• IIS7 application pool spawning worker processes

  IIS7 ASP.net 2.0 Number of worker processes growing out of control in single app pool. Appear to keep spawning upwards. Monitoring the w3wp.exe process i can see "current connections" to web service sometimes spawn out of control but not always , only worker processes are consistently growing when this issue occurs. Number of worker processes normally 0 - 20 , when spawning they can reach 1000 + This was deployed in: %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet.config maxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU="50000" maxConcurrentThreadsPerCPU="0" requestQueueLimit="50000" But issue still occurs. Have tried running PROCDUMP on the exe process but the mini dump isnt a great help. I understand this is 99% probable an app issue , what i need help with is tracking it down. Thank you for any tips.   I have spent most of my development career writing backend code, or front-end apps for used as daily business tools, by at least semi-skilled staff, e.g. order-tracking, sales capture, etc. That those I helped build peformed their tasks well is comfort enough, but I am still seeking excellence in the building of these kind of apps, versus the more trendy emphasis on slow and sensual interpersonal relationships with the UI. Can anyone recommend reading on this type of application (LOB?) on the web today? Any available examples to study?

• curl makes a site work externally once run locally (apache)

  Currently when I visit mysite.mydomain.com external to the local network I get in the browser: This is the default web page for this server. Nothing to see here. This is not even the "It Work's" Apache page. Then if locally (Apache2 on Ubuntu Server 12.04 with curl installed ) type: curl mysite.mydomain.com I get the site I expect. Then the next time i visit the page externally I get the correct site. Has anyone seen this before? Tips/Suggestions?

• Setting up scripts in Amazon EC2 Cloud

  Hello, I am currently running a few perl and python scripts on a windows pc and would like to port over to the Amazon EC2 servers running 64-bit LINUX. The scripts are basic web scrapers that go to a variety of websites, get data and then save daily as csv files. I would like to install these in the cloud and get them running in an automated way so that they will run without my intervention. Also given that I don't want to lose all the data if the instance crashes, I should also upload the csv files to Amazon S3. Any idea how I can do this? I am not terribly versed in LINUX nor do I know Perl/Python well. What is the best way for me to tackle thi

• XP Clients can't copy to networkshare

  i have a windows 2003 domain where i have strange problem. One of our file shares is on a 2003r2 domain controller, xp clients trying to copy files on the share are always getting the error error copying file or folder filename could not be copied. path too long while windows 7 clients work fine. Nothing unusal is found in the eventlog on both the server and the client. It doesn't matter if i access the share by fqdn or ip, the path is including filename shorter than 20 characters i.e. \path\share\file.txt Copying files to other servers is fine. Reading from the shares is ok too. Happened from one day to the other, one windows update that was installed this day (kb2736233) was removed but nothing changed. thanks for any tips

• Does SELECT COUNT(*) work with MySQLi prepared statements?

  I'm working on a test page and am using MySQLi prepared statements in my queries after reading they make my code safe from SQL injection. I have been successful with prepared statements so far with retrieving data from my DB, that all works great. What I want to do now is count the number of galleries within a project using SELECT COUNT(*). That's it. Without using a prepared statement, my old query looked like this: // count number of galleries per project $conn = dbConnect('query'); $galNumb = "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM pj_galleries WHERE project = {$pjInfo['pj_id']}"; $gNumb = $conn->query($galNumb); $row = $gNumb->fetch_row(); $galTotal = $row[0]; But for all my reading and searching the internet, I can not find out the proper way to write this as a prepared statement. I'm no PHP whiz here, and not coding daily isn't helping my skills. If I've missed anything please ask. Many thanks!

• Listing C/C++ functions (Code analysis in Unix)

  Whether we're maintaining unfamiliar code or checking out the implementation details of an Apache module it can help if we can quickly traverse the code and build up an overview of what we're looking at. Grep serves most of my daily needs but there are some cases where it just wont do. Here's a common example of how it can help. To find the definition of a PHP function I'm interested in I can type this at the command line: grep -r "function myfunc" . This could be adapted very quickly to C or C++ if we know the return type, but things become more complicated if, say, I want to list every method that my class provides: grep "function " ./src/mine.class.php Since there's no single keyword that denotes a function or method in C++ and because it's generally more complex syntax, I think I'd need some kind of static code analysis tool, smart use of the C Preprocessor or blind faith the coder followed strict code guidelines (# of whitespace, position of curlies etc) to get these sorts of results. What would you recommend? p.s. be nice, this is my first post ;-) :p

  I have two servers, server1 and server2 on same network but require username and password to be mapped. server1 has a text file as C:\Users\output.txt. I want to create and schedule a batch script on server1, which should copy and replace output.txt file from server1 to server2 at path E:\data\output.txt on daily basis. I don't want to map server2 manually every time I start my computer nor do I want to enter my username and password each time. • C++ corrupt my thinking, how to trust auto garbage collector?

  I use to program mainly with C/C++, that's make me dealing with pointers and memory management daily. This days I'm trying to develop using other tools, such as Java, Python and Ruby. The problem is that I keep thinking C++ style, I'm writing code as C++ usually written in almost every programming language, and the biggest problem is the memory management, I keep writing bad code using references in Java and just get as close as I can to the C++ style. So I need 2 thinks here, one is to trust the garbage collector, let's say by seeing benchmarks and proofs that it's realy working in Java, and know what I should never do in order to get my code the best way it can be. And the second think is knowing how to write other languages code. I mean I know what to do, I'm just never write the code as most Java or Python programmers usually do, are there any books for C++ programmers just to introduce me to the writing conventions? (by the way, forgive me for my English mistakes)

  Hi There, What I am trying to achieve is a report on daily financial transactions. With my SQL query I would like to count the total number of cash transactions, the total cash value and the same for checks. I only want to do this for a specified date. Here is a snippet of the query that I am having trouble with. These sum and count commands are processing all the data in the table and not for the selected date. (SELECT SUM(amount) FROM TRANSACTION WHERE payment_type.name = 'cash') AS total_cash, (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TRANSACTION WHERE payment_type.name = 'cash') AS total_cash_transactions Sorry if I havent posted enough detail as I haven't time. • DIagnosing another Windows 7 Lockup

  Im running windows 7 on a fairly modern machine (8gb ram, amd fx-6100, gtx 560ti) and I notice that periodically my windows seems to just hang for a little while. Frequently this occurs after a cold boot and i start up five or six small to medium sized programs, but also occasionally it occurs during normal usage. Basically what occurs is the screen locks up, there is no keyboard responsiveness for a period of 30 seconds to a full minute - after a bit of patience, control is returned, but I'm interested in figuring out what is causing such lockups. I checked the event log and dont see any issues, and all i can see in task manager is a spike in cpu and memory usage right after this occurs. Any tips on how to even begin to diagnose this? Thanks.

  I have been asked to help a small non profit organasation with some IT problems. They currently have a mailing list of around 200 people saved on a mac inside adres book. Now currently these people are send emails in groups of around 20 as the standard apple email program does not allow more. I know that there are programs that can be used to send email to a larger number of people however these usually require a database and I'm not sure how to use those. Anybody got any tips?

  We have a Wildcard SSL Certificate that is supposed to work on any subdomain of a given domain. So in this server we have this file structure: /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainx /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainy etc... Now, the Certificate is installed, but when you visit any subdomain over https (example: hxxps://subdomainx.domain.com ) it points to /home/DOMAIN/public_html/index.php We need that when you visit a subdomain via https hxxps://subdomainx.domain.com That it points to the the same directory that it's http equivalent: /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainx Our provider tells us that this is not possible, that the current behaviour is correct, and that to achieve this we need to do it with htaccess. I've tried a few things, incluiding this solution, that seems to be what I need: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5365612/advice-on-configuring-htaccess-file-to-redirect-http-subdomain-to-https-equival But can't get it to work. • connections on port 80 suddenly refused / server not responding

  my dedicated server stopped responding to requests on port 80 today out of sudden, i havent touched anything in more than a month. its ubuntu 10, varnish + nginx + php-fpm, only 1 website. load is at 0. i messaged my ISP if they changed something but no reply yet. i tried to access the site via http://web-sniffer.net/ and it times out on port 80, but if i connect directly to nginx on port 8080 it loads just fine. for normal users, it doesnt load on neither of these in normal browser. any tips what to check or what could be causing this?

  I have created one SSRS text report. I have built and deployed it successfully. I am also able to view it from the report manager succesfully. I am a local admin on windows server but not on SQL Server. Issue :- I am trying to schedule a report to run on a daily basis. When I go to Data sources to store my windows id credentials, it's not allowing me to do so throwing below error. The permissions granted to user 'app\abcid' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Things I have tried :- Added my windows domain id to report manager and given all roles that are there still no success. Added server to the trusted sites in the IE, still no success.

• Web UI prototyping tools

  Can anyone recomend me a simple web UI prototyping tool, so I could quicky prototype the look of a my web site. I have tried to use MS Visio for this, but found it very "user un-friendly". What I really need is to be able quicky sketch the layout of the page, put some links, images and buttons on in, play a little bit with a colors (CSS), and it would be great it this tool could support navigation between the pages - but it is not essential. I would rather consider a low-cost or an open-source solution, since I am not a web designer and not going to use that tool on a daily basis.

• WAMP: Apache refusing connections outside the network

  I have wamp installed. I ran the server, everything is running fine from localhost and my local ip address. I forwarded port 80 on my router. Whenever I try to access the server from the outside, using my real ip, it doesn't work and timeouts. I though port forwarding is not working, forwarded another port for different service and it went through, so the problem is with apache. I checked the error log, didn't find any errors. Skype is off. Any tips what could be causing this? Thanks!

  Hi, I have a financial cube and i have to calculate Daily Sales Outstanding as : Number of Days between the selected month last date and the earliest transaction date when cummulative sum of Revenue from last date of the month till the date where sum revenue <= the debt amount for the date . e.g On 31/12/2009 my debt amount = 2,500,000 31-Dec-09 30-Nov-09 15-Oct-09 31-Oct-09 Revenue 1,000,000 1,000,000 500,000 1,0000 Cummulative sum of revenue 1,000,000 2,00,000 2,500,000 4,000,000 No of Days 31 30 16 On 15/Oct/09 cummulative revenue is 2,500,000 which equals my debt amount on that day Count of Days = 31 + 31 + 16 = 76 Days. In other words Sum Revenue from the selected date backwards until sum total equals or exeeds the total to date balance of the debtors. Any help will be highly appreciated . • Updating Versioned .NET Assembly References

  I have a C++/CLI project that needs to reference a .NET assembly. I've done so by going into the project properties and clicking "Add New Reference", and browsing to the assembly location (it's not part of the solution, so I cannot create a project-to-project reference, and the .NET assembly is not in the GAC so it isn't in the .NET tab when viewing the references to add) When the .NET assembly is updated (that is, since it is versioned, it will increment its version number daily), the C++/CLI project fails to compile because it is still referencing the older version. The workaround I've been doing is deleting the .NET reference and adding it back in, but this is not feasible. How do I have it recognize the newer assembly?? Note: The older assembly is replaced with the newer one, so it is in the same location, but doesn't know that it should use the newer version.

• Why is Harvest being purchased at all?

  Does your work environment use Harvest SCM? I've used this now at two different locations and find it appalling. In one situation I wrote a conversion script so I could use CVS locally and then daily import changes to the Harvest system while I was sleeping. The corp was fanatic about using Harvest, despite 80% of the programmers crying for something different. It was needlessly complicated, slow and heavy. It is now a job requirement for me that Harvest is not in use where I work. Has anyone else used Harvest before? What's your experience? As bad as mine? Did you employ other, different workarounds? Why is this product still purchased today?

  Possible Duplicate: Prevent mail being marked as spam I have an Ubuntu server that I want to be able to send out several thousand emails each containing a generic header and an unique pdf attachment containing an invoice. What I want to know is what would be the best way to accomplish this? Also, are there any other programs I need to install such as anti-virus / verification tools? I would like to be able to know what the procedures for this normally are as I would prefer that the emails are not send to the junk folder of the clients receiving the emails.   Greetings. I am querying tables from Microsoft SQL 2008 which have date split across 3 columns: day, month and year. Unfortunately, I do not have control over this because data is coming in to the database daily from a 3rd party source in that format. I need to add between to a where clause so user can pull records within a range. Would be easy enough if date was in a single column but finding it nearly impossible when its split across three columns. To display the date, I am doing a CAST( CAST(year as varchar(4)) + '-' + CAST(month as varchar(2)) + '-' + CAST(day as varchar(2)) as date) AS "date"` in a select. I tried to put it as a parameter for datediff function or just the regular between but get no results. Thanks for any help.

• ssh login with multi-keys (several users) from the same workstation

  Basically, as it comes from the title, I'd like to login from my workstation to a SSH server by using different account in different shells. What I'd like to do is to backup all my account from this server to my hard drive by using rsync, but as you know rsync can get a connection if the keys have been generated. I have already an account set with key for login without pass. What I did was to generate a key on the server and then download it on my ~/.ssh folder. I tried it with another account and I chanced the name of the key. Then I download it in my ~/.ssh...but no way to get it work. I am not an expert of this stuff. If you would provide any tips or way to set it up I would really appreciate your help. Cheers
