  • Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock problem in chrome, not registering

    Hello! I am using Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock to register a variable that tells the site to show something for the user (Don't need to get in to what is show). I am going to try to use RegisterStartupScript instead and see if i get any other result, i will get back on that. In my site i use jquery to look for that variable and do something if it exists. This works very well in IE 6,7,8 & FF but not in Chrome. In Chrome it works sometimes but most of the time it does not work, the variable does not get inserted on the page. The variable is beeing inserted in the Page_PreRender. Someone that has got a workaround for this or have experienced the same problem? Thanks

  • Asynchronous operations performance

    One of the features of asynchronous programming in .NET is saving threads during long running operation execution. The FileStream class can be setup to allow asynchronous operations, that allows running (e.g.) a copy operation without virtually using any threads. To my surprise, I found that running asynchronous stream copy performs not only slower, but also uses more processing power than synchronous stream copy equivalent. Is there any benchmark tests were done to compare a synchronous vs asynchronous operation execution (file, network, etc.)? Does it really make sense to perform an asynchronous operation instead of spanning separate thread and perform synchronous operation in server environment if the asynchronous operation is times slower than the synchronous one?

    Hi The MSDN library entry to Enumerable.ElementAt(TSource) Method says "If the type of source implements IList, that implementation is used to obtain the element at the specified index. Otherwise, this method obtains the specified element." Let's say we have following example: ICollection<int> col = new List<int>() { /* fill with items */ }; IList<int> list = new List<int>() { /* fill with items */ }; col.ElementAt(10000000); list.ElementAt(10000000); Is there any difference in execution? or does ElementAt recognize that col also implements IList< although it's only declared as ICollection<?   • Performance of std::pow - cache misses???

    I've been trying to optimize a numeric program of mine, and have run into something of a mystery. I'm looping over code that performs thousands of floating point operations, and just 1 call to pow nevertheless, that call takes 5% of the time... That's not necessarily a critical issue, but it is odd, so I'd like to understand what's happening. When I profiled for cache misses, VS.NET 2010RC's profiler reports that virtually all cache misses are occurring in std::pow... so... what's up with that? Is there a faster alternative? I tried powf, but that's only slightly faster; it's still responsible for an abnormal number of cache misses. Why would a basic function like pow cause cache-misses?

  • Project links in RAD Studio Welcome page do not work

    Hi, As you know, welcome page in RAD Studio shows a list of recent projects, and you can open each project by clicking on its name. My problem is that if the project is located somewhere My Documents folder, then the link in welcome page does not work! It works fine for projects which are located outside My Documents, but no links to anything inside My Documents work. It's been a while I am having this problem both in RAD Studio 2009 and RAD Studio 2010 on Windows Vista and Windows 7 (64-bit). I tried running the IDE as administrator to see if it works, but it didn't. I think it must be something related to IE security settings. Any idea? Thanks

  • Slow performance when utilizing Interop.DSOFile to search files by Custom Document Property

    I am new to the world of VB.NET and have been tasked to put together a little program to search a directory of about 2000 Excel spreadsheets and put together a list to display based on the value of a Custom Document Property within that spreadsheet file. Given that I am far from a computer programmer by education or trade, this has been an adventure. I've gotten it to work, the results are fine. The problem is, it takes well over a minute to run. It is being run over a LAN connection. When I run it locally (using a 'test' directory of about 300 files) it executes in about 4 seconds. I'm not sure even what to expect as a reasonable execution speed, so I thought I would ask here. The code is below, if anyone thinks changes there might be of use in speeding things up.   • Preview man-page without installing package.

    Hi I've checked out some typical open source project which is using auto-tools. I want to hack a bit on this package, but I would also like to change something in the man-page of the package. The man-page source is found project-name/doc/project-name.1. I just made a small change, and now I want to preview that change, without having to actually do a make install of the project. How do I do that? I tried stuff like: man -M . 1 project-name But it does not work, neither does the various variations I have tried. This sounds like a simple problem, but I can't seem to find anything by googling on the problem, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Thanks.

  • jQuery .ajax() call to page method works in FF only when async is false

    I'm calling a page method using .ajax() and it works in IE8 whatever the value of async is. However, in FF3.6, it only works with async set to false. When async is set to true, in Firebug, I just see status aborted. The page validates.     I'm trying to use modrewrite to proxy http:://myserver/cam1 to an internal, http-auth protected server at http:://admin:[email protected]/cgi/mjpg/mjpg.cgi No matter what I try, though, requests to http:://myserver/cam1 always prompt me for the username and password. I've tried all of these to no avail.   • jQuery.load() Retrieving partial page content causes duplicate ID in DOM

    Hello all, I currently have a JS function that allows me to load partial content from another page into the current page using jQuery.load() However I noticed when using this that I get a duplicate ID in the DOM (when inspecting with FireBug) This function is used in conjuction with a Flash Building viewe so it does not contain any code to retrieve the URL from the anchor tag. function displayApartment(apartmentID) { $("#apartmentInfo").load(siteURL + apartmentID + ".aspx #apartmentInfo", function () { //re-do links loaded in $("a.gallery").colorbox({ opacity: "0.5" }); }); } The code above works just fine in retrieving the content, however it just bugs me that when inspecting with firebug I get something like this. <div id="apartmentInfo"> <div id="apartmentInfo"> <!-- Remote HTML here..... --> </div> </div> Can anyone please suggest anything on how to remove the duplicate div?     Lets say I was to develop a small forum script, what types of topics pages would you find most helpful? I'd like to get an idea of what should be added. Viewing popular phpBB forums, they offer "Unanswered Posts", "Active Topics" and "Unread Topics". Obviously I'm already including a page to view your own topics and posts. My other question was, is it a big deal that I'm not tracking whether or not you've read a topic? I already provide the page showing all topics you've participated in... just not ones that you've "viewed". Would this be something forum users would only end up complaining about? I don't like the options available to track topics that are read/not read, that's the only reason I am not considering adding this feature at this stage. Many thanks everyone for any help.

    I have edited my apache vhost file in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled to add the following: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.mysite.cn ServerAlias mysite.cn *.mysite.cn DocumentRoot /home/user/static/mysite/cn </VirtualHost> It still points to the default site on the server when i browse to mysite.cn but when i enter anything along the lines of ww3.mysite.cn it point to the new correct document root any clues of what the problem could be as i am lost.

    Hi, I'm trying to optimize my page load times, and I'm using Pingdom to test the site response times. However, I'm not exactly sure what the various components of the "time bar" mean. Example link: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?url=http://neosmart.net/forums//&id=2230361 According to them, the portion of the bar that is yellow is the time between "start" and "connect" and the portion of the bar that is green is the time between "connect" and "first byte" with the blue section being the actual transfer time (time between "first byte" and "last byte"). If I'm trying to the first two (which take very long in my case), what's the recommended course of action? Thanks.

  • silverlight 3 navigation page not availble in VS as item to add

    I've recently upgraded my computer from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I've re-installed VS 2008 web express, and re-installed all the silver light sdk's, tools, etc. But now when I want to add a Silverlight Navigation Page, it is not avialble to me in the list of items that can be added. The navigation dll is installed, as my project existed before the OS upgrade. The program still runs just fine as is, but I want to add another navigation page item to the project, and I'm stumped for how to do it. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve
