    I am currently working on a project where i need to create some architecture, framework or any standards by which i can "at least" increase the cracking method for a software, i.e, to add to software security. There are already different ways to activate a software which includes online activation, keys etc. I am currently studying few research papers as well. But there are still lot of things that i want to discuss. Could someone guide me to some decent forum, mailing list or something like that? or any other help would be appreciated.

  • GWT forced height HTMLPanel

    Hello, I'm developing a GWT project, and I encountered a problematic cross-browsering problem. When using firefox, there are problems with the display of all the pages. I found the reason why : In UIBinder, each of my pages are wrapped by a "g:HTMLPanel" : at start and at the end of the xml file, to wrap the content of all the pages When doing this, the generated code of the panel goes like this : div style="width: 100%; height: 100%; .... The problem is that "height : 100%". If I remove it with firebug, the display is perfect. So my goal is to programatically remove that generated 100% height.. But no way to do it ! I tried everything : setHeight, setSize, working on the Element itself with getElement().methods()... I tried to do things like style.clear(), everything that could have a chance to work.. But in the generated code that "height: 100%" will ALWAYS be there. If I set it's height to "50%" or "50px" it has no effect at all. I even tried to give it an ID, then with pure javascript to change it's style, but no solution either.. Note : I'm sure that I'm working on the right element : adding a styleName, for example, works well. Any idea ? Your help would be really appreciated, I have no clue of how to remove this bit of generated code, and I've been looking for hours already :(:(:(:( Best regards, Nils

    Hey there, Something I can't wrap my head around is how secure web services are. For example we're writing a desktop application that will interact with data on one of our websites as well as local data. This data is sensitive though and the last thing we want is anybody calling the web services. I've not yet found anything that says web services has some kind of authentication methods and the only security I've seen people talk about is using certificates to encrypt the message. I'm no guru on this and would appreciate anyone's input and perhaps a link to somewhere that will explain this in simple terms. Thanks Jacques

  • Why html frame behave differently in Firefox and IE8 ?

    I use html frame on my webiste, it's been running for I while, usually I only use Firefox to surf the net, my site looks and functions ok, but today I suddenly found IE8 has a problem with the frame on my site, if I click on the top menu items, it's supposed to display the content in the lower part of the frame, it does this correctly in Firefox, but in IE8, it displays the content in the upper part of the frame and replaces the menu items.   • GWT FormPanel not submitting in IE - works fine on FF, Chrome, Safari

    I am using a simple FormPanel in GWT (com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.FormPanel). Once setting the action for the form, in Firefox, Safari, Chrome the submit method works fine while in IE (8) nothing happens when submit is called (I am submitting a form to paypal, not that it matters). I am on GWT 2.0. Is this some kind of known problem? Been looking around but couldn't find anything on the subject. Any help appreciated!

    I have a jquery content slider on a site I'm developing. I am having a strange problem that seems to be across all browsers and that is the slider slides the wrong distance if the page is refreshed via the refresh button. To re-create the problem please follow these steps - click this link http://www.aus-media.com/dev/site_BYS/index.html then click on the 'About Bikram Yoga' menu item at the bottom. Click on the 'more' and 'back' tabs on this page and you will notice it works fine. Then refresh the page by clicking the refresh button and try the more and back buttons again. I'm a bit of a javascript newby so I'm lost to why it's doing this. Any help would be great. Thanks Nik

It took a little while to get used to it and can occasionally require some clicking when visiting a new site to investigate why the site's not working and where I need to allow javascript from. Is the extra security worth it? Some of the controversy is discussed here. I suppose it boils down to a matter of whether javascript is a genuine threat to your computer or not. Any thoughts on this?

    Hi there. I need to know, where from is my script used (it's for sale, and i don't want any thiefs). I want to write on my server in file, IP of user, domain where from script has been runned, date, etc. I've tried fopen, fwrite, but is_file_writable returned that it isn't. File CHmods are 777, it parent catalog has too 777 chmods. There are three ways Upload to my account in public, private or protected mode Upload to department account in public, private or protected mode Upload to organization account in public, private or protected mode where public is visible to anyone, private to the group or person only and protected to anyone in the organization. All the files for an organization are stored in a directory say, /files/<organizationId>/, on file server like files +-- 234809 | +img1.jpg | +doc1.pdf +-- 808234 | +doc2.pdf I am storing file-path and privacy level in DB. So, I can control whether to show link to a file URL to an user -- on a given page. The problem is, I do not have any control over file's URL... so, if some one types the URL to img1.jpg in his browser's address bar, there is no way to know whether a logged in user is eligible to see img1.jpg.     I want to use encryption algorithm available in .Net Security namespace, however I am trying to understand how to generate the key, for example AES algorithm needs 256 bits, that 16 bytes key, and some initialization vector, which is also few bytes. Can I use any combination of values in my Key and IV? e.g. all zeros in Key and IV are valid or not? I know the detail of algorithm which does lots of xors, so zero wont serve any good, but are there any restrictions by these algorithms? Or Do I have to generate the key using some program and save it permanently somewhere?

  • jQuery offset() not working in some browsers, on some computers

    I have a problem positioning an element in certain browsers. I'm using the jQuery autocomplete found here. The div containing autocomplete values should be directly under the text box, and line up perfectly. The code sets the css left property of the div by using the left property generated by $(textbox).offset(); After un-packing the code to try and fix my problem, I get this: var a = $(textbox).offset(); element.css({ width: typeof e.width == "string" || e.width > 0 ? e.width : $(textbox).width(), top: a.top + textbox.offsetHeight, left: a.left }).show(); This seems like it should work, and it does work in Firefox. It doesn't work in IE8, Chrome. The top position is always correct, but the sometimes the div is too far to the left, or too far to the right. On different computers (all with Windows XP), it works in IE8... how can this be? I've also tested it on my Mac, OS 10.5. It works in Firefox, but not Safari. I've disabled plug-ins, changed screen resolutions, re-sized windows... It just inconsistently works in some places sometimes. Can anyone think of something I'm missing?

  • Is Rails default CSRF protection insecure

    By default the form post CSRF protection in Rails creates an authenticity token for a user that only changes when the user's session changes. One of our customers did a security audit of our site and flagged that as an issue. The auditor's statement was that if we also had a XSS vulnerability that an attacker could grab another user's authenticity token and make use of it for CSRF attacks until the user's session expired. But is seems to me that if we had an XSS vulnerability like that an attacker could just as easily grab another user's session cookie and login as that user directly. Or even just make call to our REST Api as the user being attacked. No secondary CSRF attack needed. Have I missed something? Is there a real problem with the default CSRF protection in Rails?

  • IE 6 bug? width: 987

    I'm having a very weird issue in IE6. If I set a div container do the width of 987px it adds a spacing between the container and an absolute positioned element inside. Any other width works fine, it's just 987. Is there something I'm not seeing?
