  • HP 6350b Laptop is my battery really dead or is it a software problem

    I installed windows 7 and noticed that the battery status was "plugged in, not charging". I tried unplugging the battery, uninstalling the microsoft ACPI compliant Control Method, updating bios,windows. All to no avail. at first I tought it was related to windows 7 because it's a brand new laptop. But I also tested with a knoppix live cd, and there the output of acpi -V is this Battery 0: Unknown, 0% What else can I test to figure out what's going on.

  • ustream and justin.tv don't work, UTube and bitgravity are fine

    Can anyone explain this? On this laptop, ustream and justin.tv don't work - just get a blank screen. But UTube and bitgravoty work fine (also flash based). 64-bit windows 7 - but I have 64-bit windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works fine there. Good place to test is here http://live.twit.tv/ where the bitgravity feeds work fine, but ustream and justin.tv don't.

    I'm trying to back up some data on an external hard drive and am finding the transfer rate to be unbearably slow. My environment is as follows: Macbook Pro Unibody (late 2008) Windows 7 RC, 64-bit Lacie, rugged 500GB portable hard drive I have tried using a number of methods including simple copying in Explorer, Teracopy, Crashplan, and Windows backup. I am averaging around 1MB/s which seems terribly slow. How do I identify what is the cause of this slow file transfer, and then how do I go about addressing the issue.

I want the machine to be snappy and responsive even when doing a reasonable amount of Development work.   • Novell eDirectory—How can I aggregate account lockout events?

    I'm seeing an account become locked out pretty frequently and I wanted to pull an aggregated log together of all of the lockout events so I could get a better idea of what times it's occurring. Normally I'd do this with EventCombMT.exe, but I'm in a Novell environment at the moment. Is there a Novell equivalent to Microsoft's ALTools or another diagnostic utility I could use to help aggregate lockout events into an easy to read log file?

  • Outlook Connector - not syncing webmail inbox?

    I use Outlook 2007, and have a Hotmail/Live webmail account. Using Outlook Connector, I want them to be synced to Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 HP machine, however when I click on the folder name (e.g. [email protected]) in the 'Navigation Pane' under all the usual folders such as 'Inbox', 'Deleted Items', etc, it just shows a blank inbox stating that there are no items to be shown.

  • Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca

    I have recently (as of July 2012) bought a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca laptop. It came pre-installed with Windows 7 on an MBR. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it on a GPT partition in what I think is BIOS emulation mode. I made a BIOS-Grub partition so the install didn't fail. That is what it is for .. right? Now I want to upgrade to UEFI mode. How would I Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca. Or is it impossible? My laptop, despite its new age may not be UEFI 2.0+ capable. If it isn't how can I install a software UEFI (i.e. a DUET such as the one by tianocore). Or is this too impossible? Set the boot flag on the 200MB partition. What should a do next to install Ubuntu 12.04?   • How to reinstall Mac OS X on OS X/Linux dual-boot system?

    My setup: I have a MacBook Pro 5,5 with a Mac OS X Snow Leopard partition and a Linux partition. I use rEFIt to boot into Linux. I didn't use Boot Camp when I originally installed Linux; instead, I manually created the partition (with either Disk Utility in OS X or Gparted on a Linux live CD--I don't recall which one) and then installed Linux on it from a live CD. The problem: My OS X partition is corrupt, and I need to reinstall Snow Leopard. Since I installed rEFIt from within OS X, I'm concerned that wiping the OS X partition will prevent me from booting into my Linux partition. How can I do this without losing access to my Linux partition? Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on the partition I reserved for it, or will it automatically overwrite the entire drive? And if I do the fresh OS X install and then install rEFIt again, will it automatically recognize my Linux partition? Thanks for any tips! Specs: MacBook Pro 5,5 (Mid-2009); Snow Leopard 10.6.7/64-bit Sabayon Linux, 2.6.36 kernel EDIT/UPDATE: Thanks, but the situation has taken a more complicated turn: I tried to reinstall Snow Leopard from the DVD, but it refused to install onto my Mac partition, claiming: "The disk cannot be used to start up your computer." Disk Utility wouldn't let me resize the partition or create a new one, and it doesn't see my Linux partition. It only displays the two partitions "Macintosh HD" and Linux Swap. In any case, it doesn't seem safe to do any reformatting with Disk Utility now, as I'm afraid it will wipe sda2 ("Macintosh HD") as well as sda4 (my Linux partition). So... I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve wiping my entire hard disk. Would it be safe/possible to use Gparted to erase sda2 ("Macintosh HD") and then use the Snow Leopard DVD to install OS X onto [I]just[/I] sda2 without touching the other partitions?   • Mac Text Editor (with function list)

    So I've got a Mac in the post coming to me, and will probably be doing quite a bit of development on it so I am looking for a text editor (PHP + HTML mainly). I curently use Notepad++ on Windows and I simply cannot live without the function list plugin (It displays all functions in the current PHP file in a box on the right). Do any Mac text editors have this functionality? I am fairly sure that Notepad++ isn't available on an Apple. Thanks!

I tried Windows Movie Maker 2.6 but it only generated a 640x480 video. I also tried Windows Live Movie Maker but it put a big black margin around my pic (and unexplicably, produced a video with a slightly lower volume). Do you know any way to do what I need?

Update: I was not clear in my question: the prompt used to be just a single # and supports more syntax(a different shell script than bash 3.2 perhaps)?     We have a client who wishes to send files to us via SFTP (citing that FTP is inherently insecure). We have a Windows Environment (Windows 2003 Server). Currently, I'm reviewing copssh (OpenSSH for Windows, http://www.itefix.no/i2/copssh), and am looking for alternatives, or thoughts on copssh or any other SFTP option for Windows. The simpler to setup and administer, the better. I have never setup an SFTP host, before, so I'm curious what you all would recommend.

    Hi Guys, I have tried to install memcached in MAMP - Snow Leopard 10.6.2 using this tutorial: Setup a Memcached-Enabled MAMP Sandbox Environment I finished with no errors the first to the last step: Bonus Section: Start and Stop Memcache with MAMP After that I restarted my MAMP widget in the dashboard and checked by phpinfo but the memcached extension is not there. Do you guys successfully installed memcached in your MAMP or do you know any other way on how to make it work? Thanks in advance :)

  • long access times and errors in iis application

    I am having an issue with an IIS application (details of environment at the end of the message). The web site works great most of the time and I cannot reproduce any error in our test system. On the live system however with on averare of 5-15 requests per second I have a problem with that some requests (about 0.05%) will take over 300 seconds to complete. The other requests complete withing 5-10 seconds. It seem like if all the errornous requests end up with a Timer_EntityBody error in the error log. I have never seen this as an end user but I guess that they will receive some kind of error message. I am trying to find out what can be causing this errornous behaviour. Any ideas are welcome. I have read something about that there can be an MTU issue if ICMP and MTU protocols are blocked in the firewall. Does that sound reasonable? I have also read about updating to IIS 7 should do the trick. Does it sound reasonable? I think that the problem has another cause but I have no idea of what. I have tried running hte perormance monitor, monitoring for database locks and active transaction counts. I can see some of these in the perfmon log for the MSSQL server (another machine) for example: Active transactions is sometimes peaking and sometimes for long periods Lock waits per seconds is sometimes peaking Transactions per second is sometimes peaking Page IO Latch wait is sometimes peaking Lock wait time (ms) is sometimes peaking But I cannot see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log. On the IIS server machine I can also see with perfmon that some values peak a few times during a day: Request execution time Avg disk queue length I can neither see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log.   • How do I change Jenkins-ci systemInfo PATH variable

    I have Jenkins setup and it was working but then I updated java and now Jenkins acts like it doesn't know where it is. When I goto my Jenkins server and click manage jenkins-system information under the "Environment Variables" section the PATH variable is wrong. How can I change it? Jenkins is running as root but root's PATH is correct but Jenkins isn't pulling that correctly. Right now Jenkins can't find hg(mercurial) or anything else.
