    When you take clips and turn them into computer playable files, whether .TS or .MOV or .MPG, .MP4, .VOB, etc., do you as the producer actually manually write into some field in a "Details" section of your video editor what the video length is, so that it can be read by the eventual user's video player? Or is this activity performed automatically by the video editor? I'm asking because: when a mouse is passed over a file line item in Windows 7 Shell (Windows Explorer) a little box is displayed where the mouse meets the file line item and provides simple name and size properties, one of which (if it's a media file) is run length. How does that figure get there into the file (later to be read be Windows or OS X)? Thanks for any info.

  • jQuery ajax link, returned data includes a from that wont submit

    Hi everyone, I have a problem with the returned data from a ajax request. Basically when I click on a link it runs a ajax request to load some html into a div, that part is working fine the problem comes when the data has been loaded. Part of the html loaded is a form, this form works fine if I load the page directly but when it is loaded through ajax into the div it wont submit but the rest of the links in the html work fine.   • How to let the user choose between typing price inclusive VAT or exclusive VAT in TextField?

    I am implementing an back-office application where the user type in prices for products. Sometimes it is preferred to type the price inclusive value-added-tax, VAT and sometimes exclusive VAT. How do I best let the user choose between the inclusive or exclusive VAT in a usability perspective? I could have two TextFields above eachother one inclusive VAT and one exclusive, and reflect the input. But I don't think that reflecting the input in another TextField at realtime is good when it comes to usability, it distracts the user. I could also have two Radiobuttons above the TextField or below, or maybe besides the TextField that let the user make the choice. Or should I have a single button for turning between inclusive/exclusive VAT? like On/Off-buttons. But what text should I have on the button and how should the button be designed? I think this is good because it takes less space and it is easy to have it close to the TextField, but it's very hard to design a good button in a usability perspective. Please give me some recommendations. Maybe someone of you works with usability or have seen a similar problem.

I have 2 viewcontroller, in the first there is a mapView that implements the function "calloutAccessoryControlTapped" to tap a button on an annotation on the mapView; in the second there is just a UITextView.   • Print raw data to a thermal-printer using .NET

    I'm trying to print out raw ascii data to a thermal printer. I do this by using this code example: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322091 but my printer prints always only one character and this not until I press the form feed button. If I print something with notepad the printer will do a form feed automatically but without printing any text. The printer is connected via usb over a lpt2usb adapter and Windows 7 uses the "Generic - Generic / Text Only" driver. Anyone knows what is going wrong? How is it possible to print some words and do some form feeds? Are there some control characters I have to send? And if yes: How do I send them?   • Windows Color Calibrator Does Not Retain Color Settings

    When I try to calibrate the monitor using Windows 7's color calibrator, the monitor rejects changes to the color settings. For example, one of my monitors has a blueish tinge. If I click my mouse to tone down the blue and then let go of my mouse the monitor will go back to being blueish. At the moment, I am getting around the problem by using the color controls in the monitor's on screen displays. How can I get the color calibrator to work? Update: I tried checking the color settings in the ATI Radeon Catalyst Control Center and noticed that I can't do anything. The "Reactivate ATI color controls" button keeps flashing and any changes I try to make are discarded instantly.

  • What is the right way to scale a Flex application up to fullscreen?

    Fullscreen mode and I have been battling for a while in this Flex application, and I'm coming up short on Google results to end my woes. I have no problem going into fullscreen mode by doing a Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;, but the rest of the content just sits there in the top, left corner at it's original size. All right, says I, I'll just do a stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL and make it figure out how to pull this off. And it looks like it does. Except that when you mouse over the individual checkboxes and buttons and various components, they all fidget slightly. Just a slight jump up or down as they resize...on mouse over. Well, this is frustrating, but bearable. I can always just invoke invalidateSize() explicitly for all of them. But for the comboboxes. The ones at the bottom have their menus go off the bottom of the screen, and when I pop out of fullscreen mode, their drop downs cut off half way. I have no idea how to fix that. Can someone step in here, and put me out of my misery?   • X locks up with konqueror on comics.com

    If I browse to comics.com using konqueror under KDE on Fedora 11, X will, after a delay, lock up. The mouse will move, but no keyboard input is recognized, and the screen does not react to the mouse passing over objects on screen. I am able to ssh into the machine and issue shutdown -r now and have that work. The machine is a Dell XPS M1330 with Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c), and Fedora 11 is fully updated. Visiting the same site in Firefox does not cause a lockup. I am booting with nomodeset since it won't boot into X otherwise. I tried the other two accel options: EXA (still locks up) and XAA (X won't start). Any suggestions on how I can debug this? bugzilla

  • Use trackball to scroll, zoom, etc

    I've got a Logitech Marble Trackball (which is great, btw). By setting one of the extra buttons as a "middle" mouse button, when I click it, many apps (like browsers) will start "scrolling mode" so that moving the trackball will scroll up and down. Most of the time, this is sufficient, but I figure it would be way cooler if I could have several "modes" to do different things like zooming, panning, rotating (particularly in GIMP). Then when I hold CTRL, CTRL+SHIFT, or some such, it would enter a new mode, and the trackball would behave differently. I found a couple questions similar to this that suggest using AutoHotKey, but I haven't found an example script to do this, nor can I find out to track mouse movements within AHK. Any pointers? hotkey for scrollwheel remedy for a no scroll wheel trackball? Thanks!

  • Auto-hide OS X menu bar?

    Is there a way to auto-hide the OS X menu bar, like is possible with the Dock? There was an application "Menufela" that did this for Tiger, but I'm not aware of anything similar for Leopard/Snow Leopard.. I'm almost certain this is (programatically) doable, because in full-screen applications the menu bar is hidden, and reappears when you mouse the mouse is at the top of the screen.. As soon as I type too fast (my guess is if it's any faster than the data actually returns) the entire page refreshes (doing a postback?) instead of just the update panel. I've also found that instead of typing, if I just click the button really fast it starts doing the same thing. Is there any way to prevent it from doing this? Possibly prevent 2nd requests until the first has been completed? If I'm not on the right track then anyone have any other ideas? Thanks, Matt

  • Changing JButton background colour temporarily?

    Hi, I'm super new to Java, and in need of some help. I'm making a little java desktop application where I basically have a grid of 4 JButtons ( 2 x 2 grid), and I need the background colour of individual JButtons to change, and after one second, change back to the original colour (the game I'm trying to make is like Simon, where you have to follow a pattern of buttons that light up). I have a vector that contains randomly generated numbers in the range of 1 to 4, and I want to be able to get each element from the vector and get the corresponding button to change to a different colour for one second (for example, if the vector contains 2 4 1, I would want button 2 to change, then button 4 to change, then button 1 to change). Is this possible or is there a better way to go about doing this with something other than JButtons? How do I implement this? Also, I'm running Mac OS X, which apparently (based on some things I've read on forums) doesn't like JButtons background changing (I think it's because of system look and feel), how can I change this so it works on mac?     Hi there, I have a simple application to store address details and edit them. I have been away from VB for a few years now and need to refreash my knowledge while working to a tight deadline. I have a general Sub responsible for displaying a form where user can add contact details (by pressing button add) and edit them (by pressing button edit). This sub is stored in a class Contact. The way it is supposed to work is that there is a list with all the contacts and when new contact is added a new entry is displayed. If user wants to edit given entry he or she selects it and presses edit button Public Sub Display() Dim C As New Contact C.Cont = InputBox("Enter a title for this contact.") C.Fname = frmAddCont.txtFName.Text C.Surname = frmAddCont.txtSName.Text C.Address = frmAddCont.txtAddress.Text frmStart.lstContact.Items.Add(C.Cont.ToString) End Sub I call it from the form responsible for adding new contacts by Dim C As New Contact C.Display() and it works just fine. However when I try to do something similar using the edit button I get errors - "Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'AddressBook.Contact'."   • UIImagePickerController shows last picture taken instead of camera input

    I'm having a strange behaviour within my app. For taking pictures i'm using the following pretty standard code for displaying the UIImagePickerController: UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.delegate = self; picker.allowsEditing = NO; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; [self presentViewController:picker animated:YES completion:nil]; It works perfectly fine the first time I tap the button which calls this action. The strange behaviour starts when I tap that button again. The UIImagePickerController starts again BUT it doesnt show the input from the camera anymore. It shows the last picture I've taken. More Details of this state: Tapping on the image shows the yellow square of the auto focus. (which it actually uses to focus the camera correctly) When I tap on the ImageCapture button - the correct image is taken and presented on the screen. If I take a picture and press 'Retake' the regular camera image is presented as input. More weirdness: It has nothing to do with the iPad I'm using. Creating a new example app which only has button which calls the code from above everything works perfectly fine. I assume it has something to do with the configuration of the app. Therefore I checked everything but could not find any differences which may cause this issue. Thanks in advance for any advice! Update: I do implement the UIImagePickerControllerDelegate in order to dismiss the UIImagePickerController.

    I'm having a hard time understanding why the following is happening (and how to fix it). I've created an application using the split-view based application. I've added a UiBarButtonItem called showTheModal which calls this method found in RootViewController.m: - (IBAction)showTheModal:(id)sender { theModalController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFullScreen; theModalController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCrossDissolve; [self presentModalViewController:theModalController animated:YES]; if ([detailViewController popoverController] != nil) [[detailViewController popoverController] dismissPopoverAnimated:YES]; The BarButtonItem of course, is shown at the bottom of the Default Root Controller (left side of the of the split view in landscape) or at the bottom of the popup (if in landscape). The modal view is dismissed by a button placed in a toolbar. It calls the following: [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated: YES]; The problem I'm having is if rotate the screen, while the modal is up. Here is what happens in different scenarios (start refers to the orientation when the showTheModal button is hit, end refers to the orientation when I hit the dismissModal button). 1)Start landscape, end landscape: Everything appears fine. willHideViewController and willShowViewController methods are not called in the RootViewController (as expected) 2) Start landscape, end portrait: UI appears fine. willHideViewController is run TWICE (WHY?) 3) Start portrait, end portrait: UI appears fine. willHideViewController is run once (as expected) 4) Start portrait, end landscape: The 'Root List' button remains in the detail view (right side of the split view. Neither willHideViewController and willShowViewController are invoked (WHY??) Any thoughts as to why #2 and #4 don't behave quite the expected way?

    I have a laptop running linux. In my xorg configuration, I have DPMS setup so that the screen automatically turns off during several events. Here's my issue. When I close the lid of the laptop, the screen goes off as expected, but if a mouse event occurs (like if something bumps into the table...) then the screen turns back on even though it is closed (I can see the light through the side of the laptop). Is there a way to prevent the screen from turning on during a mouse event if the lid is closed?

    When designing a good Web GUI what expectations can we expect from an end user? I've come up with the following, but I wonder if there are any others which can suggest.. If I click on a hyperlink it will take me to another page/part of this page If I tick/untick a checkbox it might alter the page state (enable/disable elements) If I click on a button I expect it to do something to data. If I click on a button I expect something to happen immediately (either to the current page, or for me to be taken to another page) If I have clicked on a hyperlink and it has taken me to another page, I expect to be able to use the Back button to get back to the previous page in a state similar to that which I left it in If I change something in a form, I can change it back to its previous value if necessary Unless I click on the 'Submit' button nothing should happen to my data. If I bookmark/favourite a page then it should show the same related data each time I visit it If text is underlined and looks like a link, it should be a link and act as one The reasoning behind this question is more a 'UI from hell' one. For example I have come across pages which checking a tickbox next to a record will delete it, straight away, via ajax. To me that just seems wrong, a checkbox is a toggle - something which a delete operation definitely isn't!

  • Adding a Layout to bottom of the screen inside a ScrollView in Landscape mode

    I have the following layout which works in Portrait mode: the Layout with the id LinearLayout02 is placed at the bottom of the screen. The problem appears when flipping to Lanscape mode, when the #LinearLayout02 is placed at the top of the screen. The question is how do I position #LinearLayout02 at the bottom of the screen in both Portrait and Landscape mode?     I'm a newbie in desktop recording and screencasting. I didn't find a suitable free application to do all the things I want it to do, but I did enjoy using jing. I would expect such an application to have these features: choose the whole desktop, a region, a window to record zoom in an area, and camera move save the recorded movie to a compressed format have basic editing tools have the mouse highlighting feature (either a sonar blip or something similar) highlight window/field on the screen, any trick will do display pressed keys/key combinations (like iphone does) So the question is: Which free desktop recording/screencasting software would you recommend on windows? It doesn't have to have all those features, just tell me your favorable experiences. Please suggest tools that would do mouse/keys/areas highlight tricks. I'm open to commercial software too, but I would prefer a free one. Thank you!

My answer keeps on being 666 instead of 18.
