• VLC desktop streaming

  Edit I stopped using VLC and switched to GMax FLV Encoder. It does a much better job IMO. Original post I am sending my desktop (screen) as an H264 video stream to another machine that saves it to a file using the follwoing command lines: Sender of the stream: vlc -I dummy --sout='#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=512,scale=0.5} :rtp{mux=ts,dst=192.168.0.1,port=4444}' Receiver of the stream: vlc -I rc rtp://@:4444 --sout='#std{access=file,mux=ps,dst=/home/user/output.mp4}' --ipv4 This works, but there are a few issues: The file is not playable with most players. VLC is able to playback the file but with some weirdness: = it takes about 10 seconds before the playback actually begins. = seeking doesn't work. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to fix these issues? EDIT: I made a little progress. The initial delay in playback is because the player is waiting for a keyframe. By forcing the sender of the stream to create a new key-frame every 4 seconds I could decrease the delay: :screen-fps=10 --sout='#transcode{vcodec=h264,venc=x264{keyint=40},vb=512,scale=0.5} :rtp{mux=ts,dst=192.168.0.1,port=4444}' The seeking problem is not solved however, but I understand it a little better. The RTP stream is saved as a file in its original streaming format, which is normally not playable as a regular video file. VLC manages to play this file, but most other players don't. So I need to convert it to a regular video file. I am currently investigating whether I can do this with ffmpeg if I provide it with an SDP file for the recorded stream. All help is welcome!

• Titanium Appcelerator - After enabling cloud services I get UnicodeDecodeError when compiling for Android

  I've got an app that has a UTF8 name (hebrew). I use the platform/android/AndroidManifest.xml file for this. I've managed to narrow it down to the Ti.cloudpush module. only when I enable this module I get the error. • Nginx not responding to remote IP

  I just installed Nginx listening on 8083 I can get a HTTP response when sending a HTTP request from the local machine. eg: curl -i localhost:8083 However, when I do the same from a remote machine, it just hangs until the ssh times out, or when the browser times out if accessed from the browser. • style problem with jQueryUI Autocomplete widget (using remote datasource)

  <input class="ui-autocomplete-input"/> represents the text field to be autocompleted. <ul>...</ul> contains the list of matching items from the text field input. It is added to the document by remote call as you type. <ul>...</ul> is added just inside the closing </body> tag. I was expecting the <ul>...</ul> to be placed just after the <input class="ui-autocomplete-input"/>. Because this does not happen, the <ul>...</ul> falls outside of the containing div and the resulting style is broken. Suggestions? Can I specify where the <ul>...</ul> gets placed in the document? • Mimic remote API or extend existing django model

  I am in a process of designing a client for a REST-ful web-service. What is the best way to go about representing the remote resource locally in my django application? For example if the API exposes resources such as: List of Cars Car Detail Car Search Dealership summary So far I have thought of two different approaches to take: Try to wrangle the django's models.Model to mimic the native feel of it. So I could try to get some class called Car to have methods like Car.objects.all() and such. This kind of breaks down on Car Search resources. Implement a Data Access Layer class, with custom methods like: Car.get_all() Car.get(id) CarSearch.search("blah") So I will be creating some custom looking classes. Has anyone encoutered a similar problem? Perhaps working with some external API's (i.e. twitter?) Any advice is welcome. PS: Please let me know if some part of question is confusing, as I had trouble putting it in precise terms.

  Hi, I want to make an application that executes a remote script. The user can create a script (probabily a LUA script) then stores it in the server. Then he can uses an API for execute the script. I was thinking that API could be a webservice. So my questions are: I need high performance to execute the script. So my first choice was LUA script. Someone has another sugestion? Cause I need high perfomance, I was thinking if the webservice is the best solution. Maybe I could create a TCP/IP Windows Service that hold the users request. It is important to say that I will have many user executing scripts at the same time. So I will have a concurrency problem. My scripts will query in a database. I will use Tokyo Cabinet or Tokio Tyrant. I think Tokio Tyrant is the only solution cause I will have many requests. For perfomance, Do I need to make a connection pooling? Is there anyway to share variables between webservices requests? To make the webservice or the Windows service i was thinking to use C++. Can someone help with these questions? thanks

• Dependency injection with web services?

  I've recently discovered a possible candidate for dependency injection in a .Net application I've designed. Due to a recent organizational policy, it is no longer possible to call smtp mail services from client machines on our network. So I'm going to have to refactor all the code in my application where it was previously calling the smtp object to send out mail. I created a new WCF web service on an authorized web server that does allow for smtp mail messaging. This seems to be a great candidate for dependency injection. I will create a new INotification interface that will have a method like 'void SendNotification(MailMessage msg)' and create a new property in my application where you can set this property to any class that implements this interface. My question tho, is whether it's possible, through dependency injection, to encapsulate the instantiation of a .NET WCF web service? I am fairly new at IoC and Dependency injection frameworks, so I am not quite sure if it can handle web service dependencies? I'm hoping someone else out there has come across this situation or has knowledge regarding this subject? cheers, John

• Custom Calculations in a Matrix - Reporting Services 2005

  I am writing a report to show gas usage (in gallons) used by each department. The request is to view each month and the gallons used by each department. A column is required to display what each departments target goal is, based on the gallons of gas they have used in a past time frame. Each departments target goal is x percent less than the total gallons used for said time frame. I currently have a matrix in Reporting Services with departments making up rows, months making up columns, and gallons filling the details. The matrix is being filled by dataset1. I have the data grouping as is requested for each month by each department. My problem is calculating the target goal. My thought was to create a second dataset (dataset2) that returns the gallons used based on the time frame requested. I grouped this data by department. I was hoping I could use the department field in each dataset to make sure the appropriate numbers were used. I added a new column which shows up next to the gallons field. As I attempted to build the Expression I found out that I could only grab the gallons used from dataset2 if I was summing the gallons field. This gives me the total gallons used by every department combined. I have tried to find resources with similar examples of what I am trying to accomplish but I cannot seem to come across one. I am trying to keep this as detailed as possible without making it too wordy. I would be more than happy to clarify or explain into further detail what I have written above if it is needed. If anyone has links, comments, or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. A very simple visual or what I am hoping to accomplish is below. Should I start a separate thread for checking internet status regularly and notifies all the threads when the status changes from one state to another? • Quartz.Net scheduler works locally but not on remote host

  Hi. I have a timed quartz.net job working fine on my dev machine, but once deployed to a remote server it is not triggering. I believe the job is scheduled ok, because if I postback, it tells me the job already exists (I normally check for postback however). The email code definitely works, as the 'button1_click' event sends emails successfully. I understand I have full or medium trust on the remove server. My host says they don't apply restrictions that they know of which would affect it. • How to get a fully transparent backbuffer in directx 9 without vista Desktop Window Manager

  I currently have an activex control that initiates a media (video/audio) framework another development group in my company developed and I am providing a window handle to that code. That handle is being used by their rendering plugin in the pipeline that uses Direct3d for rendering the video using that handle. I have seperate LPDIRECT3D9EX and LPDIRECT3DDEVICE9EX pointers that I initialize in my activex control. I am trying to clear a backbuffer to transparent and then use directx drawing primatives to draw on that backbuffer producing a transparent window with my drawing primatives over the streaming video on the directx surface below. It appears that clearing a device backbuffer with full alpha transparency is ignored by directx. d3ddev->Clear(0, NULL, D3DCLEAR_TARGET, D3DCOLOR_RGBA(0, 0, 1, 0 /*full alpha*/), 1.0f, 0); I can see the object I draw but they are drawn on top of a backbuffer that has the RGB color specified without the alpha value. The project linked (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/directx/umvistad3d.aspx) to in the stackoverflow question below does what I want but requires vista's Desktop Window Manager and won't work for XP. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/148275/how-do-i-draw-transparent-directx-content-in-a-transparent-window I have tried with D3DRS_ALPHABLENDENABLE true with configured blend with no avail. I have tried using ColorFill with alpha after retrieving the backbuffer with GetBackBuffer but this doesn't work either. (again only RGB is used) Finally I have tried creating a texture, selecting a surface, colorfilling that surface with a fully transparent alpha value, then loading that surface onto the backbuffer but only the RGB values appear to be used. I have checked the capabilities using the DXCapsViewer.exe and the D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8 backbuffer format that I am using for the backbuffer is valid so it can't be that. Has anyone gotten a transparent backbuffer in directx to work in XP?

• IO operation taking long time for files in remote server

  I have files of size 150 MB each in a remote server in a different domain in the network. I am accessing them thorugh UNC path. I want to read the file content and perform a basic string search. When I try reading the files line by line, the operation just don't finish and takes long time, more than 30 minutes. However when I copy those files to my local machine, the same code reads and performs the string search in less than 5 seconds. I don't have .NET framework installed in the server so I have to do this from my machine. I want to perform all this through C# code in .NET framework 3.5 so I don't want to explictly ftp all the files to my machine before performing this operation.   Have created a very simple Web Service (asmx) in Visual Studio 2010 Professional, and am trying to use the auto-generated unit test cases. I get something that seems quite familiar on this site: The web site could not be configured correctly; getting ASP.NET process information failed. Running the tests on IIS rather than ASP.NET Development Server 2. Adding and then removing the XML fragment to my Web Service's .config file 3. Giving the MACHINE\ASPNET account Full control to the local folder My current questions: 1. Why am I being bothered with this instrumentation / code coverage DLL, when this doesn't seem to be something that ships with Visual Studio 2010 Professional? Is there any way I can turn it off? 2. I'm placing the node under in Web.config - is that the correct node? 3. Is it possible to bind to a web service without using the webby test attributes? I've seen other people advising making the Web Service as light-weight as possible. Example: One of my apps retrieves some content from a external resource in a fixed interval. I have imagined the following scenarios: Run it in a single machine. Problem: if this instance falls, the content won't be retrieved Run it in each machine of the cluster. Problem: the content will be retrieved multiple times Have it in each machine of the cluster, but run it only in one of them. Each instance will have to check some sort of common resource to decide whether it its turn to do the task or not. When I was thinking about the solution #3 I have wondered what should be the common resource. I have thought of creating a table in the database, where we could use it to get a global lock. Is this the best solution? How does people usually do this? By the way it's a C# .NET WCF app running on Windows Server 2008

  Hello, I am trying to send a file from the phone running Android 1.5 to a server on a desktop. I wrote some code, which works on emulator, but on the phone it doesn't. I'm connecting to the network through WiFi. It works, I can access the internet through my phone and I've configured my router. The application stops when I'm trying to connect. • Transitioning from desktop app written in C++ to a web-based app

  We have a mature Windows desktop application written in C++. The application's GUI sits on top of a windows DLL that does most of the work for the GUI (it's kind of the engine). It, too, is written in C++. We are considering transitioning the Windows app to be a web-based app for various reasons. What I would like to avoid is having to writing the CGI for this web-based app in C++. That is, I would rather have the power of a 4G language like Python or a .NET language for creating the web-based version of this app. So, the question is: given that I need to use a C++ DLL on the backend to do the work of the app what technology stack would you recommend for sitting between the user's browser and are C++ dll? We can assume that the web server will be Windows. Some options: Write a COM layer on top of the windows DLL which can then be access via .NET and use ASP.NET for the UI Access the export DLL interface directly from .NET and use ASP.NET for the UI. Write a custom Python library that wraps the windows DLL so that the rest of the code can be written. Write the CGI using C++ and a C++-based MVC framework like Wt Concerns: I would rather not use C++ for the web framework if it can be avoided - I think languages like Python and C# are simply more powerful and efficient in terms of development time. I'm concerned that my mixing managed and unmanaged code with one of the .NET solutions I'm asking for lots of little problems that are hard to debug (purely anecdotal evidence for that) Same is true for using a Python layer. Anything that's slightly off the beaten path like that worries me in that I don't have much evidence one way or the other if this is a viable long term solution.

As we have both server and client in java we may have some benefits (???) in sharing Engine class between server and client ( i.e we may put in a common jar file to be added to both client and server classpath ) Some benefits would be : we keep specific operations like 'brushEngine' in same place build is faster as we do not need in our case to generate java code for client classes but to use them from the server build) if we later change server implementation for 'brushEngine' this is reflected automatically in client . Questions: How to share below detailed Engine class using java 6 tools ( i.e wsimport , wsgen etc )? Is there other tools for java that can achieve this sharing ? Is sharing a case that java 6 web services support is missing ? Can this case be reduced to other web service usage patterns? Thanks.   Hi all, I am writing a web app with asp.net, c# and jquery. Most of the time I'm writing dynamic html to the browser and using different web services to get the content needed. This is when I start using jquery's live method: $('.filter').live('click', function(event) { WriteProducts(0, selectedCategoryId, PopulateDivs); }); Now from some reason, the request passed to the server becomes this: http://localhost:8080/MyApp/MyAppServices.svc/GetProducts?categoryId=**%2217%22**&fromIndex=0&toIndex=8&randomNumber=%221271799783355%22 where did these %22 come from? If I take them out, the request passes successfully. I have no idea who inserted these %22, but they are causing havoc here! Guys, do you perhaps have a clue?

• Desktop-like UI implementations for Java web applications?

  At work we're discussing upgrading our view layer for our web application. We're currently running an old and "modified" version of FreeMarker Classic, which is a pain to work with. One of our developers suggested using a Component UI style architecture similar to desktop style environments. Essentially, this would mean that you would build custom HTML components as Java Classes that the controller would render into the Document view. This would completely take away the need to write HTML into a view layer. The Components would generate the view layer for you. For instance, the following rendered HTML: <h1>I am a title</h1> <p>I am a paragraph.</p> Would be generated by doing something like: String titleString = "I am a title"; html.elements.Heading heading = new html.elements.Heading(Heading.H1, titleString); String paraString = "I am a paragraph."; html.elements.Paragraph paragraph = new html.elements.Paragraph(paraString); PrintWriter somePrintWriter = new PrintWriter(); Document document = new Document(); document.addElement(heading); document.addElement(paragraph); document.compose(somePrintWriter); The above code is just an example, don't critique the names or style, I just wrote it for a quick demonstration of what we may be trying to accomplish. I'm trying to determine if this has been done before in Java, and if so if there are any links I can be pointed to.
