• How to suppress the unsolicited footer when converting HTML -> PDF with Acrobat?

  I often convert & combine (via contextmenu) HTML pages to PDF using Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader). I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended, version 9.1.2. The converted PDFs always have the full path of the original file on the bottom of the PDF-page, also they have an additional header line with the document. I need to suppress that. I do not want the unsolicited header and footer in the resulting PDF files as they are a pain to reomve manually, with a certain page count per document it becomes impossible. Is it possible to suppres that and if, how?

• Need recommendations for a hardy scanner that has a robust feeder tray

  In the early days of our company all our information came in on paper and all of what we sold was on paper. Because of this we literally rent our an old bank vault to house the millions of sheets of paper that, some say, still contain relevant information. That being said, I'm looking into purchasing some hardware capable of scanning all these documents and converting them to pdf. Being new at this level of digitization I would like to ask for recommendations for accomplishing this task. Most of this material exists as separate bound studies/articles/etc. Someone would have to remove the bindings and be able to load many pages at a time and have the scanner feed them all through and convert them to a single pdf (single pdf per study/article/etc). If you have any recommendations I would very much appreciate hearing about them, thanks.

• How can I use the proxy settings on Epic privacy browser to log on to Facebook?

  I love the Epic privacy browser because it is built from the ground up to enhance privacy. It's built on Chromium but because it has stripped out all code that tracks users across the Internet, pages load faster and things work snappier. With one click you can enable a proxy to hide your IP address, sort of like Chrome's "Incognito" mode on steroids. But there's a problem: if I load Epic, go to facebook.com, log in, and then click the proxy button, I can use Facebook for a while. But eventually, Facebook would throw up an error screen, saying that it thinks that my account has been hacked, and then it would make me verify my identity, force me to change my password, etc. I've had to change my password four times in as many days, which is very annoying. Now I turn on the proxy for browsing on to every other site but Facebook. Question: how can I use the proxy settings on Epic privacy browser to successfully log onto and use Facebook?

• HP Photosmart C5280 black ink not printing properly

  I just got a used HP Photosmart C5280 from my father in law. There is a problem with the black ink, though. Sometimes, it doesn't print and when it does, it's not really black. An example can be seen at the following link, where I created three black boxes on a Word page and printed. The outcome is somewhat blueish: Other tests with black text only come out as blank pages. I have tried using the print head cleaning utility from the menu of the printer as well as doing the cleaning myself with alcohol. Nothing has worked. Any ideas before I throw out the black cartridge?

• why only google related sites load using wireless network

  I have a wireless internet connection through BSNL. I have a windows 7 ultimate, and using latest Google chrome. During night time ie from 12:30 am onwards till around 5:30 am, I have the following problem: Only the following webpages load: Google Search Google images and all related to google product pages like you see them on the google home page. Blogspot webpages as supported through Google. Any other site loading gets stuck with the status message:- Waiting for www.thaturl.com .... And it goes on and on. Why does this happen? I checked around googling for this but no solution at all. By the way I tried changing my dns addresses too sometimes from automatically to opendns and then Google public dns. I need some solution which might help me to load other websites also. Thanks in advance.

• Wireless slow, but very odd

  I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, internet through the wireless timeouts. Even though it connects fine to the AP/router. The computer had a virus (searchnu?) and I backed up the usual and restored the laptop to factory image. Problem is after the restore the internet through the wireless the same still... and connected via wired and everything worked fine. I was able to update the whole system. Internet worked perfect, speed great. But the wireless still was pitiful. Ping tests with wireless are interesting: Google= 18ms Gmail= 18ms Yahoo= 1023ms 8.8.8.8=30ms Microsoft= Request Timed Out Bing= Request Timed Out msn= Request Timed Out even though I get 18ms with google, the pages take a long time to load. Is this a root kit? is it the wireless card in the laptop?

• Java plugin doesn't work in Chrome -- how can I fix this?

  This used to work fine until a week or so ago, and I am not sure what has changed since then. I have just uninstalled what seems to be all the JVM stuff on my machine and reinstalled with the latest recommended Java version from java.com (1.6, update 23). The plugin works fine in IE and Firefox, but in Chrome it fails and the pages that try to use the plugin act as if Java is not installed. I have tried this in both Chrome 8 and Chrome 9 with the same result. How can I diagnose and fix this?

• Vim: What do these short names / verbs like <leader>, <C-r> mean?

  I'm using Vim for a while now, starting to like it more and more. But when searching for some new features that Vim has in it's goodie bag, I'm often slapped in the face with things like <Leader> <C-r>, etc... I'm feeling really stupid for not being able to relate these to keys, commands, or what soever they should mean. I've also been searching multiple times for the use of these verbs, but I think I'm not using the correct search queries to get to the right explanation pages. Could someone give me a push in the right direction or maybe summarize the meaning / workings of these verbs? I thank you in advance!

  I am new to IP v6 and I am looking to translate some existing private IPv4 addresses into v6 address assignment. Can someone please help me to answer/explain the questions below? If I have an v4 address of: 10.10.0.0/22 10.10.1.0/22 10.10.2.0/22 10.10.3.0/22 10.10.8.0/20 10.20.1.0/24 What will the new v6 address to be? I have been looking online @ http://www.subnetonline.com/pages/subnet-calculators/ipv4-to-ipv6-converter.php or other sites, Seems like they translated it directly to be: fe80::a0a:0 /118 fe80::a0a:100 /118 fe80::a0a:200 /118 fe80::a0a:300 /118 fe80::a0a:800 /118 fe80::a14:100 /120 Can someone please explain to me how we get to /118 from either "/22 or /24" (1. and 5) In addition, I would like to create the new private address based on the Unique local address "fc00::/16" How do I expand from there? • How do I correctly display special characters in my Firefox browser?

  (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows XP) Every once in a while I notice an odd character on certain web pages when browsing the web. It is a outline of a box with a 4-digit number inside. And example of a page that has these characters is: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#highlights After each section heading (Elastic, Completely Controlled, ...) I see a box with the number "0096" inside. I looked at the cached version on Google, and google has &ndash; in it's place, so I'm guessing I should be seeing a dash there instead of the box with the numbers in it. I have tried changing the character encoding in Firefox but haven't been able to find one that shows these characters correctly. Is there a way to allow Firefox to view these characters? • How do I show some simple HTML (text/images) in the sidebar of my Drupal 7 theme?

  I've created a theme using Zen and all is well. I want to display some simple text and images in the sidebar, but I don't understand Drupal well enough to know what I'm doing. I have worked with Joomla which allows one to create a new HTML module, populate it, and then select where it appears on the page (and also of course which pages). I don't see this with Drupal. I've seen some talk about using the theme's templates, but I need for my client to be able to change the text (and/or images) without knowing anything about that. It would be best to create an article and be able to make that article appear in the side bar somehow. Is this possible?

• Explanation of command to uppercase the first letter of a file

  Hi I'm trying to learn to rename files with the command line, and after browsing around a lot of pages I finally found a command that uppercases the first letter of a file, but the problem is that I want to understand the meaning of each command. The command is: for i in *; do new=echo "$i" | sed -e 's/^./\U&/'; mv "$i" "$new";done I understand the 'for' kinda... but not the 'echo' or '`' and especially the sed command. if someone has a little patience to explain the meaning of each thing that'd be awesome!   I am having difficulty trying to redirect a root directory while at the same time redirect pages in a sub directory to a different URL. For example: http://test.example.com/olddir/sub/page.php?v=one to http://test.example.com/new/one while also redirecting the any request to the root of the olddir folder. I have tried RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} v=one RewriteRule ^/olddir/sub/page.php /new/? [R=301] and RedirectMatch /oldir "test.example.com" RedirectMatch /olddir/sub/page.php?v=one "test.example.com/new/one" Any help at this point will be extremely appreciated...Thanks!

• Gmail - Ways to have more than 20 items per page in the search results

  Gmail has the notorious limitation of 20 results per page when searching your mail. Is there an extension (Chrome - preferable, Firefox, etc.) that can fix this (i.e. allow more than 20 items per page)? Based on my experience this should be entirely doable (have the extension move across pages in the background and then collect the results). Is there an extension that can already do this? I'm asking because I couldn't find one.

• Free OCR for Arabic text

  A friend has requested I convert an Arabic text .pdf into Word. Google Docs does not seem an option but new OCR looked promising because Arabic is featured in the 'Recognition language' dropdown. I have failed to get this to work beyond "Error! Text can not be recognized." even with only a few sample pages (111KB). I'd much appreciate any advice about what I am doing wrong at that site (or even how to access any help available there!) or pointing to other (free!) options that work with Arabic text (preferably that do not require registration and or large downloads). Anyone willing to help please? Note this .pdf does not have a text layer.

• Custom file extensions as ASP.NET in IIS?

  I have Apache 2.2, and it's got modaspdotnet installed - the 2.2 version. I followed the advice at Configuring ASP.NET MVC2 on Apache 2.2 using mod_aspdotnet, and the server works basically very well. However, I'm trying to create custom extensions (e.g. file.customname, instead of file.aspx), similar to how Apache/PHP/htaccess can handle this. (I think it's mod_rewrite or .htaccess, forgotten which now!) What would I do to get these custom file types (all serving .NET files) working? The extensions are given custom names by me, simply for testing purposes This is a tourism site [a testing one, btw], and it's working OK on localhost for basic pages, but I wanted to know how to do this. How would I go about this? I've had a look on Google etc. but custom HTTP handlers was all I could really find! Thanks

• Best way to allow fans/users to contribute to a facebook page now that discussions are gone? [migrated]

  I run a facebook page with over 23,000 fans. I formerly had users submit recipes to the discussions tab. However, now that it is gone, I'm having difficulty finding a way to let users share recipes. If they simply post it in the stream, it goes away much to quickly. I've tried creating a new note with my personal account and tagging my page, but that does not make it show up in my pages "notes" section. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

• Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

  Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

• Is anyone working on an encfs client for windows?

  I've been looking into encfs as a solution to encrypt my personal data. However I want to access this data both on Linux and Windows on different machines (synced through Dropbox). So far all Google searches have brought up pages which specify that there is no Windows client that reads encfs. Therefore my question is: is anyone working on a Windows client for encfs? It would be really useful if someone was and it seems to be a common enough issue raised that I have a glimmer of hope that someone might be working on it.

• Include page url in php error_log

  I'm working on sorting out all my php errors. I've just setup so that all errors go into one log so I can view them. The problem is that I can't really see what page someone trying to access that gave them an error. Of course I can see the file where the error was generated, but these are often includes used on other pages - so I can't really see what URL a person was attempting to view when this error was displayed, so I can't really replicate the problem. Any suggestions? Is it possible to include the actual page URL?

• List all documents (webparts) and sites using a certain solution in sharepoint 2007

  I would like to uninstall a Sharepoint application template (GroupBoard Workspace to be exact) but I want to make sure nothing currently relies on it. I don't see any functions within stsadm that will tell me this information and I have even tried SPM which would work, but with such a huge site it's tedious to go through every single web and page to see which features are in use. Is there a way (probably with SQL using the id from stsadm -o enumsolutions) to list everything that relies on a template within a given solution, including webparts on custom pages? If this is not possible, what is the best way to check dependencies prior to uninstalling a solution (especially since GBW is not the only one on my axe list.) Note: I know that stsadm -o deletesolution will stop me from removing something that is in use, but I want to see all of the things that are using a given solution.

• Routing / binding 128 to one server

  I have a Ubuntu server with 128 ip's (static external ips 86.xx.xx.16), and I want to crawl pages thru different ip's. The gateway is xx.xxx.xxx.1, the main ip is xx.xxx.xxx.16, and the other 128 ip's are xx.xxx.xxx.129/255. I tried this configuration in /etc/network/interfaces but I doesn't work. It work if I remove the gateway for the aliases eth0:0 and eth0:1. I think this is routing problem. auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 auto eth0:0 auto eth0:1 iface eth0 inet static address xx.xxx.xxx.16 netmask 255.255.255.128 gateway xx.xxx.xxx.1 iface eth0:0 inet static address xx.xxx.xxx.129 netmask 255.255.255.128 gateway xx.xxx.xxx.1 iface eth0:1 inet static address xx.xxx.xxx.130 netmask 255.255.255.128 gateway xx.xxx.xxx.1 Also, please tell me how to "reset" every changes that I made in networking and routing.
