• Why does the video download buffer empty itself half-way through playing a DIVX video in Firefox/Ubu

  If I load and play a long (2 hr) DIVX movie in the browser using the mplayer-mozilla plugin, the player stops playing after a period of time and resets itself, losing the loaded video buffer, so that the movie needs to be re-downloaded. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Environment: Karmic Koala, Ubuntu 9.10 Firefox 3.5.8 mplayer-mozilla player

• Can I move the Flash temp folder/buffer (Win64)

  I need to move the folder in which the Flash plugin saves its temporary files (so NOT the browser cache folder). Normally, the plugin saves its buffered content in the default temporary folder of the operating system. However, I do not want to move that folder. In other words, I only need to change the folder which flash uses. My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit. I am using the latest version of the flash plugin.

  When clicking Offline on Google Docs, it gives me the option to allow Google Docs access to Gears; but when I allow access it says: An error occurred activating Gears. Please try again later. I've tried: Resetting my browser cache, deleting the application from gears, and also reinstalling Chrome. None of these solve the problem however. Any ideas?

• internet connection occasionally stops, but can still ping .com sites

  hi, every half hour or so, for 1-2 minutes my browser will stop navigating to sites, "waiting for ... to respond.." within 2 minutes i will be able to connect to sites and browse like normal again. weird thing is, while i cannot connect to sites, i get ping replies from any .com i type in. this happens on my home wireless network, using FF and IE on a win7 desktop AND FF on an ubuntu laptop the network is wpa2 secured, these are the only connections.

• Can I get Linux into 'Party/Kiosk-Mode' like status?

  I want to create a linux user account (in ubuntu or debian or whatever release is more suitable for this) which cannot do anything but just view a pre-determined web page. Kind of Kiosk style so that the user can observe what is going on from that web page but; cannot execute or write (and this blocking is preferably made also via GUI i.e. user cant minimize or close the browser, cant view any -start menus- )anything on machine.   I have several local machines; I use a OSX 10.6 machine to do most of the serving. Annoyingly, it postfixes its network name with .local. How would I set up a system so that I could access it by its hostname? server: httpd apache2 default install I am accessing it with a web browser(surprisingly). also when I ping my osx machine as name, it doesn't work; ping name.local does work.

• Unable to connect to MSN network with Adium

  I'm new to the Mac world and tried both MSN Messenger for Mac (7.0 and 8.0 beta) as well as Adium to connect to the Windows network. I've enable 'Allow all incoming connections' in the Firewall settings. Windows Live Messenger works fine when connecting through the same router on my Windows laptop. I've triple checked my password and verified it through a web browser and Windows Live. Any ideas what my issue could be?

  Hello, I'm looking for a software similiar to Windows Desktop Search or Google Desktop, that can also display results from our Intranet search engine in the same manner it displays regular results (files/emails/etc.). So far I managed to add Intranet search capabilities to Windows Desktop Search, but it doesn't show the results in the programs UI, but requires the user to press a "Search Intranet" button that opens the browser.   I was trying to load the cool Kataspace WebGL demo (more info) and I get the error message "Your browser doesn't support WebGL. Currently we recommend the latest Firefox 4 Beta for all platforms." I checked around and every piece of advice I can find on the internet says to set webgl.enabled_for_all_sites to true in the about:config page. Mine is set to true yet I still receive the same message. Does anyone know of any other items that may be conflicting with WebGL running properly?

• Why do Chinese filenames displays as boxes in Windows 7?

  I'm running Windows 7 Professional (UK), and trying to get filenames containing Chinese characters to display correctly in Explorer. I can create Chinese filenames in explorer by pasting text from a webpage or using the Chinese IME to rename files, but the characters just display as boxes (Unicode 'missing character' glyph). The Chinese fonts are installed on the system, and web pages display OK in the browser. In particular, I can see the correct Chinese filenames by pointing chrome at file://C:\, for example.
