  • How to mirror filesystems with millions of hardlinks?

    We have one big problem at the moment: We need to mirror a filesystem for one of our customers. Thats usual not really a problem, but here it is: On this filesystem there is one folder with millions of hardlinks (yes! MILLIONS!). rsync requires more then 4 days to just build the filelist. We use the following rsync options: rsync -Havz --progress serverA:/data/cms /data/ Has anyone a idea how to speed up this rsync, or use alternatives? We could not use dd as the target disk is smaller then the source.

  • HOWTO run Wordpress site along with Tomcat web aplication on the same server

    I am building a solution where the CMS part of the site (i.e. About US, Contact etc) will be run on Wordpress & the private pages will be a Java-Servlet based stack run on Tomcat 7. Both of these "apps" have to run on the same server for budget reasons, at least for now. What I want to know how to make this happen (via configurations, setups etc)? So that whenever users come to public pages they will be served content from Wordpress but for private pages (here I am assuming there will be a URL pattern differentiating this) then it will be served by Tomcat I am assuming here that I will be using Apache as the server for fronting the wordpress requests. Also it is an Ubuntu 12.04 server.

    Hopefully this is programming related. Many people have reported that the NTFS-3G driver works perfectly for writing to NTFS drives without any problems. If NTFS has been successfully reverse engineered to a useful degree, then why is the kernel driver still only read-only, with write support being very dangerous.....just as it was 5 years agi?

    I have a memcache instance running that has a 90% hit ratio. How can I estimate how much more memory it needs to get to a 95% hit ratio? edit: This question was blocked, but I do not think this is impossible to answer. After all, anyone that's used a caching system HAS answered this question, most likely with trial&error&luck. I can look at my usage patterns. I can increase or decrease memory and see how hit rate changes. Both of these provide data that informs an estimate. But what's a good/better/best way to do this?

Basic workflow of events: Customer sends email to [email protected] from [email protected] ACME administrator receives notification and can moderate email After moderation administrator confirm an email and send it to [email protected] John answears to [email protected] Before the email is send it is moderated again by ACME administrator What is important, that this functionality is easy to do with some CMS/CMF systems.   • Any reason not to disable the Windows pagefile given enough physical RAM?

    The question of disabling the Windows pagefile has already been discussed quite a bit, for example here and here and here. People continue to upvote answers that say "you should not disable your pagefile even if you have plenty of RAM", but I have yet to see any concrete, verifiable reasons being given for this advice. As far as I can see, if you never need to read from the pagefile (because you have enough RAM) then performance could only be worse with it enabled due to Windows pre-emptively writing to it. At best, performance would be the same. I can't see how it could possibly be improved by writing data you never need to read. So my question is: Assuming that I have enough physical RAM for everything I do, is there any reason I should not disable the pagefile? Let's say the version of Windows is Windows XP x64 SP2 or Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2 (same thing). If it's different for Windows Server 2008 x64 I'd be interested to hear an answer for that as well. I'm looking for specific, objective reasons from good sources, not just opinions. Something like "here are the benchmarks done with and without a pagefile and the results were better with a pagefile, even with enough RAM" or "according to this MS KB article problem X occurs if you disable the pagefile". So far the only reasons I've seen mentioned are: Even if you think you have enough RAM you might run out. OK, but for the purposes of this question, let's just take it as a given that I have enough. Maybe I only ever read my email and I have 16GB RAM. Or 128GB. Or 1TB. Or whatever - but it's enough for 100% of what I do, 100% of the time. Another way to think of it is: if I have x MB physical RAM and y MB pagefile and I never run out of RAM in that configuration, would I not be better off, performance-wise, with x+y MB physical RAM and no pagefile? Windows is "used to" having a paging file and it might not function as reliably (from Understanding the Impact of RAM on Overall System Performance That's rather vague and I find it hard to believe, given that MS has provided the option to disable the pagefile. Windows knows what it's doing better than you. No - it doesn't know that I won't run more programs or load more data, but I do.

  • Why does a pdf file download result in varying bytes logged, all with sc-status 200

    I have a mojoportal CMS installation on an IIS7 server where users are reporting problems downloading a pdf file. It always downloads fine for me and most others, either displaying in browser or in Adobe Reader. Using logparser to query the IIS logs, all the responses are status 200 (OK) or 304 (Not modified), but the bytes sent vary quite a bit. Sometimes zero, some 211, some about half the full file size of 27059, and lots in between. Plenty show the full size of 27059. Do these other entries for smaller byte counts represent errors of some kind, correlating with the problems reported? Is this likely to be a browser/client issue or a server side problem? If there is any other info that would be helpful let me know. This is a shared hosting server though so I am somewhat limited in what I can dig into on the server.

    I'm running vsftpd using the Debian Lenny package. ftp:nogroup is the user/group that uploads files and owns uploaded files. However, a problem is arising - another process is also writing files to the FTP directory as myprocess:mygroup with restrictive file permissions, preventing vsftpd from overwriting the myprocess authored files. Is it possible to tell vsftpd to use a different user/group for uploading files? (preferably as myprocess:mygroup or ftp:mygroup)

    Hi, I am using Word 2010 and some built-in features with fields, such as bibliography. My Word installation is English and I am writing a report in US English. However, my computer has its locale set to Denmark. This affects the formatting of dates and some of the text in the auto-generated fields (e.g. in bibliography it says "citeret:" instead of "cited:").     I have an ECS P4M800PRO-M478 motherboard and I'm just setting up the jumpers right now, of which there are only two sets. One is the CLR_CMOS jumper, which is set to Normal, of course. However, there is another set called BIOS_WP which controls whether BIOS flash writing is protected or unprotected. Which setting should I have it set at and would this affect any BIOS flashes in the future?

    Hi, the current Linux software environment for IPv6 load balancing looks a bit grim. IPVS has rudimentary support for IPv6 but it's far from complete. NAT for IPv6 seems to be a no-go. Are there any other projects which aim for this goal? Does the IPv6 support in other OS look better? Are there any commercial products which have been successfully used in production environments with non-trivial load patterns?   • Color Management, Linux, Photoshop C2 via Wine

    I am new to Color Management CMS, so doing it on Linux, and then throw Wine into the mix ... and I am a little lost. However, I have Photoshop CS2 running okay with Crossover Professional on Ubuntu 9.10. I have a Canon 450D (Rebel XSI) and I imagine I will be able to find a profile for my printer. I ordered a Huey Calibrator (yet to come). I guess I will run into problems with Nvidia Twinview, but one calibrated monitor is good enough for now. Am I going to be able to get color management from Camera -- Monitor -- Print? Most specifically, when I get the Monitor profile loaded with something like xcalib, will Photoshop CS2 run through wine (crossover Pro) understand that? Will I need to select specific things / profiles in photoshop under the edit::Color Settings menu? I found several pages on http://jcornuz.wordpress.com/ helpful, but am wondering about the Wine issue, and anything else anyone can do to help.

    This would be for under Linux particularly. Is there a tool out there, or a script that I could use to monitor IP connections--with name resolution--and, see which process they're connected to? Right now I'm using this: watch -d netstat -peeW --numeric-hosts --inet But that doesn't give me host resolution. I was thinking of writing up a script with sed or something, but that seemed like more work than it needed to be.

    I need a program that can write what you input in it, and "writing" it back on another process, letter by letter, not copying and pasting it back. Basically, I have a insanely huge file that would take me about a month of non-stop keyboard typing and I can't simply control-C to the other program because it doesn't allow pasting text (go figure).     There is huge number of different formats for virtual storage files for desktop and server purposes (vmdk, qcow2, vdi, vdk, etc.). I'm writing a little script for manipulating them and would like the script to be able to distinguish between them. Of course, it can be done via extension, but I want this to be more reliable. I tried commands file or qemu-img, but the results are not quite clear. Any idea improving my methods?

  • Commerce Server 2009 with SharePoint 2010 experiences

    Hi, I'm trying to decide to between using MojoPortal for my organizations CMS or Commerce Server 2009 with SharePoint 2010. We already have SharePoint 2010 for our intranet. In that thinking, perhaps it would make sense to deploy the same technology? We do not have a lot of traffic but do need basic e-commerce functionality. I haven't really found a lot of documentation for Commerce Server 2009. It would have to share the same server with SharePoint 2010. I'm not worried about that because of the low traffic. I'm worried about how difficult it is to install. Is it a nightmare product to install or is it pretty straightforward? Is it unrealistic for it to share a server with SharePoint 2010, even in relatively low traffic? Any experiences with administering MojoPortal? Thanks!
