• What is better, a STL list or a STL Map for 20 entries, considering order of insertion is as importa

  I have the following scenario.The implementation is required for a real time application. 1)I need to store at max 20 entries in a container(STL Map, STL List etc). 2)If a new entry comes and 20 entries are already present i have to overwrite the oldest entry with the new entry. Considering point 2, i feel if the container is full (Max 20 entries) 'list' is the best bet as i can always remove the first entry in the list and add the new one at last (push_back). However, search won't be as efficient. For only 20 entries, does it really make a big difference in terms of searching efficiency if i use a list in place of a map? Also considering the cost of insertion in map i feel i should go for a list? Could you please tell what is a better bet for me ?

I am looking for a convenient way to be able to automate build-deploy-lanuch process. The process is: Package application & sign it Load it on the device Start debugging session in Eclipse With the newest version of BlackBerry plugin for Eclipse, step 1. is almost painless, but I would like to get rid of dialogs that I am missing some debug files. Step 2. and step 3. must be performed manually. Ideally I would like to turn it all into one script, Eclipse macro, whatever.... Has anyone tried something like this with any success?

  I am using the API to understand the performance of Adwords ad campaigns. I need to know how to attribute metrics back to the date dimension. For instance, for a given date, if I have 20 clicks, 18 visits, and 3 goal completions, does it mean that: 1) All of these actions happened on the day in question and are otherwise independent (meaning that the 3 goals could have been for people that clicked any time in the past 30 days, not who clicked on that day) 2) The on-site actions are a subset of the click activity on that day (i.e. on that day, 20 people clicked, 18 registered a real visit, and 3 completed a goal) If it is scenario 2, does that mean there is a need to refresh old rows every day? The issue: I'd like to release some dll's that will add extra functionality to applications, but i thats all i want them to be used for. adding functionality to applications. • Exclude a URL from rewrite in .htaccess with "last" flag

  WordPress has been installed as a blog into osCommerce. I'm trying to get the WordPress RSS feed to work. All WP core files exist, but I get all kinds of errors accessing the feed at mydomain.com/wordpress/feed/, like 404s, "the feed can't be updated because the source file is no longer available," or even raw php code in the browser from the osCommerce feed file. I think the problem is the rewrite rules for osCommerce, and I'm thinking if I can exclude the WP feed URL from rewrite, it will fix the feed or help find the real issue. Looking around SO, I found a solution to use the "last" flag on a URL to prevent it from being rewritten. Problem is, the existing .htaccess already has a rule with a "last" flag on it: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ http://www.mydomain.com/index.php?cPath=$1 [L] Is there a way to not rewrite the WP feed URL? Can another "last" rule be added? I'd like to have some definite things to try before messing with .htaccess to avoid disrupting the site.

However, when I try to resolve ISpecification<ZImplementation> Windsor throws an exception: "No component for supporting the service ISpecification'1[ZImplementation, AssemblyInfo...] was found" Does Windsor support resolving generic implementations down to base classes if no more specific implementation is registered?

  I don't like real-time debugging much, but if it's necessary I'll do it. Is there any way to figure out what line of code a StackTrace in Objective-C refers to? What about the variable it refers to?   Hello, I am trying to pass a variable to an ajax request via jquery. I have a triggered event that defines the variable. I want to do this so that I can have one ajax request handle multiple urls. I have alerted the url and it come back fine, but when I plug it into the URL slot of a $.ajax request my targeted content does not load. • Is it possible for competing file access to cause deadlock in Java?

  I'm chasing a production bug that's intermittent enough to be a real bastich to diagnose properly but frequent enough to be a legitimate nuisance for our customers. While I'm waiting for it to happen again on a machine set to spam the logfile with trace output, I'm trying to come up with a theory on what it could be. Is there any way for competing file read/writes to create what amounts to a deadlock condition? For instance, let's say I have Thread A that occasionally writes to config.xml, and Thread B that occasionally reads from it. Is there a set of circumstances that would cause Thread B to prevent Thread A from proceeding? My thanks in advance to anybody who helps with this theoretical fishing expedition. Edit: To answer Pyrolistical's questions: the code isn't using Filelock, and is running on a WinXP machine.

  This may be a terribly uninformed question, brace yourself. A company I'm working with has given an 'API' that I can use to access orders, however, there are only two real commands, getorders and getorderdetails. These commands are put in the format of http://www.server.com/path/to/the/orderapi/getorders/UniqueKey/ If I go to that web address, I'm prompted for a username and password, and once authenticating, get presented with a page of JSON formatted order details, contained in the body of the html page. I would like a service to check this information and create orders in our crm based on it, is there an obvious way to access it without the browser/client interaction?

• Android Release Version and "Waiting for Debugger"

  I know this has been asked before but I still don't have a solution. My first app: developed and debugged on my moto droid and then followed all the release steps, (exported from Eclipse, using my key to sign) including removing the debug in the manifest xml. I copied the resulting apk to the droid, disconnected the usb and installed it by double clicking on the file using Astro. I get the "Waiting for Debugger" message like when I am debugging but it never goes away. Doing something real stupid I know but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

• Virtual network interface in Mac OS X

  I know that you can make a virtual network interface in Windows (see here), and in Linux it is also pretty easy with ip-aliases, but does something similar exist for Mac OS X? I've been looking for loopback adapters, virtual interfaces and couldn't find a good solution. You can create a new interface in the networking panel, based on an existing interface, but it will not act as a real fully functional interface (if the original interface is inactive, then the derived one is also inactive). This scenario is needed when working in a completely disconnected situation. Even then, it makes sense to have networking capabilities when running servers in a VMWare installation. Those virtual machines can be reached by their IP address, but not by their DNS name, even if I run a DNS server in one of those virtual machines. By configuring an interface to use the virtual DNS server, I thought I could test some DNS scenario's. Unfortunately, no interface is resolving DNS names if none of them are inactive...

  Hi all, I have a question about the usage of TCPListener in .NET... I am thinking about a client/server application and being new to this kind of application I have search a bit around the web and the solution which come the more often is to create a new thread for each new client connection. This solution seem fine but I was wondering if it was still usable with a application where you can have thousands of client at the same time ? Of course if there is thousands of client the application will not be hosted on a small desktop but on a real server, but is it the way to design an application for a large number of client ?   After reading the responses to Is a College/University Degree Still Relevant?, I'd then ask, once you complete a university technology degree, would pursuing a masters in the field be worth it? Or is the experience you would gain working for those two years be more valuable? Or is a masters degree something that is more valuable after one has a few years of real-world experience after their undergrad? And what career doors would a masters open, and which would they possibly close? Keeping in mind this discussion on higher pay for advanced degrees, I'd rate whether a masters is worthwhile by both the pay one would get, but also more importantly, how enjoyable the job would be, and the types available (research only? development? management?).

• can I override/redefine "global" Javascript functions, like confirm() and alert()?

  I want to do some browser automation, and those pesky confirm/alert boxes are a real pain. Disabling javascript completely in this case is not an option, unfortunately. Well, so I was wondering, can I just change the definition of those methods as seen by my browser's javascript interpreter to basically do nothing and return true? Note that I do know about redefining them in the Javascript code directly, e.g. putting in function alert(message) { return true; } but AFAIK this is not a viable approach for this situation because when doing browser automation I have to work with other people's Javascript. Moreover, my program actually begins manipulating these websites already after the page has fully loaded into the browser, so I cannot just first automatically rewrite the javascript and then load the page. Well, so I was wondering if I could instead just "permanently" modify the way alert/confirm are implemented and executed in my browser. Sort of like the equivalent of dll injection and so forth in the realm of windows apps.

  Hello, I need to write Hebrew text in Latex. I am currently working on Windows with TeXnicCenter. I was pretty happy with this tool, up until the time when I needed to write Hebrew text. My regular alt-shift just won't change the language (I even downloaded the last alpha version, which was supposed to solve the problem, but it didn't). So I'm looking for another latex editor for windows that will let me write Hebrew. Please advice. Note: I know that it is possible with Lyx, but I prefer a real Latex editor.

• Filtering at server or at client?

  I am thinking about how to build advertise site which works like twitter. That means, most user don't not visit the site by browser, they should run a dedicated client application on their PC or smart phone. Then they set some filters about what kind of advertise they like. And when new post that fulfill their needs appear, the client will make a notification. To make that client as real time as possible, it has to poll the server within a short time interval. The problem is, should I do the filtering at the server side when client polls, or should I simply transfer all new posts to client and let client do the filtering? Making server side filtering might cause too much CPU cycles of server, but transferring every post blindly to client might waste a lot of bandwidth. Just a brain game. :)

  I know a bunch of people that are really enjoying the improvements that ASP.NET MVC 2 made over the first release. I have just started to migrate our MVC 1 project over and so far areas has totally cleaned up the subfolder mess we had in our large scale application. As I dive deeper into all the improvements and changes that were made I still keep thinking to myself man it would be nice if they had x in this release. For isntance, I would love it if they had some sort of dependency injection built in instead of having to use third party solutions. My real question is now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out in the wild, what features do want/wish the team had implemented and hope they will implement for ASP.NET MVC 3?

• Is there a Java equivalent to libevent?

  I've written a high-throughput server that handles each request in its own thread. For requests coming in it is occasionally necessary to do RPCs to one or more back-ends. These back-end RPCs are handled by a separate queue and thread-pool, which provides some bounding on the number of threads created and the maximum number of connections to the back-end (it does some caching to reuse clients and save the overhead of constantly creating connections). Having done all this, though, I'm beginning to think an event-based architecture would be more efficient. In searching around I haven't found any equivalents to libevent for Java, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place? Mina-statemachine from Apache was the closest thing I found, but it looks more verbose than I need and there's no real release available. Any suggestions?

Actually, I've already get the value from ExternalContext#getRequestParam but maybe there are some other solutions. More interesting question: why propertyActionListener didn't work here? What does it do actually? (again I have some thoughts about it but it would be nice to read more comprehensive explanations).

• Implementing ma? osx loop device driver.

  Hello, I am aware that there is a native implementation of loop device system on osx, the hdiutil/hdix driver. But due to a number of reasons i need to roll out my own custom loop driver. Since hdix is closed-source can anyone give some starting pointers, links, advises, etc. on the subject? I had expirience implementing loop drivers on linux and windows but i don't really have a clue where to start from on osx. The basic functionality i need to implement is the same: given any file on disk, simulate a virtual block device interface for it. I also would like my loop driver to use all the native partition filter stacking available for real and hdix virtual block devices on osx.
