  • Visual Studio Default Open File Action

    I am using Visual Studio 2008 with C#. Is there a way to set the default editor for a class file containing a DataTable derived class? Whenever I double click on one of these classes to open the file VS attempts to open a component designer. Since my class isn't compatible with that editor this is a rather useless default. I would like these files to open up in the normal code editor.

    What's the best way to automate this function? I want to be able to do this in Outlook 2010, (1)select a specific mail account (2)Key in a folder that I am looking for (3)Then have the macro/program fire off an "*" asterisk (4)Then insert the text that I keyed in step one. I am trying to automate the search for a folder hot-keys that already exist. My problem is that I can't type the folder that I am looking for fast enough and all the search programs that I have used are far too slow. The hot-key search is awesome and super fast, I just can't type the folder that I am looking for fast enough. Can this process be automated?   • MSSQL using SSH-tunnel from Visual Studio

    Hi, I recently contacted a web host regarding support for external database access to a Microsoft SQL Database included in a package they offer. They replied saying that it is only possible with an SSH-tunnel. Is it possible to connect to a MS SQL database in Visual Studio using an SSH-tunnel? It is important for me to be able to access the database from my local machine (for debugging, generating LINQ classes, editing tables, etc). Or, how should I go about working with their database?

  • visual studio crashes when i view a javascript file

    i start up an existing solution, click on a javascript file, the file opens up in the IDE for a few seconds and then visual studio disappears. This is consistent and reproducible. I saw this patch for KB958502 and installed it but it didn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions on how i can proceed as this is completely stopping my development here.

    I'm working on a project for school, we use visual studio 2008 there and I use it at home, both are express edition. The project in question I started at school, but I cannot edit it at home, when I open the .sln I get this "The IntelliSense information will not be available for .VC++ projects because the Intellisense database file Location/Junk.ncb could not be opened for writing. Other features will also be affected if the solution directory is read-only." How do I open my project so that I can edit it?

I recently spent some time trying to convert a Website Project to Web Application Project and was surprised at how tedious it was. So I am wondering what everyone is planning to do in VS 2010? Also, feel free to mention what you use now. Maybe I am the only sucker that converted to using Website Projects in 2.0... *Excluding MVC since it is the only option there

  • C++ serial port send command

    Hi there, I have a hardware here, wich communicates over serial port. I use MS Visual C++ 2010, and I want to send a command: <-S-> I am doing this: SerialPort^ serialPort = gcnew SerialPort(portName , 9600, Parity::None, 8, StopBits::One); serialPort->Open(); serialPort->WriteLine("<-S->"); serialPort->Close(); But the command that goes out is <-S->., and not <-S-> (please notice the point that is attached to the outgoing command). I use Free Serial Port Monitor to watch my ingoing/outcoming data. So how can I get rid of that point in <-S->. ? This is what is going out: 3C 2D 53 2D 3E 0A = <-S-. This is what I want: 3C 2D 53 2D 3E = <-S- Thanks for help.

  • Using content from the project in tests

    I am working with Visual Studio 2010 and it's integrated testing functionality. I have an XML file in my project which is set to copy to the output directory. I can access the file just fine when I compile and run the project. But it doesn't exist when I attempt to access it within a TestMethod. It looks like the test is run with the working directory set to an "Out" directory created within the TestResults directory. I can set a breakpoint before I use the file. If I then copy the file into this "Out" directory and continue running the test it accesses the file properly. But that is not really how I want my automated tests to function. Is it possible to tell VS to copy the build directory into this working directory?

  • How can I move app.config to a different folder inside the Solution Explorer?

    I'm using Visual Studio 2010. In my Solution Explorer I like to sort my Project items into folders (a folder for Forms, a folder for Classes, a Misc folder, etc.) It seems though that if I move the "app.config" file to a folder named "Config Files" everything works until I change a setting in the Settings.settings file. Once I do that, a new app.config is created and the one that was in the "Config Files" folder did not get updated. I have searched the entire solution for the text "app.config" and did not find any results. How can I move this file so that my Solution Explorer looks nice and clean?

    I've got a custom colour set in Visual Studio and one of the colours when debugging is making things a bit of a misery. Unfortunately I can't figure out which one it is, and when going through and changing all the light background ones, it still remains. Can anyone point me in the right direction?   • Why are some C#4 features allowed even when targeting 3.5?

    We upgraded to VS 2010, but we haven't yet upgraded to .NET 4.0. All of our projects are still explicitly targeting 3.5. Today, a developer checked in code that looked like this: delegate T Generator<out T>(); As far as I know, "in T" and "out T" are C# 4.0 features. According to our build server, which doesn't have .NET 4.0 installed on it, I'm right. The check-in broke the build. But, why the heck does it build on his machine? Why is VS just ignoring the target framework for the project? Other C# 4.0 features, like the dynamic keyword, do not build on the developer's machine.
