  My site is getting a lot of traffic from an image (a company logo image) because this image is ranked 1st in Google search results for a company's title. (I have no idea how that happened.) This image is must for my website, but it is not relevant to the site content, so irrelevant people search for the image and find out about my site. I get interesting statistics: Pros: Total Visits & Avg. New Visits Cons: Avg. Page/Visit, Avg. Visit Duration, Bounce Rate I am confused if this image is helpful to my website. I don't know what the balance between those 5 statistics should be. My website is 2 months old, and we are working on SEO at the moment. • My cPanel login is being redirected. How can I resolve this?

  I'm trying to get to cPanel to manage my website. When I type www.mydomain.com:2082 into the browser window, the request seems to be redirected. I made a screen-cast so I could slow down the changes in the address bar. First it seems to go to http://www.mydomain.com:2082/login then http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-sys/login.cgi At this point, a screen briefly appears which says 'Login attempt failed' and then the address is redirected to https://this22.thishost.com:2083/, which is no relation to my site at all. This looks to me like there has been an attack on the system and the login.cgi file is compromised. Any suggestions on how to analyze this further? or fix it? Of course my 'free hosting' isn't any help at all.

I bought Word Cleaner but the results are merely sufficient and I need go over all the generated html files to clean tons of useless injected tags like <strongH</strong<strongell</strong<strongo </strong<emWor</em<emld</em Most of the articles displayed on a website I manage are based on documents written on MS Word by people how has little idea of what are margins for or ordered/unordered lists, foot/end notes etc and I cannot make them use something else. Does anyone has a tip to help me handle those pages more efficiently than going over them to correct and apply my CSS style ? NB: Just for the record, using "Save as HTML DOC" in Word is faaar worst than Word cleaner

• Are these hacking attempts or something less sinister?

  I just had a look through our web server error logs, and Terminal services is reporting: "Remote session from client name a exceeded the maximum allowed failed logon attempts. The session was forcibly terminated." Hundreds of times, every 10.5 seconds or so for a period of about 5-10 minutes, once at 2pm yesterday and once again at about 1am this morning. We CURRENTLY have RDP open to the outside, as I am just completing the setup and now and then I/Others need to jump on from an outside office/location (VPN isn't an option) As these are so regular, am I right in assuming that they may be the result of some sort of dictionary attack? or could something like an internal admin's hung session cause such a mass of events? (Win Server 2008 R2)

  I looked at all sites of SO and couldn't find any suitable to ask this question but posting here as nearest match to scenario After 1 months research I basically give up on getting all URL's from a search results programmatically, I looked at Google Search API to find a way to get millions of search results "URL's" to be specific to a text file or something relative but no success, but I am 100% there must be a way or trick of doing it. Real Question : Is there anyway programmatically or manually I can get 1000+ search results (URLs using search query e.g. "Apple" returns million of results on google and I want as much as possible URLs of them results in a text file)

  I'm looking to register a few more domains for my company, I have my-company.com at the moment, but now require my-company.com.au and my-company.nl and some others.. I'm running through my options and wondering what is the best.. Duplicate all the content on the .com package and make a replica at the other domains Buy the other domains but do a 301 redirect back to the .com domain. Create a full new website with different content for the new domains, thus having no text duplication We currently sell over the world so would like to raise our Search rankings in various countries, can this be done by buying the domain in the country, and if so, how will the above methods affect our search rankings. • How to redirect a international domain to a subfolder on the English site without hurting Google rankings?

  I have two sites: www.example.de www.main.com www.main.com is English version of www.example.de which is in German. I want to keep only www.main.com. For the English version I will keep www.main.com, but for German I want to move it to www.main.com/de. I am wondering what would be best solution for old www.example.de: Redirect everything from www.example.de to www.main.com/de using 301 redirect? Redirect everything from www.example.de towww.main.com/de/page-url-of-old-size.html? So each link actually get own address. Is that necessary or will Google realize where the page belongs on new site even if I redirect everything to home page? Any other solution, maybe just set in Google webmaster tools the new domain or anything like that?

• Cannot access my own web page

  I am developing, learning and experimenting with php,html,javascript,flash and so on. Having web hosting and all of the cpanel, phpmyadmin and other utilities. One day, while updating information, connection between my computer and website just went down. I found out that it is only from this computer, where I cannot access anything. I don't know what is the reason I cannot access website, however this is what I have checked so far: Everything else opens normally, having problem only with my page. Cannot access FTP,cpanel or any kind of information related to the domain and hosting ipconfigs detects IP, but shows request timed out (so its not browser related) Turned off Firewall,AV, Rebooted computer Cleared caches,temp,cookies,histry with CCleaner Checked connectivity with both (wired,wireless) networks ISP has dynamic IP that has been changed about 3 times since issue Checked host file I am out of ideas and understanding what could cause this kind of issue, however couple minutes ago, found out that everything works with proxy server (when adding IP and port to the browsers) Can someone point out what should I check or try to get rid of this problem?

I have a Facebook fanpage for my website, I have made an app that basically uses an iframe and puts the site within a frame within Facebook. All works good but Google is not indexing this page. I am using <link rel="canonical" href="#" /> on my pages so prehaps this is an issue?

• 301 redirect from a country specific domain

  I originally started using a .do domain extension for my site, but later realized that this country specific domain would prevent us from appearing in search results for places outside of the Dominican Republic. We started using a .co domain extension and redirected all requests to the new domain using an HTTP 301. The "Crawl Stats" in Google Webmaster Tools shows me that the .co domain is being crawled, but the "Index Status" shows the number of pages indexed at 0. The "Crawl Stats" for the .do domain says that it's being crawled and the "Index Status" shows a number greater than 0. I also set a "Change Of Address" in Google Webmaster Tools to have the .do domain point to the new .co domain. We're still not appearing in search results at all even for very specific strings where I would expect to find us. Am I doing something wrong?

  I am working on a project where we would like to have build a web interface that gives the user the ability to "Google" files in a directory in a remote machine. For example, the user would type a string in a box, and then the system would find all files that contain that string and present them in the browser. The system would then give the user the ability click on any of the files to open them/display them in the browser. We want to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible, but don't really know where to start (none of us in the team have much experience building websites).   I've used article tags on websites. My understanding and practice is to use the article tag for publication content. I always use HTML/HTML5 tags as their intended purposes and not at will. Recently, I've seen an HTML template that uses the article tag for the non-publication page content such as the content of an About Us page or any other generic page. I asked the why it was used this way and the (vague) explanation was that it had to do with the way the iPad read the tag. Is this true?

For example: Some URLs title can be differed from others by only one word such as "Senior" and "Junior" Title A: C++ Online Test for Juniors Title B: C++ Online Test for Seniors Another example is with the "+" sign: Title A: C Standard Library Online Test for Seniors Title B: C++ Standard Library Online Test for Seniors Should I assume search engines will understand there is a difference in the titles?   Each page on my site contains a file, and I have Google Analytics set up to track file download events. I would like to see what fraction of users who visit Page X download Page X's file. I can view number of events by page by clicking on Content » Events » Pages. But I can't figure out how to see both events and pageviews (or visits) at the same time. Visits and pageviews are not available in the Secondary dimension dropdown from the Events list, and Events are not available as a Secondary dimension in the regular traffic listing (Content » Site Content » All Pages). I want something like this: Page Pageviews Events 1. /section/mypage 1,000 123 2. /category/anotherpage 867 41 3. /about/download 88 7 Is there a way to get this in Google Analytics?—to view events and pageviews, by page, at the same time?

• SQL binary value to PHP variable leading zeros

  Using sql query to pull data from a mssql database results in a value that still has leading zeros. The data in database is stored as binary(13) - so it will pull all 13 digits. However the value is a text, so any leading zeros will generally show up as '?' in a form on the site - and in return will update wrong data to the database later. So what i need is to only select/display the text itself, not all 13 bytes. using: SELECT CONVERT(char,uilock_pw) AS uipwd FROM tbl_UserAccount or SELECT uilock_pw FROM tbl_UserAccount still adds the leading zeros to the char array. Example in database: 0x71776531323300000000000000 Would show up as: qwe123??????? But should be: qwe123 Im not even sure what character those ? represent. Using Echo results in a normal qwe123 - but not in a form.

• What amount of PHP memory usage is reasonable for multiple WordPress sites? [closed]

  It seems like I've been plagued with memory usage issues most of the time I've been blogging (7 years). I upgraded my hosting to a HostGator VPS and still seem to have issues. I have about a dozen WP 3.4.2 sites running within a single account. Each has a separate installation. I finally installed TPC! Memory Usage within one of my WP installs to see what was going on. The memory usage just standing still is on the order of 40 MB. This seems high, but I don't know. What would be a reasonable memory usage for these WP installs? Do I need to take other things into account, or am I even looking at it the right way?

• A record not resolving

  I have a hosted domain at siteground. On this domain & host I have a subdomain with a wordpress install. I wish to move this blog to another host (hostgator), while keeping the domain with siteground. To do this I created a hosting account at hostgator, got it's ip address and set the A record in siteground's cpanel accordingly: subdomain.example.com 14400 A (ip of hostgator account) Going by this online traceroute tool the records appear to have been updated (over 4 hours ago now) as it now resolves to a theplanet.com server location which hostgator use yet the subdomain is still not resolving from a web browser. The account at hostgator has been setup and is navigable via ip address/~accountname. What's going wrong here? I should add the relevant DNS record at hostgator side looks like this: subdomain.example.com 86400 IN SOA ns483.websitewelcome.com. subdomain.example.com 86400 IN NS ns1.siteground145.com. subdomain.example.com 86400 IN NS ns2.siteground145.com. subdomain.example.com 14400 IN A 74.54.176.3 I'm not sure if the hostgator record should be classed as the SOA record but I don't know enough about it to be sure. Is this the source of the problem?

• best practice for last-modified and created dates

  I have a website with a handful (currently 3; I anticipate about a dozen when it's complete) of static html pages. I'd like to include "created" and "last-modified" dates in the pages for the benefit of visitors who arrive a week or a month or a few years from now. I expect anyone who cares to be viewing the source, so I could do: <!-- created yyyy-mm-dd, last-modified yyyy-mm-dd --> but I'd like to use something more standard (and elegant). I've found one reference to last modified (but only a mention in the text, not an actual code reference, so I'm not positive how to properly implement it) but not created. Is there a proper way to display both (or at least one) of these dates?

Rather than having load of categories like, for example, Builder, Electrician, Carpenter etc, we would like to have one word more general categories. So for example we have House, Computer, Education, Art etc. So a builder would be in category Home and a few others. Will this style negatively effect our SEO and ranking? And if so, should we abandon and go back to traditional categories and sub-categories?

  .com is the most preferable TLD most of the time, so many people choosing domain names have to pick between desiredname.something_else or totallydifferent.com. From wikipedia: The biz TLD was created to relieve some of the demand for domain names in the com top-level domain, and to provide an alternative for businesses whose preferred domain name in com had already been registered by another party. .org at least implies an organization, whereas .com is the most generic 'commercial'. But .biz seems like a total duplicate that doesn't seem in widespread use <pun>and deserves to be closed. </pun>. Does .biz have any advantages over .com? Are .biz domains worth registering if .com is already taken?

• quickest way to research a set of pages backlinks

  I have a list of 300+ pages (they were chosen based on which pages rank for a keyword I'm interested in) and I want to compile a list all the (known) inbound links to those pages. What's the fastest way to do this? It seems like the only tools out there-- Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOMoz, Majestic, require you to either a) manually export each set of links by hand, or b) get data at the domain level (e.g. Majestic's clique hunter). Does anyone know of any efficient way to do this? I ask because I'm about to write a bunch of code and I don't want to waste my time if there's another tool that will work. I know SEOMoz and Majestic have API's but I'm wondering if there's a more user-friendly option.
