  I'm developing software for tablet pcs and so far I've used some lenovo's (x41), some toshiba's (portege m200) and some gateways (M275). Granted: the machines we've gotten have predominantly been refurbs, but they're failing 80-90% of the time. Part of the reason that they're failing is users inevitably dropping them, so I'm looking at potentially some rugged tablet pcs. The problem that I'm running into is that Current tablet pcs are high spec (much higher than I'm looking for at least) The rugged tablet manufacturer space seems to be filled with lots of small companies that I don't trust yet. I'm looking for tablet PCs (keyboard or no) that can support: XP tpc (optional win 7) single core 1.5-2ghz 1gb ram wifi optional gsm optional gps very optional vehicle docking solutions The budget I've got is tight (but slightly flexible - So are there any reputable tablet pc vendors out there that can do this.

• Is NSNumberFormatter the only way to format an NSDecimalNumber?

  I'm using an NSDecimalNumber to store money in Core Data. I naively used stringWithFormat: at first to format the value, later realizing that it didn't support NSDecimalNumber and was instead formatting the pointer :(. So after some reading through the docs I learned to use the NSNumberFormatter to get the format I wanted. But this just strikes me as the "hard way". Is there any easier way than this:?   I am loading Magento blocks outside of Magento for certain parts of my site. • Using the Ninject NLogModule Logger in global.asax

  I'm using Ninject for DI in my asp.net application, so my Global class inherits from NinjectHttpApplication. In my CreateKernel(), I'm creating my custom modules and DI is working fine for me. However, I notice that there is a Logger property in the NinjectHttpApplication class, so I'm trying to use this in Application_Error whenever an exception is not caught. I think I'm creating the nlog module correctly for Ninject, but my logger is always null. Having known the power and scalability of J2ee applications, what is keeping developers/decision makers to restrict themselves to Core Java (POJOs) or even other web technologies like PHP, python. Is it the development time? Is it the Ease of configuration? (I feel this should not be a strong reason with Java EE 6, things are simplified) Of course scripting languages are faster to develop, we cannot ignore the fact that they are inherently not-as-scalable as Java Applications are (using App servers)

  I'm trying to setup a server-client interraction: Server gets a string from client Server returns data to client I got this working with socket.send and socket.recv, but was wondering how to get it working with files through socket.makefile. I've got most of the pieces working, but don't know how to force each of the pieces to read at the appropriate time. So what it looks like is happening is that both the client and server are reading on the socket at the same time. Any ideas on how to let the server complete the original read before the client starts waiting for its information? Below are the core pieces that reproduce the read lock.   I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. • Will Visual Studio 2010 only run 4.0 unit tests?

  I have different projects written in .NET 3.5 and some unit test projects to cover them. When converting my solution to be used in Visual Studio 2010 I keep all my projects in 3.5 but the unit tests are forced to 4.0? This way I cannot use them with my regular projects anymore. Resulting in this: Could not load file or assembly 'xxx.xxx.Core.UnitTest' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. So I can't unit test any project less then 4.0? Or am I doing something wrong here?

  I've set up a CRON to call a URL in Kohana 3. php /home/user/public_html/index.php my/route/in/bootstrap.php It seems to access the URL fine. However, I have received this error (send back in an email that my host sends per CRON) Undefined index: HTTP_HOST SYSPATH/classes/kohana/url.php [ 40 ] Source of url.php Which is in a Kohana system file. Is this because the CRON job is not sending HTTP headers? How would I fix this and get it to work (hopefully without hacking the core files). Or am I doing the CRON wrong?

  I am using hibernate on the server side with a client application started via Java Web Start. I can't sign the jars (I'd like to but I can't). I get a permission exception when I get a POJO with lazy fields.   I have dnn 5.2 running on my machine, and installed the blog module, the blog module is also reflected in the development environment i have. But i want to find out, how do i actually develope, or build the blog from source, so i can actually output the .dll file, instead of just running it. If i import the Blog project file from the folder, it will give me a host of error like .resx file not found and so on. Does any dotnetnuke expert out there know about this?And have encountered the problem before? If not, how do you actually make the module work so u can make changes to the module. Im talking about core logic change, like adding functions, not just skin or UI changes.

  I am trying to configure my message endpoint mapping in my NServiceBus configuration by sending messages from different namespaces to different endpoints. As such, I have configured the following in my web.config: However, when my application starts, I receive the following exception: Spring.Objects.PropertyAccessExceptionsException: PropertyAccessExceptionsException (1 errors); nested PropertyAccessExceptions are: [Spring.Core.TypeMismatchException: Cannot convert property value of type [System.Collections.Hashtable] to required type [System.Collections.IDictionary] for property 'MessageOwners'., Inner Exception: System.ArgumentException: Problem loading message assembly: Company.Messages.Payments --- System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Company.Messages.Payments' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. File name: 'Company.Messages.Payments' What I find interesting is that it seems to have found Company.Messages.Accounts but failed on the second configured line. I thought that maybe it didn't like have them all go to the same endpoint, but changing this configuration to have them go different endpoints didn't change the error message I received. What am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to segment messages by namespace (all I have seen is by type and by assembly)? Thanks, Steve

• A report writer for non-programmers?

  Hello, we are wanting for users to be able to write their own reports in our application. It is a web application. We don't care if they must download an application in order to create reports, but we need for them to be able to print off reports from the web in PDF format or similar. The report writer is to be used by non-programmers, or at best very light programmers(like the ones that make VBA macros and such). (the writer is not a core part of the program though. So if there is a learning curve, then that is acceptable to a certain extent) We were looking at Crystal Reports but it seems like it'll cost $7000 which is just way too much for right now(though our system is very flexible so could support it eventually). We are also looking at Fast Reports which seems pretty promising, but I'm not sure the report writer would be easy for non-programmers to grasp. Can someone recommend a good report writer for non programmers that won't break the bank?

  As part of trying out django CMS (http://www.django-cms.org/), I'm struggling with getting Python-MySQLdb to work (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/MySQL-python/). I have installed Django CMS and all of its dependencies (Python 2.5, Django, django-south, MySQL server) I'm trying out the example code within Django CMS code with MySQL as chosen database type When I execute python manage.py syncdb, the following error occurs: django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: Error loading MySQLdb module: /root/.python-eggs/MySQL_python-1.2.3c1-py2.5-linux-i686.egg-tmp/_mysql.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 I have been able to trace the problem specifically to python-mySQLdb (as also visible in the stack trace). Other than that, I am completely puzzled. I don't have a clue what ELFCLASS32 means, or what ELF class is anyway. I suspect that this error could have something to do with the fact that I am running 64-bit version of Debian 5 (on a VPS). Any good ideas how to troubleshoot?

  I am running Rails 3 Beta2 and attempting to get Autotest working with rspec. • Update {node_counter} table programatically in drupal

  I currently use the statistics module (core) on my Drupal 6 install. This increments a count in the {node_counter} table every time the node is viewed, and this works. My question is - can I programmatically increment this counter as well? I am looking to achieve this when users interact with content created from views (say click a lightbox), so being able to update the table with AJAX would be ideal. I have done a quick search on d.o and there doesn't appear to be any modules that stick out straight away. Does anyone have any experience with this?

• Are the svn ruby bindings provided as a gem?

  I see a couple dozen gems that relate to svn, but what little documentation I can find on any of them shows that they are command-line wrappers and misc helpers. (svn-command, svn-hooks, etc.) I've seen code in the wild that does things like: require 'svn/core' and SVN.Repos.add(...), but the author of that module pulled his svn ruby tools via apt-get. This would not be an option for me, as I'm developing a windows/osx tool. Which gem am I after? From there, I'm happy to dig through code in lieu of documents, but with a call to gem query --name-matches svn --remote returning about 30 hits, I need to narrow it down a bit first.

• How do I stub a view in rspec-2

  I'm in the process of upgrading an app to Rails 3/Rspec 2. I see that stubbing a view helper method has changed in Rspec 2. It looks like instead of doing template.stub!, we're now supposed to do view.stub!, but I can't seem to get this to work on beta 10. I get an "undefined local variable or method `view' for # < RSpec::Core::ExampleGroup::Nested_1::Nested_1::Nested_1:0x106785fd0" error. I see that in this commit David removed the view method, but I can't figure out what it was replaced with. Something in ActionView::TestCase::Behavior? I'm on rails 3.0.0.beta3. Any idea what I'm missing?

  I'm trying to use xUnit.net as the test runner for SpecFlow. The SpecFlow 1.2 binaries from the official download area don't contain an xUnit.net provider but the master branch on GitHub has one, so I build SpecFlow.Core.dll from that. I'm using xUnit.net 1.5. However, when I change the unitTestProvider name in the app.config in my spec project, I get a null reference custom tool error and the generated .feature.cs file is the single line: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Has anyone succeeded in getting SpecFlow to work with xUnit.net? If so, how?

• Using .net 3.5 assemblies in asp.net 2.0 web application

  I have an .net assembly build against 3.5 framework. This assembly has a class Foo with two method overrides: public class Foo { public T Set<T>(T value); public T Set<T>(Func<T> getValueFunc); } I'm referencing this assembly in my asp.net 2.0 web application to use first override of the Set method (without Func). But on build I get an error saying that I should reference System.Core to use System.Func delegate... but I'm not using this type... Is there a workaround to solve this? PS: There is no option to convert my web application targeting 3.5 framework.
