colleague who works on Windows. He updated the source, zipped the whole project folder and sent the zip file back to me. After unzipping the project, I found that the file permissions information is kind of lost. For example, the script/server is changed from -rwxr-xr-x to -rw-r--r--. Is there a way to preserver the file permission flags, when transferring files between mac and windows? Thanks

  • How to structure applications as multiple projects an name the packages in Java

    Hello Everyone I would like to know how you set up your projects in Java For example, in my current work-project, a six year old J2EE app with approximately 2 million LoC, we only have one project in Eclipse. The package structure is split into tiers and then domains, so it follows guidelines from Sun/Oracle. A huge ant-script is building different jars out of this one source-folder Personally I think it would be better to have multiple projects, at least for each tier. Recently I was playing around with a projects-structure like this: Domainproject (contains only annotated pojos, needed by all other projects) Datalayer (only persistence) Businesslogic (services) Presenter View This way, it should be easier to exchange components and when using a build tool like Maven I can have everything in a repository so when only working on the frontend I can get the rest as a dependecy in my classpath. Does this makes sense to you? Do you use different approaches and how do they look like? Furthermore I am struggeling how to name my packages/projects correctly. Right now, the above project-structure reflects in the names of the packages, eg. de.myapp.view and it continues with some technical subfolders like internal or interfaces. What I am missing here, and I dont know how to do this properly, is the distinction to a certain domain. When the project gets bigger it would be nice to recognise a particular domain but also the technical details to navigate more easily within the project. This leads to my second question: how do you name your projects and packages?

    Hi, im trying to do a join in linq , however for some reason i cant access the primary key of a table. It's the 'h.ProjectId' that doesn't seem to be accepted.     Lets say that you get involved in the development of a large project that is already in development for a long period ( more than one year ). The projects follows some of the current design guidelines, but also has a few different, that are currently discouraged ( mostly at naming guidelines ). Supposing that you can't/aren't allowed to change the whole project: What should be more important, consistency, follow the existing ones and defy current guidelines or the usage of the guidelines, creating differences between modules of the same project ?     Hai I am developing an application in C#.I have a folde called myfolder it contains a file called mypoints.bmp.the folder myfolder is in my project folder it is in D drive .the path is D:\Myproject\myfolder\mypoints.bmp Now in my program whereever i need mypoints.bmp i hardcoded the wholw path.when my project is copied in to a different system under C drive i am not able to run mu project because of the hardcoded path.HOw can i give the path so that there will not be any problem evenif it is loaded in to a different system under a different drive.Please help.   • Cant open Nerd Dinner 1.0 VS 2008 SP1 MVC 2

    I was trying to download some ASP.NET MVC Sample application to learn MVC. I tried Music Store and TownHall but they wont open in my VS2008.So I tried the common Nerddinner 1.0 but it gives error "The project Type is not supported by this installation" . I tried the 3rd Method suggested in the following post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1002907/cant-open-nerddinner-project-in-vs2008 This is about changing the project type GUIDS.Now the project loads but when I run it throws an exception <add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> I presume this is happening because the Nerddinner 1.0 is for MVC 1.0 and I have MVC 2.0 installed. How do I proceed now. I have spent a lot of time trying to get an MVC application working on my PC. I am happy if I can get any properly architected , MVC application of medium to high complexity to work on my PC. thanks
