• Node.js mongoose: how to use the .in and .sort methods of a query?

  Hi there, I'm trying to wrap my head around mongoose, but I'm having a hard time finding any kind of documentation for some of the more advanced query options, specifically the .in and .sort methods. What's the syntax for sorting, for example, a Person by age? db.model("Person").find().sort(???).all(function(people) { }); Then, let's say I want to find a Movie based on a genre, where a Movie can have many genres (in this case, an array of strings). Presumably, I'd use the .in function to accomplish that, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. Or perhaps I don't have to use the .in method at all...? Either way, I'm lost. db.model("Movie").find().in(???).all(function(movies) { }); Anyone have any ideas? Or even better, a link to some comprehensive documentation? Thanks! Chris

  Hi EveryOne Beginner in Flex ...Even worse with item renderers... Have managed to add a Combobox to a datagrid using a itemEditor... I want to change the options in a combo box depending on the value selected by the user on a previous combo.. In the combo box i want to display a certain value (Model Name ) but for quering a table i'll pass the corresponding code of the model :(... sounds simple enough ..unfortunately not able to implement it I have found this problem on this site but the solution seems an overkill for my "small" problem..was hoping if anyone could guide me towards a more simpler solution...   When creating a new Rails project using: rails sample Then creating a model using: script/generate model person first_name:string last_name:string Everything is fine. However, if I add any gems to my environment.rb: config.gem "authlogic" And run the same generator, I get the following: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:119:Warning: Gem::Dependency#version_requirements is deprecated and will be removed on or after August 2010. The warning just recently appeared (I think), but I would like to fix it if possible. Any hints or similar experiences? Thanks.

• Why aren't these shared_ptrs pointing to the same container?

  I have a class Model: class Model { ... boost::shared_ptr<Deck> _deck; boost::shared_ptr<CardStack> _stack[22]; }; Deck inherits from CardStack. I tried to make _stack[0] point to the same thing that _deck points to by going: { _deck = boost::shared_ptr<Deck>(new Deck()); _stack[0] = _deck; } It seems that the assignment to _deck of _stack[0] results in a copy of _deck being made. How can I get them to point to the same thing?

• ASP.NET GridView sorting on method data

  Hi, I'm binding a GridView to a domain model object, this domain model object has a method for working out a formatted value to display on the grid. I'd like to use this method for my display value, which is fine, but I'd also like to be able to sort on the value returned by that method. My sort expression can only take in a property/field at the moment. Help please! What do I need to do to get this to work? I'm using an SPGridView actually, but that doesn't make a lot of difference to my problem. Thanks.

  Hi guys, I'm using AdventureWorks 2008 R2 database and added the BusinessEntity and Person tables to my EDMX. Then I changed the model in which the Person table inherits from the BusinessEntity table. As you may know these two tables have ModifiedDate and rowguid columns so the Person class should not have these properties because it inherits them from the BusinessEntity class. My question is, how can I modify the model to support inheritance and optimistic concurrency on both Person and BusinessEntity classes/tables on ModifiedDate property/column. PS. It also get me an error message that I have asked here. Thanks

• Grails pattern to reuse template on error

  Hello, I have a gsp template, where the data for create view is passed through the controller. def create = { def bookInstance = new Book() bookInstance .properties = params def map = getDefaultValues() render(template: "create", model: [bookInstance : bookInstance , title: map.title, somelist: somelist ....]) the gsp template <g:select optionKey="id" from="${somelist}" name="somelist.id" value="${bookInstance ?.somelist?.id}" noSelection="['null': '']"></g:select> now, in the save method, if there is an error, it returns currently populated and validated instance (default scaffold implementation) render(template: "create", model: [bookInstance : bookInstance ]) But the fields in the gsp (error page rendered from save action) is empty. I could see the reason as it looks the value in "${somelist}" , but it is not used in save method. Do i just need to check for null in the gsp and use whichever map is available, or any better method (passing all the map in the save method is not an option) .. thanks in advance..

The calculation definately belongs in the view. How do you solve this problem?

  I'm new to MVC (i'm using codeigniter) and was wondering where I should put a "cut_description" function. My model retrieves a list of events including their description. If the description is too long, I would need to cut it after the first n words, and add a "read more" link, so the view doesn't get too cluttered. What would be the best practice? a) add the logic to cut after n words to the model; b) add the logic to the controller; c) add it to the view? I think C would be the easier (I have to loop through results anyway), but I'm not sure this would comply with MVC. What do you think?

  If I were to extricate my current membership provider from my solution, i.e. as a dll and expose it as a web service with it's own db, how would I model the relationships with regards to SOA design. For example I have a table: USER id, name, lastname, username, password, role. and table PRODUCT id, name, price, createdate, userid the foreign key being userid to table user. How would I model the relationship and/or query the db. If I wanted to get all products that were uploaded today for example, before I would query: SELECT u.name, u.lastname, u.username, p.* FROM PRODUCT p INNER JOIN USER u ON p.userid = u.id WHERE createdate = '05/05/2010' Now that I don't have the table within the database how would I perform this query?   I have three models: User Award Trophy The associations are: User has many awards Trophy has many awards Award belongs to user Award belongs to trophy User has many trophies through awards Therefore, user_id is a fk in awards, and trophy_id is a fk in awards. In the Trophy model, which is an STI model, there's a trophy_type column. I want to return a list of users who have been awarded a specific trophy -- (trophy_type = 'GoldTrophy'). Users can be awarded the same trophy more than once. (I don't want distinct results.) Can I use a named_scope? How about chaining them? Or do I need to use find_by_sql? Either way, how would I code it?

  I'm following this article http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/older-versions/models-(data)/validating-with-a-service-layer-cs to include a Service Layer with Business Logic in my MVC Web Application. I'm able to pass messages from the Service Layer to the View Model in a Html.ValidationSummary using ModelState Class. I perform basic validation logic on the View Model (using DataAnnotation attributes) and I have ClientValidation enabled by default which displaying the error message on every single field of my form. The Business logic error message which come from the Service Layer are being displayed on Html.ValidationSummary only after Posting the form to the Server. After Validation from the Service Layer I would like highlight one or more fields and have the message from the Service Layer showing on these fields instead that the Html.ValidationSummary. Any idea how to do it? Thanks

  I am trying to get the OAuth gem to work with Rails 3 and I'm running into this weird problem... (independent of the gem, I think I've run into this once before) I have a controller called "OauthTestController", and a model called "ConsumerToken". The model looks like this. require 'oauth/models/consumers/token' class ConsumerToken < ActiveRecord::Base include Oauth::Models::Consumers::Token end When I go to "/oauth_test/twitter", it loads the Oauth::Models::Consumers::Token module and I'm able to connect to twitter no problem. But the second time I try it (just refresh the /oauth_test/twitter url), it gives me this error: NameError (uninitialized constant Oauth): app/models/consumer_token.rb:4 app/models/twitter_token.rb:2 app/controllers/oauth_test_controller.rb:66:in `load_consumer' Why is that? It has something to do with load paths or being in development mode maybe?

• Linux Twinview : copy window application to both screens

  I use the SUN Presenter Openoffice Extension with a twinview Ubuntu laptop. it works well : I have the video-projector with my presentation and my laptop screen with the slides (and time...). My problem is when I want to present a mono-screen application, like Firefox, gnome-terminal. It is displayed only on one monitor, which is not really efficient if you want to be interactive. Is there a way to display these types of application on both display and to interact with both ? Thanks

  I've created a model in Xcode, and for various attributes I have minimum & maximum values defined and that are enforced by coreData at runtime. I'm using NSManagedObject validateValue:forKey:error to check for user input values. I was a bit disappointed to see that the localized error message is not specific, and I get a "The operation couldn't be completed. (Cocoa error 1620)" for too small values and a "The operation couldn't be completed. (Cocoa error 1610)" for too large values. It's written in the coreData documentation that "you can localize most aspects of a managed object model, including entity and property names and error messages". Unfortunately it's not very detailed on how you implement it for error messages. So How do you customize error message ? How do you localize them ? Is it possible to customize it in a way where it will mentioned the reference value ex: "Value should be lower than %@" or "Value should be higher than %@" ?

• Help need to with MySQL query to join data spanning multiple tables and use data as column names

  I need a little help putting together a SQL query that will give me the following resultsets: and The data model looks like this: The tricky part for me is that the columns to the right of the "Product" in the resultset aren't really columns in the database but rather key/value pairs spanned across the data model. Table data is as follows: My apologies in advance for the image heavy question and the image quality. This just seemed like the easiest way to convey the information. It'll probably take someone less time to write the query statement to achieve the results than it did for me to assemble this question. By the way, the "product_option" table image is truncated but it illustrated the general idea of the data structure. The MySQL server version is 5.1.45.

• How come module-level validators are evaluated only after property-level validators?

  I'm using the module-level validator: 'PropertiesMustMatch' on my view-model, like so: [PropertiesMustMatch("Password", "PasswordConfirm")] public class HomeIndex { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } public string Password { get; set; } public string PasswordConfirm { get; set; } } I'm noticing that if I submit the form without Name filled in, the ValidationSummary() helper returns only the following error: The Name field is required. However, if I fill in Name, then ValidationSummary() will return a PropertiesMustMatch error: 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. So it looks like the property-level validators are being evaluated first, then the model-level validators. I would much prefer if they were all validated at once, and ValidationSummary would return: The Name field is required. 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I'm studying the MVC 2 source-code to try to determine why this happens.

• Ruby Rack: startup and teardown operations (Tokyo Cabinet connection)

  I have built a pretty simple REST service in Sinatra, on Rack. It's backed by 3 Tokyo Cabinet/Table datastores, which have connections that need to be opened and closed. I have two model classes written in straight Ruby that currently simply connect, get or put what they need, and then disconnect. Obviously, this isn't going to work long-term. I also have some Rack middleware like Warden that rely on these model classes. What's the best way to manage opening and closing the connections? Rack doesn't provide startup/shutdown hooks as I'm aware. I thought about inserting a piece of middleware that provides reference to the TC/TT object in env, but then I'd have to pipe that through Sinatra to the models, which doesn't seem efficient either; and that would only get be a per-request connection to TC. I'd imagine that per-server-instance-lifecycle would be a more appropriate lifespan. Thanks!

• group inlines in django admin

  Hi I have a two models, Model1 and Model2. Model2 has a FK to Model1 and FK to iteself. In the admin I show Model2 as inlines in Model1 change_form. I want to modify the way the inlines are shown in the admin. I need to group all the instances that have the same parent_model2 and display them as a readonly field with a string of 'childs' in the parent Model2 instance. I know how to use itertools.groupby (or the django version) but don't know how to do it in the admin.
