• How to merge/crosslink Javadoc?

  If you have the standard Javadoc for a few different projects, how can you process them to create a single unified set of documentation in which everything is cross-linked? Ideally, the result would be similar to the documentation for the various modules in the NetBeans Platform: http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/index.html but I've looked at their build scripts and they're predicated on you building everything from source. I'm looking for something which could also handle linking in Javadoc for third-party libraries, so I'd imagine it would need to be a post-processing operation. I can't be the first person to ever want this. Any ideas?

• How to build a Windows Forms email-aware text box?

  Hi, I'm building a C# client app that allows a user to communicate with one or more existing users in a system via an email-like metaphor. I'd like to present the user with a text entry box that auto-completes on known email addresses, and allows multiple delimiter-separated addresses to be entered. Ideally, I'd also like the email addresses to turn into structured controls once they've been entered and recognized. Basically, I'm modeling the UI interaction for adding users after Facebook's model. Are there any Windows Forms controls out there with the ability to do something like this? Is there any well-established terminology for a hybrid textbox / control list box (no, not a ComboBox) or something that I should be searching for? Thanks, -Patrick

• Web2py controllers with parameters?

  I am building an app using Web2py framework... I don't want to have to use the request object to get all of the querystring parameters, instead I'd like to build my controller with named parameters and have the router unpack the querystring (or form data) dictionary into the named parameters and call my controller. so instead of a controller method of create_user(): where I would use the global request() object and look through the vars list... I would prefer instead to have create_user(first_name, last_name, email): like I see in other MVC platforms. is this possible in Web2py already? or is there a plugin for it? or do I need to add that myself?

• ScrollViewer GridView XAML

  I am currently building a Windows 8 XAML C# application. In a page I have a scrollviewer for horizontal swiping and scrolling. I have several controls in it which work really well with the scorllviewer. But when you scroll and your cursor is on top of the ListView / GridView, then that control will handle scrollnig instead of the scrollviewer. With swiping this doesn't happen, but with the mouse scrollwheel it stops the scrollvieweing scroll. Does anybody know how to disable this behavior or have a workaround?

• Python and urllib2: how to make a GET request with parameters

  I'm building an "API API", it basically a wrapper for a in house REST web service that the web app will be making a lot of requests to. Some of the web service calls need to be GET rather than post, but passing parameters. Is there a "best practice" way to encode a dictionary into a query string? e.g.: ?foo=bar&bla=blah I'm looking at the urllib2 docs, and it looks like it decides by itself wether to use POST or GET based on if you pass params or not, but maybe someone knows how to make it transform the params dictionary into a GET request. Maybe there's a package for something like this out there? It would be great if it supported keep-alive, as the web server will be constantly requesting things from the REST service. Thanks!

• iOS 6&7: Storyboard, master detail ViewController when detailViewController is dynamic

  I'm building an app for iPhone, I want to use storyboard in XCode to do a simple selection from a tableView (let's call it master table view controller with couple rows) then through navigation it goes to next page and shows a detail view for that selection. I have in my code a base class representing my detailViewController, and have 2-3 driver classes of this base class representing what I want to show in detail view controller in second page, can someone give me an idea how to set destination viewController (detailViewController) dynamically to one of my child class based on the selected row in master view controller using storyboard? Usually you assign a class to destination class in storyboard for your detail view controller with using segue, but since my destination class could be a different (child class) how you set this in storyboard? • Quick methodology to show client a working demo

  I am not starting an argumentative discussion here and this post is not about career development, but from the commercial point of view: If a company was using ASP.Net MVC as a main methodology to build their web sites and application. However, ASP.Net MVC takes more time to show a functional application than ASP.Net Web Forms, for example, building domain models would take some time which obviously can't be represented on a UI at that current stage. My question is, if a client wants to see a functional demo application (just a proof of concept) so he knows that the company he is dealing with is professional and capable of doing that. Would it be better to do that demo in ASP.Net Web Forms only to show the client, and then work on the real application using ASP.Net MVC? If not, what are the (quick) alternatives?, I mean, if we tell the client to wait till we have a working demo (by ASP.Net MVC) we may lose the client and the whole project opportunity.

• Disable system sleep during long builds

  From time to time I need to run a full build of the entire tool chain for our software on my development machine. To save on power my I've got my dev machine set to go sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity. Building the full tool chain can take up to an hour and I'll often just go to lunch. However, if I forget to disable sleep I can return to a sleeping machine with the build only partially complete. What I'm looking for is a way to automatically disable sleep while MSBuild is running. Does anyone know of a simple way of doing this?

• What Web design tool would make a good CityDesk replacement?

  I am looking for a tool for building static template-based web sites, your typical brochure-ware for a non-profit or a personal site. I have used CityDesk, but that is out-of-date, unsupported, and has certain problems. Of course there are lots of tools out there, but I cannot find anything similar to CityDesk: WYSIWYG as well as HTML coding a templating system not overdesigned like, say, Dreamweaver built for developers who understand HTML/JS/CSS but easier to use than hand-coding of PHP, Ruby, or other templates in a text editor supporting the editing of pages by non-developers preferably free I'd also like it to be CSS-aware; and to have lots of free templates available. Or alternatively, static template-based sites are often developed nowadays on the Web using a CMS like Django; is that the way to go? Edit: Namo, DreamWeaver, NetObjects Fusion, Coffee Cup, Evrsoft First Page, and Microsoft Expression might be candidates. I'll appreciate comments on these based on the criteria above.

• NSAutoreleasePool carrying across methods?

  I'm building an iPhone application where I detach some threads to do long-running work in the background so as not to hang the UI. I understand that threads need NSAutoreleasePool instances for memory management. What I'm not sure about is if the threaded method calls another method - does that method also need an NSAutoreleasePool? Example code: - (void)primaryMethod { [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(threadedMethod) withObject:nil]; } - (void)threadedMethod { NSAutoreleasePool *aPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // Some code here [self anotherMethod]; // Maybe more code here [aPool drain]; } - (void)anotherMethod { // More code here } The reason I ask is I'm receiving errors that objects are being autoreleased with no pool in place, and are "just leaking." I've seen other questions where people didn't have autorelease pools in place at all, and I understand why an autorelease pool is needed. I'm specifically interested in finding out whether an autorelease pool created in (in this example) threadedMethod applies to objects created in anotherMethod.

• Another question about ASP.NET MVC and a separate project for helper classes

  I know this topic has been discussed to death, but there is one thing that I can't wrap my head around. I'm working on a Web Application using ASP.NET MVC and I come across a scenario where I need a helper class (this usually happens in the early stages of development. So I go ahead and create a helper project in my solution that I use to manage all of my Helper Classes. Now, do I have to build that project and dump the dll in the bin directory every time I make changes to is, or is there a way to have the main web application reference the classes contained within the separate project without the separate build process? I'm just looking for the easiest way to add helper classes without the hastel of building and moving the dll every time I make a change or addition. Also, sorry for the very newbie-esque question here. All of the web apps I've build in the past have all been in the same project (web forms, App_Code, etc).

• Dojo slider: update value dynamically

  I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ? There will be 6 buttons around the circle which when the user hovers over, and when one is hovered I want a circular bar to animate anti-clockwise. • Bulding an multi-platform SWT application using Ant

  I'm writing an SWT application which can be used on Windows (32/64 bit) and Mac OSX (32/64 bit). Apart from the JRE I rely on the SWT library found here. I can find four versions of the SWT library depending upon my target platforms (as mentioned above). When building my application, how can I compile using the correct SWT Jar? If possible, I'd like to try and avoid hard-coding the Jar version, platform and architecture. The SWT Jars are named like this: swt-win32-x86_64.jar swt-win32-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_64.jar (My project will be an open source project. I'd like people to be able to download the source and build it and therefore I've thought of including all the four versions of the SWT Jars in the source distribution. I hope this is the correct approach of publishing code relying on third-part libraries.) Thanks everyone.

• Override bits of a CSS class while inline?

  I have an html img that is being styled by a CSS class. I would like to override the width and height values used in that class under some circumstances. I'm building this img tag using something called a TagBuilder class, provided by Microsoft for the .Net system, which allows developers to assign attributes to an html element. In this case a CSS class has been assigned to the img tag, and I can assign width and height attributes individually, but they're not taking precedence over the values set in the CSS class. My tag looks like this currently: <img alt="my link" class="static" height="240" id="StaticImage" src="http://imageserver.com/myImage.jpg" width="240"> The static CSS class has width and height values of 300 each, and as you can see I'm trying to override them with 240. It's not working in this instance but can I do it without a second CSS class?

• Ruby on Rails - Create Entity with Relationship

  I'm new to rails, so be nice. I'm building a "rolodex" type application, and this question is about the best way to handle creating an entity along with several relationship entities at the same time. For (a contrived) example: My application will have a Person model, which has_one Contact_Info model. On the create.html.erb page for Person it makes sense for the user of my appliction to create the person, and the contact_info at the same time. It doesn't seem right to include details for creating a contact directly in the create view/controller for person. What's the rails way to handle this?

• Best way to show a loading screen in an iPhone app?

  I'm building what is essentially a web app. Every piece of data has to be fetched from a web API. So, every UITableView that I show takes some amount of time to fill with data and I'm struggling to find a good way to show the user a loading screen. Right now I'm popping up an action sheet, but that just seems a bit wrong. Ideally, I'd popup up a blank view over the tableview with "Loading..." on it, then fade it away when the data comes in, but I can't think of a way to do that in 8 places in my app without massive code duplication.

• Using asp.net mvc model binders generically

  I have a hierarchy of classes that all derive from a base type and the base type also implements an interface. What I'm wanting to do is have one controller to handle the management of the entire hierarchy (as the actions exposed via the controller is identical). That being said, I want to have the views have the type specific fields on it and the model binder to bind against a hidden field value. something like: <input type="text" name="model.DerivedTypeSpecificField" /> <input type="hidden" name="modelType" value="MyDerivedType" /> That being said, the asp.net mvc model binders seem to require the concrete type that they will be creating, because of that reason I would need to create a different controller for every derived type. Has anyone does this before or know how to manipulate the model binder to behave in this way? I could write my own model binder, but I'm not wanting anything past the basic model binding behavior of assign properties and building arrays on the target type. Thanks!

  Hello , I am building an Ethernet Application in which i will be sending packets from one side and receiving it on the other side. I want to calculate delay in packets at the receiver side as in RFC 3393. So I have to put a timestamps in the packet at the sender side and then take the timestamps at the receiver side as soon as i receive the packet . Subtracting the values i will get the difference in timestamps and then subtracting this value with subsequent difference i will get One way ipdv delay . Both the clocks are not synchronized . • Cache for large read only database recommendation

  I am building site on with Spring, Hibernate and Mysql. The mysql database contains information on coordinates and locations etc, it is never updated only queried. The database contains 15000 rows of coordinates and 48000 rows of coordinate connections. Every time a request is processed, the application needs to read all these coordinates which is taking approx 3-4 seconds. I would like to set up a cache, to allow quick access to the data. I'm researching memcached at the moment, can you please advise if this would be my best option?

• What is the proper location for a sqlite3 database file?

  Hi, Everyone: I'm using a sqlite3 database to store app's data. Instead of building a database within program, I introduced an existing db file: 'abc.sqlite' into my project and put it under my 'Resources' folder. So, I think this db file should be inside of 'bundle', so at my init function, I used following statement to read it out: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"abc" ofType:"sqlite"]; if(sqlite3_open([path UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) ... It's ok that this db can be opened and data can be retrieved from it. BUT, someone told me that it's better to copy this db file into user folder: such as 'Document'. So, my question is: is it ok to use this db from main bundle directly or copy it to user folder then use that copy. Which is better? Thank you very much!

• Web Service appears as website instead of developer web server

  I recently reimaged my PC and regrabbed one of our projects from Source Safe. In our solution we have a web service that normally runs on a server, however we can build the webservice on our localhost for debugging as well. However, now whenever I grab the project from source safe it is building the webservice as a website instead of a developer web server. This is causing a variety of issue, specifically I am no longer able to specify which port I would like that webservice to use. As a result I cannot connect to our database through my local webservice. How can I change the project in my solution that controls the webservice from a website to a developer web server?   I am building a website in python/django and want to predict wether a user submission is valid or wether it is spam. Users have an accept rate on their submissions, like this website has. Users can moderate other users' submissions; and these moderations are later metamoderated by an admin. Given this: user A with an submission accept rate of 60% submits something. user B moderates A's post as a valid submission. However, his moderations are often wrong, and his moderations' accept rate is a mere 30%. user C moderates A's post as spam. User C is usually right. His moderations' accept rate is 80%. How can I predict the chance of A's post being spam?
