  • gitk looks ugly / doesn't honor theme settings

    I'm running Xubuntu, (actually linux mint with xfce on top, but I suppose it's essentially the same thing) I set my appearance theme to (a modified version of) MurrinaStormCloud, but if I run gitk, it uses ugly font rendering, ugly colors, ugly widgets. I think tcl is the thing to blame here, but can I fix it? Here's a picture for comparison between what firefox looks like under the current theme and what gitk looks like:

  • My VPS ubuntu server is very slow

    I just installed a frech copy of Ubuntu 12.04 on my vps because my old installation was very slow, unfortunately this did not fix the problem. With slow I mean requests for my PHP websites take a long time, very slow (30 sec per request) to slow (3+ sec per request). When it's really bad SSH is also laggish. The websites are: askmike.org (pretty standard Wordpress) mvr.me (own PHP) slow? very slow: Here is a picture of loading a clean install of wordpress slow: here is a picture of loading a small PHP based website the vps The VPS has 256mb ram and an 25GB hdd. Besides serving the 2 small websites it isn't doing anything AFAIK. What have I installed Clean Ubuntu server 12.04 LAMP stack few things like git and nodejs (not using both) ossec (because I thought my server was getting hammered) munin What I already tried / done I installed munin so that I could watch io speed and such. The problem is that I don't know where to look for in the munin report. I checked logs and don't see anything strange (although I don't really know where to look for besides strange / repetitive errors and GET requests). I configured Apache MPM to: <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 40 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 </IfModule> (apache is using prefork, the default) Stats I copied the munin report as it appeared at 4:50 last night to a site hosted on a shared webhost. Note that tonight my mysql crashed somewhere after 1:00 (which is a new problem altogether), so therefor the graph for last night might look strange. Can anyone help me get my VPS up to normal speed? EDIT: Thanks for the replies. The VPS is 10 bucks a month and is from directvps.nl (Dutch host and I'm also dutch). I did two speed tests for disk IO: $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 23.1506 s, 46.4 MB/s $ dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 39.3796 s, 27.3 MB/s Anyway: how can I prove to my VPS host that it is to slow? I can understand a server being busy slowing a website down. But 5-30 sec loadtime for a normal PHP webpage?

  • Linux: find out what process is using all the RAM?

    Before actually asking, just to be clear: yes, I know about disk cache, and no, it is not my case :) Sorry, for this preamble :) I'm using CentOS 5. Every application in the system is swapping heavily, and the system is very slow. When I do free -m, here is what I got: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3952 3929 22 0 1 18 -/+ buffers/cache: 3909 42 Swap: 16383 46 16337 So, I actually have only 42 Mb to use! As far as I understand, -/+ buffers/cache actually doesn't count the disk cache, so I indeed only have 42 Mb, right? I thought, I might be wrong, so I tried to switch off the disk caching and it had no effect - the picture remained the same. So, I decided to find out who is using all my RAM, and I used top for that. But, apparently, it reports that no process is using my RAM. The only process in my top is MySQL, but it is using 0.1% of RAM and 400Mb of swap. So, with that - I'm pretty sure that this is not a disk cache, who is using the RAM, because normally it should have been reduced and let other processes to use RAM, rather then go to swap. So, finally, the question is - if someone has any ideas how to find out what process is actually using the memory so heavily?

    Please look in to the picture,here am trying to open(with vi editor) my server console log file(around 100MB) and it takes more than two minutes to open with so many special characters.after deleting the first line (means typing "dd")then i can easily view the file and size of the file is also reduced very much.My server OS is RHEL 5.4 and jboss is running in to it.     I created a document by word 2010 in which I inserted captions for pictures and cross reffernec. I saved the document in my computer and emailed it to a colleague. When she opened the document in her computer, the caption list ( numbers which were cross referenced to pictures ) was not avaiable and she was not able to add refference to a picture or change an existing cross refference. It seems that caption list is only avaiable in the computer which the document is created.

    I'm trying to set up a personalized security option on my computer to take a picture using the webcam whenever someone tries to log onto my computer using an incorrect password. I've set up the task in the task scheduler, and I can get it to pass, but then the problem begins. When the task passes, it triggers like a million times and keeps going until I disable the task. Does anybody know why it might be doing that and how to make it not?

My friend has 8mbit uploading speed and has no errors even while uploading 3.2mb photos and more. How to fix this problem? I have tried to re-upload on IO error trigger, but it stops at the same place. Any solution regarding this error? By the way, i was watching process via debugging proxy and figured out, that responce headers doesn't come at all on this IO error. And sometimes shows socket error. If need, i will post serverside php script as well. But it stops at if(isset($_FILES['Filedata'])) { so it won't help :) as all processing comes after this check.

Now, I needed to encrypt some fields in the properties file. I got a Sample TableView XIB project from apple that I edited to my needs,The project has a UITableView that I Customized with Images, And with help of a certain forum member I was able to link up each image to a New View Controller.   • Edit Contact code worked in 1.6 but doesn't work on Droid 2.1?

    Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid.   • Cocos2d score resetting is messing up (long post warning)

    The score is not resetting right at all,I am trying to make a high score counter where every time you passed previous high score it will update.However, right now it is resetting during the game. For example if I had high score of 2 during the game it will take 3 points just to put it up to 3 as high score instead of keep going up until it is game over. I have came to the conclusion that I need to reset it in gameoverlayer so it won't reset during game.   • DIY a simple .inf on an existing .sys?

    In continuation of attempting to get an old Digi ST-1032 working on a new server, we've downgraded a server to Windows 2000 in an attempt to use the NT4 drivers. And it works, the old software setup works, finds the device on the SCSI bus, and connects the 32 ports to COM3..COM34 or any other set using the port remapper tool. The minor issue that remains is that Plug-and-Play still detects this device over SCSI and tries to wizard you into selecting a driver for it. Which doesn't exists (Digi Intl support confirms this device is so old, a 2000 or XP driver was never made). The exact name displayed is "DigiIntl ST-1032 SCSI Net Device" (Oddly enough, two devices get detected with this name, on two neighbouring LUN's, could one be the built-in terminator?) Is there a way to concoct a simple .inf that would (re-)register the existing sts.sys that appears to get registered by the (old) installer of the driver software?
