• No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help. • Can remote LogMeIn Hamachi users access our local LAN?

  Unknown to me, one of the kids has installed LogMeIn Hamachi on his PC so that he can access and play on his pal's Minecraft server, and vice versa. One of the things I did was disable the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the Hamachi NIC in Windows 7's Network Connections. However, my lack of fu when it comes to these types of services is leaving me feeling a little uncomfortable about him using this. Is there anything I should be worried about here? For example, can his friends access our local LAN (which has a number of NAS boxes with unsecured shares) and get up to no good?

  Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.10 via VMWare under Windows 7. I have followed the procedure to install the USB stick. It is now connected to the host. However, I don't know how to access the content of the stick. My Google research indicates that this may be a mounting issue. I read somewhere that I should check /proc/bus/usb, but the usb directory does not exist in /proc/bus. Unfortunately, I am not a Linux expert at this. The ultimate issue I am trying to solve is the one describe here. I am trying to use vi to create ~/.vmware/config, but it is virtually impossible to use vi, since I don't have access to the arrow keys (chicken & egg problem). I have created the config file on my usb stick and want to copy it where it should be. Thanks!

• VirtualPC/XPMode... trying to let a VM access pages served using IIS on the host machine

  My host PC is running IIS7.5 under Windows7. I have a VM running XP to let me use IE6, but I've no idea what network settings on the VM/host are needed so the VM can access pages on the host. I thought if the host was 192.168.1.1, then from the VM I'd simply do http://192.168.1.1/... if I do this on the host it works but the VM can't see it. I'm assuming there are some shortcuts here rather than manually having to set up loads of permissions, e.g a shortcut way of letting the VM access the host maybe?

  The first time I access my server with a new installation of Filezilla or Putty, I will get prompted that I should continue only if the RSA key shown to me is correct. The cloud provider has advice on their website that I ought to use their AJAX console to get a key out-of-band with which to compare to the one shown by Filezilla. The AJAX console is launched from a link on the cloud provider's website which requires a login. Exactly how is this AJAX console considered to be out-of-band when it obviously is not a form of physical access to the server?

  I have a SonicWall TZ-210. I want an extremely easy way to limit external remote access to the VPN beyond just username and password, but I do not wish to buy/deploy a OTP appliance because that is overkill for my situation. I also do not want to use IPSec because my remote users are roaming. I want the user to be in physical possession of something, whether that is a pre-configured client with an encrypted key or a certificate .cer/.pfx of some sort. SonicWall used to offer "Certificate Services" for authentication, but apparently discontinued that a long time ago. So, what is everyone using in its place? Beyond the "Fortune 500" expensive solution, how do I limit access to the VPN to only those users who have possession of a certificate file or some other file or something beyond passwords? Thanks.

  Hello there, If I create a directory with mkdir(), or create a file with fopen(), file_put_contents() or SimpleXMLElement::asXML(), I am unable to access the file with my FTP-client or c-Panel File Manager. If I try to delete or edit them, I get errors. Dreamweaver suggests it is a permission problem or a network or filesystem fault (but I've set the permissions with chmod() to 0777, and when I check the cPanel, it confirms chmod 777. I also tried to use fileowner() and the function returns int(99), the same owner as those files that I could access with my FTP-client. It seems files and directories created with PHP can only be modified or be deleted with PHP. I thought this must be a server setup related issue, so I write it here.   Till now, I've been the sole and proud owner of an iMac. I've always logged in as an administrator and I've also installed a bunch of software following the standard procedure of dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. This is about to change, as sharing it with a friend makes a lot of sense now that I only have time to use the computer in the mornings, and she can only use it at nights. I thought this was going to be really easy: Just create a user account for her and that's all, I thought. Unfortunately, this is not the case. When she logins into the computer using her username and password, she has access to the same applications I've installed. Even the same applications that I setup to automatically start when I login start for her when she does. How can I setup a user that has only access to the applications that she has installed, but none of the ones installed by other users? Many thanks

  I want to make an SSH connection to another server with forwarding, but without having to log on to the remote server, nor interfere with the screen I am working on. I also need to access the connection to terminate it when I finish with it. eg. say I want to do a mysql backup on a remote server so I use the command ssh user@remote -L 1234:localhost:3306 but after issuing the password I want to run the mysql command in the session, but be able to access the SSH connection when I finish with mysql and terminate it.   I recently discovered that turning off "password protected sharing" in Windows 7 requires having the guest account enabled, named as such, and with a blank password. While Windows seems to automatically attempt to use guest when connecting, Ubuntu does not, requiring anyone trying to access my share to know to use guest and a blank password. I really don't want to have the guest account enabled, either. So is there a way to allow true anonymous access to a Windows share that doesn't require credentials? Or a way to allow any credentials at all?

Things to note: 'Use On-Screen Keyboard' is un-checked I have disabled Ease of Access by replacing utilman.exe But my problem now is that when I'm typing my password, It'll stop all together on the 'u' or the 'p' character and I have to click on the ease of access button then move focus back to the password to continue. Yes, one obvious solution is to not use a password that has 'u' or 'p' in it (which I've done), but that's obviously not a completely satisfying answer. Thanks! I feel a tumbleweed badge...

  For some reasons I installed virtual machines inside a virtual machine, like this: A( B( C )) where A is the physical machine, B is a vm and the network type is NAT. And C is also a virtual machine and the network type is bridged. The OSes are Ubuntu 12.04 and the hypervisors are kvm. I can access B via VNC and via ssh from A, but for C I can't use ssh because C has no IP address at the start. And I assume I can only access C via VNC. I tried something like(on A): iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d $ip-of-A -p tcp --dport 6500 -j DNAT --to-destination $ip-of-B:5900 (I referred to this) But it doesn't work. And I'm reading the man pages of iptables and hope someone could help :)

• Laptop connectd to 2 VPNs (1st for Internet over WiFi, 2nd to access shared folders on another network) is failing to route traffic over 2nd VPN

  I set up a VPN on Windows Server 2008 through its routing and remote access services. I connected to the VPN, and configured the client to allow for split tunneling (Internet traffic goes to my default gateway, and traffic directed to the VPN server goes through the VPN gateway). I had to adjust the routing table, adding an entry to ensure traffic to my VPN server goes through the tunnel by running the command "route add [VPN.IP] mask 255.255.255.255 [VPN.GATEWAY.IP] IF [VPN_INTERFACE_#]". Adding the correct route makes everything work flawlessly on all my machines, except for one. The problematic machine is a laptop that's not directly connected to a network. It connects to WiFi, and then connects to a VPN to obtain internet access. Finally, it connects to the target VPN server for file sharing. The "route add" trick doesn't work for that laptop, I'm assuming because it's connected to two VPNs, and I'm getting the routing wrong. Can anyone familiar with routing explain what routes I may need to add?

  Hi Everyone, I just bought a D-Link DNS-323 NAS Enclosure, and have run into a problem. I read that the firmware that had shipped with (1.07) did not support 2TB drives, so I downloaded firmware 1.08. Turned on the device for thwe first time and went straight to the WebUI (everything looked/worked fine) Proceeded with the firmware update, completed successfully. Rebooted and I cannot access the WebUI. I can see the NAS connected via my router interface I can also ping the ip adress assigned, but I cannot access the WebUI or find it via D-Link easy search software. I have tried the factory reset button, but that does not seem to be doing anything, the square blue light just keeps flashing from the moment the unit is powered on, whether I press the reset button or not, and the symptoms remain the same... PS. I did/do not have any drives installed yet. Please help?

  I have 2 windows 7 computers and i'm trying to share a folder (that I want password protection on) outside of the homegroup. Both computers are part of the same workgroup and I have the same user account/password combination on both computers plus I have password protected sharing turned on in the network and sharing centre along with file and printer sharing turned on. On computer 1 I have right clicked and selected that I want the folder shared. When I navigate via the network on computer 2 to computer 1 the shared folder shows up on computer 2 but double clicking on it to open it gives me an alert saying I don't have permission to access it, no option to type in the user name and password (according to the help files I shouldn't even need to type the password in if both computers have the same username/password anyway but would need it if I'm logged in as a different user). It's just a blanket denial of access.

  Our campus uses a squid proxy caching server with a basic authentication for all outbound requests coming from internal network. The whole network uses private IP range from 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255. Most of our faculty websites and library websites are hosted on LAN. I want to access those faculty websites and other internal websites when I am outside the proxy (say when I am at my home and not in campus). I don't know whether I can use the same basic authentication from outside to access those LAN websites. Is there a way I can do that? I don't know whether our proxy server allows it or not, but if that's possible - I want to know how (how to set up browser etc.)?
