  • Unusually high memory usage on a CentOS VPS with 512 guaranteed RAM

    - by Andrei Bârsan
    I'm working on a medium-sized web application written in PHP that's running on a VPS with 512mb ram. The webapp hasn't been officially launched yet, so there isn't too much traffic going on, just me and a few other people working on it. There is another slightly smaller webapp also hosted on this machine, among 4-5 other small static sites. We are running Centos 5 32-bit & cPanel/WHM. This is the result of running ps aux and, as you can see, it's not using 100% of the RAM. However, on the hypanel overview, it's always shown as using aroun 500MB ram, just for running apache, mysql, and the lowest-memory-footprint versions of the mail server, ftp server etc. -bash-3.2# ps aux USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 1 0.0 0.0 2156 664 ? • BIOS unable to boot CD or Hard Drive

    - by Gabriel
    Motherboard Intel DQ35MP. HDD Caviar Green 1TB. I'm having problems with my BIOS and/or hard drive/disc drive. Came back from a trip, booted my computer, and realized that the BIOS wasn't booting anymore, just a black screen with no beep sounds. Only fans and lights on. Then I thought it might be caused by the video card, I removed it, and still no BIOS screen. Then I removed the hard drive and voila BIOS screen is back again. If the hard drive is defective then I can check that with a Rescue Disk. I inserted the CD on the Disc Tray but the computer did not respond to it, the screen freezes in black with an "E7" string at the bottom right corner just after the BIOS screen, this happens with or without discs. BIOS settings are set to default, and CD reading is on top of the boot device list. EDIT I removed the BIOS battery, rebooted the CPU, the BIOS screen showed up, and then it freezed in E7. Placed the BIOS batttery, rebooted and same thing, we are stuck with the E7 string. I uploaded a video to illustrate the problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13jPdBcIrBU

  • Multiple Memcached server /etc/init.d startup script that works ?

    - by p4guru
    I install memcached server via source and can get standard start up script installed for 1 memcached server instance, but trying several scripts via google, can't find one that works to manager auto start up on boot for multiple memcached server instances. I've tried both these scripts and both don't work, service memcached start just returns to command prompt with no memcached server instances started lullabot.com/articles/installing-memcached-redhat-or-centos addmoremem.blogspot.com/2010/09/running-multiple-instances-of-memcached.html However this bash script works but doesn't start up memcached instances at start up though ? #!/bin/sh case "$1" in start) /usr/local/bin/memcached -d -m 16 -p 11211 -u nobody /usr/local/bin/memcached -d -m 16 -p 11212 -u nobody ;; stop) killall memcached ;; esac OS: Centos 5.5 64bit Memcached = v1.4.5 Memcache = v2.2.5 Anyone can point me to a working /etc/init.d/ startup script to manage multiple memcached servers ? Thanks

  • RTorrent stops my torrents, crashes, and I have to manually re-add torrents and start them. How can I stop this cycle of doom?

    - by meder
    I cannot use transmission which is the best torrent client because it's banned from one of the trackers I use, so I am forced to use rtorrent. Normally I am all for command-line programs, however rtorrent ( 0.8.6/0.12.6 ) is simply frustrating. It is not intuitive, imo. I have 400 MB left on the HD and that's more than enough to dl this 200 MB avi. Rtorrent stops the download, though. It says [CLOSED] near the torrent. I do ctrl-r and that invokes the local hash check, and after that's done rtorrent simply dies ( wtf? ). Afterwards, it gives me rtorrent: TrackerManager::send_later() m_control->set() == DownloadInfo::STOPPED. So that leads me to open rtorrent again, then hit ENTER and /home/meder/file.avi.torrent, down arrow, and ctrl-S. I am looking for multiple things... How can I tell rtorrent to not worry about disk space? Again, it stops the torrent if my HD only has 400 mb when the torrent I'm dling is 200 mb ( there are no other torrents ). Why does ctrl-R fail hard? Why does it cause rtorrent to crash? If #2 is not solvable, can someone provide an easy way to add a torrent and start it, a more efficient method than typing the torrent name, hitting the down arrow, and ctrl-S?

  • Prevent Windows from resizing all the apps on the desktop when switching monitors

    - by Greg Hewgill
    Short version: When moving my laptop and sleeping between using different monitors, all my open windows are crammed into the upper left corner as if they tried to fit on the laptop internal screen resolution. I plug in and switch to the external monitor before unlocking my session. Is there a way to prevent this automatic resizing? Longer version: I have a laptop that I move between two locations. I have one docking station, and the same kind of monitor configured for 1600x1200, in both locations. The internal laptop screen is awful so I don't use it. Location A: Docking station, monitor connected via DVI. Location B: No docking station, external monitor connected via VGA cable. In this location I have the laptop lid open for keyboard access but I don't use the laptop screen. When moving from Location A to Location B, the laptop wakes up from sleep, displaying the screen on the internal monitor. I switch to the external monitor display (using Fn+F8 on this laptop), and only after that do I unlock my session with my password. However, Windows has crammed all my nicely arranged windows into the upper left corner as if it were trying to fit them all on the laptop internal screen resolution. When moving from Location B to Location A, I have the laptop lid closed when using the docking station so Windows apparently concludes the screen resolution is 1600x1200 and doesn't resize any windows. The laptop is a Dell Latitude running Windows 7 Professional.

  • Windows Azure openSUSE: rcnetwork not starting

    - by djechelon
    I have a Linux VM in Azure, created from their default image. My problem is simply that the init script network doesn't look like to start, so dependent services (apache, postfix...) won't start. If I run yast runlevel and try to start postfix it asks me to start network first: if I accept, network is started without errors and then postfix is started. While network is configured to start on boot, it just doesn't appear to have started. Anyway, SSH connections work fine. Currently, I had to edit my init scripts and remove network from the Required-Start list, but that didn't work for posftix (even after running systemctl --system daemon-reload). How can I fix all this?

  • add script on boot linux machine

    - by user1546679
    I have one script to start a service on my ubuntu. I added it on boot machine using "# update-rc.d projeto defaults". But it still doesn't start with the boot machine. I think is because I am using other user to start the script "su - www-data -c ...". But I am not sure, because I run the update-rc.d command as root. When I execute the script from a terminal, it asks the password of the user www-data. Does anyone know what is happening? Thanks a lot! Felipe #!/bin/bash # /var/www/boinc/projeto/bin/start function action { su - www-data -c "/var/www/boinc/projeto/bin/$1" } case $1 in start|stop|status) action $1 ;; *) echo "ERRO: usar $0 (start|stop|status)" exit 1 ;; esac

  • Making a shortcut for the Skype Metro application

    - by Phazyck
    In the accepted answer to this question, it is described how to make a shortcut for any Metro app, which you can then place in the startup folder. Example: By making a shortcut, People.url, which points to "wlpeople:", and placing it under the path, "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup", one can make the People app start up along with Windows. I'm close to doing the same, but with the Skype app: My attempt at making the Skype Metro app start up with windows: By making a shortcut, Skype.url, which points to "skype:", and placing it under the path, "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup", one can make the Skype app start up along with Windows. This shortcut will start up the Skype app, however, if the app is not already running, the app will hang when starting up. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Am I using the wrong shortcut, or do I perhaps need to supply it with some arguments?

  • init.d service died

    - by jerluc
    Adapting some code from a linux forum, I've added a service script to /etc/init.d on my ubuntu natty server to start/stop/restart node.js It literally was working the first day I made it, but then today, after viewing my website this morning, the server threw a 404, and upon further inspection, the node.js process was gone. So I went to start the service again, only this time, node.js didn't start at all, and ever since I haven't been able to get my service script working. Below is the entire script: #!/bin/sh # # Node Server Startup # case "$1" in start) echo -n "Starting node: " daemon node /usr/local/www/server.js echo touch /var/lock/subsys/node ;; stop) echo -n "Shutting down node: " killall node echo rm -f /var/lock/subsys/node rm -f /var/run/node.pid ;; status) status node ;; restart) $0 stop $0 start ;; reload) echo -n "Reloading node: " killall node -HUP echo ;; *) echo "Usage: $0 {start|stop|restart|reload|status}" exit 1 esac exit 0 Thanks for any help!

  • One letter game problem?

    - by Alex K
    Recently at a job interview I was given the following problem: Write a script capable of running on the command line as python It should take in two words on the command line (or optionally if you'd prefer it can query the user to supply the two words via the console). Given those two words: a. Ensure they are of equal length b. Ensure they are both words present in the dictionary of valid words in the English language that you downloaded. If so compute whether you can reach the second word from the first by a series of steps as follows a. You can change one letter at a time b. Each time you change a letter the resulting word must also exist in the dictionary c. You cannot add or remove letters If the two words are reachable, the script should print out the path which leads as a single, shortest path from one word to the other. You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words. But apparently that wasn't good enough to get the job :( Would you guys know what I could have done wrong? Thank you so much. import collections import functools import re def time_func(func): import time def wrapper(*args, **kwargs): start = time.time() res = func(*args, **kwargs) timed = time.time() - start setattr(wrapper, 'time_taken', timed) return res functools.update_wrapper(wrapper, func) return wrapper class OneLetterGame: def __init__(self, dict_path): self.dict_path = dict_path self.words = set() def run(self, start_word, end_word): '''Runs the one letter game with the given start and end words. • Azure Grid Computing - Worker Roles as HPC Compute Nodes

    - by JoshReuben
    Overview ·        With HPC 2008 R2 SP1 You can add Azure worker roles as compute nodes in a local Windows HPC Server cluster. ·        The subscription for Windows Azure like any other Azure Service - charged for the time that the role instances are available, as well as for the compute and storage services that are used on the nodes. ·        Win-Win ? - Azure charges the computer hour cost (according to vm size) amortized over a month – so you save on purchasing compute node hardware. Microsoft wins because you need to purchase HPC to have a local head node for managing this compute cluster grid distributed in the cloud. ·        Blob storage is used to hold input & output files of each job. I can see how Parametric Sweep HPC jobs can be supported (where the same job is run multiple times on each node against different input units), but not MPI.NET (where different HPC Job instances function as coordinated agents and conduct master-slave inter-process communication), unless Azure is somehow tunneling MPI communication through inter-WorkerRole Azure Queues. ·        this is not the end of the story for Azure Grid Computing. If MS requires you to purchase a local HPC license (and administrate it), what's to stop a 3rd party from doing this and encapsulating exposing HPC WCF Broker Service to you for managing compute nodes? If MS doesn’t  provide head node as a service, someone else will! Process ·        requires creation of a worker node template that specifies a connection to an existing subscription for Windows Azure + an availability policy for the worker nodes. ·        After worker nodes are added to the cluster, you can start them, which provisions the Windows Azure role instances, and then bring them online to run HPC cluster jobs. ·        A Windows Azure worker role instance runs a HPC compatible Azure guest operating system which runs on the VMs that host your service. The guest operating system is updated monthly. You can choose to upgrade the guest OS for your service automatically each time an update is released - All role instances defined by your service will run on the guest operating system version that you specify. see Windows Azure Guest OS Releases and SDK Compatibility Matrix (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=190549). ·        use the hpcpack command to upload file packages and install files to run on the worker nodes. see hpcpack (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=205514). Requirements ·        assuming you have an azure subscription account and the HPC head node installed and configured. ·        Install HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP 1 -  see Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Release Notes (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=202812). ·        Configure the head node to connect to the Internet - connectivity is provided by the connection of the head node to the enterprise network. You may need to configure a proxy client on the head node. Any cluster network topology (1-5) is supported). ·        Configure the firewall - allow outbound TCP traffic on the following ports: 80,       443, 5901, 5902, 7998, 7999 ·        Note: HPC Server  uses Admin Mode (Elevated Privileges) in Windows Azure to give the service administrator of the subscription the necessary privileges to initialize HPC cluster services on the worker nodes. ·        Obtain a Windows Azure subscription certificate - the Windows Azure subscription must be configured with a public subscription (API) certificate -a valid X.509 certificate with a key size of at least 2048 bits. Generate a self-sign certificate & upload a .cer file to the Windows Azure Portal Account page > Manage my API Certificates link. see Using the Windows Azure Service Management API (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=205526). ·        import the certificate with an associated private key on the HPC cluster head node - into the trusted root store of the local computer account. Obtain Windows Azure Connection Information for HPC Server ·        required for each worker node template ·        copy from azure portal - Get from: navigation pane > Hosted Services > Storage Accounts & CDN ·        Subscription ID - a 32-char hex string in the form xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx. In Properties pane. ·        Subscription certificate thumbprint - a 40-char hex string (you need to remove spaces). In Management Certificates > Properties pane. ·        Service name - the value of <ServiceName> configured in the public URL of the service (http://<ServiceName>.cloudapp.net). In Hosted Services > Properties pane. ·        Blob Storage account name - the value of <StorageAccountName> configured in the public URL of the account (http://<StorageAccountName>.blob.core.windows.net). In Storage Accounts > Properties pane. Import the Azure Subscription Certificate on the HPC Head Node ·        enable the services for Windows HPC Server  to authenticate properly with the Windows Azure subscription. ·        use the Certificates MMC snap-in to import the certificate to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store of the local computer account. The certificate must be in PFX format (.pfx or .p12 file) with a private key that is protected by a password. ·        see Certificates (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=163918). ·        To open the certificates snapin: Run > mmc. File > Add/Remove Snap-in > certificates > Computer account > Local Computer ·        To import the certificate via wizard - Certificates > Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates > All Tasks > Import ·        After the certificate is imported, it appears in the details pane in the Certificates snap-in. You can open the certificate to check its status. Configure a Proxy Client on the HPC Head Node ·        the following Windows HPC Server services must be able to communicate over the Internet (through the firewall) with the services for Windows Azure: HPCManagement, HPCScheduler, HPCBrokerWorker. ·        Create a Windows Azure Worker Node Template ·        Edit HPC node templates in HPC Node Template Editor. ·        Specify: 1) Windows Azure subscription connection info (unique service name) for adding a set of worker nodes to the cluster + 2)worker node availability policy – rules for deploying / removing worker role instances in Windows Azure o   HPC Cluster Manager > Configuration > Navigation Pane > Node Templates > Actions pane > New à Create Node Template Wizard or Edit à Node Template Editor o   Choose Node Template Type page - Windows Azure worker node template o   Specify Template Name page – template name & description o   Provide Connection Information page – Azure Subscription ID (text) & Subscription certificate (browse) o   Provide Service Information page - Azure service name + blob storage account name (optionally click Retrieve Connection Information to get list of available from azure – possible LRT). o   Configure Azure Availability Policy page - how Windows Azure worker nodes start / stop (online / offline the worker role instance -  add / remove) – manual / automatic o   for automatic - In the Configure Windows Azure Worker Availability Policy dialog -select days and hours for worker nodes to start / stop. ·        To validate the Windows Azure connection information, on the template's Connection Information tab > Validate connection information. ·        You can upload a file package to the storage account that is specified in the template - eg upload application or service files that will run on the worker nodes. see hpcpack (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=205514). Add Azure Worker Nodes to the HPC Cluster ·        Use the Add Node Wizard – specify: 1) the worker node template, 2) The number of worker nodes   (within the quota of role instances in the azure subscription), and 3)           The VM size of the worker nodes : ExtraSmall, Small, Medium, Large, or ExtraLarge.  ·        to add worker nodes of different sizes, must run the Add Node Wizard separately for each size. ·        All worker nodes that are added to the cluster by using a specific worker node template define a set of worker nodes that will be deployed and managed together in Windows Azure when you start the nodes. This includes worker nodes that you add later by using the worker node template and, if you choose, worker nodes of different sizes. You cannot start, stop, or delete individual worker nodes. ·        To add Windows Azure worker nodes o   In HPC Cluster Manager: Node Management > Actions pane > Add Node à Add Node Wizard o   Select Deployment Method page - Add Azure Worker nodes o   Specify New Nodes page - select a worker node template, specify the number and size of the worker nodes ·        After you add worker nodes to the cluster, they are in the Not-Deployed state, and they have a health state of Unapproved. Before you can use the worker nodes to run jobs, you must start them and then bring them online. ·        Worker nodes are numbered consecutively in a naming series that begins with the root name AzureCN – this is non-configurable. Deploying Windows Azure Worker Nodes ·        To deploy the role instances in Windows Azure - start the worker nodes added to the HPC cluster and bring the nodes online so that they are available to run cluster jobs. This can be configured in the HPC Azure Worker Node Template – Azure Availability Policy -  to be automatic or manual. ·        The Start, Stop, and Delete actions take place on the set of worker nodes that are configured by a specific worker node template. You cannot perform one of these actions on a single worker node in a set. You also cannot perform a single action on two sets of worker nodes (specified by two different worker node templates). ·        ·          Starting a set of worker nodes deploys a set of worker role instances in Windows Azure, which can take some time to complete, depending on the number of worker nodes and the performance of Windows Azure. ·        To start worker nodes manually and bring them online o   In HPC Node Management > Navigation Pane > Nodes > List / Heat Map view - select one or more worker nodes. o   Actions pane > Start – in the Start Azure Worker Nodes dialog, select a node template. o   the state of the worker nodes changes from Not Deployed to track the provisioning progress – worker node Details Pane > Provisioning Log tab. o   If there were errors during the provisioning of one or more worker nodes, the state of those nodes is set to Unknown and the node health is set to Unapproved. To determine the reason for the failure, review the provisioning logs for the nodes. o   After a worker node starts successfully, the node state changes to Offline. To bring the nodes online, select the nodes that are in the Offline state > Bring Online. ·        Troubleshooting o   check node template. o   use telnet to test connectivity: telnet <ServiceName>.cloudapp.net 7999 o   check node status - Deployment status information appears in the service account information in the Windows Azure Portal - HPC queries this -  see  node status information for any failed nodes in HPC Node Management. ·        When role instances are deployed, file packages that were previously uploaded to the storage account using the hpcpack command are automatically installed. You can also upload file packages to storage after the worker nodes are started, and then manually install them on the worker nodes. see hpcpack (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=205514). ·        to remove a set of role instances in Windows Azure - stop the nodes by using HPC Cluster Manager (apply the Stop action). This deletes the role instances from the service and changes the state of the worker nodes in the HPC cluster to Not Deployed. ·        Each time that you start a set of worker nodes, two proxy role instances (size Small) are configured in Windows Azure to facilitate communication between HPC Cluster Manager and the worker nodes. The proxy role instances are not listed in HPC Cluster Manager after the worker nodes are added. However, the instances appear in the Windows Azure Portal. The proxy role instances incur charges in Windows Azure along with the worker node instances, and they count toward the quota of role instances in the subscription.

  • What do you think of this generator syntax?

    - by ChaosPandion
    I've been working on an ECMAScript dialect for quite some time now and have reached a point where I am comfortable adding new language features. I would love to hear some thoughts and suggestions on the syntax. Example generator { yield 1; yield 2; yield 3; if (true) { yield break; } yield continue generator { yield 4; yield 5; yield 6; }; } Syntax GeneratorExpression:     generator  {  GeneratorBody  } GeneratorBody:     GeneratorStatementsopt GeneratorStatements:     StatementListopt GeneratorStatement GeneratorStatementsopt GeneratorStatement:     YieldStatement     YieldBreakStatement     YieldContinueStatement YieldStatement:     yield  Expression  ; YieldBreakStatement:     yield  break  ; YieldContinueStatement:     yield  continue  Expression  ; Semantics The YieldBreakStatement allows you to end iteration early. This helps avoid deeply indented code. You'll be able to write something like this: generator { yield something1(); if (condition1 && condition2) yield break; yield something2(); if (condition3 && condition4) yield break; yield something3(); } instead of: generator { yield something1(); if (!condition1 && !condition2) { yield something2(); if (!condition3 && !condition4) { yield something3(); } } } The YieldContinueStatement allows you to combine generators: function generateNumbers(start) { return generator { yield 1 + start; yield 2 + start; yield 3 + start; if (start < 100) { yield continue generateNumbers(start + 1); } }; }

  • OFM 11g: Implementing OAM SSO with Forms

    - by olaf.heimburger
    There is some confusion about the integration of OFM 11g Forms with Oracle Access Manager 11g (OAM). Some say this does not work, some say it works, but.... Actually, having implemented it many times I belong to the later group. Here is how. Caveat Before you start installing anything, take a step back and consider your current implementation and what you really need and want to achieve. The current integration of Forms 11g with OAM 11g does not support self-service account creation and password resets from the Forms application. If you really need this, you must use the existing Oracle AS 10.1.4.3 infrastructure. On the other hand, if your user population is pretty stable, you can enjoy the latest Forms 11g with OAM 11g. Assumptions The whole process should be done in one day. I assume that all domains and instances are started during setup, if you need to restart them on demand or purpose, be sure to have proper start/stop scripts, I don't mention them. Preparation It goes without saying, that you always should do a proper backup before you change anything on your production environment. With proper backup, I also mean a tested and verified restore process. If you dared to test it before, do it now. It pays off. Requirements For OAM 11g to work properly you need a LDAP repository. For the integration of Forms 11g you need an Oracle Internet Directory (OID) configured with the Oracle AS SSO LDAP extensions. For better support I usually give the latest version a try, in this case OID 11g is a good choice.During the Installation and Integration steps we use an upgrade wizard that needs the old OID configuration on the same host but in a different ORACLE_HOME. Installation vs Configuration With OFM 11g Oracle introduced a clear separation between Installation of the binaries (the software) and the Configuration of the instances (the runtime). This is really great as you can install all the software and create new instances when needed. In the following we adhere to this scheme and install the software first and then configure the instances later. Installation Steps The Oracle documentation contains all the necessary steps for the installation of all pieces of software. But some hints help to avoid traps and pitfalls. Step 1 The Database Start the installation with the database. It is quite obvious but we need an Oracle database for all the other steps. If you have one at hand, fine. If not, just install at least a Oracle 10.2.0.4 version. This database can be on a different host. Step 2 The Repository Creation Utility The next step should be to run the Repository Creation Utility (RCU). This is a client application that just needs to connect to your database. It can be run on any host that can reach the database and is a Windows or Linux 32-bit machine. When you run it, be sure to install the OID schema and the OAM schema. If you miss one of these, you can run the RCU again to install the missing schema. Step 3 The Foundation With OFM 11g Oracle started to use WebLogic Server 11g (WLS) as its foundation for all OFM 11g installation. We therefore install it first. Depending on your operating system, it might be possible, that no native installer is available. My approach to this dilemma is to use the WLS Generic Installer for all my installations. It does not include a JDK either but if you have both for your platform you are ready to go. Step 3a The JDK To make things interesting, Oracle currently has two JDKs in its portfolio. The Sun JDK and the JRockit JDK. Both are available for a number of platforms. If you are lucky and both are available for your platform, install both in a separate directory (and not one of your ORACLE_HOMEs) each, You can use the later as you like. Step 3b Install WLS for OID and OAM With the JDK installed, we start the generic installer with java -jar wls_generic.jar.STOP! Before you do this, check the version first. It should be 1.6.0_18 or later and not the GCC one (Some Linux distros have it installed by default). To verify the version, issue a java -version command and make sure that the output does not contain the text gcj and the version matches. If this does not work, use an absolute path like /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_23/bin/java to start the installer. The installer allows you to specify a path to install the software into, say /opt/oracle/iam/11.1.1.3 for the OID and OAM installation. We will call this IAM_HOME. Step 4 Install OID Now we are ready to install OID. Start the OID installer (in the Disk1 directory) and just select the installation only step. This will install the software only and does not configure the instance. Use the IAM_HOME as the target directory. Step 5 Install SOA Suite The IAM 11g Suite uses the BPEL component of the SOA Suite 11g for its workflows. This is a pretty closed environment and not to be used for SCA Composites. We install the SOA Suite in $IAM_HOME/soa. The installer only installs the binaries. Configuration will be done later. Step 6 Install OAM Once the installation of OID and SOA is done, we are ready to install the OAM software in the same IAM_HOME. Make sure to install the OAM binaries in a directory different from the one you used during the OID and SOA installation. As before, we only install the software, the instance will be created later. Step 7 Backup the Installation At this point, I normally do a backup (or snapshot in a virtual image) of the installation. Good when you need to go back to this point. Step 8 Configure OID The software is installed and now we need instances to run it. This process is called configuration. For OID use the config.sh found in $IAM_HOME/oid/bin to start the configuration wizard. Normally this runs smoothly. If you encounter some issues check the Oracle Support site for help. This configuration will also start the OID instance. Step 9 Install the Oracle AS SSO Schema Before we install the Forms software we need to install the Oracle AS SSO Schema into the database and OID. This is a rather dangerous procedure, but fully documented in the IAM Installation Guide, Chapter 10. You should finish this in one go, do not reboot your host during the whole procedure. As a precaution, you should make a backup of the OID instance before you start the procedure. Once the backup is ready, read the chapter, including every note, carefully. You can avoid a number of issues by following all the steps and will succeed with a working solution. Step 10 Configure OAM Reached this step? Great. You are ready to create an OAM instance. Use the $IAM_HOME/iam/common/binconfig.sh for this. This will open the WLS Domain Creation Wizard and asks for the libraries to be installed. You should at least select the OAM with Database repository item. The configuration will also start the OAM instance. Step 11 Install WLS for Forms 11g It is quite tempting to install everything in one ORACLE_HOME. Unfortunately this does not work for all OFM packages. Therefore we do another WLS installation in another ORACLE_HOME. The same considerations as in step 3b apply. We call this one FORMS_HOME. Step 12 Install Forms In the FORMS_HOME we now install the binaries for the Forms 11g software. Again, this is a install only step. Configuration starts with the next step. Step 13 Configure Forms To configure Forms 11g we start the Configuration Wizard (config.sh) in FORMS_HOME/bin. This wizard should create a new WebLogic Domain and an OHS instance! Do not extend existing domains or instances! Forms should run in its own instances! When all information is supplied, the wizard will create the domain and instance and starts them automatically.Step 14 Setup your Forms SSO EnvironmentOnce you have implemented and tested your Forms 11g instance, you can configured it for SSO. Yes, this requires the old Oracle AS SSO solution, OIDDAS for creating and assigning users and SSO to setup your partner applications. In this step you should consider to create every user necessary for use within the environment. When done, do not forget to test it. Step 15 Migrate the SSO Repository Since the final goal is to get rid of the old SSO implementation we need to migrate the old SSO repository into the new OID structure. Additionally, this step will also migrate all partner application configurations into OAM 11g. Quite convenient. To do this step, you have to start the upgrade agent (ua or ua.bat or ua.cmd) on the operating system level in $IAM_HOME/bin. Once finished, this wizard will create new osso.conf files for each partner application in $IAM_HOME/upgrade/temp/oam/.Note: At the time of this writing, this step only works if everything is on the same host (ie. OID, OAM, etc.). This restriction might be lifted in later releases. Step 16 Change your OHS sso.conf and shut down OC4J_SECURITY In Step 14 we verified that SSO for our Forms environment works fine. Now, we are shutting the old system done and reconfigure the OHS that acts as the Forms entry point. First we go to the OHS configuration directory and rename the old osso.conf  to osso.conf.10g. Now we change the moduleconf/mod_osso.conf  to point to the new osso.conf file. Copy the new osso.conf  file from $IAM_HOME/upgrade/temp/oam/ to the OHS configuration directory. Restart OHS, test forms by using the same forms links. OAM should now kick in and show the login dialog to ask for your user credentials.Done. Now your Forms environment is successfully integrated with OAM 11g.Enjoy. What's Next? This rather lengthy setup is just the foundation for your growing environment of OAM 11g protections. In the next entry we will show that Forms 11g and ADF Faces 11g can use the same OAM installation and provide real single sign-on. References Nearly everything is documented. Use the documentation! • Upstart: best way for shutdown hook?

    - by Binarus
    Hi, since Ubuntu relies on upstart for some time now, I would like to use an upstart job to gracefully shutdown certain applications on system shutdown or reboot. It is essential that the system's shutdown or reboot is stalled until these applications are shut down. The applications will be started manually on occasion, and on system shutdown should automatically be ended by a script (which I already have). Since the applications can't be ended reliably without (nearly all) other services running, ending the applications has to be done before the rest of the shutdown begins. I think I can solve this by an upstart job which will be triggered on shutdown, but I am unsure which events I should use in which manner. So far, I have read the following (partly contradicting) statements: There is no general shutdown event in upstart Use a stanza like "start on starting shutdown" in the job definition Use a stanza like "start on runlevel [06S]" in the job definition Use a stanza like "start on starting runlevel [06S]" in the job definition Use a stanza like "start on stopping runlevel [!06S]" in the job definition From these recommendations, the following questions arise: Is there or is there not a general shutdown event in Ubuntu's upstart? What is the recommended way to implement a "shutdown hook"? When are the events runlevel [x] triggered; is this when having entered the runlevel or when entering the runlevel? Can we use something like "start on starting runlevel [x]" or "start on stopping runlevel [x]"? What would be the best solution for my problem? Thank you very much, Binarus

  • Is my JS/Jquery methodology good?

    - by absentx
    I always struggle with which of the stack sites is best to post "questions of theory" like this, but I think programmers is the best, if not, as usual a mod will move it etc... I am seeking critique on what has become my normal methodology of writing javascript. I have become heavily reliant on the Jquery library, but I think this has helped me learn the native language better also. Anyways, please critique the following style of JS coding...buried are a lot of questions of scope, if you could point out the strengths and weaknesses of this style I would appreciate it. var critique ={ start: function(){ globalness = 'GLOBAL-GLOBAL'; //available to all critique's methods var notglobalness = 'LOCAL-LOCAL';// only available to critiques start method //am I using the "method" teminology properly here?? $('#stuff').on('click','a.closer-target',function(){ $target = $(this); if($target.hasClass('active')){ $target.removeClass('active'); } else{ $target.addClass('active'); critique.madness($target); } }) console.log(notglobalness+': at least I am useful at home'); console.log('note here that: '+notglobalness+' is no longer available after this point, lets continue on:'); critique.madness(notglobalness); }, madness: function($e){ // do a bunch of awesomeness with $e //but continue to keep it seperate because you think its best to keep things isolated. //send to the next function when complete here console.log('here is globalness, which is still available from the start method of critique!! ' + globalness); console.log('lets see if the globalness carries on to a new var object!!'); console.log('the locally isolated variable of NOTGLOBALNESS is available here because it was passed to this method, lets show it:'+$e); carryOn.start(); } } //end critique var carryOn={ start: function(){ console.log('any chance critique.globalness will work here??? lets see: ' +globalness); console.log('it absolutely does'); } } $(document).ready(critique.start);

  • Allow non-sudo group to control Upstart job

    - by Angle O'Saxon
    I'm trying to set up an Upstart job to run on system startup, and that can also be started/stopped by members of a group other than sudo. With a previous version, I usedupdate-rc.d and scripts stored in /etc/init.d/ to get this working by adding %Group ALL = NOPASSWD: /etc/init.d/scriptname to my sudoers file, but I can't seem to get an equivalent working for Upstart. I tried adding %Group ALL = NOPASSWD: /sbin/initctl start jobname to the sudoers file, but trying to run the command start jobname produces this error: start: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.21" (uid=1000 pid=5148 comm="start jobname " interface="com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job" member="Start" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="com.ubuntu.Upstart" (uid=0 pid=1 comm="/sbin/init") As near as I can tell, that's a complaint about how my user account isn't given the power to send 'Start' messages in the D-Bus config file for Upstart. I haven't been able to actually find any information on how to edit that file to give a group permission to access a specific service--does such an option exist? Is there a way to edit the Sudoers file so I can run the job without editing the config file? Am I better off just sticking with the previous version?

  • How to quickly open an application for the 2nd time via Dash?

    - by Andre
    When I want to open an application via Dash, I just hit Super, type the first letters, and hit Enter. For instance: Super, "drop", Enter to start Dropbox. However, if I want to start an application again, Dash remembers it, but I cannot start it by hitting ENTER although "drop" is still in there, and Dropbox is in the first position. Why? How can I (without using the mouse) start an application again? UPDATE: better example (hopefully): Super ... type "ged" ... Enter to start Gedit close Gedit Super ... and now? "ged" is remembered, Gedit is still in pole position ready to be started. However, hitting Enter does not work. How can I start an application again? - Without using the mouse or retyping? If I have to retype, it makes no sense that Dash remembers the application and my typed letters. I assume there is a way to open the application again by just: Super + Enter (or something similar). Thanks!

  • CentOS 5.7 keeps rebooting after fresh installation

    - by Wagner Maestrelli
    I have just installed CentOS 5.7 x86_64 on a new computer. The installation went on without any issues. But, after it finnished, the machine started to show an awkward behaviour: it restarts every time it tries to boot. It happens after all the services have been started. The screen just goes black and it shows an error message from the monitor: Input not supported. And then it reboots. I took a look at the logs, but I couldn't manage to find anything. Any help? Update Before doing the hardware diagnosis, as pointed out, I decided to make some tests. First, I changed the runlevel to 3, adding the 3 parameter at the end of the kernel command. Then, after logging in in text mode, I checked the xorg.conf file out for some problems regarding the screen resolution. There was nothing unexpected set. Well, if there had to be a problem with it, I couldn't start the X server at the command line, right? So, I typed startx and Gnome started! So, probably, it's not an issue with the screen resolution, I suppose. Then I selected the Log Out root... Gnome menu option and something odd happened: the screen went black, the Input not supported monitor error message was displayed and the system rebooted. Yes, the same problem I was having while trying to boot! After that, I decided to try yet another test: I removed the rhgb quiet parameters from the kernel command to see if some error would show up. Well, to my surprise, the boot went on without problems! The Gnome login screen showed up, I logged in and the session started. But then I selected the Shut Down... menu option and guess what? Same problem: black screen, same monitor error and the system rebooted. Yes, it rebooted, it did not shut down. I repeated both of the tests and the behaviours were the same. I really don't know what's going on. It seems to be an issue regarding the changing of the screen mode or something like that. Any ideas? Could this be a hardware problem? Or does it seem to be something regarding the system configuration?

  • How to Resolve Jason issue

    I am working in a web scheduling application which uses DayPilot component I started by reading the documentation and use the calendar control. but whenever I do some thing which (fires an event on the Daypilot control) I face with following error An exception was thrown in the server-side event handler: System.InvalidCastException: Instance Of JasonData doesn't hold a double at DayPilot.Jason.JasonData.op_Explicit(JasonData data) at DayPilot.Web.Ui.Events.EventMoveEventArgs..ctor(JasonData parameters, string[] fields, JasonData data) at DayPilot.Web.Ui.DayPilotCalendar.ExecuteEventJASON(String ea) at DayPilot.Web.Ui.DayPilotCalendar.System.Web.UI.ICallbackEventHandler.RaiseCallbackEvent(string ea) at System.Web.UI.Page.PrepareCallback(String callbackControlID) here is the completed code in the ASPX page <DayPilot:DayPilotCalendar ID="DayPilotCalendar1" runat="server" Direction="RTL" Days="7" DataStartField="eventstart" DataEndField="eventend" DataTextField="name" DataValueField="id" DataTagFields="State" EventMoveHandling="CallBack" OnEventMove="DayPilotCalendar1_EventMove" EventEditHandling="CallBack" OnEventEdit="DayPilotCalendar1_EventEdit" EventClickHandling="Edit" OnBeforeEventRender="DayPilotCalendar1_BeforeEventRender" EventResizeHandling="CallBack" OnEventResize="DayPilotCalendar1_EventResize" EventDoubleClickHandling="CallBack" OnEventDoubleClick="DayPilotCalendar1_EventDoubleClick" oncommand="DayPilotCalendar1_Command" and here is the complete codebehind protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) Initialization(); } private void dbUpdateEvent(string id, DateTime start, DateTime end) { // update for move using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["db"].ConnectionString)) { con.Open(); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("UPDATE [event] SET [eventstart] = @start, [eventend] = @end WHERE [id] = @id", con); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("id", id); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("start", start); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("end", end); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } private DataTable dbGetEvents(DateTime start, int days) { // get Data SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter("SELECT [id], [name], [eventstart], [eventend], [state], [other] FROM [event] WHERE NOT (([eventend] <= @start) OR ([eventstart] >= @end))", ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DayPilotTest"].ConnectionString); ; da.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("start", start); da.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("end", start.AddDays(days)); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); return dt; } protected void DayPilotCalendar1_EventMove(object sender, DayPilot.Web.Ui.Events.EventMoveEventArgs e) { // Drag and Drop dbUpdateEvent(e.Value, e.NewStart, e.NewEnd); DayPilotCalendar1.DataSource = dbGetEvents(DayPilotCalendar1.StartDate, DayPilotCalendar1.Days); DayPilotCalendar1.DataBind(); DayPilotCalendar1.Update(); } private void Initialization() { // first bind DayPilotCalendar1.StartDate = DayPilot.Utils.Week.FirstDayOfWeek(new DateTime(2009, 1, 1)); DayPilotCalendar1.DataSource = dbGetEvents(DayPilotCalendar1.StartDate, DayPilotCalendar1.Days); DataBind(); } protected void DayPilotCalendar1_BeforeEventRender(object sender, BeforeEventRenderEventArgs e) { // change the color based on state if (e.Tag["State"] == "Fixed") { e.DurationBarColor = "Brown"; } } protected void DayPilotCalendar1_EventResize(object sender, DayPilot.Web.Ui.Events.EventResizeEventArgs e) { dbUpdateEvent(e.Value, e.NewStart, e.NewEnd); DayPilotCalendar1.DataSource = dbGetEvents(DayPilotCalendar1.StartDate, DayPilotCalendar1.Days); DayPilotCalendar1.DataBind(); DayPilotCalendar1.Update(); } protected void DayPilotCalendar1_EventDoubleClick(object sender, EventClickEventArgs e) { dbInsertEvent(e.Text , e.Start, e.End, "New", "New Meeting"); DayPilotCalendar1.DataSource = dbGetEvents(DayPilotCalendar1.StartDate, DayPilotCalendar1.Days); DayPilotCalendar1.DataBind(); DayPilotCalendar1.Update(); } note that I remove unnecessary code behinds

  • OpenGL FrameBuffer Objects weird behavior

    - by Ben Jones
    My algorithm is this: Render the scene to a FBO with shadow mapping from multiple locations Render the scene to the screen with shadow mapping ...black magic that I still have to imlement... Combine the samples from step 1 with the image from step 2 I'm trying to debug steps 1 and 2 and am coming across STRANGE behavior. My algorithm for each shadow mapped pass is: render the scene to a FBO connected to a depth array texture from the POV of each light render the scene from the viewpoint and use vertex/frag shaders to compare the depths When I run my algorithm this way: render from point to FBO render from point to screen glutSwapBuffers() The normal vectors in the screen pass appear to be incorrect (inverted possibly). I'm pretty sure that's the issue because my diffuse lighting calculation is incorrect, but the material colors are correct, and the shadows appear in the correct places. So, it seems like the only thing that could be the culprit is the normals. However if I do render from point to FBO render from point to Screen glutSwapBuffers() //wrong here render from point to Screen glutSwapBuffers() the second pass is correct. I assume there's a problem with my framebuffer calls. Can anyone see what the problem is from the log below? Its from a bugle trace grepped for 'buffer' with a few edits to make it a little more clear. Thanks! • Trouble with deploying Sonatype Nexus to Tomcat6 on Gentoo (log4j)

    - by John
    Hi there. I'm running a tomcat-6 server on Gentoo. I'm having trouble deploying Nexus to my tomcat server (nexus-war from the sonatype website, and tomcat6 via emerge). The localhost log displays the following when Nexus is started: May 31, 2010 6:50:52 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext listenerStart SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.sonatype.nexus.web.LogConfigListener java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not create default log4j.properties into /dev/null/sonatype-work/nexus/conf/log4j.properties at org.sonatype.nexus.web.LogConfigListener.ensureLogConfigLocation(LogConfigListener.java:130) at org.sonatype.nexus.web.LogConfigListener.contextInitialized(LogConfigListener.java:53) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStart(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.addChildInternal(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.addChild(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHost.addChild(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.deployWAR(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.deployWARs(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.deployApps(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.lifecycleEvent(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.util.LifecycleSupport.fireLifecycleEvent(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHost.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngine.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardServer.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.start(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.start(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /dev/null/sonatype-work/nexus/conf/log4j.properties (Not a directory) at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.(FileOutputStream.java:179) at java.io.FileOutputStream.(FileOutputStream.java:131) at org.codehaus.plexus.util.FileUtils.copyStreamToFile(FileUtils.java:1058) at org.codehaus.plexus.util.FileUtils.copyURLToFile(FileUtils.java:1018) at org.sonatype.nexus.web.LogConfigListener.ensureLogConfigLocation(LogConfigListener.java:126) ... 25 more For some reason it looks for the sonatype-work folder in /dev/null. Any help is greatly appreciated.
