  OK, so I bought a 46" screen for the office yesterday, and with the imminent risk of being accused for setting up an "elaborate World Cup procrastination scheme", I'd better show my colleagues what it's meant for ;) Looking at my simple sketch, and at these great projects from which I was inspired, I would like to get some input on the following: Pseudocode for the skeleton: As some methods should be called every 24 hours ("Today's date in the heading"), others at 60 second intervals ("Twitter results"), what would be a good approach using JavaScript (jQuery) and PHP? EDIT: Alsciende: I can agree that #1 and #8 are too vague. Therefore I remove #8 and try to clarify #1: With "Pseudocode for the skeleton", I basically mean could this be done entirely using JavaScript timers and how would you set up the various timers? Library for Google Analytics: Which libraries support the Google Analytics API and can produce neat charts. Preferably HTML5, JavaScript-based like Protovis. Library for Twitter: Which libraries would you recommend for fetching twitter search results and latest tweets from profiles. Libraries for Typography/CSS/HTML5: Trying to learn some HTML5 etc. in the process, please advice on any other typography/css libraries that could be of relevance. Scraping/Parsing? I'll give you a concrete example: Trying to fetch today's menu from this restaurant's website, how would you go about? (it's in Swedish - but you get the point - sorry ;) ) Real-time stats? I'm using the WassUp-plugin for WordPress to track real-time visitors on our website. Other logging software (AWStats etc.) is probably also installed on the webserver. Any ideas on how to extract information from these and present in real-time on the dashboard? Browser choice? Which Browser and OS would you pick? Stable, Full-screen, HTML5.

• Horizontal and vertical center text in html

  I have a div with a background image that needs to be centered horizontally and vertically. On top of that image, I also want to display a 1-line text, also centered horizontally and vertically. I managed to get the image centered, but the text is not centered vertically. I thought vertical-align:middle would do the trick. • How to push a new feature to a central Mercurial repo?

  I'm assigned the development of a feature for a project. I'm going to work on that feature for several days over a period of a few weeks. I'll clone the central repo. Then I'm going to work locally for 3 weeks. I'll commit my progress to my repo several times during that process. When I'm done, I'm going to pull/merge/commit before I push. What is the right way push my feature as a single changeset to the central repo? I don't want to push 14 "work in progress" changesets and 1 "merged" changeset to the central repo. I want other collaborators on the project to see only one changeset with a significant commit message (such as "Implemented feature ABC"). I'm new to Mercurial and DVCS so don't hesitate to provide guidance if you think I'm not approaching that the right way. <My own answer> So far I came up with a way of reducing 15 changeset to 2 changeset. Suppose changesets 10 to 24 are "work in progress" changesets. I can 'hg collapse -r 10:24 -m "Implemented feature ABC"' (14 changesets collapsed into 1). Then, I must 'hg pull' + 'hg merge' + 'hg commit -m "Merged with most recent changes"'. But now I'm stuck with 2 changesets. I can no longer 'hg collapse', because pull/merge/commit broke my changeset sequence. Of course 2 changesets is better then 15 but still, I'd rather have 1 changeset. </My own answer>

  Hi, I am getting very strange behaviour on UIDatePicker. I have a view with date picker declared in .h file as IBOutlet UIDatePicker *datePicker; with property nonatomic and retain. datePicker is properly linked in IB file. In the code I am setting the minimum, maximum, initial date and action to call for UICOntrolEventValueChanged using following code If (!currentDate) { initialDate = [NSDate date]; } else { initialDate = currentdate; } [datePicker setMinimumDate:[NSDate date]]; [datePicker setMaximumDate:[[NSDate date] addTimeInterval:5 * 365.25 * 24 * 60 * 60]]; // to get upto 5 years [datePicker setDate:initialDate animated:YES]; [datePicker addTarget:self action:@selector(getDatePickerValue:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; In getDatePickerValue, I get the new date using datePicker.date. When the view is closed (using a done button), I get the current value of the date using datePicker.date. Now if the view is called with no 'currentDate', the picker returns 'todays date'. This is what happens the 'first' time my pickerView is called. Each subsequent call to the view, with no 'current date' gives me a different and later date from today. So, first time I get today's date say 9 Jun 2010 second time datePicker.date returns 10 Jun 2010 third time 11 Jun 2010 and so on. Though its not always incremental, but mostly it is. I have put NSLogs, and verified the initial date is set correctly. The problem is only on the device (on OS 3.0), the issue is not replicated on simulator. I can't find what I have done wrong. I hope somebody else has come across similar problem and can help me resolve this.

Code duplication when can be avoided is punished by limiting the bandwith speed to 64Kbit for a period of one week. Using ugly hacks instead of refactoring code is punished by cutting the Internet connection for a period of one month. Usage of technologies older than 5/10 years is punished by restricting the web access to the sites last updated 5/10 years ago for a period of one month. Please feel free to modify and extend the list. We'll need to have it ready before we proceed formally with the country foundation. A purchase fund will be established shortly. Everyone is invited to participate.

• CATransaction: Layer Changes But Does Not Animate

  I'm trying to animate part of UI in an iPad app when the user taps a button. I have this code in my action method. It works in the sense that the UI changes how I expect but it does not animate the changes. It simply immediately changes. • How can I work out what events are being waited for with WinDBG in a kernel debug session

  I'm a complete WinDbg newbie and I've been trying to debug a WindowsXP problem that a customer has sent me where our software and some third party software prevent windows from logging off. I've reproduced the problem and have verified that only when our software and the customers software are both installed (although not necessarily running at logoff) does the log off problem occur. I've observed that WM_ENDSESSION messages are not reaching the running windows when the user tries to log off and I know that the third party software uses a kernel driver. • How do you make a static sprite be a child of another sprite in cocos2D while using SpaceManager

  I have two static (STATIC_MASS) SpaceManager sprites. One is a child of the other - by which I mean that one sort of builds up the other one, but although the child's images shows up in the right place, the child doesn't seem to exists in the chipmunk physics engine, like I would expect. In my case, I have a backboard (rectangular sprite) and a hoop (a circular sprite). Since I might want to move the backboard, I'd like to attach the hoop to backboard so that the hoop automatically moves right along with the backboard. Here, we see a rotating backboard with attached hoop. It looks OK on the screen, but other objects only bounce off the backboard but pass right through the hoop (in a bad sense of the term).   Is it possible to test for the existence of a script-scoped variable in PowerShell? I've been using the PowerShell Community Extensions (PSCX) but I've noticed that if you import the module while Set-PSDebug -Strict is set, an error is produced: The variable '$SCRIPT:helpCache' cannot be retrieved because it has not been set. At C:\Users\...\Modules\Pscx\Modules\GetHelp\Pscx.GetHelp.psm1:5 char:24 While investigating how I might fix this, I found this piece of code in Pscx.GetHelp.psm1: #requires -version 2.0 param([string[]]$PreCacheList) if ((!$SCRIPT:helpCache) -or $RefreshCache) { $SCRIPT:helpCache = @{} } This is pretty straight forward code; if the cache doesn't exist or needs to be refreshed, create a new, empty cache. The problem is that calling $SCRIPT:helpCache while Set-PSDebug -Strict is in force casues the error because the variable hasn't been defined yet. Ideally, we could use a Test-Variable cmdlet but such a thing doesn't exist! I thought about looking in the variable: provider but I don't know how to determine the scope of a variable. So my question is: how can I test for the existence of a variable while Set-PSDebug -Strict is in force, without causing an error?

I'd like validation of the txtSpecifyOccupation textbox to occur only on a Page submit or when the user has tabbed of the required txtSpecifyoccupation textbox. How can I achieve this?

  Hey all, i am trying my best to figure out how to go about doing this: I have 2 tabs. When the page loads tab1 is selected automatically. This shows the tab as 1.0 transparency while tab2 stays at 0.7. Once the user clicks on tab2, tab1 goes to 0.7 transparency and tab2 goes to 1.0. However, i can not seem to get it to do that! • Is it OK to use WPF assemblies in a web app?

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 2 app targeting .NET 4 that needs to be able to resize images on the fly and write them to the response. I have code that does this and it works. I am using System.Drawing.dll. However, I want to enhance my code so that not only am I resizing the image, but I am dropping it from 24bpp down to 4bit grayscale. I could not, for the life of me, find code on how to do this with System.Drawing.dll. But I did find a bunch of WPF stuff. If anyone knows how to drop the bit depth without all this WPF stuff (which I barely understand, BTW) I would be thrilled to see that too.

• problem loading texture with transparency with OpenGL ES and Android

  Im trying to load an image that has background transparency that will be layered over another texture. When i try and load it, all i get is a white screen. The texture is 512 by 512, and its saved in photoshop as a 24 bit PNG (standard PNG specs in the Photoshop Save for Web and Devices config window). Any idea why its not showing? The texture without transparency shows without a problem.
