    is there a way to import windows mouse settings to ubuntu 10.04. I really love ubuntu but my laptop touchpad is driving me crazy. for e.g. I can not seem to drag the window frame properly etc... It is not a driver issue I know this for sure. I think I am accustomed to windows mouse settings. Please if you have a setting that works really well can you share it.

  • Network connection through a wall

    I have a place where I want to set up a network connection through a normal residential wall where I can't cut any holes. I don't want to just set up a wireless system. Does anyone make a device that you place on either side of a wall to hook up a connection? Preferably something that can do 100Mb full duplex and can't be eavesdropped on with common hardware?

  • Dell All-in-One 810 CD software will no longer install

    I have a Dell All-in-One 810 printer from years ago and only recently installed it (a few months ago). Later I had reason to uninstall and re-install the printer but whenever I connect the printer Windows installs the printer drivers from its cache without the CD. How can I remove all traces of the drivers from the cache so that it will install only from the CD and not from the Windows driver cache?

  • Win-XP Browsers Hang on page load - (waiting for...)

    Hello, I’m having problems with my browsers hanging on loading pages on my desktop machine. I’m using Windows XP Pro with SP3 and fully updated except for IE 8. All three of my browsers, IE 7, Chrome and Firefox are having the same problems. Pages are not being loaded and are hanging on “waiting for …”. The browsers are waiting for the page being loaded or ad servers. Sometimes a page will load but the loading graphic continues to be displayed as if the page were still loading when the page appears to be fully loaded. The problem is bad enough that I can’t really use any of my browsers. I can eventually get most pages to load by stopping and restarting the page load. I have DSL modem with a wireless router and I have been able to eliminate the modem and router from being the source of my problem. My laptop doesn’t have any problems even when hardwired to the router and with the wireless connection disabled. I deleted the NIC and let XP re-install. Also tried a different network cable. Tried the same router port used in the laptop test. One clue that may be important is that I can’t connect to my router using the desktop machine…the page hangs while trying to connect. I can ping the router and I can quickly connect to the router using the laptop. I also can’t use the Windows update process – the page never fully loads. The problem affects other user accounts and even happens in safe mode. I am convinced the problem is with part of the O/S…some layer able to affect all of the browsers. The purpose of this post is to see if anyone has some ideas before I do a XP repair. I have done quite a bit of trouble-shooting: Ran a full anti-virus scan with AVG – no problems. Ran full scans with Spybot, MalwareBytes and Sophos anti-rootkit – no problems. Ran Chkdsk with both options checked. Ran Disk Clean up Defragged RE-installed IE7 Cleared all the browser caches Ran Ccleaner (registry tool) Ran HijackThis – nothing unusual (problem happens in safe mode too) Ran Process Explorer – no unusual processes Used System Restore and fell back several days – no change in the problem Booted to last known good configuration – no change in the problem Ran MicrosoftFixit50199.msi – no change in the problem Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated…I’m not looking forward to doing a repair on XP.     Im moving from an all in one to a router + access point. In doing googling and reasearch and talking to friends I ended up with router - cisco rv016 wifi access point - airnet 1142 lightweight access point. (lap1142n) In trying to set all this up and reading I think I bought the wrong access point. It seems I need a wireless controller? Can someone confirm that I should not have bought the lightweight one?

  • Hyper-V Blue Screens with Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS Graphics Card

    I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64. After installing the Hyper-V role and restarting the machine, I get a blue screen error and an immediate reboot. I have Googled the issue and tracked it down to the graphics card, so I uninstalled it, and then Windows loads fine. However, after installing the graphics driver again, the Blue Screen returns. The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?

  • Turn Windows 7 desktop into grayscale

    Is there a universal way to turn Windows 7 Aero desktop, all windows, etc into grayscale? I had an option to do this in Intel video drivers on my old laptop, now I have NVIDIA and don't know how to replicate this effect. There might be a shader or filter that would cause Aero to render stuff into grayscale, but I was unable to find anything. Or must it be explicitly supported by video driver as a bonus?

  • Easy management of multiple connections

    Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast?     I am using Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway as my modem and router right now and it works fine on a computer directly connected to Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway with wire but I am getting very low/poor signal strength on my wireless computer due to which I am looking to install DLink DIR-625 as my router but because when I connect Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway with DLink DIR-625 and connect my computer with wire to DIR-625 then I don’t get any Internet.(I get Internet when I connect my computer with wire with Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 and I know there is nothing wrong with DLink DIR-625).

  • Fixing Master Boot Record From Linux After Windows Corrupts It

    I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and setup Ubuntu 10.04 to dual boot alongside Windows 7. Regrettably, when activating the wireless, I did something in Windows 7 that caused it to overwrite or corrupt the master boot record, so now when I reboot I get the message "No bootable devices found". Is there an easy way to fix this, perhaps via a Linux LiveCD, or do I have to wipe out everything and reinstall?

  • Windows 7 removes boot camp drivers on reboot

    I'm installing boot camp on 64 bit windows 7 home premium from a leopard disc. During installation I get a couple of errors saying that some driver publishers are not registered or something and I install them anyway. After reboot windows tries to repair something and reboots again. When I finally log in, there is no boot camp any more. Any ideas how to solve this? Thanks btw, I'm using Macbook Pro 15 inch Santa Rosa (late 2007)

  • Ubuntu 10.04 live cd keyboard problem.

    Today I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 x64 .iso but when trying it out in live cd the keyboard of both my laptop and a microsoft branded one didn't work. I was planning into installing Ubuntu in a partition but I couldn't even put my info in the installation process to do it. Is this a problem with the .iso or the driver? because I'm afraid that if I can actually go ahead with the installation then the keyboard won't work after that too.
