  • Microsoft releases Bing iPhone app

    As its officials have been hinting and promising for a while now, Microsoft announced it has developed a version of its Bing search app for the iPhone. The new Bing app is available on the iPhone app store as of tonight (December 15). Microsoft already offers Bing on a number of mobile phones, and has a five-year deal with Verizon to provide Bing on a number of phones available to Verizon Wireless customers. A mobile version of Bing already is available for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, BREW and Sidekick devices on Verizon. In other Bing news, Microsoft has finally hit the 10 percent market share mark with Bing, according to the November U.S. search share data from comScore.   • Multi database link and mix and match email alert

    I have a site which is a large database of people that have different knowledge in different domains, such as teaching (maths, french, science etc...) On the site there is a page where you can search people base on different request, such as distance from home, grade, sex. Now, I would like to add a page where people that are looking for mentor will fill a request, and when a tutor in his area of search will match request, a email will be send to this researcher. Because I know for sure, that when in January you look for a math teacher for your 10 year old son, and you find none, you won't go again in February, March... and on and on just to see. Maybe there is one now, you want to be informed when the tutor will get into database automatically (more or less like www.jobboom.com) So the question is, what CMS do I need to be able to do that ? Wordpress, drupal or something custom made?

  • Wordpress Installation (on IIS and SQL Server)

    To proceed with the installation of Wordpress on SQL Server and IIS, first of all, you need to do the following steps Create a database on SQL Server that will be used by Wordpress Create login that can access to the just created database and put the user into ddladmin, db_datareader, db_datawriter roles Download and unpack Wordpress 3.3.2 (latest version as of 27 May 2012) zip file into a directory of your choice Download the wp-db-abstraction 1.1.4 (latest version as of 27 May 2012) plugin from wordpress.org website Now that the basic action has been done, you can start to setup and configure your Wordpress installation. Unpack and follow the instructions in the README.TXT file to install the Database Abstraction Layer. Mainly you have to: Upload wp-db-abstraction.php and the wp-db-abstraction directory to wp-content/mu-plugins.  This should be parallel to your regular plugins directory.  If the mu-plugins directory does not exist, you must create it. Put the db.php file from inside the wp-db-abstraction.php directory to wp-content/db.php Now you can create an application pool in IIS like the following one Create a website, using the above Application Pool, that points to the folder where you unpacked Wordpress files. Be sure to give the “Write” permission to the IIS account, as pointed out in this (old, but still quite valid) installation manual: http://wordpress.visitmix.com/development/installing-wordpress-on-sql-server#iis Now you’re ready to go. Point your browser to the configured website and the Wordpress installation screen will be there for you. When you’re requested to enter information to connect to MySQL database, simply skip that page, leaving the default values. If you have installed the Database Abstraction Layer, another database installation screen will appear after the one used by MySQL, and here you can enter the configuration information needed to connect to SQL Server. After having finished the installation steps, you should be able to access and navigate your wordpress site.  A final touch, and it’s done: just add the needed rewrite rules http://wordpress.visitmix.com/development/installing-wordpress-on-sql-server#urlrewrite and that’s it! Well. Not really. Unfortunately the current (as of 27 May 2012) version of the Database Abstraction Layer (1.1.4) has some bugs.   • Where can I find an exhaustive list of meta tags and what they do?

    It seems to me that there are a ton of <meta> tags for all sorts of different purposes out there... Though they all follow a similar format of <meta name="" content="" /> they seem to serve a vast variety of different purposes from controlling the crawling of search engine bots, providing search engine bots with descriptions of pages, to making sure a page display correctly on a mobile device. These tags fall into so many different categories I was wondering if anyone had a wiki or master list of possible meta tags and their content.

  • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon.   • Country specific SEO

    I have a wordpress site which is located at a .com address. The site is a simple 4 page personal site with my academic credentials, publications and a health blog that I started. I have done quite a bit of seo and I rank pretty high for the keywords i want on google.co.uk. However, I do not rank at all on google.com.mt which is the Malta specific search. I have therefore just bought the .com.mt domain and pointed the DNS nameservers to my current host provider and redirected it to the .com address. My goal is to make sure I don't screw up my google.co.uk search ranking, while starting to rank on google.com.mt I'm I doing the right thing or do you have any suggestions??

  • Adding a Role to a Responsibility for Use with the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java JAAS Implementation

    This new post on the series of ADF integration with Oracle E-Business Suite, was written by Sara Woodhull, Principal Product Manager on the Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Technology team. Based on a previous post of the series, a reader asked what to do if you have an existing responsibility assigned to lots of users, instead of the UMX role that the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java JAAS Implementation requires.  It would be tedious to assign a new role directly to hundreds or thousands of users, so naturally we’d like to avoid that if possible. Most people don’t know this, but it’s possible to assign a UMX role to a responsibility in Oracle User Management. Once you do that, users with your responsibility will all inherit your UMX role automatically. You can then proceed with using your UMX role with JAAS for ADF. Here is how to assign a UMX role to a responsibility in Oracle E-Business Suite: In the User Management responsibility, go to the Roles & Role Inheritance page. Search for the responsibility you want. In the search results table, click the “View In Hierarchy” icon for your responsibility. Note that the codes for responsibilities start with FND_RESP, while the codes for roles start with UMX. In the Role Inheritance Hierarchy, click on the Add Node icon (green plus + ) for your responsibility. Now you will see what appears to be the same page again but it is a little different (note the text at the top telling you the role you select will be inherited…).  This time, either search or expand nodes until you find your custom UMX role.  Use the Quick Select to choose that role. You will be sent back to the first screen, where you should see a confirmation message at the top. On the same page you can verify that the custom UMX role is underneath the responsibility.  You may need to expand one or more nodes to see the UMX role under the responsibility. You might see some other roles that have been inherited as well. Now that your users have the UMX role, you can test that the UMX role is being passed through to your ADF application through the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java JAAS feature. Happy coding!

  • How to correct Google Earth's "invalid HTTP request" notice?

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04. As you might know Google Earth 7 doesn't work in Ubuntu 12.04 yet. I installed Google Earth via make-googleearth-package --force command. My installation was saccesful. At the beginning everything was working fine. But after some days I had a problem. When I type in "Fly to" box a city I wanted to search for it. It gives me "invalid HTTP request" error as seen in the picture: How to solve? P.S: I removed and reinstalled it but problem still consists. I can search globe via mouse only.

  • Automatically select headphones when plugged in

    When I plug headphones into my desktop computer, they are not automatically selected for output, instead all sound still goes through my S/PDIF output to the stereo. The headphones alternative is added in the sound settings, and I have to manually select it as output device. $ cat /proc/asound/pcm 00-00: ALC898 Analog : ALC898 Analog : playback 1 : capture 1 00-01: ALC898 Digital : ALC898 Digital : playback 1 00-02: ALC898 Analog : ALC898 Analog : capture 2 I have done a Google search, as well as search askubuntu.com, but none of the answers in the hits I found seems to help. Also, after listening with the headphones and then unplug them, the previous output is not automatically selected, so I have no sound at all then. I have to manually select the correct output in the settings.

  • Should I post my PDF library for SEO? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Do search engines crawl PDFs and if so are there any rules to follow when making them When a Sales call comes in, the caller often says something like: 'I searched for 3 days before finding your product and it's exactly what I need!' That's telling me that I need some SEO work. We redid our website and streamlined it which removed many of our 'How-To' documents. Since those PDF documents contain words that people might search for, I was wondering if I could add a 'Complete library' link to the bottom of a page that will load up the entire PDF library. The question is where do I find the incomnig links? One way I know is Google Blog Search, it can be used to find blogs with related information to your content and some allow to leave comments. The comments usually consist of your name, e-mail and website. If you put your keyword instead of your name, then the keyword turns into a link to your website. Unfortunately most blogs put rel=nofollow on such links, but some blogs don't do that. What other ways are there to find quality pages to put keywords links back to your website? Quality link usually means: located on a page with relevant content does not have a rel=nofollow in the <a has a relevant keyword as in <a href=websitekeyword</a the page with the link has high PageRank (3+) and TrustRank

  • "/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_python-mt" error when installing pycuda 2011.2.2

    I am installing pycuda2011.2.2 on ubuntu 11.10, but can't complete it. When i do pycuda-2011.2.2 $ make -j 4 I get this error: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_python-mt , /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lcuda I got 1 exact problem match in google search and solution as well : $ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libboost_python-mt-py26 /usr/lib/libboost_python-mt But booooom, My problem doesn't vanish. It makes me wonder that why there are no relavant results in google search, as if only I have this problem. What is wrong ? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

    We build a webapp that allows users to run the app under their own subdomain. So we run the app under search.domainX.com, search.domainY.com and so on. They each have their own Google Analytics to track individual stats. But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views." What is the best way tool to track that sort of thing. We prefer a snippet based solution similar to Google Analytics if possible.

    I'm assuming we're talking about desktop games -- something the player downloads and runs on their local computer. Many are the memory editors that allow you to detect and freeze values, like your player's health. How do you prevent cheating via memory-modifiation? What strategies are effective to combat this kind of cheating? For reference, I know that players can: - Search for something by value or range - Search for something that changed value - Set memory values - Freeze memory values I'm looking for some good ones. Two I use that are mediocre are: Displaying values as a percentage instead of the number (eg. 46/50 = 92% health) A low-level class that holds values in an array and moves them with each change. (For example, instead of an int, I have a class that's an array of ints, and whenever the value changes, I use a different, randomly-chosen array item to hold the value)

  • Best S.E.O. practice for backlinking etc

    I'm currently working on a website that I am really looking to optimise in terms of search engines, i've been submitting between 5-20 directory submissions daily, i've validated and optimised my code and i've joined a lot of forums etc to speak of the website in question, however, I don't seem to be making much of an impact in terms of Google. I know that S.E.O. takes a while to start making an impact, and that Google prefers sites that a regularly updated and aged, but are there any more practices that can really help with organic results in Search engines. I have looked on Google itself, and a few other SE's but nobody is willing to talk about extensive S.E.O. practices as they normally don't want people knowing their formula's for S.E.O., also does anyone know of a decent piece of software that really looks into the in's and out's of your page and provides feedback, I usually use http://www.woorank.com, but only using one program doesn't show if it's exactly correct in what it's saying. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated, thank you very much.

  • Is there any negative impact with similar page titles and descriptions on similar sites?

    Currently we have Canadian versions of some websites. We are going to create some American versions, which essentially have everything the same, except the search results are geo-specific to the USA. The format for the results page title and descriptions will remain the same, ie {0} in {1} | Find more {0} etc etc etc... {1}. The search term will most-likely be the same between both sites. Will the relative similarity in the page titles and descriptions between the CDN and USA sites have any negative SEO impact, where the geo location would be the most significant difference?

  • Wordpress Installation (on IIS and SQL Server)

    To proceed with the installation of Wordpress on SQL Server and IIS, first of all, you need to do the following steps Create a database on SQL Server that will be used by Wordpress Create login that can access to the just created database and put the user into ddladmin, db_datareader, db_datawriter roles Download and unpack Wordpress 3.3.2 (latest version as of 27 May 2012) zip file into a directory of your choice Download the wp-db-abstraction 1.1.4 (latest version as of 27 May 2012) plugin from wordpress.org website Now that the basic action has been done, you can start to setup and configure your Wordpress installation. Unpack and follow the instructions in the README.TXT file to install the Database Abstraction Layer. Mainly you have to: Upload wp-db-abstraction.php and the wp-db-abstraction directory to wp-content/mu-plugins.  This should be parallel to your regular plugins directory.  If the mu-plugins directory does not exist, you must create it. Put the db.php file from inside the wp-db-abstraction.php directory to wp-content/db.php Now you can create an application pool in IIS like the following one Create a website, using the above Application Pool, that points to the folder where you unpacked Wordpress files. Be sure to give the “Write” permission to the IIS account, as pointed out in this (old, but still quite valid) installation manual: http://wordpress.visitmix.com/development/installing-wordpress-on-sql-server#iis Now you’re ready to go. Point your browser to the configured website and the Wordpress installation screen will be there for you. When you’re requested to enter information to connect to MySQL database, simply skip that page, leaving the default values. I have already covered the Last 100 Messages Received, the Last 100 Messages Sent, and the Last 50 Suspended Messages queries so what about service instances? The BizTalk 2009 Group Hub allows you to search for suspended service instances and also running service instances, but not the two together. In BizTalk 2004 we had a query in HAT to return the last 100 service instances.  Lets create a direct replacement in the BizTalk 2009 Hatless environment. This technique intends to show you how to get your WordPress wielding the power of the future web, that being HTML 5. --- Ingredients WordPress 3.x Your favourite HTML 5 compliant browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 9) Directions Setup WordPress on your server or host. Note: You can setup a WordPress.com account, but you will require an paid add-on to really take advantage of this technique.Login to the administration panel. Login to the administration section of your blog, using your web browser.  On the left side of the page, click the Appearance heading. Then, click on Themes. At the top of the page, select the Install Themes tab. In the search box, type the “toolbox” and click search. In the search results, you should see an theme called Toolbox. Click the Install link in the Toolbox item. A dialog window should appear with a sample picture of what the theme looks like. Click on the Install Now button in the bottom right corner. Et voila!
