  • Handle php out of memory error

    I have a Drupal based web site on a relative small vserver (512MB RAM). Recently the website begins to return php out of memory messages like this: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 17039360) (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /home/... All php.ini memory limit parameters are set to off (-1). Propably the website has gained of complexity, content, etc. But I cannot interpret fine that message: Does that mean that the whole request has allocated 17MB(?) right now and cannot get 7MB(?) more from the OS. Has the web server spend all memory or has the OS no more memory to allocate ? I'm not shure if the memory overhead is coming from the web server or another service, because when I get the out-of-memoy message I can't get into the server with ssh. After a while all runs fine again.

    I want to create a "Human powered document processing" website in a formed as a gaming mechanic that will prompt volunteers to weed out text missed by OCR (optical character reader) The challenge is that the OCR output often contains errors and omissions, which hampers searches. Manual corrections is needed to weed out these mistakes, so that the text become machine readable.. I want to accomplish these task by splitting dull repetitive task into tiny microtasks and distributing then to register contributors on my site. I want to digitalized pedigree books into an online database. I want to recreate recaptcha and http://www.digitalkoot.fi/en/splash all roll into one.. Help!!!! What programing languages is best needed to create a recapctch type website and is there any open source project similar to this I can use? I need a some directions to begin this project, so all and any help will be great.

  • Difference in stats on the same domain - seo related

    Recently i started to optimize my company's website. With a little help of market samurai. One of the adjustments was a www redirect to the prefered domain. We currently rank on #8 for our desired keyword with the domain without the www. If I add a custom url (our domain with www), we see a difference in stats BLP (backlinks to the page) {it's the website on top} Can anyone tell me how i could merge this so we might even rank better for our keyword? What I did so far: 3 weeks ago set the www.duo.be as prefered domain in GWT and put a 301 redirect in place so the duo.be gets redirected to www.duo.be Both domains are in GWT and both with www.duo.be as preferred domain.     For a website, you need to have an idea, you need to have a design and you need to have data, events and output, right? Whether it be a blog, web app, Q&A site, search engine... Anyway, that is only slightly related to my question. My question is, when designing a website, providing I know the purpose, what should I start with? Should I start with the CSS, design and look&feel using dummy data first, or should I program in the logic, events and output, and style it later? What is the design process of most websites that are built from the ground up?

Website Name which show an image from logo class, like this: <div id="header"> <h1 class="logo"> <a href="#">Website Name</a> </h1> </div> and I also include <h1> on the contact page, help, etc and article page for example: <h1>Contact Us</h1> <h1>Name of the Article Title here</h1> On the homepage, it just has one <h1> for the logo Site Name... other pages have 2 <h1> tags

    I'm currently developing a WinForm application. In order to inform the client about the improvements and corrections made during the last version, I would like to manage and display a changelog. I mostly found existing changelog on website (the term changelog is pretty used) or explanation on how to manage the release numbers, which I don't care. So, these are my questions: Is there a good practice in changelog management (using XML, pure text in the app, etc.) in a desktop application ?     When Google looks at anchor text on a website, will it pickup the text if it is inside nested elements? So for example: <a href="http://www.google.com/">Visit Google</a> To: <a href="http://www.google.com/"> <div class="circle"> <span>Visit Google</span> </div> </a> The reason I ask is because I want to use css3 elements for certain links on my website, to style them as circles. But the anchor text needs to be picked up for these links, so I want to know wether or not the above is bad practice in this case.

  • 2 Google Tag Manager containers = double triggers?

    I have a Joomla website with existing analytics done by a GTM tag and I need to add another image tag (1x1 pixel) from a separate GTM container. I set the event name for the additional GTM container to a different name from from the existing GTM container (default 'gtm.js') so that the new tag only fires under the specified event. The new container tested out fine in a blank HTML page, but when it is put in the website, it ends up firing twice. I know that because Firebug showed 2 1x1 pixels being loaded and I mark each request with a randomly-generated UID to distinguish them on the server side. I suspect this being caused by having multiple GTM container tags but want to check whether anyone has run into this problem before? As of now, I could not verify nor fix the double counting problem.

  • Cannot access my own web page

    I am developing, learning and experimenting with php,html,javascript,flash and so on. Having web hosting and all of the cpanel, phpmyadmin and other utilities. One day, while updating information, connection between my computer and website just went down. I found out that it is only from this computer, where I cannot access anything. I don't know what is the reason I cannot access website, however this is what I have checked so far: Everything else opens normally, having problem only with my page. Cannot access FTP,cpanel or any kind of information related to the domain and hosting ipconfigs detects IP, but shows request timed out (so its not browser related) Turned off Firewall,AV, Rebooted computer Cleared caches,temp,cookies,histry with CCleaner Checked connectivity with both (wired,wireless) networks ISP has dynamic IP that has been changed about 3 times since issue Checked host file I am out of ideas and understanding what could cause this kind of issue, however couple minutes ago, found out that everything works with proxy server (when adding IP and port to the browsers) Can someone point out what should I check or try to get rid of this problem?

    I have an large html website on a very old server and I'm attempting to move it to a brand new server running IIS7. I've tried moving the entire site to the WWW directory, but then all my forms return "The HTTP verb POST used to access path is not allowed". Additionally, all the solutions I've found online only work on a page by page basis. Is there a simpler/faster way to migrate a large website containing many forms to IIS7? Here is the specific error message: The HTTP verb POST used to access path '/FormServer/Mig/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/admissions/askseaaggie.htm' is not allowed.

    I have two domains associated with the same hosting account. Domain A was the one I had purchased when I first set up my website, but I didn't like it all that much and it was getting low ranks, and so I bought domain B and 301'd links from domain A to domain B. Now I would like to know if there is any way I can filter page views on Google Analytics based on the domain used to access the website, so that I can know if it is worth to keep the old domain associated with the account. Is there any easy way I can do this?

In one case, the URL format was thissite.com/category-name/pageid-123-page-name.html Another was thatsite.com/category-name/pageid-123-page-name.php Now I know the text in URLs help with SEO. Is it more helpful to have a file extension? If yes, which one is better? Or if my current plan is okay, will it be better with a / at the end?

  • Trying to retrace our SEO domain redirect strategy

    An SEO built a copy of my company's e-commerce site on another domain that contained our product's keywords in the name (i.e. as if Levi's built a duplicate site on bluejeans.com)...and then they referenced a lot of the images on the actual website from the other domain (as if Levis.com had images on it referenced like: img src="http://www.bluejeans.com/jeans-front.jpg"), but when you tried to reach the site by typing the name into the browser you would be redirected to the regular website, so the site wasn't really used for any purpose except I guess SEO. Since I didn't think this was doing anything GOOD for us at the time, I deleted the duplicate site and let the hosting on it expire, only to watch our search engine position rankings fall dramatically. Any ideas as to what was going on there? I want to get it back to understand its impact, but I don't know how it was set up. I contacted our host and they have no idea how it was set up. I suspect there was some sort of redirect in play, or something?

Typically if its a small site that I either don't have a budget for or want to keep it as inexpensive as possible I use Google Website Optimizer if I do have a budget I go with Visual Website Optimizer both are great and affordable, but for fun I was checking out alternatives and found Genetify which is an open source project and has some neat features. In searching around I don't see many people talking about it and wondered if anyone here has used it. If so what do you think about it?

    I hire an Ubuntu server which I access remotely and I purchased a domain for my webpage. I am totally new to this server thing and to Ubuntu as well. What applications should I install on the server? I need to transfer files to the server, I guess I would use FileZilla the same way I use it to upload files to my free website. But to have a username and password should I install an ftp server and create a user on Ubuntu? My website will send automated messages to users, so do I need to install a mail server as well? What other software should I install on the server apart from a firewall and an anti-virus? Should I partition the hard drive (3TB) and how? How partitions should I create and in what size for what applications? Btw I use Windows 7 on my computer, so I am basically a windows user.

    What is a good approach to an anti-spam algorithm for a website similar to reddit? Their anti-spam algorithm seems awfully broken (banning on words in the title and doing a horrible job for that matter). Considering a post spam because it has the word 'spam' in the title is really not a wise choice. Anyway, how can one approach such problem ? Are there any tools that help in such cases? Also, what are the /technical/ reasons behind reddit's choice not using reCAPTCHA on every post submission? It seems like a much better solution than what they have right now. Since reddit is basically a community-driven website why not give such power to the communities' trusted members?

  • SEO and search result changes when switching to SSL on Joomla site?

    I am thinking about purchasing an SSL certificate for a website. The most noticeable difference for the user would be the http now becomes https and there is that lock icon in most browsers. Will there be any adverse affects on the website's current SEO or recognition by search engines when I make the switch? Also this is a Joomla site, which has an option in the settings to use SSL. It is supposed to make it easier but not sure if it takes care of everything. Thanks!
