• Ideas for storing e-mail messages in a Delphi client server application

  There are many suggestions here and there for storing e-mail messages. Somehow what I am doing is writing an Outlook addin to send emails from inbox/sent folders directly to my application. So only what is really interesting is saved. And I decide where to save it. Imagine this case: I recieve an email from a customer. It's up to me to decide whether I should save it on the customer or on the order 24 that that customer did. So this is why I am doing the add in, and not some automatic storing of emails = noise after some time. This said, how to store the emails? For the emails that I recieve or send through Outlook the idea could be save the whole file in a blob field (so the eml file), may be I can save also other info (like the subject) in another text field. But the problem comes when I write an email from my application. In this case I am not generating an eml file, I send through MAPI data to Outlook to compose an email that I will send with Outlook (so in this case I cannot save the eml), or I directly send it with Indy. Also in this case I don't have the eml file... One idea could be that the all the emails that I auto compose have a special flag that the Add in recognises and therefore when I send the mail it is stored back to the DB. So in this case I can save the eml also of the mails I sent from my application. May you comment?

• NSFetchedResultsController on secondary UITableView - how to query data?

  I am creating a core-data based Navigation iPhone app with multiple screens. Let's say it is a flash-card application. The data model is very simple, with only two entities: Language, and CardSet. There is a one-to-many relationship between the Language entity and the CardSet entities, so each Language may contain multiple CardSets. In other words, Language has a one-to-many relationship Language.cardSets which points to the list of CardSets, and CardSet has a relationship CardSet.language which points to the Language. There are two screens: (1) An initial TableView screen, which displays the list of languages; and (2) a secondary TableView screen, which displays the list of CardSets in the Language. In the initial screen, which lists the languages, I am using NSFetchedResultsController to keep the list of languages up-to-date. The screen passes the Language selected to the secondary screen. On the secondary screen, I am trying to figure out whether I should again use an NSFetchedResultsController to maintain the list of CardSets, or if I should work through Language.cardSets to simply pull the list out of the object model. The latter makes the most sense programatically because I already have the Language - but then it would not automatically be updated on changes. I have looked at the NSFetchedResultsController documentation, and it seems like I can easily create predicates based on attributes - but not relationships. I.e., I can create the following NSFetchedResultsController: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name LIKE[c] 'Chuck Norris'"]; How can I access my data through the direct relationship - Language.cardSets - and also have the table auto-update using NSFetchedResultsController? Is this possible?

• Supersede users need to press enter after inputting a string in python 3.0

  I've been attempting to create a simple Rock, Paper, Scissors game in python 3.0 -- very standard task for anybody learning programming. But, as I finish up to a point, I think,"wow, that'd be awesome", or,"it'd be cool to do this!" So anyways, I keep building upon the project... I've developed a menu, a single player game vs the computer, and just finished the multiplayer game. But, I've realized, that the multiplayer game isn't very effective. It just dosen't work like the analog version of the game. Currently, it'll ask for player1's input, then player2's input, compare them, and spit out the result and the current score. What I'd rather have happen is that the program asks for both players input at the same time and both players input their choice at the same time. I understand that I can easily do that by just grabbing the index of the first and second answer and compare the 2 inputs -- easy. But what I'd rather have happen is that after both players enter their one character answers at the same time (r for rock, p for paper, or s for scissors), then the program will auto enter the input. Not needing someone to press enter. The input would be dictated by the fact that 2 characters have been entered. I guess my question is: Is there any way to dictate what can be used as an input for 'enter'?

• Appending Comment Number Anchors to Comments

  Hello, I am using a PHP file called comments.php that has a query that enters values into a mySQL table called "comment." As the query does this, it auto-generates a field called "commentid", which is set to auto_increment in MySQL. The file also contains a loop what echoes out all comments for a given submission. It all works fine and dandy, but I want to simultaneously pull this "commentid" and turn it into a hashtag / anchor that when appended to the end of the URL makes that comment at the top of the user's browser. Someone said on another question that in order to do this one thing I should do is create an anchor on the row where the comment is being printed out. How can I do this?   I have the following problem I have a web framework built with classic asp that saves the page state in hidden textboxes, and then issues a submit to itself. Before submitting, we have a javascript functions that saves the action in a hidden "action" input, and then performs the submit. The page loads the state from those hidden texts, reads the action issued, reads extra parameters, like the id of the record to edit, and then builds the page accordingly. I'd like to make a url link to automatically start the page with "edit" action on a "x" id. So I was thinking about building the following url, for example http://myapp/user?action=edit&id=23 the problem is that when the page auto-submits, que url string keeps the parameters. I'd like to achieve the following: when the user clicks on http://myapp/user?action=edit&id=23 my page should receive the posted values action=edit and id=23 but the url should be just http://myapp/user and both parameters should be kept in the hidden texts... (I wonder if I make myself clear...) thanks a lot saludos sas ps: I have a couple of ideas about how to solve it, but I'll post them as answers...

  Macros are fine. Templates are fine. Pretty much whatever it works is fine. The example is OpenGL; but the technique is C++ specific and relies on no knowledge of OpenGL. Precise problem: I want an expression E; where I do not have to specify a unique name; such that a constructor is called where E is defined, and a destructor is called where the block E is in ends. For example, consider: class GlTranslate { GLTranslate(float x, float y, float z); { glPushMatrix(); glTranslatef(x, y, z); } ~GlTranslate() { glPopMatrix(); } }; Manual solution: { GlTranslate foo(1.0, 0.0, 0.0); // I had ti give it a name ..... } // auto popmatrix Now, I have this not only for glTranslate, but lots of other PushAttrib/PopAttrib calls too. I would prefer not to have to come up with a unique name for each var. Is there some trick involving macros templates ... or something else that will automatically create a variable who's constructor is called at point of definition; and destructor called at end of block? • Resharper 5: How do I set the default formatting style for inline code blocks?

  I've got a problem with the formatting of inline code blocks within the VS2010 text editor and wonder if anyone else has had similar problems and found the 'magic' setting I'm looking for. I'm working my way through tutorials in an MVC book. Whenever I add some inline code blocks to a view I want them formatted like so: <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> What I'm actually getting is this (auto-formatted by the IDE when I finish writing the code): <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> It's pretty irritating. Any ideas on how I can instruct the IDE to leave my <% % tags alone? I've been fiddling with options under "Tools - Options - Text Editor" for ages but alas am getting nowhere... Edit: I've just noticed that this is down to Resharper 5 (when I disable it the problem disappears), however I still don't know how to stop it. Any ideas?

  Every day I realize how much I love Visual Studio for .NET development.... but, I believe that Resharper, may hold a value that surpasses Visual Studio's (I am using VS 2005 for WPF/WCF development). I decided it would be great to compile a list of the most valuable tools for software development. These can be applications/plug-ins anything that you think holds GREAT value. Also, please explain the benefits of the tool that you are posting. Resharper: Intergrated Unit testing "Camel Hump" code auto completion Find "usings" (inverse of "Go to Deceleration") Code formating and member rearranging Assembly and namespace inclusion (based on your code) Check for common optimizations and possible bugs in code and suggests/rewrites the code for you (things like null checking, redundant delegate creation, inverting if statements, etc...); Tells you when code and be more generic (may suggest things like "use this interface instead" if your code never refers to something specific on an object) Helps you see code that is not being used and will clean any unused members. File structure view helps you jump around the regions of your file (this is really awesome and clean). Class searching (you can use things like camel humps) Asks you which partial file to open once you find a class. • How to connect to a third party website in classic asp using javascript for password encryption and yet not giving in the password.

  Hi I have to make changes to classic asp website where once a button is clicked it autologins to a third party website with a intermediate page that warns that you are logging in to a third party website. The thirdparty is providing us with a username and password and gave us an examle javascript to encode the password to send to them. Now where do I store the userid and password. I cannot execute the javascript on the serverside. It has to go to the client. If the asp page which has the encryption javascript goes to the client side then the source can be viewed and the username and password is given out. Is there a way that I can have hidden asp page whose only job is to encrypt the password and create a new url and auto redirect it to that new url. So when the user clicks ok on the intermediate warning page I redirect it to this hidden asp page which does the encryption and a creates a url for get method and redirects to that page. I am a novice as far as java script and classic asp is concerned. Any ideas/ advice will be appreciated. Thanks, --Abbi

• How do you use indent in vim for web development?

  I'm starting to use Linux and Vim at work. I'm starting to read vims documentation and creating my own .vimrc file and such. I'm a web developer working with HTML, XML, CSS, JS, Python, PHP, ZPT, DTML and SQL. I would like to have an indent feature like this one: for each language/set, a corresponding indent solution. So, in js, writing function test(){|} would turn in function test(){ | } If php, writing <?php function test(){|}: <?php function test(){ | } <?php> ...and such. Writing a function definition in Python, and then creating a for loop sentece, it would automatically create an indent. I'm starting with autoindent, smartindent, cindent but I'm a little confused about their differences. How do the indent in vim works? Am I supposed to download plugins for each language? Is the behavior I described possible with already existing plugins you're used to or do I have to create it? I keep seeing people using Vim and I'm trying to do this as well since the machine I'm using is too limited, but I'm afraid I won't be able to have a decent auto indenting solution in it. (I have used autoindenting in a little small project in Visual Studio, and really liked their approach. Is there a plugin for that?)

• Importing Excel spreadsheet data into existing Access DB

  I've designed an Access 2003 DB with 3 tables: APPLICATIONS, SERVERS, and INSTALLATIONS. Records in the APPLICATIONS and SERVERS tables are uniquely identified by a synthetic primary key (in Access, an "auto number"). The INSTALLATIONS table is essentially a mapping table between APPLICATIONS and SERVERS: it's a list of records of which applications are installed on which servers. A record in the INSTALLATIONS table is also identified by a synthetic primary key, and it consists of an APPLICATION_ID and SERVER_ID for the records in their respective tables. I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet I would like to import into this database, but it's proving difficult. The spreadsheet is made up of several tabs/worksheets, each one representing a server with its own listing of installed applications. I'm not sure how to proceed with an import - the "Get External Data -- Import" feature in Access has an import "In an Existing Table" option, but it's greyed out. I'm also unsure how I build the relationships between applications and servers for importing records into the INSTALLATIONS table. I had previously fooled around with adding some security to the Access DB file. I think I removed everything but perhaps I didn't and that's causing the problem? • Reduce white space between lines of text

  I am creating a webpage (first time) and i'm following as much of the CSS rules and tags as I can. However, I ran into a problem with white space. I've underlined the first line of text but now the second line seems to have drifted below.   I'm working on dropdowns in IE6 (SELECT with OPTIONs as children). I'm experiencing the problem where, in IE6, dropdown menus are truncated to the width of the SELECT element. In other browsers, blur causes every OPTION to not be highlighted. Using JS, how can I de-highlight an option after the dropdown has lost focus.

• How to determine the width of content or size a container to content

  My goal is to display the entire contents of a FlowDocument (that is, without paginating) in a column layout. It would have a fixed height, but the width would depend on the contents of the FlowDocument. My problem is: FlowDocumentReader does not automatically resize to the contents of the FlowDocument. As you see in my XAML below, FlowDocumentReader.Width is 5000 units (just a large number that can accommodate most documents) -- when I make it Auto, it just clips to the width of the ScrollViewer and paginates my stuff! Is there a proper way of solving this problem?   Using VS2010 under windows 32 or 64 bit. Our C# app calls a 3rd party DLL (managed) that interfaces to an unmanaged DLL. The 3rd party DLL API appears identical in 32 or 64 bit although underneath it links to a 32 or 64 bit unmanaged DLL. We want our C# app to run on either 32 or 64 bit OS, ideally it will auto detect the OS and load the appropriate 32rd party DLL - via a simple factory class which tests the Enviroment. So the neatest solution would be a runtime folder containing: OurApp.exe 3rdParty32.DLL 3rdPartyUnmanaged32.DLL 3rdParty64.DLL 3rdPartyUnmanaged64.DLL However, the interface for the managed 3rdParty 32 and 64 dll is identical so both cannot be referenced within the same VS2010 project: when adding the second the warning triangle is shown and it does not get referenced. Is my only answer to create two extra library DLL projects to reference the 3rdParty 32 and 64 Dlls? So I would end up with this project arrangement: Project 1: Builds OurApp.exe, dynamically creates an object for project2 or project3. Project 2: Builds OurApp32.DLL which references 3rdParty32.dll Project 3: Builds OurApp64.DLL which references 3rdParty64.dll

• Send Click Message to another application process

  I have a scenario, i need to send click events to an independent application. I started that application with the following code. private Process app; app = new Process(); app.StartInfo.FileName = app_path; app.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = dir_path; app.Start(); Now i want to send Mouse click message to that applicaiton, I have specific coordinates in relative to application window. How can i do it using Windows Messaging or any other technique. So not fit for my need. Then i use.   i have 1 dedicated server with Nginx proxy for Apache. Memcache, mysql, 4G Ram. These day, my visitor on my site wasn't increased, but my server get overload always in some specified time. (9AM - 15PM) Ram in use is increased second by second to full. that's moment, my server will get overload. i have to kill all apache , mysql service and reboot it to get free memory. and it'll full again. that's the terrible circle. here is my ram in use at the moment 160(nginx) 220(apache) 512(memcache) 924(mysql) here's process number 4(nginx) 14(apache) 5(memcache) 20(mysql) and here's my my.cnf config. someone can help me to optimize it? • Display: table-cell problems in chrome

• Most awkward/misleading method in Java Base API ?

  I was recently trying to convert a string literal into a boolean, when the method "boolean Boolean.getBoolean(String name)" popped out of the auto-complete window. There was also another method ("boolean Boolean.parseBoolean(String s)") appearing right after, which lead me to search to find out what were the differences between these two, as they both seemed to do the same. It turns out that what Boolean.getBoolean(String name) really does is to check if there exists a System property (!) of the given name and if its value is true. I think this is very misleading, as I'm definitely not expecting that a method of Boolean is actually making a call to System.getProperty, and just by looking at the method signature, it sure looks (at least to me) like it should be used to parse a String as a boolean. Sure, the javadoc states it clearly, but I still think the method has a misleading name and is not in the right place. Other primitive type wrappers, such as Integer also have a similar method. Also, it doesn't seem to be a very useful method to belong in the base API, as I think it's not very common to have something like -Darg=true. Maybe it's a good question for a Java position interview: "What is the output of Boolean.getBoolean("true")?". I believe a more appropriate place for those methods would be in the System class, e.g., getPropertyAsBoolean; but again, I still think it's unnecessary to have these methods in the base API. It'd make sense to have these in something like the Properties class, where it's very common to do this kind of type conversions. What do you think of all this ? Also, if there's another "awkward" method that you're aware of, please post it. N.B. I know I can use Boolean.valueOf or Boolean.parseBoolean to convert a string literal into a boolean, but I'm just looking to discuss the API design.
